Betty Lou Parks
Betty Lou (Nuse) Parks, 70, of 5574 Eaton-Gettysburg Road, Eaton, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 31, 1927, in Brookville, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Shumaker) Nuse, and had lived in Preble County all her life. She was a retired seamstress from Clifton Uniform Shirt Co., and a member of the Lutheran Church and Eaton Grange #2250.
Her husband, Ray M. Parks, died Oct. 15, 1974.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey M. Parks of Greenville and Robert Allen Parks of Eaton; two daughters, Cornelia Esther Koeller of Eaton and Wray Jean Williams of Gratis; four grandchildren, Jeremiah Parks, Morgan Williams, Hannah Koeller and Mikayla Williams; a brother, John Nuse of West Alexandria; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roscoe Nuse and Dale Nuse; and a sister, Martha Marker.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Jerry A. Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home.

Ruth A. Robey
Ruth A. Robey, 77, of Dayton, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born June 28, 1920, in Eaton, she was the daughter of John Ambrose and Susan T. (Gibbins) Conrad. She had worked for L.M. Prince Company and American Aggregates in Dayton and attended Emmanuel Catholic Church in Dayton.
Survivors include a son, Gary Baker of New Jersey; a brother, James F. Conrad of Dayton; three sisters, Mary K. Conrad of Dayton, Sarah F. and Esther L. Conrad, both of Hollywood, Fla.; two grandsons, Kevin and Vincent Baker; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Carson and Margaret Conrad; and two brothers, Carl and William E. Conrad.
Memorial Mass will be at noon Friday, Oct. 3, at Visitation Catholic Church, 407 E. Main St., Eaton, with Father Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lou Ellen Hall
Lou Ellen Hall, 83, formerly of Woodale Drive, Eaton, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 25, 1913, in Wayneburg, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Forch "Bud" and Ida (Morgan) Eubanks, and had lived in Eaton since 1987. She became a Christian at an early age and was active in her church until her health deteriorated.
Her husband, Percy Hall, died April 3, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a son, David C. Hall; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald C. and BO Hall of Eaton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Selma Smyth of North Hampton, Mass.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home.

Rev. Edward H. Volker
The Rev. Edward H. Volker, 82, formerly of 131 S. Franklin St., Eaton, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Franciscan at St. Clare in Cincinnati.
Born July 10, 1915, in Cincinnati, he was the son of Edward T. and Mary (Boelscher) Volker. He was ordained June 7, 1941; served two years as an assistant at Assumption Church, six months as assistant chaplain at St. Mary Hospital, 18 months as assistant chaplain at Good Samaritan Hospital, teacher at Elder High School, two years as assistant at Assumption Church, pastor of Mother of God Church, and coached football, all in Cincinnati.
In June 1947, he became chaplain at Ursuline Mother House & Girls' Boarding School in St. Martin, Ohio; and in 1950, pastor at Holy Ghost Church, Vera Cruz, Ohio. His first use of Black Light was during Christmas 1950. On Oct. 4, 1954, he was a Marian Rally Exec; from 1955-59, assistant pastor of St. Agnes Church in Cincinnati; and founded Agnetian Juniors, the city champs in eighth grade girls' kickball.
Father Volker was pastor at St. Mary's Church in Arnheim, Ohio, from 1959-62; 1960, second Marian Rally at Ursuline Convent in St. Martin, Ohio.
On Jan. 16, 1962, he became pastor at Visitation and St. John's Catholic Church in Eaton and New Paris; and presented his Black Light Christmas decorations of over 35,000 miniature lights and angels for many years. He retired on July 2, 1985.
Survivors include sisters and brother-in-law, Marian Roebel, Betty and Bill Blank, all of Cincinnati; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Betty Volker of Cincinnati; many nieces and nephews; and friends, Joan and John Keller.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Singleton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Visitation Catholic Church, 407 E. Main St., Eaton, with Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the church. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy J. Eagle
Dorothy J. Eagle, 63, of New Lebanon, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997.
Born Sept. 6, 1934, in Centerville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Erving Sr. and Emma (Eldridge) Mize. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Nelson R. Eagle; two sons, Rick L. Eagle and Eddie N. Eagle, both of New Lebanon; a grandson, Michael Biondie Jr.; and a sister, Arnnie Burnett of South Vienna, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Biondie.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Barr officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Earl Lane
Earl Lane, 72, of West Elkton, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 5, 1924, in Preble County, he was the son of Walter and Jessie (Akers) Lane. He was employed as a bricklayer at Armco Steel for 37 years, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Fugett) Lane, whom he married Oct. 23, 1948; three sons, Joseph E. Lane of West Elkton, David E. (Sheri) Lane of Carlisle and Daniel R. (Priscilla) Lane of San Diego, Calif.; five daughters, Sharon E. Blevins of New Paris, Rose Marie Wells of Champaign, Ill., Jackie (Carlos) Morgan of Monroe, Jenne Lane of Sarasota, Fla., and Paula (Mike) Conner of West Elkton.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six sisters, Dorothy Hoskins of Somerville, Marie Cornett of Loogootee, Ind., Regent Chamberlin of Somerville, Laura Taylor, Norma Creekbaum and Brenda Philabaum, all of Middletown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Wilma Messer and Pauline Shoemaker.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 4, at R.C. Nein and Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, followed by burial in Fairmound Cemetery, West Elkton.

Lillie M. Paxton
Lillie Mae Paxton, 81, of Morning Sun, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born Aug. 19, 1916, in Milton, Ind., she was the daughter of Ellsworth and Perl (Robbins) Skiver. She was a graduate of Greensfork High School in Greensfork, Ind. Mrs. Paxton and her husband owned and operated the Morning Sun grocery store for 20 years before retiring in 1974. She was a member of Morning Sun United Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Lyle Paxton, whom she married March 10, 1937, died in March 1993.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Donald LaVorgna of St. Leonard, Md.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Malcolm and Jean Paxton of Seven Mile, Marvin and Evelyn Mae Paxton of Bellefontaine, David and Marjorie May Paxton of Dayton; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanette Roberts of Morning Sun.
She was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, April Becker and Amber Paxton; and a brother, Leo Paxton.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 4, at Smith and Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford, followed by burial in Beechwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.
June E. Hamby
June Eileen Hamby, 66, of New Lebanon, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born March 1, 1931, in Parkersburg, W. Va., she was the daughter of Hunter Don and Lola Marie (Sager) Heckert.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, John R. Hamby; two daughters and son-in-law, Linda Joann and Ken Elkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Joni T. Hamby of Tampa, Fla.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Mark A. and Bonnie Hamby of Durham, N.C., John M. "Matt" Hamby of Bahama, N.C.; sisters and brother-in-law, Vonda Heckert of Vienna, W. Va., Jean (twin sister) and Don Cline of Belpre, Ohio.
Funeral services were Sunday, Oct. 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Bart Ellis officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Lowell Ingram
Lowell Ingram, 72, of Farmersville, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at Manorcare Healthcare in Miamisburg.
Born May 24, 1925, in Boxley, Ark., he was the son of the late Stanley and Alice (Morgan) Ingram. He had worked in the mailing department at the former McCall Corp. in Dayton.
Mr. Ingram was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theater of Operations, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Lebanon.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Alta (Gulley) Ingram; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lowell M. and Linda Ingram of Eaton, Randall and Christine Ingram of West Alexandria; grandchildren, David, Angela, Matthew, Heather, Ashley, Shayla, Virginia and Laura; great-grandson, Phoenix; a brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Mary Ingram of Andersonville, Ind.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Hiram Cole of Boxley, Ark.
Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 3, at Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, with Pastor James Whorton officiating. Graveside services and burial were at West Point Cemetery, Liberty, Ind.

Rodger G. Petering
Rodger Gerald Petering, 73, of Lewisburg, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Nov. 17, 1923, in Brookville, he was the son of Charles F. and Margaret Louise (Hess) Petering. He was a Harrison Township farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Lee (Middlebrooks) Petering, in 1987; and two brothers, Merle "Pete" Petering, in 1989, and Robert Petering, in 1997.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol L. and Jack Pounds of Tipp City, Cheryl L. and Harold Linville of Englewood; grandchildren, Jeff Johnson, Sherri Fusi, Kevin and Nicky Moore; great-grandchildren, Justin and Ryan Johnson and Ashley Moore.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 6, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Bryan Palmer-Smith officiating. Burial was in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.
