George Scott Jr.
George Scott Jr., 76, of Greenwood, Ind., died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Indianapolis.
Born Aug. 24, 1921, in Indianapolis, Ind., he was the son of George Scott Sr. and Josephine (Callaway) Hampton. He was a supervisor of small parts with Diamond Chain in Indianapolis for 43 years, retiring in April 1983. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Smith Valley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jean (Mitchell) Scott, whom he married on Nov. 22, 1951; a daughter, Anna Jo Condon of Trafalgar; a son, David Wilkerson of Greenwood, Ind.; a sister, Joann Boerner of Eaton; a brother, Lloyd Scott of Hudson, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 5, at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Chapel in Indiana, followed by burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to Smith Valley United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Una A. McFarland
Una Agnes McFarland, 99, of Eaton, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 3, 1998, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born Sept. 16, 1898, in Fort Recovery, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late August C. and Mary M. Ellis. She retired as a cook from the food service department of the Pontiac, Mich., public schools, and moved to Eaton in 1969.
Survivors include a son, William Miles MacAbee of Brownsburg, Ind.; a daughter, Vivian Corbett of Allen Park, Mich.; eight grandchildren including Jenny Campbell-Roux of Lewisburg; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester L. McFarland, in 1973; a daughter, Patricia Dove Campbell, in 1991; a son, Leonard MacAbee, in 1975; four sisters, Jenny, Dove, Dollie and Irene; and one brother.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 6, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association-Preble County Unit.

Dennis E. Hoke
Dennis E. Hoke, 42, of West Main Street, New Paris, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 3, 1998, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born March 7, 1955, in Dayton, he was a 1973 graduate of National Trail High School, and served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 to 1979. He was a salesman for Eaton Supply Company since 1979. Mr. Hoke was a past member of the C.R. Coblentz Board of Education from 1993 to 1997, a member and past president of the National Trail Boosters Club, and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of New Paris.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Kim (Mowry) Hoke; two sons, Chad and Jason Hoke, both of New Paris; a daughter, Samantha Hoke of New Paris; his parents, Franklin and Shirley (Lee) Hoke of Eldorado; grandfathers, Floyd Lee of New Paris and Cleo Hoke of Arcanum.
Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Terri Hoke of Covington, Ohio; father- and mother-in-law, Dale and Sondra Mowry of Eldorado; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Kim Mowry of Eaton; a sister-in-law, Vicki Mowry of Eldorado; three nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 6, at the First Baptist Church in New Paris, with the Rev. John Allen and the Rev. Reggie Osborne officiating. Burial was in Wares Chapel Cemetery in Monroe Township. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Trail Boosters Club.

Diane T. Kirkpatrick
Diane Theresa (Cope) Kirkpatrick, 35, of Camden, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
She was born Feb. 21, 1961, in San Bernardino, Calif. She graduated from Preble Shawnee High School in 1980, where she had many accomplishments including FHA officer, Fair Queen representative, Miss Ohio FHA representative, convention delegate, district and state rallies, Pep Club, choir, county banquet, Award of Merit, Recognition Skills, Science Fair, elementary aide, French Club, Debate Club, Drama Club, school plays, FTA and "Who's Who Among American Students."
Survivors include her husband, David Kirkpatrick, whom she married Feb. 21, 1981; a daughter, Stephanie Diane Kirkpatrick of Camden; her parents, Mickey and Marilyn (Levangie) Cope of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Barbara (Brian) Karns of Eaton, Joyce Cope of Richmond, Ind., Virginia and Kelley (Andrew) Thacker of New Lebanon; one brother, Mickey (Krista) Cope Jr. of Richmond, Va.
His father- and mother-in-law, Butch and Evelyn Kearby of Kettering; a sister-in-law, Judy (Charlie) Bush of Germantown; brother-in-law, Jim (Vicki) Kirkpatrick of Carlisle; nieces and nephews, Victoria Diane Cope, Megan Lee and Kristina Marilyn Karns, Andrew Chester, Brent Edward Cash and Morgan Elizabeth Thacker, Mickey Eugene Cope III, Jeremy Dale, Chad Ryan Kirkpatrick, Jason Brian, Justin Wayne and Jessica Ann Bush.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Feb. 7, at Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton, with Father J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials and other correspondence are suggested to David and Stephanie Kirkpatrick, 85 N. Second St., Camden, Ohio 45311.

Conley W. Wright
Conley W. Wright, 85, of West Manchester, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born Feb. 22, 1912, in Washington Township (Preble County), he was the son of the late Mathew and Mary (Francisco) Wright. He was a farmer and retired in 1971 from General Motors, Frigidaire Division, after 30 years in the maintenance department.
Mr. Conley, known as "Kid" Wright, was a professional welterweight boxer, based in Richmond, Ind., from 1928-1937. He appeared in over 100 fights.
Survivors include his wife, Lois L. (House) Wright, whom he married June 14, 1942; a daughter, Jean Goertemiller of Trotwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale E. and Shirley Kay Wright of West Manchester, Donald L. and Carolyn Wright of Salem, W. Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob Wright of Harrisburg, Va.; three sisters, Nora Berman of Richmond, Ind., Mary Stover and Bea Montgomery, both of Eaton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Scott Wright; five brothers, Vern, Jim, Archie, Orville and Wilbur "Mike" Wright; and two sisters, Juanita Beasley and Kathryn McCord.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 7, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester, with the Rev. Raymond E. Rothwell officiating. Burial was in Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Middletown, 4414 Lewis St., Middletown, Ohio 45044.

Charlotte H. Eikenberry
Charlotte H. Eikenberry, 81, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born March 23, 1916, in Clayton (Montgomery County), she was the daughter of Henry A. and Zelpha (Rasor) Baker. She had lived in the Lewisburg area most of her life. Mrs. Eikenberry was a member of the Potsdam Church of the Brethren, Potsdam, Ohio, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Lewisburg.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald L. Cahill of Dayton, John P. and Judy Cahill of Eaton; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda L. and Robert A. Enoch Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; a stepdaughter, Dianna Parris of Hollansburg.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Maria Adams, John E. Cahill, Curtis A. Cahill, Martin R. Enoch and Romaine Cahill; three step-grandchildren, Jodi Gray, Matthew Parris and Shawna Parris; one great-great-grandchild, John W. Adams; and two step-great-grandchildren, Austin Gray and Garrett Gray.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward J. Cahill in March 1977; her second husband, Ray E. Eikenberry, in October 1997; brothers, Emerson Baker, Harold A. Baker and Virgil Baker; and sisters, Catherine Shiverdecker, Ralphretta Naum and Ruth Baker.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Potsdam Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Robert Kurtz officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewisburg Emergency Unit.

Reva I. Stapleton
Reva Imogene Stapleton, 64, of Camden, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born Aug. 8, 1933, in Middletown, she was the daughter of Ernest and Margaret Henry. She was a member of Somerville Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her husband, William R. Stapleton Sr., whom she married March 27, 1950; three sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Nellie Stapleton, Gregory P. and Norma Jean Stapleton, Dan W. and Susan Stapleton, all of Camden; four brothers, Wallace Henry of Marion, N.C., Ernest Henry Jr. of Erving, Ky., Leroy Henry of Middletown and Edmund Henry of Waynesville.
Also surviving are three sisters, Fern Miller of Middletown, Etta Belle Bailey of Eaton, Wanda Bowling and Bessie Barnett, both of Middletown; five grandchildren, William S. (Becky) Stapleton, Dustin P. Stapleton, Sharon L. Stapleton, Christina M. Stapleton and Dan W. Stapleton Jr.; and one great-grandchild, Ciera Ray Floyd.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 9, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, with Pastor Riley Parker officiating. Burial was in Hickory Flats Cemetery, Overpeck, Ohio.

John A. Diggs
John A. Diggs, 84, of New Paris, died Thursday evening, Feb. 5, 1998, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Aug. 15, 1913, in Richmond, Ind., he was the son of Clarence E. and Donna B. (Fletcher) Diggs. He retired in 1976 from State Line Truck Stop as third shift manager. Prior to that, he was owner and manager of John's Super Value Grocery of New Paris. He was a former New Paris mayor and village council member for 12 years.
Mr. Diggs was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Paris, Masonic Lodge #106 of New Paris, Kiwanis Club of New Paris, where he was past president, past secretary and past lieutenant governor of the Third District.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian E. Diggs, in 1985; two sisters, Doris Irene Moss, in 1970, and Laverne DeBoo, in 1963; and one brother, Melvin E. Diggs, in 1990.
Survivors include one sister, Julia E. Noe of New Paris; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 9, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with Dr. William P. Anderson officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris. Masonic services were conducted Sunday evening following visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Fire &/or Emergency Squad, or to the First Presbyterian Church of New Paris.

Ada J. Burdette
Ada Johnson Burdette, 76, of Newton Grove, N.C., and formerly of New Paris, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.
She was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Randolph County, Ind., and was the daughter of Cyrus and Clara (Climber) Johnson. She retired in 1979 from Dana Corporation in Richmond, Ind., and moved to North Carolina in 1996.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Burdette; a son, Gary Burdette of Fairfield, Ohio; a daughter, Lora Lehman of Newton Grove, N.C.; sisters, Sarah Welge of Butler, Ill., and Edith Guthrie of Muncie, Ind.; a brother, Phillip Johnson of Lynn, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, 109 W. Main St., followed by burial in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris. The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society-Preble County Unit, P.O. Box 203, Eaton, Ohio 45320.

Troy Gross
Troy Gross, 91, of Camden died Sunday evening, Feb. 8, 1998, in Oxford.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Nora (Boggs) Gross; a daughter, Wilma J. (Phil) Price of Montgomery, Ala., a son, Roger (Kathy) Gross of Monroe, Ohio; a granddaughter, Karen Fae Hendrickson of Conway, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Juanita (Farmer) Scott of Somerville; stepsons, Spencer (Phyllis) Combs of Huber Heights, Roy (Georganne) Combs of New Lebanon and Ray (Pat) Combs of Lewisburg; and 13 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, with the Rev. Ed Pennington and the Rev. James Parrott officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
