Howard R. Hartley, 60, of Laurelville, died December 19, 2003, at his residence.
Avonelle D. Kenz
Avonelle D. Kenz, 87, of Chillicothe, died 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003, in Westmoreland Place, following an extended illness.
She was born January 14, 1916, in Chillicothe, to the late Alvin and Faye Kinkead Huston. On October 6, 1939, she married David A. Kenz, who died August 2, 1974.
Surviving are children, Nancy L. (Arlan) Cox, Norma J. Gartner, Bernese F. (Patrick) Dennis and David A. Kenz, Jr., all of Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; a brother, Oliver D. Huston, of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Phillip Kenz; a daughter, Joanna Kenz; sisters, Charlene Miller and Pauline Patton; and a son-in-law, Robert Gartner.
Avonelle was a member of the Church on the Rock.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, in Ware Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Harold F. Ours, Jr.
Harold F. Ours, Jr., 60, of Chillicothe, died 8:32 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, as the result of an automobile accident.
Kathe S. Ours
Kathe S. Ours, 52, of Chillicothe, died 11:29 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2003, in Grant Medical Center, as the result of an automobile accident on December 19, 2003.
She was born June 28, 1951, in Ross County, to the late David Carroll and Marilyn Dickerson Carroll. On February 18, 1968, she married Harold F. Ours, Jr., who died December 19, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.
In addition to her mother Marilyn (Charles) Francis, of Chillicothe, she is survived by children, Harold F. III (Carie) Ours, John David Ours and Jeffery Harley Ours, Sr., all of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Jeffery, Harold IV, Skyler and Eric; brothers, Ed (Diane) Carroll, of Reynoldsburg, OH, and John (Barbara) Carroll and George (Nancy) Carroll, all of Chillicothe; sisters, Karen (Ralph) Cox, of Lucasville, OH, and Bonnie (Kenneth) Bowsher, of Pittsburgh, PA; special friends, Linda Bigboy and Shirley Gladman; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, David Carroll.
Mrs. Ours worked as an L.P. N. She was a member of Cornerstone Church and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, in Cornerstone Church, with Pastor John Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ware Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Edward N. Steel
Edward N. Steel, age 88, of Bourneville, died at 8:31 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 30, 1915, in Twin Township, the son of the late Edward N. and Ernestine Knapp Steel. On March 20, 1940, he married his beloved wife, the former Mary Emily Miller. She preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 2002.
Surviving are two brothers, James W. Steel, of Frankfort, and Donald D. Steel, of South Salem. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Edward was a retired farmer and had served on the Board of Directors of the Citizens National Bank for over 40 years. He was a loyal and longtime supporter of the Ross County Republican Party. He was a 1933 graduate of Twin Township High School and was a member of the former Bourneville Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Pomona Grange.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Rev. Carl Hilgarth officiating. Burial will follow in Moore's Cemetery, Bourneville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from to 8 p.m.
Leola A. Brown
Leola A. Brown, age 58, died Saturday, December 20, 2003, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by parents, Roscoe and Juanita Brown; twin, Lela Johnson.
She is survived by one daughter; two grandchildren, and 12 siblings and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Cherry Creek Church of Christ, 4977 Sullivant Ave. Arrangements by C.D. White and Son Funeral Home, 1217 Mt. Vernon Ave.
Jeanne Nixon Ratcliff
Jeanne Nixon Ratcliff, 71, of Wellston, died Tuesday at O.S.U. Hospital in Columbus.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Florence H. Gay Wade
Florence H. Gay Wade, 89, recently of Heartland, died 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003, in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born June 22, 1914, in Pratts Fork, Ohio, to the late Charles and Jessie Blackwell Colburn. On March 1, 1947 she married Robert E. Gay, who died July 2, 1967, and on August 28, 1971 she married Andrew M. Wade who died July 31, 2003.
Surviving are a daughter, Sue Ann (Mel) Gay Shaw of Chillicothe, brother Fred Colburn of Shade, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by a sister, Crace Colburn and brothers, Frank, Ralph and Fletcher Colburn.
She and her husband Bob Gay were instrumental in the founding of Gay and Chaffin, Inc. Mrs. Wade was a member of the Walnut St. United Methodist Church, Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, Soroptimist Club and F.O.P. Ladies Auxiliary.
Graveside services will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, in Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Scott Smith officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Ware Funeral Home.

Robert E. Brown
Robert E. "Bob" Brown, 77, of Black Run Rd., passed from this life 12:01 a.m. Thursday, December 25, 2003 at Farm Living, Marietta Rd., Chillicothe, after several months of illness.
George Gilbert 'Gib' Grieves
George Gilbert "Gib" Grieves, age 75, of Washington CH, passed away on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. in Fayette Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 7, 1928, in Fayette County to George, Sr. and Lillian Haines Grieves. He retired from NCR and later worked at Xerox of Columbus.
Mr. Grieves was a US Army Korean Conflict veteran. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Chillicothe, the American Legion Post #25 and the Moose Lodge of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Grieves; and brother Harold Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Renner Grieves, whom he married on June 14, 1959. Also surviving are sons, Bruce Grieves and Brad Grieves, both of Washington CH; brothers, Don (Shelby) Grieves of Lady Lake, FL, and Charles (Joyce) Grieves of Washington CH; sisters, Frances Coe and Barbara (Jack) Penn all of Washington CH, Geraldine Fultz of Dayton; and one sister-in-law, Betty Martin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the Community Church, 539 W. 5th St. in Chillicothe, with Barbara Renner officiating. At Mr. Grieves request, cremation was observed. Arrangements were under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home, Washington CH.

Michael L. Howerton, 51, of Chillicothe, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Ky.
Arrangements are pending at Haller Funeral Home.
James E. 'Cork' Morris
James E. "Cork" Morris, age 68, of Frankfort, died at 9:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Mount Carmel West Medical Center, Columbus, following a sudden illness. He was born on May 15, 1935, in Ross County, the son of the late Russell and Ruth Cozad Morris. On May 24, 1956, he married the former Lucille Overly, who survives.
