Arthur B. Shaw
Arthur Brower Shaw, 87, formerly of Aukerman Street, Eaton, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1909, in Fairhaven (Preble County), he was the son of Walter Lee and Vera Ethel (Brower) Shaw. He was a 1928 graduate of Camden High School. Mr. Shaw retired Dec. 31, 1978, as the "meter man" for the Eaton Police Department, worked for the state of Ohio as a supervisor at the I-70 truck weigh station and was also employed at Barnes Funeral Homes, Inc.
He had farmed in Gasper and Dixon townships for many years and was owner/operator of Shaw Seed Service for over 40 years, was a Gasper Township Trustee from 1944 to 1951, a member of Dixon Township Grange, Preble County Farm Bureau Discussion Group and a member of Concord United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Reba May (Charles) Shaw; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon J. and Robert C. Barnes of Eaton; grandchildren and spouses, Brian R. and Erin M. Barnes of Lewisburg, Stephen A. and Lori R. Barnes of Brookville; great-grandchildren, Matthew B. and Christina D. Barnes, both of Lewisburg, and Logan P. Barnes of Brookville; and cousins.
Funeral services were Sunday, Oct. 26, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Van Tine officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Vivian S. Brokamp
Vivian S. Brokamp, 68, of South Franklin Street, Eaton, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997 at Hospice of Dayton.
Born Nov. 18, 1928, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Jason and Ruth (Poffenbarger) Silver. She was a 1946 Eaton High School graduate, and retired in 1991 from Stearns Textile in Eaton.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Robert C. Brokamp; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Robert Williams of Lake Placid, Fla., Barbara Buckley of Bradenton, Fla., Peggy and Ron Klinger of West Manchester, Gail and Jeff Pieratt of Eaton, and Janice Locke of Wisconsin; brothers, Charles Silver of Fairborn and Ronald Silver of Eaton; three sisters, Wilma Roof of Miamisburg, Ruthanna Hayslett of Eaton and Lois Jean Whalen of Springboro; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Cartwright, Phoebe Hamm and June Goodwin; and two brothers, Devon and Maurice Silver.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 25, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Loveta C. Cox
Loveta Clegg Cox, 92, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. She had been a resident at Maria Joseph in Dayton since November 1992.
Born Dec. 29, 1904, in Richmond, Ind., she was the daughter of Charles and Lola (Marling) McKee. She had attended Verona United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dewey Clegg, in 1954; her second husband, Walter Cox, in 1970; a daughter, Betty Clegg; and one grandson.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Leonard Dake of Arcanum, and Merciede and Dale Trent of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 24, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. William Schilling officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Roy E. Smith
Roy E. Smith, 84, of 127 Woodland Drive, Eaton, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton after failing health in the past year.
Born July 2, 1913, in Farmersville, he was the son of Marion F. and Daisy (May) Smith. He was a 1931 graduate of Farmersville High School. He owned Smith Chevrolet Sales in Farmersville from 1946 to 1960, Roy Smith Chevrolet in Eaton from 1960 to 1967, and retired in 1982 from the State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles accounting department after 15 years.
Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II from 1943 to 1945, had served on the Farmersville Village Council, was a 50-year member and past master of Masonic Lodge #482, F&AM in Farmersville, a 50-year member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, was a past president of the Eaton Rotary Club,
a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ, Eaton Planning Committee and American Legion Post 215 of Eaton.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Phyllis I. (Hoffman) Smith; a daughter, Sue Ann Smith of Eaton; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert R. and Barb Smith of Eaton; and a sister, Ethel Smith of Fairborn.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark and Russell Smith; and two sisters, Klonda Dixon and Mary Moler.
Graveside services were Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton, with the Rev. Jay Whitley officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn L. Pickett
Kathryn L. Pickett, 83, of Eaton, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born May 26, 1914, in Ambridge, Pa., she was the daughter of Stephen and Pauline (Lyszack) Homziak. She retired in 1971 from Alco in Pittsburgh, Pa., and retired in 1981 as owner/operator of the Gin Mill, West Alexandria. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary #8066 of Eaton.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Anthony V. Pickett; a son, Dr. Peter A. Sambol of Eaton; a brother, Walter Homziak of Ambridge, Pa.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Homziak; and a sister, Helen Maydack.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Saint Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church, 2382 Kennedy Ave., Dayton, with Father Ted Bobosh officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth R. Adkins
Kenneth Ray Adkins, 41, of Hawley Mills Road, New Paris, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25, 1997, at his home.
Born Sept. 30, 1956, in Montgomery County, he was the son of Bobby Ray and Reva (Rose) Adkins. He was a 1973 graduate of Trotwood Madison High School and was the trucking foreman for MPH Crane of Franklin.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Susan Elaine (Myers) Adkins; his mother, Reva Adkins of New Lebanon; three sons, Jesse L. Adkins, James K. Adkins and Jerry W. Adkins, all of New Paris; a daughter, Michelle R. Adkins of West Alexandria.
Also surviving are a brother, Michael L. Adkins of Eaton; four sisters, Donna K. Exman of Medway, Lois A. Gudger of West Alexandria, Patricia L. Peters of New Paris and Rita L. White of Eaton; daughter-in-law, Tracy R. Grody; son-in-law, William C. Washington; two grandchildren, Austin W. Adkins and Breanna E. Washington; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
M. Abbie Geeding
M. Abbie Geeding, 91, of North Cherry Street, Eaton, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Oct. 26, 1997, at Governor Harris Homestead, where she had been a resident for the past year.
Born Nov. 23, 1905, in Dixon Township (Preble County), she was the daughter of Levi T. and Martha Susan (Gillingham) Shoemaker. She was a 1923 graduate of Dixon High School, and a member of the Campbellstown United Church of Christ and the Alpha Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Geeding, in September 1973; and two sisters, Elsie Dunlap and Esther S. Shoemaker.
Survivors include one son, Floyd C. Geeding of Eaton; two grandchildren, Jeffrey C. Geeding and Joy S. Barrett; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Campbellstown United Church of Christ, West Florence-Campbellstown Road, Campbellstown, with the Rev. James Sizelove officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Harry J. Henderson
Harry J. Henderson, 51, of West Alexandria, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton.
He was born April 19, 1946, in Eaton, was a retired baler at General Motors, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a former member of the Church of Christ in Eaton.
Survivors include two sons, John of Fairborn and Justin of West Alexandria, his mother, Lorene (Horn) Henderson of New Lebanon; a brother, Anthony of New Lebanon; and three grandchildren, Erica, Nicole and John Jr.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Henderson; and a brother, Charles Henderson.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, with the Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.

James Profitt Jr.
James Profitt Jr., 44, of Camden, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born June 7, 1953, in Whitesburg, Ky., he was the son of Oscar and Bertha (Honeycutt) Profitt.
Survivors include his wife, Joan (Carter) Profitt; three daughters, Rosemary, April and Eva Turner, all at home; his mother, Bertha Profitt of Virginia; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Brenda Profitt of Eaton, Ernest and Mary Jane Profitt, Charles and Amanda Profitt, all of Wise, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia and Larry Carter, Audra and William Grant, Minnie McCall, Bertha and William Branham, all of Wise, Va.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 20, at Baker Funeral Home, Pound, Va., followed by burial in Hensley-Addington Cemetery, Wise, Va.
Virginia R. Riley
Virginia Ruth Riley, 83, of Eaton, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at Westview Acres Care Center in Eaton.
Born Oct. 23, 1914, in Beech Grove, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Doa Anna (Harter) and James Develbliss.
She married Orville Henry (O.H.) Riley on Dec. 18, 1980, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1990.
Survivors include seven nephews, Harold Riley of Clayton, Ralph Riley of Bradenton, Fla., Donovan Riley and Warren Riley, both of Eaton, Emerson Riley of Tennessee, Larry Riley of Farmersville and John Develbliss of Germantown; five nieces, Lena Bradshaw of New Paris, Nancy (Paul) Rodeffer of West Alexandria, Thelma Lawson of Port Jefferson, Ohio, Mary Peck of Germantown and Dorathy Pease of West Carrollton.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Faye Riley and Mae Nicholas; two brothers, Sam Guy and Irvin Ray Develbliss; and a niece, Glenna Jacobs.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, 249 N. Main St., Camden. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday just prior to services.
