Steven M. Hall
Steven M. Hall, 31, of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997.
He was born Dec. 16, 1965, in Dayton, was employed at the Delphi-Harrison Radiator Division of GM, and was a member of Masonic Lodge #742 of Vandalia, the Scottish Rite of Dayton, the Miami Valley Drag Racers Association and the NHRA.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl L. (Oiler), whom he married Aug. 13, 1994; his parents, Lonnie and Marianne (Stanton) Hall of Butler Township; a brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Karen Hall of West Alexandria; grandmother, Martha Hall of Butler Township; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Audra Oiler of Piqua; sisters-in-law, Carol Bergeron and husband Doug of Greenville, Carla Bayman and husband Tony of Piqua; brother-in-law, Mark Oiler and wife Annie of Greenville; 11 nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35 East, West Alexandria, with Pastor Mike Havey officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens.

Paul E. Phillips
Paul Edward Phillips, 54, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, in Deming, N.M., after an extended illness. He was a former resident of Preble County.
Born July 15, 1943, he was the son of John and Ruth Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Marty Phillips; two sons, David Lee Phillips and Gregory Scott Phillips, both of Eaton; one daughter, Mary Alice (Phillips) Puckett of Eaton; three stepsons, Donnie, Kelly and Aaron Benningfield, all of Deming, N.M.; one stepdaughter, Cindy Hassman of Deming, N.M.; four brothers, Jerry, John, Ray and Larry Phillips, all of Brookville; one sister, Sue Maddaford of Brookville; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Paul Edward Phillips Jr., in 1991, and Brian Keith Phillips, in 1996.
Memorial services were Monday, Oct. 6, in Deming, N.M.
Anna B. Gibson
Anna B. Gibson, 80, of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at her home. She was a former resident of Dayton.
Born July 21, 1917, in Bass County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Loellen (Neil) Barnes. She retired from Delco Chassis Division of GM, and was a life member of VFW Auxiliary #9927 of Kettering.
Survivors include grandsons, Mike Gibson and wife Melinda, and Greg Gibson, all of West Alexandria; five grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Norris of Cincinnati; and a brother, Clay Barnes of Kentucky.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35 East, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
Edith F. Bowers
Edith F. Bowers, 88, formerly of Jackson Township, Eaton, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at Governor Harris Homestead, where she had been a resident since September 1993.
Born Jan. 10, 1909, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Doctor Franklin and Elizabeth M. (Stover) Ashworth. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of New Paris and the Gettysburg Community Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Marshall Bowers, in 1986; and two sisters, Alice Mearle Black, in 1968, and Maude Ellen Guckian, in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Carol McDivitt of Fountain City, Ind., and Joyce Elaine Gerhardt of Eaton; a brother, Paul Wilson Ashworth of New Paris; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with Dr. William P. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home.

Viola M. Pitsinger
Viola M. Pitsinger, 88, formerly of North Franklin Street, Eaton, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She had been in failing health for several months.
Born Oct. 3, 1909, in Ross County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Elmer E. and Ruie (Harris) Sheets, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a member of the Church of Christ in London, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley P. Pitsinger, in 1980; three brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhuie I. Curtis of Camden and Rosemary Cornett of Eaton; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Vernon Hornsby officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
William W. Hiestand
William Welsh Hiestand, 71, of Eaton, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at his home after an 11-month illness.
Born May 8, 1926, in Eaton, he was the son of the late William H. and Viola (Welsh) Hiestand. He had been in banking since 1948. In 1950, he joined Preble County National Bank, now known as Star Bank, Preble County. He had served as president, chairman of the board and chief executive officer until his retirement in 1991. Upon his retirement, he retained his position on the bank's board of directors and continued to serve on various board committees until 1996.
Mr. Hiestand was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of First Presbyterian Church, past president of Eaton Rotary Club and the Eaton Chamber of Commerce, and was a member and past president of the Eaton Country Club.
A 1948 graduate of Miami University with a degree in business, he served on the university's Business Advisory Council. He was past chairman of the annexation committee of the City of Eaton, and past chairman of the Eaton United Way campaign.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie (St. Clair) Hiestand, whom he married March 19, 1949, at St. Albans Church in Cleveland Heights; a son, Jeff Hiestand of Cincinnati; two daughters, Janet (Dave) Sikora and Leslie (Bob) Renner, both of Eaton; grandchildren, Erin Hiestand, Holly Hiestand, Lindsay Sikora, Brooke Sikora, Brad Sikora, Katie Sikora, Ryan Clark and Whitney Renner; one sister, Barbara Evans of Eaton; one brother, Allen Hiestand of Eaton; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at First Presbyterian Church, Eaton, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, is in charge of arrangements.

Ova J. Lawson
Ova J. Lawson, 54, of 130 N. Maple St., Eldorado, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 8, 1997, at his home.
Born Aug. 4, 1943, in Blanchester (Clinton County), Ohio, the son of the late Ova M. and Jennie Alice (Peck) Lawson. He had been an auctioneer for over 20 years, and was well-known in the Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky auction house circuit. He was owner of the State Line Auction in Eldorado, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Shirley (Parrett) Lawson; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Denise Lawson of Brookville; two brothers, Garvin Lawson of New Paris and Orville Lawson of Lewisburg; a sister, Alta Schaffer of Eaton; five grandchildren; three stepchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 13, at Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home-Eldorado Chapel, with the Rev. Gilmer Smith officiating. Burial was in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.
William H. Miller
William H. Miller, 83, of New Lebanon, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born March 3, 1914, he was the son of Owen and Blanche (Snider) Miller. He retired from Rike Kumler Co. after 32 years of service. Mr. Miller was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a member of American Legion Post #322 of West Alexandria; a member of King Hiram Lodge #88 of West Alexandria; and Antioch Shrine, Scottish Rite of Dayton.
Survivors include his wife, Ann K. Miller; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sherry Miller of Lake Oswego, Ore.; his mother, Blanche Miller of West Alexandria; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Owen "Buz" Jr. and Marietta Miller of West Alexandria, Jack and Betty Miller of Lady Lake, Fla.; three sisters, Velma Brown of West Alexandria, Vera Habekost of Bradenton, Fla., and Earla Mae Giehl of Beavercreek; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty Miller of Vandalia.
He was preceded in death by his father; four brothers, Darrel, Bob, Joy and Dennie Miller; and a sister, Dottie.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 13, at St. Peters Lutheran Church, New Lebanon, with the Rev. Robert V. Neeb officiating. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

Martha F. Pease
Martha F. Pease, 102, formerly of Brookville, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 11, 1997, at Harborside Nursing Center in New Lebanon, where she had been a resident for the past seven years.
Born Sept. 18, 1895, in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of George and Emma F. (Martin) Brooks. She had lived in the Brookville area since 1954, and was a member of the Brookville Church of the Brethren.
Her husband, Russel D. Pease, died in November 1967.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Alberta and Bill Neptune of Farmersville; sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin and Irene Pease of Middletown, Ind., Virgil and Ruth Pease of Pinellas Park, Fla., Herman Pease of Eaton, Donald and Joan Pease of Farmersville; 26 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon Pease, in 1979, and Louise Pease, in 1984; a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn Evans, in 1996, and Glenn Evans, in 1994; brothers, the Rev. Harlan Brooks, Esta Brooks, Granville Brooks and Ira Brooks; and a sister, Velma Karns.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. George W. Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.

C. Leon Thompson
C. Leon Thompson, 80, formerly of New Paris, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at Westview Acres Care Center in Eaton.
Born April 23, 1917, in Eldorado, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Clara M. (Eyer) Thompson. He retired in 1983 from the maintenance department at Earlham College after 18 years of service, and had also worked as a farmer in Preble County and Jackson Township for 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. (Ruby) Thompson, whom he married Sept. 9, 1939; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and John Virag of West Alexandria; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald E. and Kay Thompson of Battleground, Ind.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Orla and Ralph Thompson; and three sisters, Hazel Emmel, Martha Moore and Mildred Sherman.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35 East, West Alexandria, followed by burial in Preble Memory Gardens.

Edith J. Stienecker
Edith Jean (Wright) Stienecker, 65, of Beavercreek died Wednesday evening, Oct. 1, 1997, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born Oct. 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harry Lorimar and Ruth (McCreary) Wright. A graduate of Miami University, she taught first grade at Parkwood Elementary School for 26 years, and volunteered at Kettering Medical Center, Safety Kids, Loos School and the Contact Crisis Phone Line.
She was a member of Sugar Creek United Presbyterian Church, a member of the Beavercreek Lioness Club and the Presbyterian Women's Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Edgar William Stienecker; and a brother, Harold Wright.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Stienecker of Cleveland and Nancy Schumacher of Oakwood; one son, Carl Stienecker; grandchildren, Erin, Sarah and Trevor Schumacher and Emily Stienecker; sisters, Betty Young, Dorothy Foskuhl, Mary Monson, Margaret Butler and Helen Gambrell; brothers, Ralph Wright and Stanley Wright; sister-in-law, Louise Phillips; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 6, at Morning Sun United Presbyterian Church, Morning Sun, with the Rev. Julia K. Whaff officiating. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery. Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
