Than M. Steiner
Than M. Steiner, 83, of 406 S. Franklin St., Eaton, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born July 14, 1914, in Montgomery County, he was the son of John M. and Edna (Collins) Steiner. He moved to Preble County in 1923. He was a retired truck driver, a veteran of World War II and attended the Eaton Church of God.
Survivors include three sisters, Delores Corbin of Mendon, Loretta Roe of Washington Court House and Francis Morris of Bradenton, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Martina Hillyard.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 5, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria. Burial, with full military services, was in Preble Memory Gardens.
Mitchell Merriman
Mitchell Merriman, 81, of 105 S. Main St., West Elkton, died Monday evening, Sept. 1, 1997, at Middletown Regional Hospital in Middletown.
Born Jan. 14, 1916, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was the son of Jeremy and Sarah (Hewlitt) Merriman. Mr. Merriman worked at Armco for 32 years, retiring in 1974. He had also worked at A&P and Reedy's groceries in Middletown, then worked at Camden IGA until 1988. He was a member of West Elkton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel (Bunch) Merriman, whom he married July 31, 1937; eight children, Gerald (Linda) Merriman of Oxford, Wayne Merriman of Richton Park, Ill., Ronnie (Patsy) Merriman and Phyliss (David) Huff, all of Camden, Larry (Jean) Merriman of Hartsville, S.C., Jerry (Sharon) Merriman and Karen (Wallace) Brewer, all of Somerville, and Sharon Taulbee of Eaton.
Also surviving are 32 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; one brother, James (Jean) Merriman of Middletown; and three sisters, Hallie (Jesse) Tuggle of Middletown, Elizbeth and Kathryn of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carol Faye; one brother, Robert; and two sisters, Erma and Minerva.
Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 4, at West Elkton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ruben Cabanillas officiating. Burial was in Fairmound Cemetery, West Elkton. R.C. Nein and Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred M. Mikesell
Mildred M. Mikesell, 83, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997, at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio.
Born June 19, 1914, in Eaton, she was the daughter of the late Clement W. and Alva (Fisher) Bostwick. She was a homemaker and part owner and operator of the Kitchen and Bath Showcase in Fremont, Ohio.
On April 5, 1933, she married Dale M. Mikesell in Eaton and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Peter Goddard of Oak Harbor, Ohio; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be conducted at a later date with burial in southern Ohio. Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.

Howard Crank
Howard Crank, 83, of 2281 Richmond-Palestine Road, New Madison, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at his home after an extended illness.
Born July 24, 1914, in Garrett County, Ky., he was the son of George T. and Jennie Lou (Montgomery) Crank. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and retired in 1977 from Dayton Press, McCall Corp. after 31 years of service. Mr. Crank was a member of Eaton Baptist Temple and UCT -- United Commercial Travels Association of Dayton.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Mabel (Taylor) Crank; three sons, Irvin E. Crank of Newcomerstown, Harold L. Crank of Richmond, Ind., and Howard B. Crank of Hephzibah, Ga.; two daughters, Carolyn Patricia Yadloski of Parachute, Colo., and Janet Wiegand of New Madison.
Also surviving are four brothers, Halla Crank of Modoc, Ind., Floyd Crank of Victorville, Calif., Herbert Crank of Florida and John Crank of Eaton; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 6, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer and the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Edward D. Gray
Edward D. Gray, 49, of Kewanna, Ind., died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester, Ind.
Born July 2, 1948, in Hamilton, he was the son of Thomas and Ethel (Johnson) Gray. He was employed by Federal Mogal and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion of Camden.
Survivors include his wife, Phyliss (Smith) Gray, whom he married June 16, 1972; two children, Kelly (David) Montine of Logansport, Ind., and Michelle (Nicki) Gray of Kewanna, Ind.; one grandchild, Coral Montine of Logansport, Ind.; three brothers, Thomas J. Gray Jr. and Charles W. Gray, both of Kewanna, Ind., and Bob Gray of Logansport, Ind.; and one sister, Reba Jean Silvers of Camden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl Gray; and a brother-in-law, James Silvers.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 6, at R.C. Nein and Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
Dimple P. Carpenter
Dimple P. Carpenter, 68, 115 E. Eidson St., Eaton, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, at Reid Hospital, Richmond, Ind.
Born Nov. 5, 1928 in Hardinsburg, Ky., she was the daughter of Richard L. and Mabel D. Reynolds Hayes, and had lived most of her life in Richmond. She was a cook for the Richmond Community School system.
Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Sparks of Richmond, Ind., Cindy Amburn of Memphis, Tenn, Pam Wiley of New Paris and JoAnn Barker of Eaton; five sons, Michael McClanahan and David McClanahan of New Paris, Howard E. McClanahan and Johnny Allen Duncan of Richmond, Ind. and Eddie Duncan of Lynn, Ind.; 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Robert Jean Lewis of West Alexandria; nieces nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son Robert Lee McClanahan and two sisters, Margerie DeWitt and Alberta Powell.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind. with Pastor Robert Wahlen officiating.
Anthony J. Garber
Anthony Joseph Garber, infant son of Bruce E. and Heather R. (Lehmkuhl) Garber of Pyrmont died at birth on Monday, Sept. 8, 1997.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his twin sister, Brittany Jo Garber; maternal grandfather, Robert Lehmkuhl of Milford; paternal grandparents, Joseph R. and Karen Garber of Brookville; maternal great-grandparents, Thomas and Gladys Boring of West Chester; paternal great-grandparents, Earl and Edna Garber of Brookville; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Karla Lehmkuhl.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Price's Creek Cemetery near Eldorado, with the Home Brethren officiating. Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood, are in charge of arrangements.
Joseph W. Wilson
Joseph W. Wilson, 84, of Seven Mile, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at the Butler County Care Facility.
Born Oct. 29, 1912, in Estill County, Ky., he was the son of John and Lenora (Hendricks) Wilson. He was the owner and operator of Wilson's Auto Body for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Carol (Hale) Wilson, whom he married in 1938; three daughters, Cynthia Buell of Eaton, Linda (Wayne) Simpson of Hamilton and Judy (Gary) Bowling of Seven Mile; one sister, Gladys (Floyd) Crank of Victorville, Calif.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Billie Jo Bear, James Bear, Lori Jo Hubbard, Kristofer Simpson, Binni Sims and Shelley Couch; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen Wilson; five sisters, Bessie Rush, Edna Mathers, Geneva Mikesell, Barbara Ashbaugh and Grace Webb; and a grandson, David Bear.
Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 30, at Brown Dawson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Orville Roach officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Burial Park, Hamilton.
Dale Boger
Dale Boger, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at his home in Beaver Falls, Pa. He was a former resident of Camden.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; a daughter; two sons; a sister, Katherine Boger Gabbard of Hamilton; and a brother, Eugene Boger of Lewisburg.
Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 9, in Beaver Falls, Pa.
Nora M. Proffitt
Nora Mae Proffitt, 85, of New Lebanon, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Harborside Care Center.
Born April 25, 1912, in Rockford, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William and Maude (Purdy) Lee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norville David Proffitt, on June 6, 1993; and brothers, Carl and Earl Lee.
Survivors include sons, Paul and wife Jerry Proffitt of New Lebanon, and Dan Proffitt of Clearwater, Fla.; daughters, Doris and husband Bill McIntosh, and Janet Neal, all of Germantown; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Hoblet of Haslett, Mich., and Cleo Applegate of Okemos, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Janette Lee of Michigan.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 1, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Harold Ady officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.

Everett L. Noe
Everett L. Noe, 82, of New Lebanon, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born June 20, 1915, in Irvine, Ky., he was the son of the late Louis and Louisa (Crider) Noe. He retired in 1975 from the Dayton Parks and Recreation Department after 25 years, had served in the CCC during World War II, and was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Fannie (Beckley) Noe, on Aug. 3, 1988; brothers, Ben, Grant and William Noe; sisters, Beverly Noe, Martha Jane Puckett and Lillie Mae Tipton.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Barbara Noe of West Alexandria, Wade A. and Anna Noe of Trotwood, and Dwight W. Noe of Dayton; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Arnold Smith of Centerville, Ohio, Anna C. and Billy D. Dennis of West Milton, Etta C. and Lloyd Kniceley Sr. of Quincy, Ohio, Frances A. and Jim Howard of West Alexandria; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 3, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Raymond Rothwell officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.
