Gilbert F. Wolfe
Gilbert F. "Bud" Wolfe, 71, of State Line Road, Eaton, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at his home.
Born Oct. 12, 1926, in Oxford, he was the son of Shirley and Irene (McAdams) Wolfe. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, John and Mable (Swafford) McAdams. Mr. Wolfe was a retired Union County, Ind., and Preble County farmer; Dixon Township clerk; and a member of Concord United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Donna J. (Parks) Wolfe; daughter and son-in-law, Claudia W. and Dr. Patrick Anderson of New Paris; son and daughter-in-law, Oran T. and Diane Wolfe of Liberty, Ind.; great aunt, Icerea Swafford Gardner of Liberty, Ind.; grandsons, William Marc Bowers, Stephen Gilbert Wolfe, Matthew David Bowers and Travis Oran Wolfe.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 10, at Concord United Church of Christ, Eaton, with the Rev. Richard Van Tine and the Rev. Dana Hadden officiating. Burial was in Concord Cemetery in Dixon Township. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

James L. Lutz
James L. "Jamie" Lutz, 31, of Sample Drive, West Alexandria, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis, Ind.
Born March 10, 1966, in Dayton, he was the son of Dale E. and Mary Ann (Lanthrop) Lutz. He was employed as a cook at T.A. Truckstop, Eaton.
Survivors include a son, James Lutz Jr. of West Alexandria; three brothers, Dale Lutz and Mark Lutz, both of West Alexandria, and Michael Lutz of Eaton; his mother, Mary Ann Lutz of West Alexandria; grandmother, Opal Lanthrop of Eaton; grandfather, Wilbur Lutz of Eaton; his ex-wife and friend, Michelle Worley of West Alexandria; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services were Monday, Jan. 12, at Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. There was no public calling. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
Edward Begley
Edward Begley, 78, of 2982 West Florence-Campbellstown Road, Eaton, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Ind.
Born March 17, 1919, in Owsley County, Ky., he was the son of Fred and Lullie (Dunn) Begley, and had lived in Preble County for the past 45 years. He was retired from the paint shop at Wayne Corp., Richmond, Ind. Mr. Begley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post #360, New Paris.
Survivors include his wife, Viola (Stepp) Begley; two daughters, Dorothy Johnson of New Paris and Kathy Ray of Camdenton, Mo.; three grandchildren, Rhonda Ullery, Lonnie Johnson and Ronnie Johnson; six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Mitchel Lynch of Indianapolis, Ind.; five sisters, Jessie Ashcraft of Harrison, Ohio, Junie Gross of Connersville, Ind., Rosie Bell Fike of Irvin, Ky., Lillie Mae Dunn of Richmond, Ind., and Mabel Lee of North Vernon, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lesley Begley.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 12, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Howard Addison officiating. Burial, with military graveside services, was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.

Edwin E. Leas Sr.
Edwin E. Leas Sr., 82, formerly of Monroe Central Road, West Manchester, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at The Brethren's Home in Greenville.
Born April 18, 1915, in Darke County, he was the son of the late Richard Hayes and Rosa Mae (Noggle) Leas. He retired in 1981 after 24 years as custodian at the C.R. Coblentz School District. He was previously employed by International Harvester for 25 years until the plant moved from Richmond, Ind., in the 1950s.
Mr. Leas had been a member of Price's Creek Church of the Brethren since 1948, and had held many offices, including deacon, during his membership. He was a member of the Preble County Historical Society; a member of Preble's Little Turtles camping club since 1972, and the club's chaplain from 1972 to 1994. He was also a member of the Slowdowners Camping Club; and a member of the Darke County Ostomy Club.
He served as a 4-H leader for 10 years; was a member of the Senior Citizens' Participants Council for 10 years; Triple L Senior Citizens Club; Preble County Coalition for the Elderly; and Farm Bureau Council #3.
In 1984, he and his wife were chosen Outstanding Seniors of the Year, and the same year, he was also the Senior Citizens' Pork Festival King.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo (Shelley) Leas, whom he married June 27, 1936; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Bill Jones of New Paris, Joellen and Lou Driggs of Eaton; one son and daughter-in-law, Edwin Jr. and Fanny Leas of Eaton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Verna Leas of Richmond, Ind.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Roy Leas, Guy Leas, Herman Leas, Richard Leas and Eugene Leas; and two sisters, Wealtha Marker and Kathryn Miller.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester, with the Rev. David D. Shetler officiating. Burial was in Monroe Cemetery, Eldorado.

Maxine McCashland
Maxine McCashland, 88, a former resident of Liberty, Ind., died Friday morning, Jan. 9, 1998, at Heritage Regency Nursing Center in Richmond, Ind.
Born June 23, 1909, in Union County, Ind., she was the daughter of Clayton and Elizabeth (Baither) Montgomery. She had lived in Union County all her life until moving to the nursing home.
Mrs. McCashland was a 1927 graduate of Kitchel High School, and a 1930 graduate of the Reid Memorial Hospital School of Nursing with an R.N. degree. Most of her nursing career was spent at Reid Memorial Hospital, Richmond, Ind., where she retired in 1981. She was a member of Liberty Church of Christ in Liberty, Ind.
Survivors include one son, James E. McCashland of Liberty, Ind.; one daughter, Ann A. Hart of Eaton; one brother, Willard Montgomery of Liberty, Ind.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett C. McCashland, in 1991; and two brothers, Robert Montgomery and Ralph Montgomery.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Ind., followed by burial in West Point Cemetery, Liberty, Ind.

Robert H. Earich
Robert H. "Bob" Earich, 44, of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.
Born April 18, 1953, in Dayton, he was the son of Emmett E. and Mary (Phillips) Earich. He was employed by the B.F. Goodrich Co. in Troy for the past seven years, and had previously worked for GM at the Inland Products and Delco Moraine plants. He attended the First Baptist Church of Farmersville.
Survivors include his wife, Cherea R. (Knore) Earich, whom he married May 20, 1972; two sons, Jed C. and Jason D. Earich, both of West Alexandria, mother, Mary Hartley and husband Frank of Miamisburg; brothers and sisters, Sandy Gary and husband Fred of New Madison, Pam Houck and husband Jim of Farmersville, Richard Earich and wife Denise of West Carrollton, Cheryl Phillips and husband Mark of Miamisburg.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor Tom Vorhis officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Evon Welborn
Evon Welborn, 92, a resident of Greenbriar Nursing Center, Eaton, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998.
Born Sept. 11, 1905, in Hancock County, Ind., she was the daughter of Fred and Elmina (Newlan) Gates.
She was married to James Welborn on July 28, 1923, in Indianapolis, Ind. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1976.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and William Bowers of Eaton, Corrine and Melvin Price of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, James B. and Juanita Welborn of Tyner, Ky., Jerry T. and Jane Welborn of Bath, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Gates of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Kathleen Martin of Indianapolis, Ind., and Helen Tuttle of Conroe, Texas; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Herbert, Harvey and Eugene Gates.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 13, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, with the Rev. Malcolm Greene officiating. Burial was in Collinsville Cemetery.

Wylie D. Hoff
Wylie D. Hoff, 49, of 223 E. Maple St., West Manchester, formerly of Lewisburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1948, in Dayton, he had lived at Shawen Acres and was adopted in 1957 by Robert E. and Sylvia J. (Trittschuh) Hoff. He attended Millersburg Military Institute in Kentucky and Lewisburg High School. He was employed by Don Colville Construction and J. & D. Construction, both of Lewisburg.
Mr. Hoff was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, having served from 1967 to 1968. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Lewisburg and the church choir director, a member of VFW Post 975 and the American Legion.
Survivors include his mother, Sylvia Jane Hoff of Lewisburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Willard E. "Bill" and Gloria Hoff of Springboro; two nieces, Patricia and Stephanie Hoff of Springboro; one nephew, Greg Hoff of Albuquerque, N.M.; and other family.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. Jon Thomas and the Rev. David Justis officiating. Burial, with full military services, will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Virginia Brubaker
Virginia Brubaker, 72, of Dayton, originally from Eaton, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.
She was a member of Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church, and was active at the Hithergreen Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Brubaker; and her sister, Kay Freeman.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Brubaker, and Michael and Sue Brubaker; and one grandson, J.R. Brubaker.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville, Ohio, with the Rev. Julia Wharff officiating. Burial will be in Twin Valley Cemetery, Gratis. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Paul K. Coning
Paul K. Coning, 59, of Celina, formerly of Eaton, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 1997.
Born Dec. 5, 1938, in Wayne County, Ind., he was the son of the late Harry Clifford and Hannah May (Nossett) Coning. He was a retired truck driver for Emerson Electric Co.
Mr. Coning served in the U.S. Army, was a member of American Legion Post 210 of Celina, VFW of Eaton, Eagles Lodge #1291 and Moose Lodge #1473, both of Celina, the Teamsters Union and the South Shore Sportsmans Club of Celina.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kristine Coning of Richmond, Va., Richard and Cassandra Coning of Trenton; a special friend, Martha Connolly of Celina; grandchildren, Stephanie Renee, Michael Aaron, Michael Scott, Justin Lee, Joshua Richard and Richard Scott Jr.; a sister, Kay Brown of New Paris; two brothers, Joe Coning of Hollansburg and Harold Coning of Fountain City, Ind.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 3, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, followed by burial in Preble Memory Gardens.
