Bertha E. Bowman
Bertha E. Bowman, 91, formerly of West Manchester, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Gade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born April 20, 1906, in Darke County, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Garber) Coning, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a member of Price's Creek Old German Baptist Church.
Her husband, Orville R. Bowman, died Feb. 16, 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Vivian E. Boone of Union City, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Karl L. and Ruth Ellen Bowman of Eldorado; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Clara Coning of Eldorado; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Kimmel and Grace Coning; three brothers, Raymond Coning, William Coning and Russell Coning; and a son-in-law, James Boone.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 22, at Price's Creek Old German Baptist Church, Eldorado, followed by burial in the church cemetery. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.
Estella G. Rowe
Estella G. Rowe, 88, formerly of East Main Street, Eaton, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Governor Harris Homestead.
Born July 8, 1909, in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lena (Parks) Smith. She was a retired beautician, and a former member of the Pythian Sisters.
Her husband, Lester E. Rowe, died Jan. 6, 1987.
Survivors include a son, Charles Cohee of Dayton; a daughter, Anita Boyke of Streamwood, Ill.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Baker of Vandalia and Margaret Davis of Fairborn; nieces and nephews.
A brother, Robert Smith, is deceased.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, with the Rev. Suzanne Dillahunt officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home.
David Kirkpatrick
David Kirkpatrick, 36, of Camden, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, in Eaton.
He was born Oct. 11, 1961, in Dayton, and was a graduate of Preble Shawnee High School in Camden. On Feb. 21, 1981, he married Diane Cope at Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane, on Feb. 4; and his father, James Kirkpatrick.
Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Diane Kirkpatrick of Camden; his mother and stepfather, Evelyn (Morris) and Butch Kearby of Kettering; a brother, Jim (Vicki) Kirkpatrick of Carlisle; a sister, Judy (Charlie) Bush of Germantown; father- and mother-in-law, Mickey and Marilyn Cope of Richmond, Va.; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Brian) Karns of Eaton, Joyce Cope of Richmond, Va., and Kelly (Andrew) Thacker of New Lebanon; a brother-in-law, Mickey (Krista) Cope of Richmond, Va.; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, 249 N. Main St., Camden, with the Rev. Greg Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home.

Fannie J. Taylor
Fannie Jane Taylor, 97, formerly of Eaton, died Monday, March 23, 1998, at Extendacare in Richmond, Ind.
Born April 7, 1900, in Washington County, Va., she was the daughter of Solomon and Eliza Virginia "Jennie" (Simpson) Moore. She had lived in Preble County since 1917. She was a member of Evangel Assembly of God and Woman's Missionary Council.
Survivors include a daughter, Florence Mabel Crank of New Madison; a son, Lloyd Zebedee Taylor of Centerville, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grancdhildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William McKinley Taylor in 1988; a daughter, Edith Daner Taylor in 1923; a son, Gerald L. Taylor in 1962; a grandson, Larry Allen Taylor in 1996; brothers, Walker Franklin Moore in 1977, Joel Daniel Moore in 1949, J. Noton Moore in 1970, Dorton Livingston Moore in 1969, Berry Moore, Clarence Andrew Moore in 1951, and Sidney Moore; sisters, Myrtle Dealie Taylor in 1982 and Dicie D. Barker in 1978; an unnamed infant sibling; and a half brother, LaFayette Moore, born to Eliza Virginia and adopted by Solomon Moore.
Funeral services were Thursday, March 26, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Evelyn Tirey
Evelyn Tirey, 87, of Camden, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born March 19, 1911, in Travelers Rest, Ky., she was the daughter of John Wesley and Allie (Dalton) Hartsock.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Graden Tirey, whom she married Sept. 16, 1955, in Richmond, Ind.; three daughters, Colleen Hornsby of Tyler, Ky., Wanda Bradley and Lorraine Bailey, both of Camden; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Virgil Hartsock; and one sister, Emma Moore
Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
Steven L. Combs
Steven L. Combs, 36, of East Factory Road, West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 24, 1998, in Dayton.
Born Dec. 14, 1961, in Dayton, he was a 1980 graduate of Twin Valley South High School in West Alexandria. He had been employed as an electrician for Wagner Smith Co. in Dayton for the past nine years.
Survivors include his wife of one year, Cheryl Combs; his parents, Robert and Darlene (Degler) Combs of West Alexandria; a stepson, Kyle Wilson, at home; a stepdaughter, Courtney Wilson, at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Gray Bennett of Eaton; a brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Jennifer Combs of West Alexandria; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Cecelia Slough of Gratis; a sister-in-law, Rhonda Azbill of Mt. Vernon, Ky.; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 28, at the First Baptist Church in Farmersville, with the Rev. Tom Vorhis officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

Hiram Stacey
Hiram "Mote" Stacey, 81, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998.
He was born March 7, 1917, in Jackson County, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lizzie Vee (Baker) Stacey; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sue Stacey of Ludlow Falls, Paul and Vicki Stacey of Phillipsburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Don Daniel, Linda and Mike Sims, all of Lewisburg; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Ann Stacey of Clayton; sisters, Addie C. Buck and Willie B. Goolsby of Tennessee; grandsons, Ronnie, Davey, Doug and Fred; granddaughters, Kim, Tina, DeeDee, Angel, Cathy and Nicole; a special niece, Jannie and Harlis Combs; many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Campbell and Susie (Carter) Stacey; a son, Johnny Ray Stacey; brothers, Floyd, George and Houston Stacey; and sisters, Ethel Taylor, Ellie Smith and Betty "Baltie" Scott.
Funeral services were Friday, March 27, at Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood, with the Rev. George Pennington officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Ludlow Falls.
Jerold H. Rogers
Jerold H. "Jerry" Rogers of New Lebanon died unexpectedly Friday morning, March 27, 1998, two days before his 77th birthday.
Born March 29, 1921, in Lewisburg, he was the son of Chester A. and Lucile R. (Maeder) Rogers. He was a 1939 graduate of Verona High School, and served with the Marine Corps during World War II in the South and Central Pacific Theaters and fought at Guadalcanal and Iowa Jima.
Mr. Rogers worked as a building supervisor in the Dayton and Mississippi areas, building numerous restaurants, office buildings and homes. He attended Grace Brethren Church in Brookville.
Survivors include his wife, Jean (Rohrer) Rogers, whom he married Oct. 6, 1961; daughters and sons-in-law, Devonna and Ges Seger of Beavercreek, Beverly and Ted Denius of Lewisburg, Brenda and Michael Lamb of New Lebanon, Dianna and Dan Deeter of Brookville.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel and Lucius Seger, Richard and Summer Denius, Chanda White, Jeanna Osborn, Shawn and Jamie Cummins, Kari and Kelli Cummins, and Tiffany Deeter; great-grandchildren, Phillip, Chelsea, Mercedes and Trenton Cummins, Megan and Nathan Osborn-White, and Logan Imber; and an aunt, Stella Beneke of Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great-granddaughter, Sydney Osborn-White.
Funeral services were Monday, March 30, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Henry Mallon officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Charles E. Wysong
Charles E. Wysong, 77, of West Alexandria died unexpectedly Sunday, March 29, 1998, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born May 1, 1920, in West Alexandria, he was the son of Charles and Carrie (Myers) Wysong. He was a 1939 graduate of West Alexandria High School, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of James E. Ryan Post #322 American Legion.
Mr. Wysong retired from Rexarc Manufacturing, and was a volunteer fireman in the West Alexandria community for many years. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Rebecca Wysong; daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and Sam Thompson, Naomi and Dan Freshour, and Ruthann Heimbrock, all of West Alexandria; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Richard Wysong of Eaton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Jack Miller of Lady Lake, Fla., Julia and Jim Jones of Brookville.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Calvin K. Stonecash
Calvin Keith Stonecash, 68, of Eaton, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Hospice of Dayton. He had been ill for one month.
A native and lifelong resident of Eaton, he was born Nov. 22, 1929, the son of Pete and Martha (Cole) Stonecash. He was a 1947 graduate of Eaton High School, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He joined his father-in-law, Ralph Lowman, in work at Lowman Metal Shop in 1953. He became manager of the heating and air conditioning business in 1965 and owner in 1987, before retiring in 1995 after 42 years.
Mr. Stonecash was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren, where he served as deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher and on many boards and committees. He enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling, fishing and volunteer work.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean (Lowman) Stonecash, whom he married Oct. 8, 1950, in Eaton; a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Wendy (Frantz) Stonecash of Eldorado; two grandsons, Mark Austin Stonecash and Connor Tandy Stonecash, both of Eldorado; a foster son, Jason Flory of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Carol Stonecash of Louisville, Ky., Bob and Marsha Stonecash of Eaton; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Lawrence Updegraff of Richmond, Ind.; two aunts; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Mark Alan Stonecash, in 1982.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 12, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Martin L. Peacock officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, was in charge of arrangements.
