George Ammer, age 85, of Circleville, died Friday, August 30, 2002, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
John C. Barker
John C. Barker, 49, of Tackett Lane, Piketon, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning in Sterling, Ill.
He was born on February 3, 1953, in Baltimore, Md., and is the son of Sophia Gallup Barker, of Piketon and the late Ishmael H. Barker.
Surviving are a son, John R. Barker, Lucasville; his former wife, Betty Barker; three brothers, Ronald (Donna) Barker, of Chillicothe, Donald (Linda) Barker and Tom (Kay) Barker, both of Waverly; three sisters, Sunny Hutton and Nancy (Tom) Trent, both of Piketon, Nina Murray, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas F. and Nancy A. Barker, Stanley and Catherine Gallup; and a sister, Rosalyn Barker.
Mr. Barker was a carpenter, a member of the Carpenter's Union Local No. 437, a member of the V.F.W. 2832 and served in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly, with Dean Manning, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Bailey Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Sylvan Campbell Jr.
Sylvan Campbell Jr., age 54, of Groveport, passed away Friday, August 23, 2002, at Grant Medical Center, following a motorcycle accident.
Sylvan worked for the Ohio Wildlife Center for the last year and half and served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1969-1970. He was the circulation manager for Suburban News Publications for 16 years. He was a loving husband, brother and uncle.
Sylvan was preceded in death by parents, Sylvan and Zella (Rigsby) Campbell Sr. He is survived by wife, Virginia Morrison-Campbell; brothers, Jesse (Annie) Campbell of N.M., Larry (Diana) Campbell of Apple Creek, Charles (Shirley) Campbell of Wooster; sisters, Goldie Menear of Kingston, Edna (Garry) Whiting and Emma (Nate) Hamlin, both of Chillicothe; brother-in-law, David Morrison of Chillicothe; many nieces and nephews; and his feline companion, Kidd and his many friends at Ohio Wildlife Center.
Arrangements are being completed with Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus. Memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. Messages of condolences can be left at www.funeralvalue.com.

Mildred A. Cavinee
Mildred A. Cavinee, age 83, of Chillicothe, passed away Aug. 30, 2002.
She was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Lancaster, Ohio, daughter of Grover and Myrtle Fox. Mildred was a nurse and homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God on Ohio. 159.
She is survived by devoted and loving husband, Kenneth Cavinee; and beloved dog, Missy. Mildred and Kenneth celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July 2002. She is also survived by daughters, Jane (Robert) Olive, St. Cloud, Fla., Irita (Larry) Lauerman, Kingston, Bonita (Clifford) Greenlee, Ashville, Ohio; sons, Terry (Beverly) Cavinee, Circleville and Joseph (Pat) Cavinee, Ashville, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. Mildred is predeceased by son, Jerry Cavinee; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The viewing service will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home, Kingston. Funeral service will be held Tuesday 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Lynn Summers officiating.
Modie Josephine Chester
Modie Josephine Chester passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Westmoreland Place at the age of 97.
She was born March 7, 1905, in Pickaway County, daughter of George W. Rudell and Ollie Parcel.
She was the wife of Orley E. Chester, whom she married on Jan. 16, 1922. They were together 73 years until he died on March 1, 1995. Also predeceasing her were a son, Warner; a daughter, Zelma; a grandson, David Chester; a granddaughter, Brenda Chester; and a great-granddaughter, Tonya Chester.
Her survivors are a son, Lloyd (Almeda) Chester, of Columbus; a son, Larry (Linda) Chester; a daughter, Janet (Lloyd) Sheets, all of Chillicothe; a daughter-in-law, Marge Chester, of Grove Port; five grandchildren, Carol Leyden, Jerry Chester, Danny Chester, Kevin Chester, Kami Wheeler; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was a member of Colerain E.U.B. Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and the nursing staff and care givers at Westmoreland.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hill Funeral Home, Kingston. The service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hill's, by Rev. Glenn Newland. Burial will follow in Hallsville Cemetery.
Edith L. Farley
Edith Lucille Farley, 70, of U.S. Ohio. 23 North, Waverly, died 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbus Rehab and Subacute Institute.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Garden, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
Arnold C. Monk
Arnold C. Monk, 97, of Cross Lanes, WVa., died August 29, 2002, in CAMC General Hospital, Charleston after a short illness.
He was owner/operator of Arnold C. Land Company and lived in Sissonville and Kanawha County West Virginia until 1964, when he moved to Chillicothe, Ohio. He was a Christian by faith.
Arnold was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Gertrude Jones Monk; son, Paul Monk; brothers, Basil and Vernon Monk; sister, Emma Monk Hall.
Surviving are his son, Gene C. Monk and wife, Jean, of Sissonville, WV; daughters, Beatrice Monk Mullins of Cross Lanes, Pauline Bentley of Madison, Tenn., and Emma Oyer and husband, Joe or Chillicothe; brothers, Kermit Monk of Hurricane, WV and Dale Monk of Charleston; sister, Edith Pickens of Charleston; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2002, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, WV, with James McGehee officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, August 31, at the funeral home.
