Linda L. Van Hook, 60, 1333 Stephens Road, Sidney, died Monday, March 24, 2003 at 9:34 p.m. at her residence where she had been in failing health.
She was born July 10, 1942 in Worley, Kay., the daughter of Tillman and Sophie (Laws) Bolin.
She married
Franklin D. Van Hook in 1958 and he survives with four sons, Derrick A., Darryl K. and Daniel K. Van Hook, all of Sidney and Thomas W. VanHook of Franklin; two daughters, Tara L. Schemmel and Beth M. Lee, both of Sidney; 18 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters, one brother and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, a sister and one granddaughter.
Mrs. Van Hook was a homemaker and a member of the Northtowne Church of God.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at Northtowne Church of God by Rev. Kenneth Ellis and Rev. George Gnade. Burial will be in Cedar Point cemetery, Pasco.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home in Sidney.
Floyd Whitehead
Died: Monday, March 24, 2003
Age: 58
Floyd Whitehead, 58, 635 Ardess Place, died Monday, March 24, 2003, in his residence.
Born Aug. 3, 1944, in Pineville, Ky., he was the son of the late John and Ella Smith Whitehead.
On Aug. 3, 1983, he married
the former Jacqueline Lackey. She survives.
Other survivors include one brother, Taylor Whitehead of Oak Forest, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. William (Della) Triplett of Oak Forest.
One brother and 11 sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Whited was a member of the First Church of God in Bellefontaine.
He was employed as a set up man at Copeland Corporation for 27 years.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Cromes Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Irick officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Stewart A. Ash
Died: Sunday, March 23, 2003
Age: 86
Stewart A. Ash, 86, former superintendent of Shelby County Children's Home, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at 10:15 p.m. He was a resident of Dorothy Love Retirement Community.
He was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Cincinnati, the son of Anthony C. Ash and Fannie W. (Woodruff) Ash.
On April 1, 1939, he married
Martha B. (Ballard) Ash, who survives.
Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Janet) Godown of Dayton, Mrs. Greg (Carolyn) Helman of Houston, and Mrs. Bruce (Beth) Smith of Sidney; a son, Martin "Bud" Ash of Beavercreek; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, two brothers and a grandson preceded him in death.
Mr. Ash retired in 1982 as a patter maker with Sidney Pattern. Before that he was a past Children's Home superintendent. His wife served as matron. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Services are planned for Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Amos Chapel of Dorothy Love, with the Rev. George Gnade and Dr. Fred Lacuesta officiating. Burial will be in Glen cemetery, Port Jefferson.
Friends man call at Dorothy Love Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Cromes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty A. Lee
Died: Sunday, March 23, 2003
Age: 70
Betty A. Lee, 70, 624 Park St., died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at 6:25 p.m. in Sidney Care Center.
Born Nov. 4, 1932, in Sidney, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Clara Haithcock Lee.
Survivors include three sisters, Shirley Lee of Sidney and Margaret Keith of St. Marys, Grace Spence of Lima, and one brother, Richard Lee of Sidney. One brother preceded her in death.
She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Sidney.
She was retired from Lima Memorial Hospital where she worked in the housekeeping department.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Cromes Funeral Home with the Rev. Earnest Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Leona I. Weaver
Died: Saturday, March 29, 2003
Age: 84
VERSAILLES - Leona I. Weaver, 84, of Versailles, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 8:10 a.m. at Versailles Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Darke County, the daughter of the late Clarence and Bertha (Bang) Masner.
On June 15, 1941, she married
James R. Weaver, who died in 1979.
She is survived by a sister Mrs. Larry (Lillian) Kailus of Versailles and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Weaver had owned and operated the Fashion Shop in Versailles until her retirement in 1977. She was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for 12 years at Weaver Brothers, Inc. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles and former member of Versailles Eastern Star 113.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, with Pastor Dan Bell officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Versailles.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Janell E. Bertsch
Died: Friday, March 28, 2003
Age: 84
Janell E. Bertsch, 84, 1137 Fairmont Drive, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at her residence.
She was born April 11, 1918, in Coldwater, the daughter of Earl and Gertrude (Ballweg) Wooddell.
In February 1949, she married
Forest Bertsch. He died in 1975.
She is survived by a daughter, Jan Bertsch of Sidney, and two brothers, John H. Wooddell of Sidney and Robert Wooddell of Tucson, Ariz.
A sister and three brothers are deceased.
Mrs. Bertsch was a retired employee of the Shelby County Commissioners' office and had been the director of the CETA program in Shelby County. She was a graduate of Northwestern Business School of Lima. She was a member of Sidney Elks lodge, VFW and American Legion auxiliaries. She attended Holy Angels Catholic Church and was a member of the Rosary Altar Sodality.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church Thursday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Earl Fernandes officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Lehman Catholic High School or Shelby County Meals on Wheels. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
H. Irene Harelson

Age: 82
LIMA - H. Irene Harelson, 82, of Lima, sister of a local man, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at 8:07 p.m. at Plus Health Care Center in Lima.
She was born July 21, 1920, in Pemberton, the daughter of Elza and Nellie M. (Allenbaugh) Bell.
On Jan. 29, 1945, she married
William H. Harelson Sr., who died in 1987.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Birchfield and Norma Gross, both of Lima; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Frances) Sutton of Bellefontaine and a brother, Carl Bell of Sidney.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Mrs. Harelson retired after 23 years with the Department of Human Services in Lima and Findlay. She had also worked at Renz Bakery. She was a member of Lafayette Order of Eastern Star Chapter 121, Sugar Creek Church of the Brethern and United Methodist Church of Pemberton.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Siferd Funeral Home, Westwood Chapel, with Rev. Marty Moyer officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Creek cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday from noon until 2 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home Westwood Chapel. There will be Eastern Star services at 8 p.m.
Stanley H. Shuster

Age: 79
KETTLERSVILLE - Stanley H. Shuster, 79, 8722 State Route 274, Kettlersville, died Friday, March 28, 2003 at 8:53 p.m. at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born Sept. 13, 1923, in New Knoxville, the son of Harvey and Caroline (Kuck) Shuster.
On Aug. 5, 1950, he married
Mary Lou Schwaiger, who survives in Kettlersville.
He is also survived by six daughters, Mrs. Martin (Lucinda) Bowman of Anna, Mrs. Leo (Michele) Borchers of Fort Loramie, Mrs. John (Denise) Koverman of McCartyville, Mrs. Neil (Genevieve) Schroer of Anna, Mrs. Kenny (Camille) Young of Anna and Mrs. Mike (Corrine) Prenger of Botkins; two sons, Brian Shuster and Barton Shuster, both of Kettlersville; 31 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Harold (Audrey) Wietholter of New Bremen.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, a sister and four brothers.
Mr. Shuster was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Kettlersville, where he had served as an Elder, Deacon and custodian. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Sergeant in the European Theater during World War II as part of C Battery, 217 Field Artillery Battalion, 44th Infantry Division. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 4239, AmVets Post 1989, DAV Chapter 48, 40/8 Post 367 and was past Commander of American Legion Post 217 in Sidney. He was Chaplain of American Legion District 2 and was serving as its National Securities Chairman. He also had served on its Department of Ohio Credential Committee.
He served on the Shelby County Memorial Monumental Building Boar of Trustees. He had served on the Anna School Board, Shelby County Republican Central Committee, Shelby County Board of Elections, Kettlersville Village Council. He served as Van Buren Township Clerk and was a 36-year member of Kettlersville-Van Buren Township Fire Department. For a number of year he played baseball with Western Ohio Semi-pro League softball and on a number of local slow and fast pitch teams. He retired in 1986 from Hoge Lumber Co. in New Knoxville.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post 241 at 6458 State Route 66, New Bremen, with the Revs. James Melter and Will Cook officiating. Burial will be Thursday at Ohio Western Reserve National cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at the American Legion Post 241, New Bremen. Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen is in charge of arrangements.

Orville L. Weatherhead

Age: 89
FLETCHER - Orville L. Weatherhead, 89, of the Covington Care Center and formerly of Fletcher, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at 2:03 a.m. in Upper Valley Medical Center.
He was born July 1, 1913, in Miami County, the son of the late Joseph H. and Effie (Moore) Weatherhead.
On May 10, 1933, he married
Bonnie Marie Hunt in Winchester, Ind., and she survives.
He is also survived by a son Don of Post Falls, Idaho, a daughter, Shirley Ann Flagg of Dayton, three grandchildren, a brother, Herman Weatherhead of Dayton, two sisters, Mildred Johnson of Troy and Kathryn "Sue" Kapser of Pleasant Hill.
He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Weatherhead retired from Hobart Brothers in Troy in 1978 after 36 years. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Troy. He and his wife ran Weatherhead Market in Fletcher in the 1940s. He had been a volunteer with the Fletcher Fire Department.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church in Troy with Pastor David Mix officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Suber Funeral Home in Fletcher.
