Ruth A. Adam
Ruth A. Adam, 89, formerly of Lewisburg, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Horizon South West Nursing Center in Silver City, N.M.
Born June 17, 1908, in Van Wert, she was the daughter of Fred U. and Minnie Irene (Tipple) Wallick. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewisburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Adam, in 1984; three brothers, John, Clarence and Jack Wallick; and a sister, Lela Rust.
Survivors include a son, Stanley W. Thorne of Silver City, N.M.; a daughter, Carol Ann Fowler of Elizabeth, Pa.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Yeager of Ohio and Berneice Blush of Georgia.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. Jon Thomas and the Rev. Charles Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Dayton Memorial Park, Dayton. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home.

Marlan N. Miller
Marlan Nadean Miller, 79, of Cleveland, Tenn., formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998.
Born April 6, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Chana Irwin, formerly of Castine. She studied at Wittenberg University and graduated from Miami University. She had been a school teacher in Darke County for 37 years, having taught at Hollansburg, Arcanum Butler, Franklin-Monroe, and retiring in 1976 from the Greenville school system-Woodland Heights Elementary building. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of Greenville and various other local organizations.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Leon Miller, whom she married May 8, 1943; one son, Dr. Ted. L. Miller of Cleveland, Tenn.; one grandson, Dr. Tod J. Miller of Gonzales, La.; three step-grandchildren, Scott Kirby, Steve Kirby and Susan Burnett, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; five step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Irwin and Don Irwin, both of Greenville; and one sister, Helen Irwin Oler of West Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Dale Irwin; and a sister, Ettaleene Irwin Hunt.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Castine Cemetery, with the Rev. Calvin Cheek officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville.
Violet C. Kiser
Violet C. Kiser, 92, of New Lebanon, formerly of New Paris, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998.
She was a secretary for Thresher Varnish Co. for many years.
Her husband, Joseph Kiser, preceded her in death in 1969.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Carrigan & Mains Funeral Home, 675 W. Wenger Road, Englewood, with Father Charles Caserta officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dayton. There will be no public visitation.
Frank Brumbaugh
Frank Brumbaugh, 80, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998.
He was the son of the late Harvey and Ethel (Stockslager) Brumbaugh.
Survivors include six children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and cousins. He was the nephew of Sylvia Herbst of Eaton and Roy Stockslager of New Lebanon.
Harold E. Emrick
Harold Eugene "Gene" Emrick, 63, of Dayton, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born Nov. 18, 1934, in Farmersville, he was the son of Chester and Laura (Gunckle) Emrick. He had been employed by Buckeye Potato Chips and Trotwood Lanes for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Dorothy E. (Townsend) Emrick; stepdaughters and husbands, Barbara and Mike Finfrock, Brenda and Bob Bauer, all of Dayton, Bev and Mike McNeal of New Lebanon; stepsons and wives, Charles and Debora Caskey of Union, Jerry and Jewell Caskey of Moraine, Terry and Tonya Caskey of Dayton; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise L. Emrick of Trotwood, Louella L. Emrick of Dayton, Dorothy and Edward Zunda of Wallingford, Conn., Ethel and Emerson Gilbert of Germantown, Rena and Jerry Coate of Pleasant Hill; brothers and sister-in-law, Everett L. Emrick of Chillicothe, William and Ila Jo Emrick of Farmersville; brothers-in-law and spouse, John and Marilyn Townsend, and Myron Townsend, all of Dayton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert S. Raymond B., Norman L. and Kenneth Emrick; and a brother-in-law, Harry Townsend.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 31, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor L.O. Prosser officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
George W. Eby
George W. Eby, 76, of South Preble County Line Road, West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born April 25, 1921, in Lanier Township (Preble County), he was the son of Clarence and Nellie (Foutz) Eby. He was a 1940 graduate of Lanier High School and a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. He was a member of the West Alexandria American Legion and St. John's Lutheran Church at Ingomar.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Cleo N. (Wesson) Eby; three sons, Robert W. Shafer, William R. Shafer and George W. Eby, all of West Alexandria; two daughters, Suzanne Zimmerman of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Marianna Eby Gunsalus of Eaton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Oren Eby of Eaton, Daniel Eby of Farmersville and Joseph Eby of New Lebanon; and one sister, Susie Suggs of West Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David Eby, in 1977.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 1, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Mike Millum officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.

John R. Long
John R. Long, 66, of North Maple Street, Eldorado, died Saturday morning, Jan. 31, 1998, at Lebanon Health Care Center in Lebanon after an extended illness.
Born April 30, 1931, in Collinsville, Ill., he was the son of Melvin O. and Arita J. (DePaoli) Long. He was a Korean War veteran, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Hoosier Container in Richmond, Ind.
Mr. Long was a former member of the Eldorado Fire Department and Eldorado Village Council. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in New Paris; past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Marion Council #3754 of Dayton; and the West Manchester American legion.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Joan A. (Gnaedinger) Long; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Teresa Long of West Manchester, a daughter, Diana Long of Eldorado; two grandchildren, Samuel and Elisabeth Long, both of West Manchester; two sisters, Jeannie Miller and Edna Zobrist, both of Highland, Ill.; two brothers, Anthony Long of Chicago, Ill., and Melvin Long of Highland, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Sego and Deloras Long.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at St. John's Catholic Church in New Paris, with the Rev. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home-Eldorado Chapel, 311 N. Main St., is in charge of arrangements. The Knights of Columbus conducted services Tuesday evening following visitation.
Dorothy M. Lesh
Dorothy M. Lesh, 78, of Englewood, formerly of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998.
Born Aug. 22, 1919, in Perry Township (Montgomery County), she was the daughter of the late Homer F. and Carrie A. (Holp) Dafler. She had worked for Rike-Kumler Department Store for 12 years, and was a member of the Brookville Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Orville E. Lesh; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Estell Lesh of Trotwood; a sister, Shirley Flory of Macon, Ga.; a niece, Linda Farris; and a great-niece, Laura Farris of Macon, Ga.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry L. Lesh, in 1975.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor Jack Little officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Flora Sudwischer
Flora Sudwischer, 81, of Ohio 122 South, West Alexandria, formerly of Trenton, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born Aug. 13, 1916, in Xenia, she was the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Shaw) Ireton. She retired from Blumberg & Cohen Metals in Middletown. Mrs. Sudwischer was a member of the Ingomar Mothers' Club and Salem Lutheran Church in West Alexandria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1981.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Ed Lockhart, Ann and Jerry Cooper, all of West Alexandria; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sudwischer of Seven Mile; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Also deceased are two sons, John "Fritz" Sudwischer and Karl Sudwischer; and two sisters, Mary Allen and Dorothy Fletcher.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Armstead
Ruth Armstead, 69, of Eaton, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.
Born Dec. 28, 1928, in Hamilton, she was the daughter of the late John and Marie (Webb) Nilles. She was active in the Preble County Council on Aging.
Her husband, Jack Armstead, died in 1983. A brother, Calvin Nilles, is also deceased.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Denis and Susan Armstead of Eaton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Thomas Marshall, Amy and Joseph Shiplett, all of Eaton, Mary and Jeffrey Hancock of Centerville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Fern Smith of Harrison, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, with the Rev. Richard E. Van Tine officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton.

Nelson B. Witt
Nelson B. Witt, 74, of Dayton, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Harborside Healthcare Center in New Lebanon.
Born Nov. 30, 1923, in Richmond, Ky., he was the son of the late Elvin and Amanda (Cox) Witt. An electrician with the Riverside Electric Co. for nine years, he retired in 1977.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pauline (Eversole) Witt; children and their spouses, Donald and Betty Witt of Lebanon, Mike and Lottie Witt, Joan and Ken Porter, all of Dayton, Gary and Lisa Witt of New Lebanon; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, Clelly Witt of Richmond, Ky., Morris Witt of Middletown and Gene Witt of Winchester, Ky.; sisters, Adabelle Horn of Richmond, Ky., Florine Isaccs of Richmond, Ky., and Minnie Bentley of Franklin.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Witt.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the chapel.
