Janina Lilienstern, 91, a resident of Fair Haven Shelby County home, formerly of 215 W. South St., died there Sunday, March 30, 2003, at 4:20 p.m.
She was born Oct. 14, 1911, in Wino Poland.
On Nov. 30, 1946, she married
Jan Leon Lilienstern. He died in 1997.
She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church.
The body was cremated. Burial will be held later at Graceland cemetery. Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Louise Luedeke
Died: Sunday, March 30, 2003
Age: 89
MINSTER - Louise "Hip" Luedeke, 89, 02768 Minster-Fort Recovery Road, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at 10:15 p.m. in Otterbein, St. Marys.
Born May 8, 1913, in Minster, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Anna Nagel Steinemann.
On April 22, 1939, she married
Henry W. Luedeke. He died Feb. 12, 1976.
Survivors include one brother, Carl Steinemann of Minster.
Two sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Luedeke was a member of St. Augustine Church in Minster and Fraternal Order of Eagles 1391 in Minster.
She was a homemaker and had retired from the meat and deli department at Coppess Super Value.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church with the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.

Verla R. Roll
Died: Sunday, March 30, 2003
Age: 78
NORTH STAR - Verla R. Roll Jr., 78, 16 N. Main St., father of Thomas L. Roll of Sidney, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at 8:25 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Darke County, the son of Verla L. Roll Sr. and Lillian (Schlimmer) Roll. A stepfather, Chalmer Martin, and a stepmother, Inez Roll, also preceded him in death.
On May 20, 1950, he married
Virginia Marie (George) Roll, who survives.
He also is survived by four sons, a daughter, 13 grandchildren, a great-grandson and two sisters.
A brother died in infancy.
Mr. Roll was a retired employee of Avco New Idea Corp. of Coldwater. He was also a longtime auctioneer. He was a member of North Star Village Council and was a charter member of North Star Fire Department. He served as fire chief for 41 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the south Pacific. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member and past commander of North Star American Legion, and was a member of VFW post and Elks lodge of Greenville. He attended St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church Thursday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military services conducted by North Star American Legion members.
Friends may call at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., and at the church Thursday from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Mercer-Darke County Hospice.
Norbert E. Romie

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Norbert E. Romie, 67, died Sunday, March 30, 2003.
He was born in Fort Loramie.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene A. Romie of Fort Wayne, three sons, David P. Romie of Brownsburg, Ind., Michael E. Romie of Chicago, Ill., and Joseph R. Romie of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mary S. Cronin of Bellefonte, Pa., and Kathleen A. Cabral of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers, Harold Romie of Fairborn and Oscar Romie of Dayton; two sisters, Helen Council of Greenville and Luella McGowan of Fort Loramie and eight grandchildren.
One son preceded him in death.
Mr. Romie was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
He was a United States Army Veteran.
He was a graduate of Indiana Tech College and was an engineer with International Truck and Engineering for 35 years, retiring in 1999.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and home improvement.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Peter Catholic Church, 518 E. DeWald St. with calling hours one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Friends may call at the D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a rosary said at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Masses, Boy Scouts of America or Cancer Services of Allen County.
Paul Ralph Berger

Age: 22
COLDWATER - Paul Ralph Berger, 22, 312 E. Main St., Coldwater, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his residence of natural causes.
He was born March 1, 1981 in St. Marys, the son of Patrick and Joyce (Bertke) Berger, who survive.
He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. David (Mandy) Koenig of Chickasaw and Casie Berger of Coldwater; three brothers, Pete, Adam and Brandon Berger, all of Coldwater; grandparents Mrs. and Mrs. Paul Berger of Minster and Mrs. Ralph (Annie) Bertke of Maria Stein.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather.
Mr. Berger was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater and was a participant in the Cheryl Ann Programs.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth cemetery in Coldwater.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9-10 a.m. at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Helen C. Bracken

Age: 87
MINSTER - Helen C. Bracken, 87, 12544 State Route 362, West Lake Village, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 2:40 a.m. at Heritage Manor Nursing Center. She had suffered an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Minster, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Senger) Sommer.
On Feb. 16, 1943, she married
Charles B. Bracken in Casablanca, Africa. He survives.
Other survivors are two daughters, Bernadine Welke of Italy and Mrs. Vincent (Christine) Ramby of Cape Natick, Maine; a son, Michael Bracken of Michigan; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Leona Myers of Dayton, Lois Vandenbrock of Kettering and Jacqueline Lunsford of Charleston, S.C.
Two sisters and a brother are deceased.
Mrs. Bracken was a homemaker. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in north Africa and Sicily. She was a surgical nurse at an evacuation hospital with the 7th Army under Gen. George Patton. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster.
Services are planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster, with the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine cemetery, Minster.
No calling hours are planned.
Betty A. Kishler

Age: 78
ST. MARYS - Betty A. Kishler, 78, 132 Sturgeon St., St. Marys, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 3:30 a.m. at Otterbein Retirement Community.
She was born Aug. 20, 1924, in New Bremen, the daughter of Walter and Helen (Kettler) Behm.
On Oct. 20, 1945, she married
Marvin B. Kishler, who survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Bruck Kishler of Van Wert and John Kishler of St. Marys; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kishler was a homemaker. She was a member of Wayne Street Methodist Church. She was a member of the Shakespeare Club, Drama Club, Friends of the Community Library in St. Marys. She had served as a den mother for scouts. She was a 1942 graduate of New Bremen High School and had attended the University of Dayton. She had once been employed at St. Marys Woolen Mills and Wright Patterson Air Force Base during.
The funeral will Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys, with Rev. David Woodyard officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery in St. Marys.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hubert H. Martin

Age: 90
Hubert H. Martin, 90, 202 S. Brooklyn Ave., died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 3:15 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Burk Hollow, Ky., the son of Lee Martin and Linda (Bennett) Martin.
On March 20, 1932, he married
Pearl M. (Marlow) Martin. She died March 26, 1991.
He is survived by three sons, Kenneth Martin Sr., Jimmie L. Martin and Arnold G. Martin, all of Sidney; three daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Viredia) Mertz, Mrs. Robert (Drama) Bey and Mrs. Julian (Darlene) Dean, all of Sidney; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Martin was a retired employee of Stolle Corp.
Services are set for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Gillem officiating. Burial will be in Shelby Memory Gardens, Hardin.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pauline Bertha Caldwell

Age: 88
PIQUA - Pauline Bertha Caldwell, 88, formerly of Covington, and then more recently of 1851 Grant St., Piqua, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, in the Covington Care Center.
She was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Piqua to the late Warren and Margaret (Elicker) Atkinson. She married
Charles Omer Caldwell April 5, 1934, in Piqua; he preceded her in death in 1975.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Shroyer of Troy and Patty and James Bayman of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Larry and Becky Caldwell of Covington; grandchildren Scott Shroyer, Kimberly Edmisten, Julia Wenrick, Michael Bayman, Todd Caldwell, Clinton Caldwell and Wendy Caldwell Supinger; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Rowell of Piqua; and brother, James Atkinson of Fort Loramie.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dean Shroyer; granddaughter, Lisa Bayman; brothers, Bud, Marvin and Jackie Atkinson; and sister, Dorothy Long.
She was a past member of the Order of the Easter Star in Covington. She enjoyed reading and playing cards with her friends. But what she valued most in her life was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Pastor Robert Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow in the Miami Memorial Park cemetery.
