George W. Davis
George W. Davis, 67, of Somerville, died Friday morning, Jan. 16, 1998, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born Dec. 10, 1930, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Reason and Teresa (Stubbs) Davis. He retired in 1992 from Inland Container Co. in Middletown, where he had worked for 43 years. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton and the IOOF of Gratis.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. (Upton) Davis, whom he married June 2, 1951; children, Donna White of Eaton, George Davis II of Mason, David Davis of Waynesville, Darrell Davis and wife Dorothy of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Bessie Morris and husband Finley of Franklin, Helen Helms and husband Dan of Prescott, Ariz., and Dorothy Marker of Eaton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Russell, Virgil, Kenneth and Ray Davis.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Lowell Spencer officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Gregory E. Hensel
Gregory E. Hensel, 49, of Lewisburg, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born July 14, 1948, in Dayton, he had lived in Preble County all his life. He was a laborer at Whirlpool Corporation in Greenville. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, and attended West Manchester United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Connie J. (Stikeleather) Hensel, whom he married July 16, 1969; his parents, Byron and Gladys (Human) Hensel of West Manchester; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Kenneth Jr. McHargue of West Manchester; a son, David Hensel of Panama City, Fla.; a granddaughter, Rebecca McHargue; two sisters, Joy Smith of Eaton and Jocelyn Blunk of Brookville; a brother, Rex Hensel of West Manchester; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Jim Condrey officiating. Burial, with military graveside services, will be in Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester.

Edna V. Slorp
Edna V. Slorp, 96, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Harborside Healthcare in New Lebanon.
A native of Preble County, she was the daughter of Frank and Matilda (Apple) Hoops.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a sister, Iva Faha; and a brother, Clyde Hoops.
Survivors include two brothers, Ellsworth Hoops of Dayton and Roy Hoops of Lewisburg; two sisters, Orpha Freeman of New Lebanon and Hazel Scott of Lewisburg; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Andrew H. Parks
Andrew H. "Andy" Parks, 90, of Eaton, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton after an extended illness.
Born March 26, 1907, in Dixon Township (Preble County), he was the son of Lot L. and Julia H. (Bostick) Parks. He was a 1926 graduate of Dixon Township High School, and retired in 1979 from farming in both Washington and Dixon townships. He was a member of the Preble County Farm Bureau. Mr. Parks was an avid collector of Indian artifact.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Irene (Swihart) Parks; one niece; five nephews; and one cousin.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clement Parks and Morris Parks; and two sisters, Mary Louise Parks and Irene Decker.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Marlon Byrd Sr.
Marlon Byrd Sr., 64, of Somerville, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at his home.
Born Jan. 17, 1934, in Menifee County, Ky., he was the son of Henry and Lizzie Byrd. He was employed by Hueston Woods State Park for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Allene (Means) Byrd, whom he married Dec. 26, 1950, in Menifee County, Ky.; two daughters, Linda (Gary) Finkbine of Darrtown and Marline Pennington of Middletown; three sons, Marlon (Tammy) Byrd Jr. of Oxford, Ricky Dean (Angie) Byrd of Somerville and Douglas Clay (Paula) Byrd of Camden; 10 grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Arlon Byrd of Missouri; six sisters, Oglene Brooks of Kentucky, Edna Byrd of Middletown, Zori Center of Eaton, Bonnie Martin of Winchester, Ky., Geraldine Byrd of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Kathleen Byrd of Missouri; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Byrd; and a brother, Garland Byrd.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 19, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, followed by burial in Butler County Memorial Park.

Shelby Brillhart
Shelby Brillhart, 25, of 4092 Manchester Road, Franklin, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at the home of her sister in Largo, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, Michael; her father and stepmother, James and Roberta Lewis of Glenshaw, Pa.; a sister, Denise Welsh; stepsister, Sarah Lewis; and stepbrother, Timothy Lewis.
Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 11, at New Covenant Church, Franklin, followed by burial in Springboro Cemetery.
Fay L. Gross
Fay L. (Bunch) Gross, 75, of Eaton, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998.
Born Sept. 14, 1922, in Pikeville, Ky., she was a member of Full Gospel Temple in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Garnett Gross, in 1990.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ray Johnson, Phyllis and Ronald Mullins, Regina and Todd Ozbun; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ned and Jacquie Gross, Pete and Alice Gross, Garland and Pauline Gross; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Susie, Salley, Ida and Joan; one brother, Bob; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at George C. Martin Funeral Home, Northridge Chapel, 5040 Frederick Pike at Needmore Road, Dayton, with the Rev. Raymond Rothwell officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. The family will receive friends from noon until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
Violet J. Comer
Violet J. Comer, 67, of West Alexandria, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Dec. 6, 1930, she was the daughter of Roy and Mary (Spitler) Eubank.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Comer Sr.; two sons, Herbert Comer Jr. of Eaton and Christopher Comer of West Alexandria; two daughters, Diana Vice of Eaton and Brenda Miller of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Clifford Eubank of Celina and Leonard Eubank of New Paris; and one sister, Irene Comer of West Alexandria.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Eubank.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ingomar, with the Rev. Larry Kettlehake officiating. Burial will be in Twin Valley Cemetery, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth A. Tyler
Elizabeth A. Tyler, 73, of Eaton, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Sept. 30, 1924, in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late Curtis A. and Elizabeth A. (Seles) Niles, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a 1941 graduate of Eaton High School, and a member of the Eaton Church of the Visitation.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Tyler, whom she married May 21, 1949; a daughter, Elizabeth J. Bennett of Richmond, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Billie Jean Flood of Richmond, Ind.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A brother, Curtis Eugene Niles, is deceased.
Funeral Mass will be at noon Friday, Jan. 23, at the Eaton Church of the Visitation, with the Rev. J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive freinds from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton.

John E. Horigan Sr.
John E. Horigan Sr., 78, formerly of New Paris, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at his home in Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1919, in New Paris, he was the son of James J. and Mae (Hubler) Horigan. He had been employed at the Holiday Inn of Richmond, Ind., for 19 years, and had worked for Jones & Juday and Jefferson Township.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty L. (Keller) Horigan; two daughters, Shirley Moore and Carol Keller, both of Eaton; one brother, James Horigan of Florida; three sisters, Anna Stolle of Richmond, Ind., Pat McGrady of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mary Margaret Mull of Aragon, Ga.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, John E. Horigan Jr., in October 1991; and two brothers, Paul Horigan, in 1984, and Francis H. Horigan, in 1991.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 22, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Hyre officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
