Carl R. Geeting
Carl R. Geeting, 78, of South Maple Street, Eaton, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton.
Born April 9, 1920, in Gasper Township (Preble County), he was the son of William C. "Neal" and Emma May (Shields) Geeting. A 1939 graduate of Eaton High School, he had lived in Preble County all his life. He retired in 1977 from Westvaco Corp. in Eaton after 23 years, was co-owner/operator of Geeting Home Furniture, and was a Gasper Township farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marjorie (Hall) Geeting; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Cheryl Geeting of Eaton; three grandchildren, Neil Geeting and Amy Crutcher, both of Eaton, and Scott DuVall of Mason; four great-grandchildren, Dalton and Cory Crutcher, Lauren and Taylor DuVall; and a sister, Betty Rose of Eaton.
Funeral services were Friday, May 22, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Hill officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Dorothy F. Timbrook
Dorothy Fay Timbrook, 80, formerly of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Sidney Care Center in Sidney.
Born July 24, 1917, in Brookville, she was the daughter of Amon R. and Ethel A. (Warwick) Good. She had worked for Paine Publishing.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan K. Timbrook of Dayton; a son, Michael Timbrook of Dayton; a grandson, Michael A. Timbrook Jr.; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Estella Saylor of Englewood; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Timbrook, in 1975; a brother, Edward Good; and four sisters, Gladys Denlinger, Alyce Blackburn, Esther LaPorte and Mary Katherine Good.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Melva I. Nieman
Melva I. (Rust) Nieman, 87, of South Main Street, West Alexandria, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born Dec. 17, 1910, she was the daughter of Amos and Zella (Hook) Eby. She was retired from Anchor Fabricators in Clayton after 30 years. Mrs. Nieman was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and a member of the Homemakers Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Rust in 1969; second husband, Fred Nieman in 1994; and a brother, Robert Eby in 1991.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Spitler and Jeanette Hill, both of West Alexandria; a sister-in-law, Elsie Eby of Columbus, Ind.; four nieces, Judy Salkind of Northridge, Calif., Pamela Lomax of Sutherlan, Ore., Diana Eby of Columbus, Ind., and Lucille Manring of Medway; and three nephews, Larry Spitler of West Alexandria, Mark Eby of Richland, Wash., and Richard Spitler of Lakeland, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Ron Dafler officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Russie E. Wizelle
Russie E. (Moses) Wizelle, 93, of Marty Lane, West Alexandria, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born April 30, 1905, in Gratis, she was the daughter of George A. and Mary Elizabeth (Darragh) Moses. Mrs. Wizelle was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Circle AE in West Alexandria, and a past member of the Lanier Homemakers and the Garden Club.
Her husband, Gabriel Wizelle, died in 1988.
Survivors include nieces, Iris Armstrong of West Alexandria, Lexie Pfiffner of Eaton, Marilyn Eichelkraut of Cincinnati and Sharon Smith of New Paris; nephews, Donald Moses and Ronald Moses, both of Eldorado; a sister-in-law, Ivory Moses of New Paris; 22 great-nieces and great-nephews and 19 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ray D. Moses, Pearl C. Moses and Cloyd A. Moses; two sisters, Ruby L. Moses and Ruth W. Morris; a nephew, Monte Moses; and a niece, Linda Lindsay.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 26, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or to the Preble County Heart Association.
Evelyn L. Sorrell
Evelyn L. Sorrell, 81, formerly of Preble County, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Columbia Medical Center West in El Paso, Texas.
Born Feb. 1, 1917, in Morning Sun, she was the daughter of the late William and Hattie (Frazier) Wolfe. She had lived in Preble County for 66 years before moving to Florida 15 years ago. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Crystal River, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, Jasper R. Sorrell, whom she married Jan. 26, 1946; a daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and George Cremeans of El Paso, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Forrest and Norma Jones of Bedford, Texas, Carl and Norma Sorrell of Richmond, Ind.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Carole Williams of Crystal River, Fla.; a brother, Tom Wolfe of Dunnellon, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clarice Wolfe and Georgia Perry; and a brother, William "Bill" Wolfe.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Raymond E. Rothwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery.
Harold G. Zimmerman
Harold G. Zimmerman, 86, of Eaton died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton.
Born Jan. 7, 1912, in Camden, he was the son of the late Tiffin and Fannie (Harris) Zimmerman, and had lived in Preble County all his life. He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation after 30 years. He was a former member of Grace Brethren Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Z. (Kerns) Zimmerman, whom he married Sept. 21, 1932; a sister-in-law, Helen Zimmerman of Eaton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Harry, Raymond, Vernon and Blonden Zimmerman; and a sister, May Campbell.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Harold P. Combs officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Ethel R. Loomis
Ethel Ruth (Blacketer) Loomis, 77, of Lewisburg, died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born March 27, 1921, in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late Jack Evans and Clara Belle (Noble) Blacketer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard "Cooney" Loomis in 1974; a brother, Jack E. Blacketer in 1995; and two sisters, Lillian Hatfield and Willie Ellen Frye.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Leonard Loomis of Lewisburg, David and Robin Hatfield of Oswego, N.Y.; a daughter, Sharon Griffitts of Dayton; grandchildren, Katie Smith, Kristen Barnes, "L.C." Loomis, Danielle Hatfield and Sarah Hatfield; a special nephew and niece, Bob Blacketer and Terri Wacaster; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Blacketer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. Joseph H. Bartczak, Jim Mills, Charles and Terri Wacaster officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

L. Robert Straw
L. Robert Straw, 75, of Eaton, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at his home after a nine-month illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Eaton, he was born Aug. 3, 1922, the son of the late Charles A. and Levina (McBride) Straw. He was retired from Inland Division of General Motors, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Straw was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie #2202, VFW Post #8066 and American Legion Post #215, all of Eaton.
His wife, Anna Marie (Burns) Straw, died May 14, 1984. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Straw and Fred Straw; and a sister, Cretus Hagen.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and John Melling of Eaton, Betsy and Robert Czupryna of Uxbridge, Mass.; a son, Charles Straw of Chula Vista, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Scott Melling, Kurt Melling, Jenna Stigleman, Sean Straw, Katie Czupryna, Robert Czupryna and Kara Czupryna; five great-grandchildren, Trisa, Casey, Kyle, Melissa and Joshua; two step-great-grandchildren, Ann Marie and Joshua; and two brothers, Harry Straw and Raymond Straw, both of Eaton.
Funeral services were Wednesday, May 20, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Glen E. Fisher officiating. Burial, with military graveside services, was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Betty Ballinger
Betty Ballinger, 59, of Camden, died Friday June 5, 1998.
Born Aug. 11, 1938, in Estel County, Ky., she was the daughter of Matthew and Buford (Tipton) Newton. She worked for Miami University for 16 years.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Ballinger, whom she married March 1, 1954, in Liberty, Ind.; a son, Terry (Erica) Ballinger of Camden; and four brothers, Tom (Elizabeth) Newton, Ralph (Betty Jo) Newton, of Cleves; Robert Newton of Brookville, Ind., Dale (Cheryl) Newton of Araiba, Ga.; and one sister, Bonnie Young of Camden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Tracy and Belvery Newton; and one sister, Zula Francis.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 9, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Riley Parker officiating. Burial was in Somerville Cemetery.

Chester R. Gilbert
Chester R. "Chet" Gilbert, 78, of Beltsville, Md., died Monday, May 25, 1998.
Born Feb. 21, 1920, in West Alexandria, he was the son of Arthur and Ruth (Hamilton) Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Flouton) Gilbert; four sisters, Dorothy Schutt, Ann Kiamy, Doris Pierce and Joyce Nisius; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Nelson Gilbert.
Funeral services were Thursday, May 28, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Burial was in Columbia Memorial Park, Columbia, Md.
