Sarah A. Davis
Died: Friday, November 29, 2002
Age: 90

Sarah A. Davis, 90, 8001 Dayton-Springfield Road, Fairborn, formerly of Sidney, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at 8:40 p.m. at Day Springs Nursing Home in Fairborn.

She was born Dec. 8, 1911, in Sidney, the daughter of Sylvester Barker and Bertha (Chambers) Barker.

In 1943 she married Richard W. Davis. He died June 14, 1993.

She is survived by a son, Richard Davis Jr. of Dayton; three grandchildren; four brothers, Leonard Barker and Marcellus Barker, both of Sidney, Robert L. Barker of St. James City, Fla., and William R. Barker of Troy; and two sisters, Marcella Detrick of Sidney and Georgia Liller of Rio Verde, Ariz.

Mrs. Davis was a retired employee of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She was administrative assistant to the commander of the 4950th Avionics Maintenance Squadron, retiring in 1982 after 16 years at the base. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Fairborn.

Services are set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Heckaman officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from noon until the time of service.

Earl H. LeVan III
Died: Friday, November 29, 2002
Age: 45

Earl H. "Skip" LeVan III, 45, of Sidney, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002.

He was born April 17, 1957, in Piqua, the son of the late Earl H. LeVan II and Anna (Ward) LeVan who survives in Piqua.

On Nov. 2, 2001, he married Doris (McClure) Leis, in Piqua and she survives.

He is also survived by four sons, Earl H. IV, John, Brandon and Evin, all of Piqua; a step-daughter, Mrs. Eric (Michelle) Zumbrun of DeGraff; a sister, Cathy Maggert of Piqua and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Mr. LeVan was employed at Norcold Inc. in Sidney for 20 years. He attended Family of Grace United Methodist Church in Piqua. He was a 1975 graduate of Piqua High School. He had been a martial instructor and was a black belt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving between 1976-1980.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Family of Grace United Methodist Church in Piqua, with Rev. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will be in Miami Memorial Park cemetery in Covington.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home.

Walter C. Flath
Died: Thursday, November 28, 2002
Age: 81

Walter C. Flath, 81, 20838 Deam Road, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 at 9:50 p.m. at Dorothy Love Retirement Center.

He was born March 2, 1921 in Clayton, the son of Charles and Anna (Webster) Flath.

He married Mary Michael, Nov. 15, 1942 and she survives along with three sisters, Ruth Johnston Adams of Sidney, Clara Davis of Sidney and Ethel Vearn of Dayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Flath, a retired farmer, was a lifelong Shelby County resident, a former president of the Shelby County Fair Board and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 217 in Sidney and Maplewood Grange.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home in Sidney by Rev. George Gnade. Burial will be in Cedar Point cemetery, Pasco.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. An American Legion memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Larry E. Nance
Died: Wednesday, November 27, 2002
Age: 45

VERSAILLES - Larry E. Nance, 45, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at 5:40 a.m. at Versailles Health Care Center.

He was born Sept. 29, 1957 in Champaign County, the son of the late Robert and Helen (Mayberry) Nance.

He married Kay York of Versailles June 30, 1996 and she survives along with two sons, Greg Nance of Minster and Ryan Fields of Versailles; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Christi) Herr and Mrs. Chuck (Michelle) Stanifer, both of Springboro; and seven grandchildren.

He is also survived by six sisters, Mrs. Ken (Mary) Schlarman of Troy, Mrs. Mike (Bobbie) Schlarman of Osgood, Linda Newcom of Coldwater, Mrs. Melvin (Kathy) Monnin of Russia, Mrs. Sam (Judy) Mann of Osgood, and Mrs. Frank (Becky) Grilliot of Russia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Mr. Nance had worked as a truck driver for Eugene Meyer Trucking in Versailles.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. in Beamsville Church with Rev. Steve Short officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Darke County Cancer Association or Beamsville Church.

LaDora Harriet Stayrook
Died: Wednesday, November 27, 2002
Age: 92

DEGRAFF - LaDora Harriet Stayrook, 92, formerly of DeGraff, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at 6:45 a.m. at Logan Acres of Bellefontaine.

She was born Feb. 10, 1910, in Devils Lake, S.C., the daughter of George William and Addie Victoria (Hook) Meranda.

On April 2, 1972, she married Andrew Jacob Stayrook. He died Sept. 21, 1990.

She is survived by a son, Wayne Johnston of DeGraff, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, a brother, two sisters and a grandson.

Mrs. Stayrook was a retired employee of Stolle Corp., where she worked as a paint sprayer. She was a member of Stoneycreek Church of the Brethren.

Graveside services are set for Friday at 1 p.m. at Greenwood-Union cemetery, DeGraff, with the Rev. Floyd Lundy officiating.

No calling hours are planned.

Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home of DeGraff is in charge of arrangements.

Lisa Wright
Died: Thursday, November 7, 2002
Age: 45

Lisa Wright, 45, of 334 1/2 Grove St., died Nov. 7, 2002, in her residence of a gunshot wound.

Born Oct. 30, 1957, in Allen County, Ind., she was the daughter of Harley J. and Delores G. Wright.

In 1997 she moved to Sidney from Fort Wayne.

Along with her parents two half-brothers survive her, Larry Dowden of Elmira, Calif., Dave Dowden, and one half-sister, Carol Dowden.

She had been employed at the Comfort Inn in Sidney.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in Graceland cemetery, Sidney, with Paul Frank officiating. The body was cremated. There will be no calling hours.

Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Domestic Violence Prevention Program and can be mailed to the funeral home at 502 S. Ohio Ave.

Donna Jean Vonderhuevel
Died: Saturday, November 9, 2002
Age: 47

Donna Jean Vonderhuevel, 47, 1202 Hilltop Ave., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at 10:10 a.m. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 15, 1954, in Sidney to Lester H. and Mildred R. (Geise) Kinninger.

Mrs. Vonderhuevel is survived by a son, Lance Vonderhuevel, and a daughter, Leslie Vonderhuevel, both at home; and three sisters, Mrs. Bill (Sharon) Kerber and Mrs. Mark (Kristi) Marcum, both of Sidney, and Mrs. Larry (Jane) Grogean of Russia.

A 1973 graduate of Fairlawn High School, Mrs. Vonderhuevel was a homemaker. She formerly worked for Dial-a-Ride, as a child-care provider, at Norcold and at Dorothy Love Retirement Community.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and Holy Angels Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, with the Rev. Earl Fernandes officiating. Burial will be at Graceland cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vonderhuevel Trust.

Delva E. Miller
Died: Thursday, November 7, 2002
Age: 86

WAPAKONETA - Delva E. Miller, 86, of Wapakoneta, sister of a Sidney woman, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Wapakoneta Manor.

She was born Feb. 6, 1916, near Rhine, the daughter of William and Christina (Dieringer) Soder.

On Oct 14, 1945, she married John W. Miller, who preceded her in death in 1985.

She is survived by a step-son, David Buecker of Bellefontaine; a niece Irene Schmerge of Sidney; a niece and caregiver, Mrs. Jack (Joann) Hindenlang of Wapakoneta.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Mrs. Miller was a private duty housekeeper and nanny. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. She was a former member of the Legion of Mary, the Resurrection Choir, St. Joseph Festival sewing committee and the Catholic Ladies of St. Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery in Wapakoneta.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m. and Monday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. at Long & Folk Chapel of Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund or the Activity Fund at Wapakoneta Manor.

Janice Lee Wildermuth
Died: Wednesday, November 6, 2002
Age: 63

WAPAKONETA - Janice Lee Wildermuth, 63, of Clay Township, Auglaize County, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at 5:35 a.m. at her home of complications from cancer.

She was born Aug. 4, 1939, in Auglaize County to William A. and Dorothy M. (Earl) Swartz.

On June 23, 1973, she married Robert E. Wildermuth.

Mrs. Wildermuth is survived by her husband; her parents, of Clay Township; and two sisters, Mrs. Lester (Joyce E.) Wildermuth of Jackson Center and Joan K. Fink of Columbus.

For 40 years, she worked as a nurse at Lima Memorial Hospital, most recently in in-service education. She served as a missionary nurse in Puerto Rico and the Philippines, and was active in the Gideons International and in prison ministry.

She attended Mount Tabor United Methodist Church and Christian Victory Tabernacle in Wapakoneta.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Norman Noble officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Tabor cemetery near Gutman.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wapakoneta chapter of Gideons International.
