Chloe W. Smith
Chloe W. Smith, 92, of Dayton, a former resident of Eaton, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Heartland of Kettering.
She was born Oct. 17, 1905, in Perkins, W. Va. She was retired from Chrysler Airtemp after 18 years' service. She was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ and the Eaton Grange.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Evelyn and Murl Williams, Dorothy Foster, all of Chillicothe, and Annabelle Daring of Dayton; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Powell of Cincinnati, Elsie and James Geeting of Eaton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Mary Bayne, Lloyd Bayne, all of Dayton, Robert and Katie Bayne of Celina.
Also surviving are grandsons and spouses, David and Shirley Williams, James and Vickie Foster, and Jon Foster, all of Chillicothe, and Ronald Daring of Seattle, Wash.; granddaughters and spouses, Linda Sue and Steve Beeler, Kathy and Richard Liebe, all of Chillicothe, Anita and Rob Fogle of Delaware, Ohio.
Other survivors are 10 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Joe and wife Phyllis Smith of Fairfield, Lucille and husband Wayne Shelley of Brookville, and Christ Smith of Richmond, Ind.; four step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Amos Smith, in 1991; three sisters, Garnet Lewis, Myrtle Light and Isa Roth; one brother, George Bayne; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 11, at Westbrock Funeral Home, Kettering, followed by burial in Woodland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Ruthann Apple
Ruthann Apple, 69, of 303 Crescent Drive, Lewisburg, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at Harborside Healthcare in New Lebanon after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 5, 1928, in Dayton, she was the daughter of Paul J. and Susan V. (Kinsey) Fink. She had lived in Preble County since the early 1940s.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Corvin Apple; a son, Robert P. Apple of Lewisburg; a daughter, Lori Ann Stevens of Indiana; a brother, Ronald Fink of New Madison; and a sister, Sharon Mann of Eaton.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Fink.
Funeral services were Monday, June 15, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, followed by burial in Arlington Cemetery near Brookville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewisburg Emergency Unit.
Jean W. Poe
Jean W. Poe, 79, of Court House Square Apartments, Towson, Md., died Friday, June 12, 1998, after a sudden illness.
A native of Roanoke, Va., she was a 1936 graduate of Jefferson High School, a 1940 graduate of Farmvilla State Teachers College (now Longwood College) with a B.A. degree, a 1968 graduate of Miami University with an M.Ed., and did additional post-graduate work at Columbia University in New York.
She was a retired teacher of Spanish and English, and had taught at Shawnee High School in Camden and at Eaton High School.
She was a longtime elder in the Presbyterian Church, and became a member of Towson United Methodist Church after moving to Baltimore in the mid-1980s.
Mrs. Poe loved the theatre and the arts, and was a volunteer and participant in the activities of the Baltimore County Senior Box Office. Her life was dedicated to the love of learning and the education of children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elias Dodson Poe Jr.
Survivors include a sister, Ann Watts Strayer of Burleson, Texas; three sons, Elias Dodson "Ed" Poe III of Towson, Md., Richard Benton Poe of Salem, Ore., and Herbert Watts Poe of Lodi, Ohio; four grandchildren, Elias Dodson "Dod" Poe IV of Towson, Md., Michael William Poe, Sarah Elizabeth Poe and Emily Jean Poe, all of Lodi; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were Tuesday, June 16, in Baltimore, Md.
Virginia E. Ristaneo
Virginia E. Ristaneo, 83, of Middletown, died Sunday evening, June 14, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 5, 1914, at Lake City, Fla., she had lived most of her life in this area. Mrs. Ristaneo was a homemaker and a member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Ristaneo and Tom Ristaneo, both of Middletown, and Larry Ristaneo of West Alexandria; one daughter, Connie Ristaneo of Camden; eight grandchildren, Tom Jr., Michael, Gregory, Jill, Amy, Kim, Jamie and Lisa; one great-granddaughter, Tara; and one sister, Alice Moorside of Punta Gorda, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ristaneo, in 1992; parents, Thomas and Sarah (Florence) Fryman; four brothers, Roy, Oscar, Joe and Hilen Fryman; and five sisters, Laura, Hazel, Dora, Edna and Essie.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, with the Rev. Carvin C. Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Madison Township.

Willard B. Landers
Willard B. Landers, 83, of Nitro, W. Va., died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at his Walnut Street home in Lewisburg, where he had resided for the past three months.
Born May 24, 1915, in Heizer Creek, W. Va., he was the son of Charlie William and Wilma Mariah (Frame) Landers. He retired in 1978 after 20 years at West Virginia State College in Institute, W. Va., and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances (Harris) Landers, in 1996; a sister, Mabel Cobb; and a brother, Earl Landers.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta G. and Robert Gaye of Arcanum, Kathleen Faye and Robert Alley of Lewisburg; a sister, Emma Esta Stewart of Nitro, W. Va.; grandchildren, John and Kevin Saunders, Jill Heindl and Rachel Lewis; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tori and Hunter Saunders; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Gatens Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Poca, W. Va., with the Rev. Calvin Akers officiating. Burial will be in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft, W. Va. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

Kathleen M. Hopkins
Kathleen Marie Hopkins, 57, of Eustis, Fla., died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at Memorial Hospital-West Volusia in Deland, Fla. She was a former resident of New Lebanon.
Born July 21, 1940, in Farmersville, she moved to Deland, Fla., 25 years ago and was employed at Kmart in Deland.
Survivors include her husband, Roy D. Hopkins; two sons, Joseph E. Flaherty Jr. of Deland, Fla., and Ryan H. Flaherty of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, K. Marie Brunson of Deland, Fla., and Robin L. Flaherty of North Bend, Wash.; parents, Jacob "Jake" and Eleanora (Shingledecker) Brower Sr. of Deland, Fla.; a sister, Gayle A. Toth of Annandale, Va.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin L. Brower, in 1944, and John J. Brower Jr., in 1995.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. Phillip Marxson officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery near Brookville. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the funeral home.

Keith L. Personette
Keith L. Personette, 73, of Cambridge City, Ind., died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Jan. 11, 1925, in East Germantown, Ind., he was the son of Roy and Martha (Clark) Personette. He had lived in Eaton (Preble County), Richmond and Noblesville, Ind., before moving to Cambridge City in 1986.
Mr. Personette had worked at Crosley/Avco for 32 years, and retired from Schwitzer Corporation in Indianapolis. He was a member of the Cambridge City Town Board and the Cambridge City Christian Church where he served on the church board and as trustee. He was past president of Avco Management Club and past president of the Cambridge City Evening Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary (McGuire) Personette; two sons, Michael Personette of Chicago, Ill., and Rodney Personette of Camden; two daughters, Marilyn Murphy of Lexington, Ky., and Madelaine Personette of Connersville, Ind.; one sister, Martha Chamness of Cambridge City, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Showalter and Thelma Clifton; and a brother, Joseph Personette.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Cambridge City Christian Church, with Randall Massie officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City, Ind. Waskom-Howard-Fisher Capital Hill Chapel, Cambridge City, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.

Jacob M. Prescott
Jacob Michael Prescott, infant son of Kevin and Francis Nichole (Christian) Prescott of Morning Sun, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are grandparents, Michael and Kathy Prescott of Morning Sun, Kent and Mary Christian of Hamilton; great-grandparents, Edward Prescott of Hamilton, Dale and Dorothy Christian of Somerville, and Mary Richardson of Camden; one aunt, Kelly (Jason) Brandner of Fairfield; and one uncle, Josh Christian of Hamilton.
Graveside services were Thursday, May 14, at Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, Camden, was in charge of services.
Matthew S. Pence
Matthew S. Pence, 20, of Euphemia-Castine Road, Lewisburg, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton after a car accident on Ohio 503 in Preble County.
He was employed by Garwood Home Improvement in Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas J. Pence, in 1983.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Christal and Howard Kuhn of Lewisburg; paternal grandparents, Rayburn and Sandra Pence of Eaton; maternal grandparents, John S. Jr. and Georgianna Harris of Lewisburg; a brother, Jeffrey D. Pence of Lewisburg; a sister, Ashley M. Deeter of Lewisburg; stepsisters, Heidi Kuhn and Jessica Lindskog, both of Columbus; aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were Friday, May 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. James N. Lehman officiating. Burial was in Twin Creek Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Russell H. Wheeler
Russell Hamilton Wheeler, 86, of Otterbein Retirement Center, Lebanon, a longtime resident of Farmersville, died Monday, May 11, 1998, after a long illness.
He was a dairy farmer in Farmersville for many years and was retired from Borden's Dairy after 20 years of service. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Farmersville, and a member of Farmersville Lodge No. 482, F&AM.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Thelma; children, Arlene (Bob) Emrick, Sydney (Michael) Howard, Ron (Madonna Smiley) Weaver, all of Farmersville, Judy Buehner of Eaton and Pattie Lakes of West Carrollton; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence (Dorothy) Wheeler of Eaton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona; his parents, Albert and Rosa Wheeler; brothers, Herbert and Walter Wheeler; and a sister, Blanch Weist.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 16, at the Otterbein Home, Lebanon. Rogers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
