BLUFFTON - Charles R. "Bob" Reineke, 80, Bluffton, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at 8 a.m. at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Bluffton.
He was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Port Jefferson, the son of Charles M. and Katie M. (Cotterman) Reineke.
He married
Beatrice Mendenhall in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1986.
He is survived by a daughter Joann Shade Blosser of Lima; two sons, Sam Reineke and Ed Reineke of Bluffton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Violet) Nicholson of Port Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Mr. Reineke was retired from Ex-Cell-O Corp. in Bluffton and was a bus driver for Bluffton Schools. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bluffton. He was a member of Bluffton Masonic Lodge 432 and Royal Arch Masons 169, Spencerville. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4510 in Arlington, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles 1403 in Sidney. He belonged to the Elks Lodge 786, Sidney and Bluffton Senior Citizens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Home in Bluffton, with the Rev. Dee Wentz officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery in Bluffton, with military graveside rites by Arlington VFW 4510.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic Service will be at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bluffton First United Methodist Church or Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.
William R. Shepherd
Died: Sunday, February 9, 2003
Age: 64
William R. "Bill" Shepherd Sr., 64, of Topeka, Kan., a native of Sidney and a former Sidney Police officer, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Sidney, the son of Charles E. and Sally Inez (Massengale) Shepherd.
On Aug. 1, 1958, he married
Marilyn K. (Sams) Shepherd, who survives.
He also is survived by four sons, William "Billy" Shepherd, Thomas "Tom" Shepherd, Anthony "Tony" Shepherd and Michael "Mike" Shepherd, all of Topeka; a daughter, Nina Taylor of Topeka; a stepmother, Eva Moon Shepherd of Sidney; 22 grandchildren; four brothers, Roger Shepherd of Haughton, La., Charles "Chuck" Shepherd II of Anna, John Shepherd of Sidney and Jim Brooks of Fayetteville, Ga.; and eight sisters, Carol Ann Shepherd of Chattanooga, Tenn., Susan Gariety of Anna, Mary Terry of Sidney, Barbara Haning of Piqua, Katy Chorba of Omaha, Neb., Bobbie Jo Davidson of Tampa, Fla., Audrey Gray of Fayetteville, N.C., and Ellen Long of Douglasville, Ga.
An infant daughter preceded him in death.
Mr. Shepherd was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Forbes Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of the Sidney Police Department before moving to Topeka. He worked at Hankamers Construction as a maintenance supervisor. Later he worked for many trucking freight lines in Topeka as a driver and in dispatch. He worked for Tomco and Larry Meier's trucking companies for many years. He drove trucks for the Heartland Park Racetrack and the Kansas Turnpike. He retired in 2001. He also was a distributor of AMWAY products.
Services will be Friday at Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence St., Topeka. The body will be cremated. Internment will be held later at Memorial Park cemetery, Topeka.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The body will lie in state after 3 p.m.

Susan K. Sylvester
Died: Sunday, February 9, 2003
Age: 51
GREENVILLE - Susan K. Sylvester, 51, 311 Short St., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at 9:35 a.m. in her residence.
Born July 8, 1951, in Greenville, she was the daughter of Marie Taylor Sylvester and the late John Sylvester.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her twin brother, Steve Sylvester of Piqua, and her brother, Michael Sylvester of Sidney.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Cicero cemetery in Cicero Ind.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Carlene S. Caywood
Died: Saturday, February 8, 2003
Age: 58
ST. MARYS - Carlene S. Caywood, 58, formerly of 330 U.S. 33, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at 12:30 a.m. at Otterbein Retirement Community.
She was born Jan. 24, 1945, in St. Marys, the daughter of Carl and Arline (Baker) Caywood.
She is survived by two brothers, Don Caywood of McCormick, S.C., and Calvin Caywood of St. Marys.
She was retired from Auglaize Industries of New Bremen. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and was a member of the church's Women's Guild and Rebecca Circle. She was a former member of Girl Scouts of America.
Services are planned for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery, St. Marys.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marie M. Koch

Age: 91
WAPAKONETA - Marie M. Koch, 91, Shelby-Fryburg Road, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at 9:05 a.m. at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born March 15, 1911, in Pusheta Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of Lewis and Anna (Elsass) Mann.
On April 2, 1934, she married
John K. Koch. He died March 8, 1975.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Pauline (Don) Krites of Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Mann of Sidney.
A son, a brother and four sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Koch was a homemaker and was a volunteer at Auglaize Acres. She was active in the Farm Bureau and enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Clay Township, and served as a Sunday school teacher, in the church choir and the Women's Guild.
Services are planned for Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Al Swartz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour before the service.

Esther A. Kuck
Died: Saturday, February 8, 2003
Age: 94
NEW BREMEN - Esther A. Kuck, 94, 423 E. Front St., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at 3:40 p.m. at St. Marys Living Center.
She was born May 11, 1908, near New Bremen, the daughter of Edward H. and Alvina (Borgeding) Quellhorst.
On Oct. 25, 1934, she married
Ewald D. Kuck, who died in 1982.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Frances) Reese of Pandora, Barbara Dill of Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. Bruce (Lois) Saintingnon of Celina; three sons, David Kuck, Lee Kuck and William Kuck all of New Bremen; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a sister.
Mrs. Kuck was a member of First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where she had taught the German Bible class. She was also active in volunteer work. She was a 1925 graduate of New Bremen High School and a 1929 graduate of Oakwood Institute in Cincinnati. She was a member of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau and had served on the Ohio State Farm Bureau Women's Committee.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will be in German Protestant cemetery in New Bremen.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold M. Richters
Died: Saturday, February 8, 2003
Age: 66
VERSAILLES - Harold M. "Hal" Richters, 66, 411 S. Center St., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at 10:55 p.m. at his home.
He was born May 6, 1936, in Island Lake Township, Minn., the son of the late Claus and Hertha (Stelter) Richters.
On June 27, 1959, he married
Marilyn Subler, who survives in Versailles.
He also is survived by two sons, Gregory S. Richters of Atlanta, Ga., and Douglas C. Richters of Tipp City; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Art (Alice) Raine of Marshall, Minn. and Edna Wilmes of Lawrence, Kan., and a brother Edward "Bud" Richters of Russell, Minn.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Richters was the founder and chief executive officer of Accord Financial Group Inc. in Covington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles. He was a member of the Order of Eagles in Versailles. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a bachelor of science and of the University of Michigan with a master of business administration.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles, with the Rev. Dan Bell officiating. Burial will be in St. Valbert cemetery in Versailles.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home and Wednesday one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service at the church.

John F. Callahan
Died: Friday, February 7, 2003
Age: 75
HOUSTON - John F. Callahan, 75, 3024 State Route 66, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at 12:35 p.m. at The Pavilion of Sidney.
He was born Dec. 18, 1927, in LaFollette, Tenn., the son of Silas Callahan and Q. Elizabeth (Ray) Callahan.
On Dec. 22, 1948, he married
Elitha (Lawson) Callahan. She died July 8, 1994.
He is survived by three sons, Wayne Callahan of Houston and Joe Callahan and Ralph Callahan, both of Sidney; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Pauletta of LaFollette.
Mr. Callahan was a maintenance employee at the former Wagner Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1990.
Services are planned for Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip Chilcote officiating. Burial will be in Shelby Memory Gardens, Hardin.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Queen Isabelle Koons

Age: 99
NEW BREMEN - Queen Isabelle Koons, 99, formerly of 9697 County Road 66A, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at 6:15 a.m. at Fair Haven Shelby County Home.
She was born Nov. 28, 1903, in Auglaize County, the daughter of William and Hanna (Cowhick) Knous.
On April 12, 1926, she married
George Andrew Koons. He died May 22, 1991.
She is survived by two sons, Virgil Koons and Roy Robert Koons, both of Sidney, a daughter, Mrs. Sam (Bonnie Jane) Ashford of Sidney, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Koons was a homemaker and assisted in the operation of the family farm. She was a retired cook from Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. She enjoyed reading, traveling and making crafts. She attended Gospel Mission Church in St. Marys.
Services are planned for Monday at 2 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, with the Rev. Frank Casey officiating. Burial will be in Swamp College cemetery, Celina.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
