Nancy B. Mullen
Nancy Belle "Rosebud" Mullen, age 68, of Frankfort, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at her residence. She was born on Jan. 19, 1935, in War Eagle, WV, the daughter of the late Floyd and Eria Christian Collins. On May 19, 1966, she married Kenneth W. Mullen, who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1989.
Surviving are four sons, Michael, Roger, Gene and Daniel; a daughter, Sheila Howell, of Kissimmee, FL, and several nieces and nephews, including Emmalene (Hugh) Todd, whom she made her home with. Nancy was preceded in death by her 15 brothers and sisters.
She was baptized and saved at Roxabel Second Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at 1 p.m. in Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Rev. Jim Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank Dr. Manchester, Dr. Roche and the Scioto-Paint Valley Mental Health for their excellent care during Nancy's extended illness.
John L. Proehl
John L. Proehl, 78, of Chillicothe, died 12:30 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2003, in Mt. Carmel West, Columbus, following a short illness.
He was born June 5, 1925, in Ross Co., to the late Lawrence and Martha Arledge Proehl. On November 18, 1950, he married the former Mary B. Groves, who died October 21, 1994.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Keith J. and Debbie Proehl, of Chillicothe; brothers, Chester Proehl, Jimmie Dale (Kate) Proehl, Garry (Mary Jo) Proehl, all of Chillicothe, and Larry (Sharon) Proehl, of Seminole, Florida; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by an infant sister, Rosemary; and brothers, George, Herman, Julius and Richard Proehl.
John was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He retired from Chilpaco in 1987, after 41 years of service, was a member of U.P.I.U. Local 988, V.F.W. #108 andAmerical Legion Post #62. He loved to fish and bowl and was a big fan of the Chillicothe Paints.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2003, at Ware Funeral Home with his nephew, Rev. Garry A. Proehl, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, where there will be military graveside rites by the Ross County Veterans Firing Squad. Friends may call at Ware's from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Donald Edward Remy
Donald Edward Remy, 75, of Columbia Drive, Waverly, died December 11, 2003, at 12:38 p.m., at Pike Community Hospital.
He was born October 18, 1928, in Beaver, Ohio, to the late William P. and Lula Smith Remy. After spending 12 years through school and graduating from Beaver High School, on May 28, 1947, he married his wife, Betty Rhea.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty; three sons, Bill (Linda), Don Alan (Karen) and Randy (Sheri) Remy; eight grandchildren, Cindi Remy, Jodi (Scott) Armstrong, Lori (Nat) Watson, Josh (Melinda) Remy, Shane (Erin) Remy, Jason Remy, Rheadon and Davis Remy; and four great-grandchildren, Grace and Margaret Don Armstrong and Abigail and Ainsley Remy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dolph, William P. Jr., and Aubrey; and one sister, Audrey.
Don enjoyed coaching and touched the lives of many of the area's youth over the decades. He spent several years coaching girls' junior high basketball in Waverly and Piketon, where he led his team to a SVC league and tournament championship. Don was also involved with the Demolay for several years, winning the state boys' basketball title one year. Don also enjoyed coaching women's softball, taking several teams to the state tournament, with one state championship.
Don was a member of the Orient Lodge #321, Pike County Shrine Club, a former member of the Waverly City School Board and served in the United States Air Force. He was a retired car dealer and the former owner of Remy's Chrysler Plymouth in Waverly.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, at Waverly First Baptist Church, with Rev. Joshua Remy officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday (today) at Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly, and one half-hour before the service at the church on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Don Remy Scholarship Fund, c/o First National Bank, 107 N. Market Street, Waverly, Ohio 45690.

Lena Belle "Becky" Runkle, 77, of Lake County, Fla., died Thursday, in Emory Eastside Medical Center, in Snellville, Ga.
Edward Y. Su
Edward Y. Su, MD, 69, of Chillicothe, passed away suddenly on Dec. 10, 2003, while on vacation in Hawaii.

Eugene C. Byrum
Eugene C. Byrum, 77, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Saturday evening, Dec. 13, 2003 in Pleasant Hill Manor, Piketon following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 10, 1926 in Milltown, IN, the son of Luther D. and Lula M. Searls Byrum. In July 1944 he married Margaret A. Andrews.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Margaret, a daughter, Patricia Byrum, a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Reba Byrum and a son, Robert Byrum, Sr., all of Chillicothe, grandchildren, Douglas Byrum, Jr., Robert Byrum, Jr., and Vanessa Byrum, great-grandchildren, Dimitrius and Damon, a step-great grandchild, Blane, sisters, Lena M. Seaton and Mary A. Radcliff, both of Indiana and several nieces and nephews. His parents and a brother, Richard, preceded him in death.
Mr. Byrum was the owner of Byrum Roofing. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, American Legion Post 62, VFW Post 108 and the AMVETS.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with graveside honors by the Ross County Veterans Firing Squad. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday.
Earl W. Alexander
Earl W. Alexander, age 65, of Chillicothe died at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.
Virginia P. Cavett
Virginia Pauline Cavett, 91, formerly of Cincinnati and Chillicothe, passed from this life early Sunday morning, Dec. 14, 2003, in Crown Point Care Center, Columbus, following an extended illness. She was born Jan. 7, 1912 in St. Albans, WV, the daughter of Hugh C. and Lulu F. Ellis Oliver. She was married July 22, 1939, to George Cavett, who preceded her in death in 1952.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Harry (Mary) Durham, Scottsdale, AZ; a brother, David M. (June) Oliver, Hilliard, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, a brother, Hugh E. Oliver and a sister, Lanora Oliver, precede her in death.
Mrs. Cavett was a 1929 graduate of the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing and was a supervisor at the Hoxworth Blood Bank in Cincinnati, retiring in 1970.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, KY. Calling hours will not be observed. The family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice. The Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home is serving the family.
Dorothy H. Giffin
Dorothy H. Giffin, 93, of Wavery, died 1:35 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2003, at Bristol Convalescent Center in Waverly.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at the graveside, Olive Branch Cemetery in Harrisville, Ohio. Calling hours will not be observed.

Laura E. Mullins
Laura E. Mullins, 82, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Greenfield Medical Center.
She was born April 19, 1921, in Ross County to the late Robert A. and Mary E. (Brown) Pleasant.
Laura was a housewife and a secretary for Anchor Hocking. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Lancaster and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one brother, Robert L. and Freda Pleasant, of Michigan; sisters Marjorie Cobb, of Chillicothe and Karleen Martin, of Frankfort; brother-in-law, Duey Mullins, of Chillicothe; special friends, Mary (Bob) Ledgett, of Lancaster, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Mullins; sister, Grace Sheffel; brothers-in-law, Joseph Cobb, John Martin and Raymond Sheffel; and sisters-in-law, Esther Ankrom and Virginia and Chester Kemton.
Service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Halteman-Fett-Dyer funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Hudson officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Browns Chapel Cemetery in Clarksburg.
Donna Joyce Rawlins
Donna Joyce Rawlins, 58, of Jefferson, S.C., formerly of Chillicothe, died Friday, December 12, 2003.
She was born August 28, 1945 in Portsmouth and was the wife of Harvey E. Rawlins, Sr., also deceased. She was raised and preceded in death by foster parents Ellis and Flora Slack.
Survivors include a son, Harvey Rawlins Jr.; two daughters, Sharon Rawlins and Linda Miller and grandchildren, Anthony Milly, Justin Miller, Kayla Rawlins, Jeffrey Hannah and Shawn Hannah.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Davis Funeral Home in South Webster with Rev. Wendell Combs officiating. Interment will be in South Webster Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at D.W. Davis Funeral Home.
