Adolph Lauterbur

Age: 94
ST. MARYS - Adolph "Ott" Lauterbur, 94, formerly of 15370 County Road 66A, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Auglaize Acres nursing home in Wapakoneta. He had resided there since 2000.
He was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Shelby County, the son of Peter Lauterbur and Theresa (Schott) Lauterbur.
On Jan. 12, 1937, he married
Thekla (Danzig) Lauterbur, who died May 19, 1984.
He is survived by a nephew, Alvin Wiest of Botkins, who was his caregiver, and two nieces, Marjorie Young of Centerville and Mrs. (Gifford) Solem of Miamisburg.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mr. Lauterbur was a lifelong farmer. He attended the former Uno School near St. Patrick. He was a member of Shelby County Deer Hunters Association and Eagles Lodge 767 of St. Marys. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Heinl officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery, Fort Loramie.
Friends may call at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday one hour before the Mass.
Memorials may be made to Auglaize Acres Activity Fund.
Tim C. Mahan
Died: Tuesday, April 22, 2003
Age: 53
Tim C. Mahan, 53, of Rosewood died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 6:45 p.m. in Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Sidney March 20, 1950, the son of Herbert C. and Mary (Bartel) Mahan.
He married
Bernice Clark Aug. 30, 1969 and she survives. Other survivors include his parents of St. Paris; a sister, Mrs. Ernest (Denise K.) Moore of Pascagoula, Miss.; a brother, Mark Mahan of St. Paris and his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Norma Clark of Rosewood.
Mr. Mahan was a 1968 graduate of Graham High School, a 1972 graduate of Urbana University and did graduate work at Ohio State University.
He retired in 1983 from Copeland Corporation, Sidney, where he was employed as a chemist. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a former member of the New York Academy of Science.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Rosewood United Methodist Church by Pastor Jerry Lewis. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Conover. There will be no visitation.

Elizabeth M. Smisek
Died: Tuesday, April 22, 2003
Age: 94
Elizabeth M. Smisek, 94, 3003Cisco Road, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 7:40 p.m. at Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney.
She was born April 14, 1909 in Morgantown, W. Va., the daughter of Simon and Anna (Behun) Major.
She married
Rudolph Smisek in 1932 and he preceded her in death July 3, 1989.
She is survived by two nieces, Evelyn Presser of Sidney and Mildred Denick of St. Petersburg, Fla. and a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters.
She was retired from Sheraton Furniture Co. in Willoughby were she had been employed as a sewing machine operator.
Funeral services will be private.
The Cromes Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Lawrence W. Taylor

Lawrence W. Taylor Sr., 72, 818 N. Buckeye Ave., Sidney, died April 22, 2003 at 6 p.m. at the Riverside Campgrounds, 3938 Cooks Drive, DeGraff.
He was born April 11, 1931 in Keno, Ky. the son of the late William and Clida (Davis) Taylor.
He married
Gloria A. Strunk Jan. 25, 1949 and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald E. and Lawrence W. Taylor Jr., both of Sidney; a daughter, Diane Branscum of Sidney; and seven brothers, Kenneth, Jimmy, Donald, Roscoe, Charles and Keith Taylor, all of Kings Mountain, Ky. and Ronald Taylor of Portsmouth.
He is also survived by 11 sisters, Glenna Davis, Wilma Dobbs, Nina Bertsch, Ludie Tucker, and Wilda Graham, all of Sidney, Luada Leish of Danville, Ill., Diane Wilson of Kentucky, Janice Wells of Eubank, Ky., Eva Alsop of Carrollton, Ky., Francis Snow of Vandalia and Tresa Cook of Portsmouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters and one brother.
Mr. Taylor was formerly employed at Copeland Corporation in Sidney.
Services will be conducted Friday at 7 p.m. at the Cromes Funereal Home by the Rev. Kenneth Ellis. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Keno, Ky.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Sidney.
Jerome M. Subler

Age: 88
VERSAILLES - Jerome M. "Jerry" Subler, 88, 123 W. Water St., died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at 1:45 a.m. in his residence.
Born June 14, 1914, in Frenchtown, he was the son of the late Frank and Adaline Barga Subler.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Gehret Subler of Versailles.
Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Patricia) Kramer of Versailles; one sister, Cecelia Simon of Versailles, six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Six brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Subler was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1758, a Fourth Degree member of St. Gasper Del Bufalo Assembly in Minster and a member of St. Valbert cemetery Board.
He had formerly owned and operated Jerry Subler Garage.
There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Denis Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Vincent officiating. Burial will be in St. Valbert cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles and one hour prior to the service on Monday. The Knights of Columbus will conduct a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Darke County.
Roger W. Hickerson
Died: Tuesday, March 25, 2003
Age: 64
ANNA - Roger W. Hickerson, 64, 8485 State Route 119, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at 5:30 p.m. at his residence. He had suffered an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Frederick, Ohio, the son of Marvin and Margurite (Koverman) Hickerson.
On July 18, 1959, he married
Verona (Ferguson) Hickerson, who survives.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Vince (Laura) Bergman of Yorkshire; a son, Chris Hickerson of Minster; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Omer Hickerson of New Bremen, John Henry Hickerson of Virginia and his twin brother, Rodney Hickerson of Columbus; and a sister, Alma Mae Chambers of Sharonville.
Three brothers and a sister are deceased.
Mr. Hickerson was retired from STAMCO Corp. of New Bremen. He worked there 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a second class machinist mate. He was on the USS Wyandot during three "Operation Deep Freeze" missions to Antarctica. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Services are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster, with Deacon John Schmiesing officiating. The body was donated to the Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Friends may call Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Minster Area Life Squad.
Leonard C. Homan
Died: Tuesday, March 25, 2003
Age: 72
VERSAILLES - Leonard C. Homan, 72, formerly of State Route 119, Maria Stein, died Tuesday, March 25 at 8:22 a.m. at Versailles Health Care Center where he had resided four years.
He was born March 30, 1930 in Maria Stein, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Schulte) Homan.
He married
Alice Pleiman, Oct. 4, 1952 in Philothea and she preceded him in death March 11, 1992.
He is survived by five sons, Ronald Homan of Russia, Richard Homan of Maria Stein, Roger Homan of Minster, Roy Homan of Bowling Green, Ky. and Robert J. Homan of Maria Stein and 12 grandchildren.
He is also survived by one brother, Othmar Homan of Maria Stein; and five sisters, Mrs. Maurice (Mary Ann) Homan of Coldwater, Mrs. Maurice (Dolores) Cron of Coldwater, Mrs. Roger (Irene) Will of St. Sebastian, Mrs. Lester (Viola) Stammen of St. Henry and Mrs. Daniel (Dorothy) Eifert of Cassella.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Homan, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, was retired from Springcreek Corporation where he was a dispatcher. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Maria Stein and its Men's Sodality and a member and past commander of Maria Stein American Legion Post 571.
Services will be conducted Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church by Rev. Kenneth Schroeder. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside full military honors by the Maria Stein American Legion.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Nuerological Center.
Teresa A. Rickett
Died: Monday, March 24, 2003
Age: 58
Teresa A. Rickett, 58, of Belleview, Fla., sister of Donald Robbins of Sidney, died Monday, March 24, 2003 at 6:15 p.m. in Belleview.
She was born in Sidney, the daughter of Donald and Emma (Fogt) Robbins and had been employed 20 years as a control stocker for Disney World.
She is survived by a son, Bryan Rickett with whom she resided in Belleview; her brother in Sidney and three other brothers, James Robbins of Kissimmee, Fla., Brent Robbins of Frederick, Md. and William Robbins of St. Cloud, Fla.; a sister, Roxy Richards of Kissimmee, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son.
Ms. Rickett was of the protestant faith and enjoyed gardening. She had moved to Kissimmee from San Antonio, Texas before her last illness.
Her body was cremated at the Florida Cremation Society and the ashes scattered on a property where she had resided many years.
A family gathering was held last weekend in Florida in lieu of public funeral services.
Elizabeth R. Schlarman
Died: Monday, March 24, 2003
Age: 69
OSGOOD - Elizabeth R. "Liz" Schlarman, 69, of 8373 State Route 705, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at 6:10 a.m. in Joint Township District Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 7, 1933, in Yorkshire she was the daughter of the late Anton and Sophia Hoelscher Wenning.
On Sept. 17, 1955, in Osgood, she married
Hugo Schlarman. He survives.
Survivors include one son, Ron Schlarman of Riverside; one daughter, Tina Williams of Riverside; three sisters, Josephine Bruns of Yorkshire, Rita Bollheimer of Fort Loramie and Theresa Alexander of Russia; two brothers, Cletus Wenning of Osgood and Leo Wenning of Yorkshire and two grandchildren.
One brother and three children preceded her in death.
Mrs. Schlarman was a member of St. Nicholas Church and St. Barbara Ladies Sodality in Osgood.
She was a Cub Scout Leader, a church decorator and she enjoyed knitting and holding her grandchildren.
She worked as a correspondent for the Osgood area for local newspapers.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church with the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday.
