Carl F. Chester, 69, of Sabina, Ohio, died at Clinton Memorial Hospital. Tuesday, October 14, 2003. He was born September 13, 1934, in Ross County, the son of the late Roy and Melvina Chester.
He retired from MAC TOOL.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Knox Chester, whom he married September 13, 1973; children, Scott (Diana) Wilson, Salisbury, NC, Lee Pendelton, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Sylvia (Sam) Beatty, Leesburg, Kathryn Evans, Reno, NV, Yolanda ((Robert) Beauchamp, Sun Valley, NV, Michael Chester, Ft. Myers, FL, Mark (Tammy) Chester, North Fort Myers, FL, and Carla Chester, Ft. Myers, FL; 22 grandchildren; sisters, Alma Fletcher, Clarksburg, and Etta Moss, Roxabel; and brother, Robert Chester, Chillicothe. She was preceded in death by brother, William.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery, Lees Creek.
Ruth P. Ginn
Ruth P. "Mickey" Ginn, 87, of Chillicothe, passed away on October 15, 2003, following an extended illness.
William A. Jones, M.D.
William A. Jones, M.D., 80, of Camas, Wash., formerly of Chillicothe, died Monday.
Funeral services will be at the Camas United Methodist Church, Thursday, October 16 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Concord Cemetery, in Liberty Township, Ohio.

Lillian Mae Martin
Lillian Mae Martin, 83, of Chillicothe, died 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2003, in the Adena Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was born August 18, 1920, in Roanoke, VA, to the late George D. and Cora Richardson Minter.
Surviving are a brother, Fred (Doris) Minter and their daughter, Sondra Collins, all of Norfolk, VA; several nieces and nephews, including, Charlotte (Bill) Anderson, of Chillicothe, Fran Chidester, of Buckhannon, WV, Rhonda (Dan) Ross and Nina (Gary) Watkins, all of Chillicothe, Michelle (Roger) Hopkins, of S. Bloomfield, and Ralph Minter, of Waverly; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.
Lillian attended the Bainbridge United Methodist Church and was an employee of the Bank of America in Greensboro, NC, for over 40 years.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2003, in the Ware Funeral Home, with Dr. Randy Hardman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (today).

Anne E. Talda, of Chillicothe, died October 14, 2003, in Heartland of Chillicothe, following an extended illness.
Opal R. 'Rosie' Ater
Opal R. "Rosie" Ater, age 58, of Frankfort, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at 3:23 a.m., at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe. She was born on Jan. 15, 1945, in Ross County, the daughter of the late Commie and Melvinia Horsley Lee. On June 3, 1961, she married Floyd Ater, who survives.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Carol) Ater and Mark (Shannon) Ater, all of Frankfort; four grandchildren, Dustin (Elaina) Ater, Joshua, Brock and Cody Ater; three sisters, Gladys (Raymond) Jackson, of Frankfort, Bessie (Richard) Madden, of Greenup, KY, and Evelyn (Ray) Stuckey, of Deepstep, GA; three brothers, Harley (Cecelia) Lee and Marvin (Michelle) Lee, of Frankfort, and Jerry (Dianne) Lee, of Hillsboro; her mother-im-law, Ora Ater, of Frankfort; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lee, of Streetsboro, OH, and Joy Poole, of Frankfort. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Lee and Charles Lee and one sister, Violet Carter.
Opal was the owner and operator of Whispering Pines Group Home and was a member of the Antioch Christian Church, Frankfort.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with her son, Ronald Ater officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort.

Rev. James Lawrence Rhoads
Rev. James Lawrence Rhoads, age 81, of McArthur St., West Union, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Thursday October 16, 2003, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born May 12, 1922, in Bainbridge, Ohio, a son of the late James McKibben and Della Zickafoose Rhoads.
He was united in marriage on July 25, 1940, to Marjorie Dotson Rhoads, who survives. Also surviving are one son, James D. Rhoads, of Lakeland, Florida; two daughters, Barbara Lee Irwin, of West Union, Ohio, and Lisa Denean Rhoads, of Fayetteville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Darrin Dean (Pam) Hirn, of Florence, Kentucky, and Shandra Nicole Irwin, of West Union, Ohio; two great grandchildren, Haley and Maleah Hirn; and one brother, Dale (Patty) Rhoads, of Chillicothe, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Eugene Rhoads, and one sister, Laverne Crusie.
Mr Rhoads was a Minister in the Christian Union Organization, current Pastor of Otway Christian Union Church and President of the Christian Union Bible College, in Greenfield, Ohio. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer, in the United States Navy and served during both World War II and the Vietnam War, during his 24 year career.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2003, at the Otway Christina Union Church, with Rev Hearold McElwee officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery, in Bourneville, Ohio. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Union Bible College, P.O. Box 27, Greenfield, Ohio 45123. Arrangements are under the direction of Botkin Funeral Home, in Otway.
Gary A. Rittinger
Gary A. Rittinger, 61, of Frankfort, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Thursday morning October, 16, 2003, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born March 9, 1942, to the late Herman E. and Goldie Gertrude Barnhart Rittinger. On July 29, 1977, he married the former Maxine H. Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are six children, Melynn (Ken) Howard, of Waverly, Gary (Dianá) Rittinger, of Great Falls, Va., Melissa Carrell, of Dorris, Ca., Meloni (Timothy N.) Everhart, Clint (Lisa) Rittinger and Susan Rittinger, all of Chillicothe; nine grandchildren, Ryan Howard, Andrea and Ian Rittinger, Loren, Alyssa and Casey Carrell, Jessica, Zachary and Nicholas Everhart; nieces and nephews, Theresa (Robert) Schaefer, Sharon (Arden) Gill, Karen (Alan) Gossman and Robert S. Rittinger; and special friends, James "Tom" Curtis and Gary Seymour. Gary was predeceased by a brother, Atty. Robert E. Rittinger.
Gary farmed for several years before retiring from Classic Brands, where he had worked for twenty-five years and was a volunteer fireman for the Union Twp. Squad and Fire Department in his younger years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 600, Loyal Order of Moose 1626, and Ross Co. Conservation League.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2003, in the Ware Funeral Home, with Rev. Gene Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery. Following burial family and friends will gather at the Springbank Church. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Wares, where there will be a Moose service at 7:30 p.m. and an Eagles service at 8:45 p.m.

William L. VanVelzor
William L. VanVelzor, age 88, died on Thursday, October 16, 2003, at his home. He was a long time resident of Kingston.
William was the founder and owner of the VanVelzor Metal Stamping Co., a member of the Packard Club, for 20 years, owner, builder and sponsor of the VanVelzor Auto Racing Team and an avid Ohio State fan.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Marshall VanVelzor; son by a previous marriage, Bruce VanVelzor; and sister, Lela Price; step children; nieces, nephews, relatives and fiends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2003, at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio (614) 861-6268, where friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial in Harrison Township Cemetery.

Janet Kay (Orr) Christian, 66, of Chillicothe, was surrounded by her family as she passed peacefully and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 17, 2003.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly. Burial will follow in Gardner Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of ceremony Wednesday.
