John J. Nice
John Joseph Nice, 56, a resident of Albuquerque N.M., for six years, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in an automobile accident in Cuba, N.M.
He was a 1959 graduate of Lanier High School.
Survivors include a son, Kevin E. (Malta) Nice of Columbus; a daughter, Jeney (Spencer) Wilkins of Columbus; mother of his children, Joan L. Nice of Columbus; a granddaughter, Brittany M. Nice of Columbus; sisters, Patricia (Frank) Varela of Albuquerque, N.M., and Bonnie N. Gibson of Florida; brothers, Paul F. Nice, Vern E. (Diane) Nice, all of Florida; Earl V. (Marilyn) Nice, Glen M. Nice and wife, all of St. Louis, Mo., and Dale E. (Janet) Nice of Florida; a sister, Pauline M. (Donald) Hartman of Grand Prairie, Texas; and an aunt, Helen Carl and family of Albuquerque, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan (Jamina) Nice in December 1983; and a brother, Karl M. Nice, in January 1997.
Following cremation, a memorial service took place Wednesday, May 20. French Mortuary, New Mexico, was in charge of arrangements.

Allene Byrd
Allene Byrd, age 65, of Somerville, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998.
Born May 26, 1933 in Menifee County, Ky. she was the daughter of Charlie and Esthel (Brooks) Means. On Dec. 26, 1950, she married Marlon Byrd in Menifee County, Ky. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17 of this year.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Gary Finkbine of Darrtown and Marlene Pennington of Middletown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Marlon Jr. and Tammy Byrd and Ricky Dean and Angie Byrd, all of Oxford, and Douglas Clay and Paula Byrd of Camden; fourteen grandchildren; five brothers, Charles Means of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Corvin Means of College Corner, Ind., Lee Means of Oxford, Walker Means of Lexington, Ky., Frank Means of Winchester, Ky.; one sister, Christine Johnson of Liberty, Ind.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Darrell Byrd.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at the R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home, Camden with the Rev. Burl Hogg officiating. Burial was in the Butler County Memorial Park.
Leslie E. Bullock Sr.
Leslie E. Bullock Sr., 75, of Lewisburg died Saturday, May 30, 1998, following an extended illness.
He was retired from the Standard Oil Co. where he worked as an office manager and in-house accountant. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Englewood.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty J. (Flowers) Bullock; daughter, Becky Smith of Vandalia; sons and daughter-in-law, Leslie E. (Pat Malone) Bullock Jr. of New Carlisle, Steve and Judi Bullock of Union; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Flannigan, Ruth and Bill Robbins and Jo Ann & Fred Deichman, all of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ceaton and Nancy Z. (Breeze) Bullock, and great-granddaughter, Abbygail Bullock.
Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Englewood.

Ernest H. Turner
Ernest H. Turner, 79, of Eaton, formerly of West Alexandria and Winchester, Ind., died Saturday, May 30, 1998.
Born June 1, 1918 in Fountain City, Ind., he was a son of the late Earl and Mary (Shaduck) Turner. He retired in 1974 from General Motors following 30 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Richmond, Ind.; an active member of the Arbor Day Foundation and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife Runa M. (Rutledge) Turner, whom he married Sept. 3, 1937; children, Victoria Rader of Eaton, Tena Ditmer of Celina, Emily Gingerich of Eaton, and Raymond Turner of Union City; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; sister Gatha Marie Johnson of Centerville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by son, Roger; daughter, Janet Slusser; sisters, Edith Million and Hazel Edward; and brother, Cecil Turner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor Dan McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens.

LaVerne W. Cotty
LaVerne William Cotty, 83, of 4108 Lisa Lane, Middletown, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Born Dec. 28, 1914, in Middletown, he was the son of William C. and Florence (Martin) Cotty. He was self-employed as an interior/exterior designer. Mr. Cotty was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW, and a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Karyl and Enrique Zuniga of Middletown; a brother and sister-in-law, Glenn M. and Wilma Lou Cotty of Slidell, La.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Harris) Cotty, in 1982.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 20, at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial, with military honors by American Legion Post 218 Color Guard, was in Butler County Memorial Park.

Theodore E. Gillette
Theodore Earl Gillette, 64, of West Alexandria, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at his home.
Born May 14, 1934, in Georgetown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Theodore Russell and Stella Mae (Kirk) Gillette. He was employed in engineering sales for Globe Industries and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; a son and daughter-in-law, Theodore Earl II and Karen Gillette of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Rachelle Sue Gillette and Yoshiko Miller, both of West Alexandria; a stepson and daughter-in-law, John Edward and Sharon Sorrell of Salt Spring Island, Canada; a granddaughter, Zoe Gillette; a step-granddaughter, Meadow Rose Sorrell; a brother, Dr. Carl Gillette of Niles, Ohio; and three sisters, Bonnie Milliken of Adrian, Mich., Carolyn Reichardt of Orange County, Calif., and Patricia Rulli of Cincinnati.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 20, at Cahall Funeral Home, Georgetown, Ohio, with the Rev. Dennis Rackliff officiating. There was no visitation. Burial was in the family cemetery in Martha, Ky.

Glenn D. Troutwine
Glenn D. Troutwine, 85, of McCool Road, Greenville, died early Monday evening, June 15, 1998, at Heartland of Greenville after an extended illness.
Born March 18, 1913, in Monroe Township (Darke County), he was the son of the late Ray and Eva (Weimer) Troutwine. He was a well-known retired Preble County farmer, having farmed from 1944 to 1975, and was also a retired employee of McCall's in Dayton.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Violet L. (Booker) Troutwine; a son and daughter-in-law, Glen Jr. and Lydia Troutwine of Lewisburg; eight daughters and sons-in-laws, Betty and Richard Robbins of Englewood, Genevieve and Gene Ditmer of West Milton, Susan and Barry Mobley of Eaton, Gloria and Don Rich of Arcanum, Madonna and Ronald Dearing of Greenville, Carol and Daniel Summers of Arcanum, Pam and Mike Chellis of West Manchester, Rebecca and George Brandon of Arcanum; 30 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Inez Brumbaugh of Brookville and Treva Burns of Covington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; three children, James R. Troutwine, David F. Troutwine and Edith Marie Streich; and two grandchildren, Richard D. Robbins and LaDena Bowling.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 18, at Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum, with the Rev. Tim Means officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Ruthmary B. Swank
Ruthmary Beane Fourman Swank, 76, of Pinellas Park, Fla., died Tuesday afternoon, June 16, 1998, at Largo Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a former resident of New Lebanon.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Randy Rayburn of Pinellas Park, Fla.; two sons, Donald N. Fourman of Farmersville and the Rev. Daryl G. Fourman of Crooksville, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Sharon Sirridge of Missouri; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Debbie Swank of Eaton, Robert and Pat Swank of Lewisburg; one grandson, Joshua Rayburn of Pinellas Park, Fla.; several step-grandchildren; three half sisters; a half brother; and a sister-in-law, Fern Fourman of the Dayton area.
She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Dr. Carle W. and Mabel (Pence) Beane; her birth mother, Nellie Cummings; her first husband, Carl Fourman, who died in June 1985; and her second husband, Carle Swank, who died in November 1995.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Largo, Fla., with the Rev. Christopher Schmidt officiating. Goebel Funeral Home, Crooksville, Ohio, was in charge of arrangements.

Alvina C. Holloway
Alvina C. Holloway, 66, of 408 S. Washington St., New Paris, died Friday morning, June 19, 1998, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after a sudden illness.
Born May 31, 1932, in Jasper, Tenn., she was the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Rector) Casteel. She had lived in New Paris since 1951, and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Joe D. Holloway Sr.; three daughters, JoAnn Johnson of Richmond, Ind., Peggy Williams of Northport, Ala., and Patricia Woodall of New Paris; one son, Joe D. Holloway Jr. of Richmond, Ind.; one sister, Susie Moree of Jasper, Tenn.; four brothers, Tex Casteel and Sam Casteel, both of Jasper, Tenn., Orville Casteel of Eaton and Johnny Casteel of New Paris; and three grandchildren, Heather and Holly Woodall and Kara Holloway.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Nannie Freeman, in 1990; and a brother, Tommy Casteel, in 1994.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Don Boyer officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
Carolyn S. Hawk
Carolyn S. Hawk, 44, of McGuire Drive, Camden, died Friday afternoon, June 19, 1998, at Hospice of Dayton after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 3, 1954, in Oneida (Scott County), Tenn., she had lived in Preble County since 1981.
Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Gerald D. Hawk; her mother, Esther E. (Burress) Jeffers of Eaton; a brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Jennie Jeffers of Eaton; and a nephew, Cody D. Jeffers.
She was preceded in death by her father, Loy C. Jeffers, in 1985.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Trissel Cemetery near New Lebanon.

Reva Warren
Reva Warren, 73, of West Alexandria, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Feb. 25, 1925, in Hazard, Ky., she was the daughter of Bill and Sarah (Couch) Couch.
Survivors include three sons, Bill, Don and Clifford Sowers; two daughters, Deb Sowers and Cathy Warren; a sister, Kathleen Miller of West Alexandria; two brothers, Colman and Hargis Couch of Busy, Ky.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bluford B. Warren, in 1982; four sisters, Victorie Baker, Imagene Caldwell, America Gose Lamm and Lois Jean Caldwell; and a brother, Waldon Couch.
Funeral services were Sunday evening, June 21, at the family residence, followed by burial on Monday, June 22, in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
