David L. Frazier
David L. Frazier, 67, of Oxford, died Thursday, Aug. 27, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital.
Born in Eaton, he attended high school in Richmond, Ind., and earned a bachelor's degree from Earlham College. A professor emeritus of English at Miami University, he received a master's degree from Indiana University and a doctorate degree from the University of New Mexico.
Mr. Frazier was an instructor at Miami University from 1955-57, was an instructor at Earlham College from 1957-59 and a teaching assistant and graduate fellow at the University of New Mexico from 1959-61. He joined the English faculty at Miami University in 1962 and retired in 1994.
He was co-editor of "The War of the Critics Over William Dean Howells" and editor of two numbers of Volume 8 of "The Old Northwest." He was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Susan M. Frazier; two sons, Kent Frazier of Amelia and Bruce Frazier of Sidney, Ill.; two daughters, Connie Malone of Oxford and Denise Babyak of Irvine, Calif.; his mother, Gertrude "Trudy" (Pitsinger) Frazier of Richmond, Ind.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Fulle of Richmond, Ind.
Funeral services were held at Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the cancer support group at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, Oxford, or to the college and youth program at Oxford United Methodist Church.
Burnice L. Emrick
Burnice L. Emrick, 103, of Northedge Apartments, Eaton, died Sunday, Sept. 13, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Miamisburg after a brief hospitalization.
Born Feb. 23, 1895, at the family homestead in the West Elkton area, he was the son of the late Charles and Eva (Brown) Emrick. He was a farmer most of his life, and retired from Moraine Paper Co. in West Carrollton in 1960 after 10 years of service. Mr. Emrick was a member of the Quaker Friends Church in West Elkton and a lifetime member of The Brotherhood of Knights of Pythias.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella M. (Harkloo) Emrick, in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Fern Price of Miamisburg; three granddaughters, Lee Ann Price-Fortino of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Debra Price of Miamisburg and Cherri Martin of Beavercreek; two great-grandchildren, Gina Lyndsey Fortino and Michael Lee Fortino of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were Saturday, Sept. 19, at Fairmound Cemetery, West Elkton, with the Rev. Scofield officiating. Viewing was private. R.C. Nein & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
Barbara J. Moore
Barbara Jean Moore, 70, of New Paris, died Monday, Sept. 14, at her home.
Born March 24, 1928, in Winchester, Ind., she was the daughter of Gobel and Bessie (Greene) Tucker.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Ladonna Tucker, Allan and Mary Kay Moore, all of New Paris, Lewis and Barbara Moore of Waukesha, Wis.; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Cooper of New Paris, Darla and Steven Henderson of Centerville, Ind., Cheryl and William Hooks of Caryville, Tenn., Joyce and John Sheard of Eaton, Shelby and Tommy Vinsant of Jacksboro, Tenn., Rozan and Junior Tucker of Smyrna, Tenn., and Janet Graham of Indianapolis, Ind.
Also surviving are 28 grandchildren; 42-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Mowery of Celina; and brothers, Jack Tucker of Lynn, Ind., Gene Tucker of Vero Beach, Fla., William and Gary Tucker, both of Union City, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Eldon Moore, in June; a son, Ernest E. Moore Jr., in 1950; a daughter, Marilyn Lou Moore, in 1950; a granddaughter, Connie Faye Tucker, in 1953; brothers, Richard and John Paul Tucker; and sisters, Beverly Yoder and Kathleen Cales.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 18, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Morrison officiating. Burial was in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Emergency Squad in New Paris.
Anna E. Graham
Anna E. Graham, 88, of Camden, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, at her home.
Born April 15, 1910, in Hamilton, she was the daughter of Milton E. and Dolly (Berry) Ross. She was a 1928 graduate of Camden High School, and had been employed as the Camden Village clerk and treasurer until her retirement. She was a member of Camden United Methodist Church.
On June 17, 1933, she married Robert Graham in Covington, Ky., and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Charles R. Graham (Betty Johnson) of Washington Court House and Richard A. (Carolyn J.) Graham of Eaton; two brothers, William C. Ross of Camden and Everett Ross of College Corner, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Lindsey of Dayton; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 19, at R.C. Nein & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.
Esther Waters
Esther Waters, 92, formerly of North Main Street, Laura, died Thursday, Sept. 17, at Vancrest Nursing Home in Eaton.
Born July 1, 1906, she was the daughter of Burley and Alice Gertrude (Pegg) Arnett. She was a member of Bath Presbyterian Church in Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Chick" Waters, in 1988.
Survivors include a son, James C. Waters of Laura; a daughter, Patricia Ann Carter of Cookeville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Tom Arnett of New Madison; sisters, Sarah Clemmens of Winchester, Ind., Margaret "Peg" Schneider and Jane Mills, both of South Bend, Ind., Annabelle Vaniman of Eaton and Josephine Young of Danville, Ill.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 21, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Kurtz officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Mabel Stutz
Mabel (Baker) Stutz, 82, of Eaton, died Thursday, Sept. 17, at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio.
She was a member of Verona United Methodist Church, Brookville Eastern Star #526 and Dayton White Shrine #13.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, R. Deo Baker.
Survivors include her husband, Walter W. "Bill" Stutz; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorthy and Edwin Lentz of Greenville, Nancy and Richard Kiracofe of Camden, Ann Sample and Gerald Vuchetich of Apple Valley, Minn.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Pauline and Bernard Brown of West Carrollton; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 21, at Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home, Brookville, with the Rev. Gordon Jones officiating. Burial was in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.

Chassity A. Hall
Chassity A. Hall, 20, of Lewisburg, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Sept. 17, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 20, 1978, in Dayton, she was the daughter of James R. Hall and Deborah L. Maynard. She was a 1997 graduate of Tri-County North High School and Miami Valley Career Technology Center. She loved sports of every kind.
Survivors include her mother, Deborah L. Maynard of Lewisburg; her father, James R. Hall of Nicholasville, Ky.; a sister, Jennifer Hall, at home; a brother, Jonathan Collins, at home; maternal grandparent, Marion Maynard of Lewisburg; paternal grandparent, Rollie Hall of Panama City, Fla.; and a niece, Nikki Braughton.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Blanche Maynard; and her paternal grandmother, Madaleen Hall.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 21, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Ella R. Mitchell
Ella Russell Mitchell, 95, of Prospect Community, Loudon, Tenn., died Thursday evening, Sept. 17, at Oak Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Richmond, Ind.
She was a retired employee of Charles H. Bacon Co., and was a member of Prospect Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, George B. Scott and Joe Mitchell; and her parents, Calvin and Hannah (Sutton) Russell.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Williams of Cincinnati; sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Annie Scott, with whom she had made her home for several years, of New Paris, Allen and Imogene Scott of Loudon, Tenn., Russell and Zula Scott of Richmond, Ind.; and several grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 20, at Loudon Funeral Home Chapel, Loudon, Tenn., with the Rev. Bernard Courtney officiating. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel was in charge of local arrangements.
Aaron T. Markwell
Aaron T. Markwell, 64, formerly of West Alexandria, died Saturday, Sept. 19, at Hospice of Dayton after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 3, 1934, in Kings Creek, Ky., he was the son of William R. and Stella E. (Royce) Markwell. He was a contractor, and had worked for Charles Huber Homes.
Survivors include a son, Aaron T. Markwell Jr. of Englewood; daughters, Sue E. Justice of West Alexandria, Pamela K. Jajuga of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary R. Kammer of Clayton and Elizabeth M. Gerriety of Miamisburg; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Irene Shell of Dayton and Daisy Mae Cook of West Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ervin L. Markwell in 1946, Joe Markwell in 1970 and Cecil Markwell in 1994.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Daryl Flynn officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grover Cemetery near West Alexandria.

Thomas E. Ziegler
Thomas E. Ziegler, 76, of South Main Street, Lewisburg, died Saturday evening, Sept. 19, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born March 9, 1922, in Lewisburg, he was the son of Edwin J. and Gladys I. (Turney) Ziegler. He was a 1940 graduate of Lewisburg High School, and retired in 1987 after 30 years with the United Postal Service in Dayton.
Mr. Ziegler was a member of the Letter Carriers Union; Libanus Lodge #80, F&AM of Lewisburg; and a 50-year member of Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma S. (Snyder) Ziegler, in 1952, and his second wife, Una V. (Ellis) Ziegler, in 1988; and a sister, Rosemary Waltman, in 1980.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey "Jeff" Ziegler of Lewisburg, Michael and Jean Ziegler of Muncie, Ind.; and a granddaughter, Victoria R. Connley.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. David O. Justis officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Masonic services were conducted Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
