Chastine Craig
Chastine Craig, 95, formerly of Camden, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Oxford View Nursing Center in Oxford.
Born July 13, 1902, in West Elkton, she was the daughter of the late Burgess Dewitt and Ada (Smoyer) Talbert. She attended Spiceland Academy and Earlham College. Mrs. Craig and her husband had owned and operated Superior Hardware. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star.
In September 1928, she married George Craig, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1959. Two daughters, Marilyn Scott and Joan Cotterman, are also deceased.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Earl Dudley of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were Saturday, Jan. 3, at Fairmount Cemetery, Camden, with the Rev. William Walthour officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Camden Presbyterian Church. R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, is in charge of arrangements.
Glenna A. Hapner
Glenna A. (Howard) Hapner, 78, formerly of 412 Park Terrace Drive, Richmond, Ind., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Kennedale, Texas.
Born March 30, 1919, in Germantown, she was the daughter of Clyde E. and Della (Brill) Howard. She moved from Eaton to Richmond in 1948. She was co-owner of the J & H Supermarket, had formerly worked for First National Bank and was the Wayne County deputy assessor.
She was a member of the Richmond Church of the Brethren where she served as deaconess and clerk, and was a former member and past president of Omega Phi Tau Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Willard "Hap" Hapner, who died April 25, 1987.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris Decker of Mansfield, Texas; two grandsons, Brad and Kevin Thomasson, both of Texas; one great-grandson; and one nephew.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 2, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., with the Rev. Clyde Hylton officiating. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery.

Nathan Combs Sr.
Nathan Combs Sr., 67, of Moses Road, West Alexandria, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Feb. 2, 1930, in Clayhole, Ky., he was the son of French and Isabelle (Neace) Combs. He retired from Harrison Radiator in 1980 after 32 years, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Glenwood.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Cynthia M. Combs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Grace Combs of New Lebanon, Nathan Jr. and Jerri Combs of Clayhole, Ky.; one daughter and son-in-law, Geneva and Gary McKinney of West Alexandria; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Shade Combs of New Lebanon and Bedford Combs of Florida; seven sisters, Genevieve Mott of West Milton, Myrtle Jones of Englewood, Margaret Allen of Dayton, Mary Chaney of Campton, Ky., Maureen Davidson of Jackson, Ky., Maud McVey of Pine, Colo., and Ruby Hardin of Hazard, Ky.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kay Combs, in 1980; and three sisters, Orpha Lou Combs, Merle Smallwood and Edna Jones.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Harold Paul Combs officiating. A second service was held Friday, Jan. 2, at Deaton Funeral Home, Jackson, Ky. Burial was in McIntosh Cemetery, Clayhole, Ky.
Sharon A. Mackie
Sharon Ann Mackie, 61, of Spacht Road, Eaton, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg.
Born Sept. 26, 1936, in Spencer, Ind., she was the daughter of Overlin and Pearl (Hopper) Jackson.
Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Harold D. Mackie; stepfather, Harold Seymour of Spencer, Ind.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Murinna and Danny Sparks of Spencer, Ind., Cheryl and Donald Emminger of Crawfordsville, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, William V. and Teresa Frye of Spencer, Ind.
Also surviving are three stepdaughters, Patricia Mackie and Sandra Kay Mackie, both of Lexington, Ky., and Peggy Sue Mackie of Eaton; two stepsons, Duane Eddy Mackie of Lexington, Ky., and Timothy Jason Mackie of Eaton; four grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Allen Frye, in 1981.
Funeral services and burial were held at the convenience of the family. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Earl W. Marker
Earl W. Marker, 80, of Eaton, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at his home following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 10, 1917, in Eaton, he was the son of Walter C. and Veva J. (Stephen) Marker. He graduated from Eaton High School in 1937, then worked at Apple Manufacturing in Dayton, Campbell's Dry Goods and the Boston Store, both in Eaton. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
After the service, Mr. Marker returned to Eaton to work at the Boston Store. He was employed by that organization for 48 years, in Eaton, Greenville and Union City, Ind., retiring in 1989 when the Boston Store went out of business.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy L. (Davis) Marker; two daughters and son-in-law, Deanne L. and James Whittaker, and Sandra G. Marker, all of Eaton; a grandson and his wife, Ronald E. II and Diane Rodeffer and her daughter, Danielle Plyly of Camden.
Also surviving are a step-grandson, Rusty Whittaker of Versailles; two step-granddaughters, Robin Thomas and Cathy Robison of Greenville; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Alice M. (Marker) Beane of Colorado; a niece and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 3, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Lowell Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Zenobia E. Crouse
Zenobia Edith Crouse, 79, of Columbus, formerly of Preble County, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in Columbus.
Born Aug. 24, 1918, in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late Irvin Edgar and Pearl Alice (Petry) Wehrly.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Wilma Crouse of Gratis; two daughters, Joan Nice of Columbus and Carolyn Zimmerman of Trotwood; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell Wehrly of Dayton; and two sisters, Doris King of Miamisburg and Garnet Jakab of Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Crouse, on Nov. 20, 1991; a son, Carl F. Crouse Jr., in 1940; two brothers, Paul and Byron Wehrly; and one sister, Opal Baltes.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 3, at Rosehill Road Church of God, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 5, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Lowell Lay officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery near West Alexandria.

Mary Jo Wright
Mary Jo Wright, 51, of Miami, Fla., formerly of Lewisburg, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Baptist Hospital in Miami.
She was born Nov. 17, 1946, in Dayton, was a 1964 graduate of Twin Valley North High School and had an associate degree in banking from Sinclair Community College. Prior to moving to Florida, she worked for People's Banking in Lewisburg for 16 years.
She had lived in Florida for 17 years and was a vice-president for the Commercial Bank of Florida. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and Calvary Methodist Church of Lewisburg.
Survivors include her parents, Orlan James and Bertha Marcella (Burris) Wright of Lewisburg; a brother, Darrell Wright of Centerville, Ohio; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 5, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. David Justis officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery near West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society -- Preble County Unit.
Wilbur W. Wright
Wilbur W. "Mike" Wright, 76, of Eaton, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at his home following an extended illness.
Born June 21, 1921, in Preble County, he was the son of Mathew and Mary (Frisco) Wright. He retired in 1982 from public service in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and early in 1997 after 14 years as an employee of Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home in Eaton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater, where he received the Purple Heart and the Croix de Guerre. He was a member of VFW Post #1577 of Camden and American Legion Post #322 of West Alexandria.
Survivors include his companion of four years, Hazel Jones of Eaton; a special niece, Norma Jean Thompson of Camden; two brothers, Conley Wright of West Manchester and Bob Wright of Harrisburg, Va.; three sisters, Norma Berman of Richmond, Ind., Mary Stover and Bea Montgomery, both of Eaton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 4, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Fred Hill officiating. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.

Richard Longnecker
Richard Longnecker, 80, of Lewisburg and Bradenton, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at BrookHaven Nursing and Care Center in Brookville.
Born Jan. 19, 1917, in Lewisburg, he was the son of John A. and Marie (Dewitt) Longnecker. He was a 1935 graduate of Lewisburg High School, and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was agent and owner of Longnecker Insurance Agency in Eaton for more than 30 years.
Mr. Longnecker was a board member and past board president of Buckeye State Mutual Insurance Company in Celina, a member of Paul Sodders Post #213 American Legion of Lewisburg, Libanus Lodge #80 F&AM of Lewisburg, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and Calvary United Methodist Church in Lewisburg.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Marlene (Fleagle) Longnecker; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Adams of Pontiac, Ill.; four grandchildren, Gene Andrew Jordan Jr., Amy Elizabeth Lamermayer, Andrea Eva Robertson and Angela Maria Jordan; and one great-grandchild, Blake Robertson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Longnecker Jordan, in 1993; and a brother, James Longnecker.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. David Justis officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. A Masonic service was conducted on Monday following viewing. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
