Virginia N. Arbuckle
Virginia N. Arbuckle, 68, formerly of East Main Street, Verona, died Sunday morning, April 19, 1998, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton after an extended illness.
Born April 5, 1930, in Harlan County, Ky., she was the daughter of Robert L. and Martha (Collins) Shepherd. She had lived in Verona since 1973 and had served as a council member on the Verona Village Council. She was a member of Verona United Methodist Church.
In 1992, she wrote "Original Poetry by Virginia Arbuckle."
Survivors include four sons, Robert C. Combs of Portland, Ore., Bill G. Combs of Indian Lake, George H. Combs of Verona and John M. Arbuckle of Camden; six daughters, Ann Crye of West Manchester, Marty M. Brunson of Land of Lakes, Fla., Judy G. Plaugher, Lydia C. Michael and Patricia L. Pierson, all of Eaton, and Daisy D. Hawkins of Dayton; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Sarah Jane Shepherd of Clarksville, Tenn.; and a brother, Robert L. Shepherd Jr. of Quincy, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Shepherd, in 1997; a sister, Dorothy Moore, in 1988; and a brother, Billy Wayne Shepherd, in 1977.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Verona United Methodist Church, 206 S. State St., Verona, with the Rev. Bill Schilling officiating. Entombment will be at Royal Oak Mausoleum near Brookville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Maynard L. Miller
Maynard L. Miller, 79, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born Dec. 29, 1918, in Dayton, he was the son of John A. and Esther May (Siler) Miller. He was a 1936 graduate of Lewisburg Union High School; a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II; a member of Paul Sodders Post #213 American Legion; Libanus Lodge #80, F&AM; and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, all of Lewisburg.
Mr. Miller retired from Chrysler Corp. in Dayton, and worked at Penn Terra Golf Course in Lewisburg.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Charlotte M. (Hay) Miller; a daughter and son-in-law, Sally L. and David Norvell of Lewisburg; grandson and his wife, Troy A. and Kim A. Norvell of Lewisburg; great-grandchildren, Brittiney, Katelin and Kyle; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory A. Norvell, in 1970; and a brother, Gaylard E. "Bud" Miller, in 1995.
Funeral services were Friday, April 24, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. David Justis officiating. Burial, with military graveside services, was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, to the Lewisburg Emergency Unit, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Julia R. Hill
Julia Ruth Hill, 91, formerly of 8959 Camden-College Corner Road, College Corner, Ohio, died Tuesday afternoon, April 21, 1998, at Hillcrest Estates Nursing Home in Liberty, Ind.
Born Nov. 7, 1906, in Winthrop, Iowa, she was the daughter of Jacob and Alice (Ferguson) DeGreif. She graduated from College Corner High School in 1925 and was a lifetime resident of the College Corner area. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in College Corner, a member of the church's Women's Group, a member of the Chattering Stitchers of College Corner since 1929.
She married Herbert A. Hill on Sept. 13, 1929, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1996. Her parents; and a brother, Lee DeGreif, are also deceased.
Survivors include a son, Gilbert L. Hill of College Corner, Ohio; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Hope Bennett of Grand Rapids, Mich.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, April 24, at Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio.

Charles Collins
Charles Collins, 68, of Gordon, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton after an extended illness.
Born March 25, 1930, in Lexington, Ky., he was the son of George and Bessie (Bently) Collins. He was a Korean War veteran and had retired in 1978 from Falcon Coal Company after 20 years of service.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Portemont and Elaine Smith, both of Gordon; two sons, David Collins and Gary Collins, both of Lewisburg; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Shiverdecker of West Alexandria, Mary Rike of Lewisburg and Alice Denny of Bradford; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville, with the Rev. Bill Schilling officiating. Entombment will be in Royal Oak Mausoleum. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah A. Howard
Sarah Ann Howard, daughter of Max A. and Julie D. Howard of 124 S. Beech St., Eaton, was stillborn Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandmother, Deloris J. Howard of Eaton; maternal grandparents, Neal and Nancy Amstutz of Eaton; and a sister, Lauren Elizabeth Howard, at home.
Graveside services were Tuesday, April 28, at Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Greg A. Hyre officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Jordan
Dorothy Jordan, 80, of North Aukerman Street, Eaton, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Greenbriar Nursing Center.
Born June 18, 1917, she was the daughter of Ward and Ellen (Bliss) DeVilbiss. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in West Alexandria.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Jordan; three daughters, Mary Kelly of Eaton, Lillian Moore and husband Ray of West Milton, Earla Donaldson and husband Tom of West Alexandria; one son, Jim Jordan and wife Sharon of Eaton; one brother, Alfred DeVilbiss of West Alexandria; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Tim Kelly, in 1984; and two brothers, Cletus "Bill" DeVilbiss and Kenneth DeVilbiss.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider and the Rev. J. Herman Bassler officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Alvera V. Fink
Alvera V. Fink, 78, of Brookville, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Englewood.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Alice Jane and Thomas Brown of New Madison; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Lee and Shirley Fink of New Madison; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Al and Wilma Bruns of Celina; a sister, Stella Wennning of Eaton; brothers-in-law, Gerald and wife Leota Fink, Elmer and wife Dorothy Fink, all of Celina; sisters-in-law, Ruth Fink of St. Mary's, Irene Fink of Lima, Lois and husband Bill Magoto of Versailles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cllarence; a son, Clarence Fink Jr.; granddaughter, Rebecca Brown; brothers, Clarence and Werner Bruns; sisters, Marcella Dorsten and Shirley Walton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Englewood, with Father Todd Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville. The family will receive freinds from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home, Brookville, and from 9 a.m. until a prayer service at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Billy E. Loy
Billy E. Loy, 74, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born May 9, 1923, in Lewisburg, he was the son of Ernest H. and Bessie (Bittle) Loy. He was a 1941 graduate of Lewisburg High School, and was co-owner and operator of Loy's Auto Body Shop in Lewisburg for 52 years.
Mr. Loy was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of the Greenville VFW, Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewisburg, Dayton Body Shop Owners Association and Automotive Service Association (ASA).
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Martha J. (Maxel) Loy; three sons, Steve Loy and Mike Loy, both of Eaton, and Jeffrey E. Loy of Lewisburg; one daughter, Carolyn Denlinger of Brookville; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Emerson Loy of Lewisburg; and one sister, Olivia Early of Pyrmont.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Leggett, in 1995.
Funeral services were Sunday, May 3, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Jon Thomas officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Emma G. Coleman
Emma Grace Coleman, 4, daughter of Jeffrey and Patricia Coleman of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, due to a vehicle accident.
Born Aug. 8, 1993, in Kettering, she attended the Northridge Church of the Nazarene kindergarten Sunday school and also attended Tiny Tots Nursery School in Lewisburg.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Justin; paternal grandmother, Mary K. Coleman, maternal grandparents, Everett and Anna Bean; paternal great-grandmother, Visa Coleman; aunts, Kathy (Don) Weiss, Sherry (Dennis) Jones; uncles, Alan Coleman and Mike (Cindy) Bean; cousins, Tommy, Robin, Gena, Todd, Burke, Nathan, Nolan, Matthew, Ethan, Jessie and Todd (Haskins).
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Bill Coleman, in 1986.
Funeral services were Monday, May 4, at the Northridge Church of the Nazarene, Dayton, with Pastor Gerald Morgan officiating. Geroge C. Martin Funeral Home, Northridge Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Lowell A. Hall
Lowell A. Hall, 77, of Eaton, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born Nov. 17, 1920, in Camden (Israel Township, Preble County), he was the son of Vernard and Ruth (Austin) Hall. He was a 1939 graduate of Dixon High School, was a retired farmer and had been a school bus driver at Eaton and Jackson schools.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Wanda (Shellenbarger) Hall; sons and daughter-in-law, Norman E. and Judy Hall, and Wesley A. Hall, all of Eaton; grandchildren, Beth (Ed) VanZant, Randy (Rhonda) Hall, Scott Hall, Matthew Hall, Zachary Hall and Amanda Hall; great-grandchildren, Jonathan VanZant, Devin Hall, Cody Hall and Alena Hall; a sister, Irene Hockett of Richmond, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, May 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Kenn Barton officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
