Helen "Audrey" Clark
Helen "Audrey" Clark, 80, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Monday evening, Apr. 1, 2002 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born Apr. 17, 1921 in Rarden, OH, the daughter of Charles and Naomi Houser Gleadle. Soon after her birth, her family relocated to Hillsboro, where she was raised. On Sept. 28, 1949 she married Joseph G. Clark who preceded her in death in 1992.
Surviving is a daughter, Shelia Harris and her companion, Keith Baxter, Chillicothe, sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Irene Honline, Sr., Londonderry and Charles and Karen Clark, Chillicothe, grandchildren, Marlana and husband, Michael Long, Robert Jr., and wife, Kelly Honline, Brian Honline, Tammy Honline and companion, Paul Bailey and Joseph E. Clark, great grandchildren, Austin and Evan Long, Hannah and Hunter Honline and Jac, Ben and Katie Honline, a sister, Viola Truitt, Achworth, GA, brothers, Raymond and Waldo Gleadle, Hillsboro, a sister-in-law, Betty Clark, Chillicothe, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pat and Rhonda Clark, Chillicothe, several nieces and nephews and special friends, Doris Shanks, Barb Snyder, Ann Kight and Doris Ford. Her parents preceded her in death.
Mrs. Clark was a member of the Huntington Twp. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, the Huntington Mother's Club and the Huntington PTA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Garman officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home form 5 to 8 pm on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
John T. "Johnny" White
John T. "Johnny" White, 78, of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Monday morning, May 13, 2002 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born Sept. 7, 1923 in Frankfort, KY, the son of John and Bessie M. Johnson White. On July 1, 1942 he married Florence E. Penrod, who survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Deborah M. Garner, a son and daughter-in-law, John "Dave" and Jennifer White, all of Chillicothe, grandchildren, Kimberly Sue and husband, Alan Smith and James Paul Garner, and great grandchildren, Corbin and Conner Smith. His parents preceded him in death.
He founded Johnny's Restaurant in May 1956 and was active in its operation until his retirement in 1980. A veteran of WW II, he served in the Army Air Forces. He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1940, serving as a Trustee, Deacon, Financial Secretary, Sunday school teacher and as the church representative to the Board of Adena Regional Medical Center for 9 years. "Johnny" will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend and a dedicated businessman. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying the sport in his leisure time.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Revs. Steven Schmidt and William Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery with military honors by the Ross County Veterans Firing Squad. The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, with a memorial service by the Chillicothe Evening Lions Club at 7:45 pm, and at the church one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
John Edward Wallingford
John Edward Wallingford, 70, of Chillicothe passed from this life Monday afternoon, May 13, 2002 in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born May 30, 1931 in Springfield, OH, the son of Clyde E. and Olga B. Overholser Wallingford.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs. C. Lee (Joyce) Hickerson, Rocky River, OH, a niece, Ann and her husband, Scott Barnhouse, a nephew, John and his wife, Linda Hickerson, great nieces, Kate and Lynn, his faithful and trusted friends, Darrell and Clarice Malone, Chillicothe and a friend of many years, Paul Hartsough, McArthur. His parents and a son, Kent Wallingford preceded him in death.
Mr. Wallingford attended Ohio State University and Rutgers University. A US Army veteran, he had served in the Korean Conflict. The co-founder of Maryhaven, Inc. in Columbus, he was its first Executive Director. After moving to Chillicothe, he was the head of the Ross County Probation Department and later served as administrator of the Ross County Justice System. He attended Hilltop Mission Church. John will be missed by the staff of Chillicothe Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Friday.
BERTHA M. SEYMOUR
Bertha May Seymour, 83, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2002 in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 5, 1918 in Chillicothe, the daughter of William Franklin and Amanda Jane Seymour Wheeler. In 1937 she married Louie H. Seymour who preceded her in death in 1977.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Charles Abernathy and Karen and Carl Baxter, a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Bev Seymour and a son, Mark W. Seymour, all of Chillicothe, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and a sister, Viola Davis, Chillicothe. Her parents, and 2 grandchildren preceded her in death.
Mrs. Seymour was a devoted homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday in the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Christian Union with Rev. Mark Clendaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mildred Betz Bumgardner
Mildred Betz Bumgardner, 96, formerly of Chillicothe, passed from this life Sunday afternoon, May 19, 2002 in Leonardtown, MD following an extended illness. She was born May 27, 1905 in Gallia County, the daughter of Timothy and Ethel Gooch Betz. On Apr. 4, 1931 she married Gory R. Bumgardner who preceded her in death in 1961.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. James (Marlene B.) Thomas, Mechanicsville, MD, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her parents, a sister and two brothers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bumgardner was a teacher for the Chillicothe School System for 16 years, retiring in 1973. Prior to coming to Chillicothe, she had taught in Gallia County and Mason County, WV. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, a charter member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Pt. Pleasant, WV and was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Chapter 75, Pt. Pleasant, WV.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Pastor Randy O'Donnell officiating. A committal service will be at 3:00 pm in Kirkland Memorial Gardens, Mason County, WV. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 pm on Friday. A memorial services will be held at the Patuxent Presbyterian Church in California, MD at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church or the St. Peters Lutheran Church, Pt. Pleasant, WV.
Ruth A. Stauderman
Ruth A. Stauderman, 93, of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Sunday morning, Feb. 1, 2004 in Valley View Care Center, Frankfort. She was born Sept. 10, 1910 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Pearl and Blanche Davis Thatcher. On Oct. 6, 1949 she married William Stauderman who preceded her in death June 18, 1975.
She is survived by nieces, Pam and her husband, Gary Turley, Denise and her husband, Monte Queen and Pat Bell, all of Chillicothe and several great nieces and great nephews. Her parents, sisters, Marion Beath and Bernice Deputy, brothers Harold and Bobby Thatcher, 2 nephews and a sister-in-law preceded her in death.
Mrs. Stauderman was the former manager of the Ideal Dress Shop.
Following cremation, private committal services will be held at the discretion of the family. Calling hours will not be observed. The Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home is serving the family.
Maude E. Johnson
Maude E. Johnson, 80, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Saturday morning, Jan. 31, 2004 in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born May 29, 1923 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Charles and Louise Kelly Cunningham. On May 2, 1942 she married Harry Johnson, who preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1978.
Surviving are daughters, Jane Johnson, Linda Foxworthy and Patsy Berry, all of Indianapolis, IN, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sisters, Irene Kutchbach, Evelyn Fleshman, Jane Tuttle and Nancy Acord, brothers, James Cunningham, Clifton Cunningham and Charles “Tink” Cunningham.
Mrs. Johnson was a retired employee of B.H.T. Products.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Rev. David Titler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday.
James H. Moseley
James H. Moseley, 75 of Chillicothe, formerly of Greenfield, died 11:17 am, Sunday, February 1, 2004 in the Westmoreland Place Nursing Home following an extended illness.
He was born May 25, 1928 in Ostrander, OH, the son of the late Ralph and the late Elsie Mackan Moseley. In May of 1946 he married the late Bertie Davidson who died October 1978. In May of 1980 he married the late Jane Neele who died April 2002.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Terry Bethel, Bloomington, IN and Kay and Dave Dearth, Chillicothe; one son David Moseley, New Lexington, OH; 5 grandchildren Wendy Bethel, Matt (Amy) Bethel, Laura Bethel, Shauna Bethel, and Erin Bethel; two great grandchildren Kylie Bethel and Evan Bethel; and one niece and several nephews. One infant sister and one brother, William Moseley, preceded him in death.
Mr. Moseley retired from the banking industry in 1999, working as a banker at First National Bank in Chillicothe and President of the Merchants National Bank in Greenfield. He was a member of Greenfield Presbyterian Church, former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Past Master and fifty-year member of Ostrander Lodge #594 F.& A.M, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Valley of Columbus, Scottish Rite, the radio controlled airplane club, the Aladdin Shrine Temple, Greenfield Rotary, Antique Car Club of Southern Ohio, Greenfield Community Theater, founder of the Greenfield Community Orchestra, as a talented artist and photographer, he was the organist at the Trinity United Methodist Church, and very active in all the music ministries a Greenfield Presbyterian Church. An avid golfer, he was a member of Buckeye Hills and Snow Hill Country Clubs.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in the Fawcett Oliver Glass & Palmer Funeral Home with Reverend Tad Grover officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM in Fairview Cemetery, Ostrander, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
Richard Earl Tuttle
Richard Earl Tuttle, 75, of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Columbus and Chillicothe, OH, passed from this life Monday morning, Oct. 4, 2004 in the Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, VA following a brief illness. He was born June 27, 1929 in Columbus, OH, the son of Earl Harold and Helen Odelia Haughn Tuttle.
Surviving is a sister and brother-in-law, Freda and Floyd Williams, Buckeye Lake, OH, a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Margaret Tuttle, Galloway, OH, 2 nieces, a nephew and a host of friends in several states. His parents and a special friend, McClellan Scott Hansford preceded him in death.
Mr. Tuttle was a U.S. Army veteran. He was involved in sales and management of several candy manufacturing companies until his retirement in 1989 and had been a resident of Virginia Beach, VA since 1995.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until the hour of service.
Evelyn Abbie Friedley Palmer
Evelyn Abbie Friedley Palmer of Chillicothe, Ohio died peacefully on May 6, 2005 with her daughter and a close friend by her side at her home in Traditions of Chillicothe.
Mrs. Palmer was born on January 19, 1919 to Dwight and Helen Friedley in Janesville, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and attended Iowa State University, majoring in Home Economics. During her freshman year in college she met her husband-to-be, Wilson Palmer, and in 1940 they were married. After graduation they moved to Chicago, Illinois where their first two sons were born. They relocated to Chillicothe in 1947 where another son and two daughters were added to the family.
Mrs. Palmer was a devoted mother, Cub Scout den mother, and 58-year active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a tireless volunteer and a Women‘s Circle member. Her love and compassion for children was a strong force in her life. She was a quiet but passionate activist in child welfare concerns. For fun she belonged to the Buckeye Twisters Square Dance Club and especially enjoyed her sewing club and many family friends. When her own children were older, she began working in the Chillicothe school system as a teacher aide. She worked for many years as a Kindergarten assistant at Central School, as an assistant at Western School and finally as a library assistant at Smith Junior High. She retired in 1977.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilson “Bill” Palmer and her parents, Dwight Friedley and Helen “Abbie” Wood Friedley. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Kent and Marna Palmer of Fulton, Missouri; Dean and Helen Palmer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lane and Nancy Palmer of Des Moines, Iowa; Anne and Michael Newman of Anchorage, Alaska; and Jill and Chuck Clutter of Westerville, Ohio. She cherished her many grandchildren: Dain Palmer, Shera Palmer, Allison Palmer, Rebecca Palmer, Emily McDermott, Avery Palmer, Andrew Palmer, Christa Palmer, Patrick Newman, Jonathon Newman, Leigh Newman, and Jay Clutter.
