Emma A. Gilbert
Emma Armenda Gilbert, 83, of West Alexandria, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Oct. 12, 1914, in Cookeville, Tenn., she was the daughter of Henry and Emma (Madewell) Lee. She retired from Inland General Motors in 1975 after 28 years of service. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the First Brethren Church of West Alexandria.
Survivors include one son, Orson Madewell Jr. of West Alexandria; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Retta Mae Gray of Fairborn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Gilbert, in 1976; and five brothers, James Lee, Johnson Lee, Harvey Lee, Willie Lee and Payton Lee.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 18, at the First Brethren Church, with the Rev. David Oligee officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis J. Johnson
Phyllis J. Johnson, 55, of New Lebanon, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at her home.
She was born Oct. 30, 1941, in Preble County. She had worked as a nurses' aide at Harborside Care Center in New Lebanon for the past eight years.
She was preceded in death on March 24, 1992, by her husband, Richard M. Johnson Sr., whom she married on April 2, 1960; and her father, Russell Lesh, in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Richard M. Johnson Jr. of New Lebanon; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna C. Johnson of Eaton, Christine A. and Ben Esteppe, Rebecca J. and Steve Kobus, and Alicia L. Johnson, all of Dayton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her mother, Margaret M. (Garber) Lesh of West Alexandria; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Sharon Lesh, Robert and Shelley Lesh, all of West Alexandria; sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob Collins of West Alexandria and Patricia Russell of New Lebanon.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 20, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor James Whorton officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.

Becky L. Gibson
Becky Lynn Gibson, 35, of Eaton, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997.
She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
Survivors include her father, James William Gibson; her mother, Anna L. Gibson of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, James Glenn Gibson and Timothy R. Gibson; one sister, Laura Ann Vawter; and grandfather, Rosevelt Gibson.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 20, at Little & Sons Funeral Home, Beech Grove, Ind., followed by burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind. Local arrangements were by Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel.
Earl H. Huffman
Earl H. Huffman, 82, formerly of Middletown, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, at his home in Deland, Fla.
Born Jan. 11, 1915, in Germantown, he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Winterhalter) Huffman. He retired from Black Clawson in 1977 after 30 years of service, and was the owner/operator of Skate-More Rec Center in Eaton for many years. He was a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Geraldine (Rose) Huffman; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Don Byrd of Deltona, Fla.; stepchildren whom he raised, Jim (Dorothy) Wise of Largo, Fla., Barbara Morgerson and Ginger (David) Dougherty of Gratis Township; Ronnie (Bonnie) Wells of Gratis; adopted children, Pam (Rod) Brush of New Lebanon and Cheri (Gary) Stepp of Gratis; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Katie Taylor, Edna Huffman, Grace Porter and Laura Lakes; and a granddaughter, Jacqueline Wells.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 20, at the Christian Assembly of God, Middletown, with Pastors Donald Dohm and Bruce Powell officiating. Burial was in Fairmound Cemetery, West Elkton. Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.
Thelma T. Williams
Thelma Tracy Williams, 96, of Davie, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997. A former resident of Eaton and Loveland, Ohio, before moving to Ocala, Fla., in 1981, she had resided in Davie for a year and a half.
She was a life member of the Masonic Order of Eastern Star, Loveland Chapter #289.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Williams.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary R. Schick of Davie, Fla., and Mildred E. Ramsey of Crystal River, Fla.; three grandchildren, Larry Langenbrunner of Cincinnati, Billie Kay Grate of Davie, Fla., and Robert Perry of Loveland; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Tracy of Cincinnati; and a sister, Mary Miller of Loveland.
A memorial service was held Monday, Oct. 20, at Fred Hunter's Cremation Memorial Center, Lauderhill, Fla.

Thelma V. Camper
Thelma V. Camper, 87, of Sauer Drive, New Paris, died Saturday morning, Oct. 18, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after a short illness.
Born Oct. 30, 1909, in Preble County, she was the daughter of David C. and Lydia C. (Thompson) Snavely. She had lived in Eaton prior to moving to New Paris in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Camper, in 1981; a daughter, Juanita G. Guthrie, in 1969; and a sister, Florence C. Hamilton, in 1981.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Snavely of Eaton; a granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandson.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Margaret L. Brier
Margaret L. Brier, 89, of 4012 Bath Road, Brookville, Ind., died Friday evening, Oct. 17, 1997, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, Oxford.
Born, Oct. 13, 1908, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Charles and Emma (Ault) Hays. She was a graduate of College Corner High School and had lived most of her life in the Bath community. She was a member of the Bath United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Her husband, Davis Brier, whom she married Sept. 14, 1929, died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Guy.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Mary Brier of Liberty, Ind., John and Nancy Brier of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Jack Hewitt of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Helen and Joseph Keohane of Grand Island, N.Y.; a brother, Lewis Hays of Palmetto, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Bath United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Malcolm B. Green officiating. Burial was in College Corner Cemetery, West College Corner, Ind. Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio, was in charge of arrangements.

Jess W. Conley
Jess W. Conley, 83, of New Paris, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Aug. 19, 1914, in Lucasville, Ohio, he was the son of Claude and Mima (Burke) Conley. He worked 20 years in the coal mines in Kentucky before moving to this area, and retired from the Richmond State Hospital maintenance department in 1972.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Violet (Young) Conley; a son, Larry J. Conley of New Paris; daughters, Doris Conley and Janelle Steele, both of New Paris; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Nelson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Don Boyer officiating. Burial will be in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris. The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Harold E. Coovert
Harold Ellis Coovert, 84, of Largo, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997, at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla., of leukemia.
Born in Eldorado, he moved to Florida from Dayton in 1971. As a young man, he was a chief designer for the Peerless Model Airplane Co. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
Mr. Coovert retired as a supervisory engineering draftsman for the U.S. government at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton. He served as a draftsman for the design of armament parts of B-17's during the war and also as draftsman for the Manhattan Project. After moving to Florida, he worked at Honeywell for four years.
He was a nature photographer and for many years produced and presented slide shows on wildflowers.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Timmons-Coovert; three sons, Allen Bruce Coovert of Laurelville, Ohio, Dr. Dale Lee Coovert of Clearwater, Fla., and Gary Arthur Coovert of Dayton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 12, in Largo, with arrangements by the National Cremation Society.

Norma I. Klinger
Norma Irene Klinger, 72, of West Manchester, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton after a five-month illness.
Born April 7, 1925, in Eldorado, she was the daughter of the late William Jacob and Eva L. (Ebersole) Shiverdecker, and had lived in Preble County all her life. She was a former member of the Preble County Horseman's Association.
Survivors include her husband, Richard E. Klinger, whom she married May 11, 1946; three daughters, Marie Wilson of Eaton, Sue Hall and Kathy Leyes, both of West Manchester; three sons, William Klinger of Eaton, Robert Klinger and Ron Klinger, both of West Manchester...[cut off]
Richard S. Douglass
Richard S. Douglass, 88, formerly of North Main Street, Lewisburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born July 13, 1909, in Lewisburg, he was the son of Albert Theodore and Flora A. (Black) Douglass. He a 1928 graduate of Lewisburg Union High School, was co-owner/operator of Stock and Douglass Burial Vaults in Lewisburg, retiring in 1949; a charter member of the Trail Riders of Lewisburg; and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma G. (Albert) Douglass, in 1966; daughter, Nancy L. Tucker, in 1996; grandson, Christian Douglass Tucker, in 1991; sister, Edna Harry, in 1933; brothers, Owen S. Douglass, in 1938, and Herbert Douglass, in 1965.
Survivors include his son-in-law, Joey R. Tucker of Lewisburg; granddaughter, Ann Tucker Langenbrunner of Dallas, Texas; nephews, Park Harry and Doyle Douglass, both of Lewisburg; nieces, Pam Baker of Lewisburg, Nora James and Alberta Wearley, both of Dayton, and June Sauer of Connecticut.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 25, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. James Lehman officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
