Walter R. Pickett
Walter Ray Pickett, 90, of New Paris-Hillsboro Road, New Paris, died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Oakridge Nursing Home in Richmond, Ind.
Born Sept. 16, 1907 in Howard County, Ind., he was the son of John Henry and Harriet Sena (Passwater) Pickett. He was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite (Baker) Pickett in 1986; and a brother, Charles Norval Pickett in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Robert E. Pickett; a daughter, Connie I. Ford, both of New Paris; a brother, R. Wayne Pickett of Ypsilanti, Mich., 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at 2 p.m., at the Barnes Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St., New Paris, with the Rev. Don Boyer, officiating. Burial will be in Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, noon- 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Emergency Squad or American Lung Association.
Robert W. Smith
Robert W. Smith, 59, of Deer Run, Camden, died unexpectedly, Monday, June 8, 1998.
Born July 10, 1938 in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of the late James and Ruth (Porter) Smith. He was retired. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959 and was a member of the James E., Ryan Post #322 of the American Legion in West Alexandria.
Survivors include his wife, Helen F. (Schilling) whom he married in October 1959; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Chris Miley of Eaton and Linda and Bill Hurst of Englewood; son Robert Smith and his fiancee Sandy Miller of West Alexandria; grandchildren James Othersen Jr., Shawn Miley, Brandie Othersen, Shannon Miley, Ashley Hurst, William Hurst Jr.; sisters, Carol Wright of Eaton, Phyllis Gray of Logansport, Ind., June Sullivan of Columbus and Jackie Lane of Escadillo, Calif; brother Don Smith of Rockport, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at the Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel-3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria with Father Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens.
Mida L. Wilson
A memorial service for Mida L. Wilson will be held Sunday, June 14, 1998, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Camden. The Mass will be at 2 p.m. followed by graveside services at Fairview Cemetery in West Alexandria at approximately 3 p.m. There will be an open house at 148 Frederick Drive, Eaton, where the family will greet and visit with people who would like to come and show their respect
Survivors include her husband, Clarence; son Richard; and a daughter Peggy.
Mrs. Wilson was a 52-year resident of Preble County before moving to Avon Park, Fla. She worked as cook at Lanier School for 17 years where her husband, Clarence, was a school-bus driver. They both were 4-H advisors for many years in the county.
Jeanette A. Kem
Jeanette A. Kem, 92, of Englewood, died following a lengthy illness on Saturday, May 30, 1998 at the Grace Brethren Village in Englewood.
Born May 10, 1906 in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Bessie V. (Troupe) Marsh. She was a longtime member of the Concord United Methodist Church of Englewood.
She was preceded in death by husbands Roy A. Alexander in 1949 and Carl C. Kem in 1987; and brother, John E. Marsh.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Dale Sherman of Farmersville; granddaughter Annette Eakes and great-granddaughter Adrian Eakes, both of Farmersville; sisters, Verona Roberts and Betty Raab, both of Dayton.
A memorial service for Mrs. Kem will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, June 15, at the Concord United Methodist Church, 1123 S. Main St., Englewood, with Pastors George and Nan Hubbell officiating.
Burial is in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.

Patti L. Overholts Cox
Patti L. Overholts Cox, 48, of Dayton died unexpectedly Monday, June 15, 1998, at her home.
She was born June 10, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Overholts.
Survivors include her mother, Marjorie Overholts of Dayton; her husband, Jerry Cox; three brothers, Dennis of Columbus, Eddie of Paducah, Ky., and Tim of Florida; one sister, Barbara Gates of Oregon; two nieces and four nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at Tobias Funeral Home, Dayton, followed by burial in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Rebecca L. Dyer
Rebecca Lynn Dyer, 13, of Belle Center, Ohio, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Children's Hospital in Columbus.
Born Dec. 14, 1984, in Kenton, Ohio, she was to enter the eighth grade at Benjamin Logan Middle School in Kenton. She attended the First United Methodist Church, Kenton, and was a member of the Ben Logan Middle School newspaper staff, school band, Straight A Club and Bio-Diversity Club. She was also a member of the Silver Creek Sliders and Taylor Creek Lads and Lassies 4-H Club.
Survivors include her parents, Douglas and Jennifer (Robertson) Dyer; one brother, Andrew, at home; one sister, Sarah, at home; maternal grandmother, Deanna Robertson of Eaton; maternal great-grandmother, Rachel Robertson of Camden; paternal grandparents, Russell and Mary Alice Dyer of Belle Center, Ohio.
Her maternal grandfather, Reginald Robertson, died in 1977.
Funeral services were Friday, June 26, followed by burial in Norman Cemetery, Belle Center.
Judith A. Newsome
Judith Ann "Judy" Newsome, 60, of Scheyhing Road, Lewisburg, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at her home after a sudden illness.
Born July 18, 1937, in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late Robert Alexander and Thelma Elizabeth (Swanson) Fowler.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Sanford J. Newsome; four daughters, Cherie Alison Newsome of Brookville, Bethann Newsome, Lori Aileen Newsome and Ruth Abigail Newsome, all of Lewisburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce A. and June Newsome of Brookville, Marc A. and Crystal Newsome of Florence, Ky.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Matthew W., Karen V., Julie M., Andy N. Holly E. and Laura C. Newsome; a brother and sister-in-law, Claude Raymond and Betty Fowler of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; nephews, Shawn P. Fowler and Kenny Fowler of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services were Friday, June 26, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Jeffrey Adler officiating. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society-Preble County Unit or to the Lewisburg Emergency Unit.
Dan L. Weadick
Dan L. Weadick, 94, of Ohio 732, Eaton, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Vancrest Care Center in Eaton after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 2, 1903, in Camden, he was the son of Lawrence and Mary G. (Hines) Weadick. He was a retired Preble County farmer, a member of Visitation Catholic Church of Eaton, Preble County Farm Bureau Discussion Group #14 and Preble County ASC.
Mr. Weadick was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine L. Weadick, in May 1994; three sisters, Genevieve Petry in 1994, Regina Teach in 1998 and Anna Weadick in 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Dan A. Weadick of Eaton and Robert J. Weadick of Cincinnati; two daughters, Patricia Sanders of Eaton and Dorothy O'Malley of Lake Placid, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Mass was Saturday, June 27, at Visitation Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ralph Lawrence officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Visitation, Eaton.
J. Dale Eby
J. Dale Eby, 76, of Germantown Road, West Alexandria, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born April 16, 1922, in West Alexandria, he was the son of Joseph and Ruth (Swinger) Eby. He was a graduate of Lanier High School. Mr. Eby was a farmer all his life and retired in 1984 from Whittaker Corp. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and King Hiram F&AM #88.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Doris Eby; a son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Candy Eby of Dayton; and a daughter, Connie Eby of Indianapolis, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Kent Eby, in 1952.
Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Lena M. English
Lena Mae Cole English, 54, of 713 S. 11th St., Richmond, Ind., died Thursday night, June 25, 1998, at Reid Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Richmond, she was born April 19, 1944, the daughter of William T. and Pauline (Peters) Cole.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony Kurt English; one grandson, Brian Jones; three brothers, Robert Cole of New Paris, Henry Cole of Winchester, Ind., and William Cole Jr. of Franklin; five sisters, Norma Steele of Morning Sun, Mary Miller and Carolyn Bertsch, both of Fort Myers, Fla., Sharon Rader of Richmond, Ind., and Beverly Moreland of Lynn, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Cole and Hubert Cole; and two sisters, Dorothy Stevenson and Darlene Cole.
Funeral services were Monday, June 29, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Chapel, Richmond, Ind., with the Rev. Kenneth Riden officiating. Burial was in Goshen Cemetery.
Betty J. Hunsucker
Betty J. Hunsucker, 70, of Eaton, died Friday, June 26, 1998, after a three-year illness.
Born April 12, 1928, in Eaton, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Myrtle (Maddix) Sarver, and had lived in Preble County all her life. She had been a senior aide at the Preble County Counsel on Aging, SCOPE and Preble County Counseling Center.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jackie Hunsucker of Eaton; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Don Strebig of West Alexandria; four grandchildren, Travis Strebig, Jeremy and Michele Hunsucker, Jessica Hunsucker and Jerad Hunsucker; one great-grandson, Kyle Hunsucker; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Sarver, Peck Sarver and Sam Sarver.
Funeral services were Monday, June 29, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with Pastor Marion Noll officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
