Harold G. Brautigam
Died: Monday, June 16, 2003
Age: 86

Harold G. Brautigam "W8QZC", 86, 21505 Deam Road, died Monday, June 16, 2003 at The Pavilion.

He was born April 18, 1917, in Green Township, Shelby County, the son of the late Charles and Gladys (Gearhart) Brautigam.

He married Mildred G. Hancock June 14, 1941, and she survives him.

He is also survived by Dr. Darrell L. Brautigam and his wife Leslie of Stone Mountain, Ga., Elaine A. Bennett of Woodstock, Ga., Alan R. Brautigam and his wife Tammy of Acworth, Ga. and Ronald D. Brautigam and his wife Kelly of Sidney; and grandchildren William, Stephanie, Tyler, Nicholas, Ethan and Adam Brautigam and John, Jamie and Jason Bennett.

Mr. Brautigam was a farmer. He was a member of the Grange for more than 65 years, a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau, the Piqua Amateur Radio Club and the American Amateur Radio Relay League.

He also received an American Legion Citation for Meritorious Service (WWII Homeland Services) presented by Randy Martin representing the Harold Byrd Post 66 of Georgia.

A 1935 Graduate of Green Township High School, he was very active in the New Palestine Christian Church and later in the Greenview United Church of Christ.

Services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home, Sidney, by Harold Liess. Burial will be in Cedar Point cemetery in Paco.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Cromes Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Cynthia A. Huelskamp
Died: Sunday, June 15, 2003
Age: 44

Cynthia A. Huelskamp, 44, 19050 DeWeese Road, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003, at 5 a.m. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

She was born Dec. 8, 1958, in Sidney, the daughter of Richard and Valera (Brautigam) Slonkosky.

She was married to Richard E. Huelskamp on Sept. 16, 1978.

She is survived by her husband, her parents, a daughter, Staci M. Huelskamp, and a son, Christopher Huelskamp, both at home; a brother, Michael Slonkosky of Sidney; and three sisters, Mrs. Anthony (Tresa) Streacker of Findlay, Mrs. John (Pamela) Huelskamp of Sidney and Mrs. Timothy (Jacqueline) Everett of Sidney.

Mrs. Huelskamp was employed by Miami River Stone as an accountant, where she had worked for five years.

Private visitation and funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Earl Fernandes officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Point cemetery, Pasco.

Memorials may be made to National Alopecia Areata Foundation, 14 Mitchell Blvd., San Rafael, Calif. 94903-2050.

Lillian E. Gray
Died: Saturday, June 14, 2003
Age: 85

Lillian E. Gray, 85, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, in her residence in the Piqua Senior Apartments, Piqua.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral services are in care of Suber-Shively Funeral Home, Fletcher.

Marlin L. Coverstone
Died: Saturday, June 14, 2003
Age: 71

Marlin L. "Doc" Coverstone, 71, 3210 Leatherwood Creek Road, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 5:35 p.m. at his residence.

He was born May 17, 1932 in Tawawa, the son of the late Vernon and Christina (Strayer) Coverstone.

On Feb. 11, 1956, he married Mary M. Brunswick who survives.

He is also survived by sons and their wives Paul and Kellie Coverstone of Woodstock, Ga., Philip and Karen Coverstone of Russia and David and Cynthia Coverstone of Sidney; daughters and their husbands Carol and Mark DeNise of Sidney and Barbara, Neil Zumberger of Sidney and Pamela and Gary Goettemoeller of Versailles; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn Henson and Eileen Kessler, both of Sidney.

Mr. Coverstone retired in 1994 from the Ohio Operating Engineers, where he worked as a crane operator and heavy equipment operator for over 40 years. He was previously employed by Frantz Brothers, Wren Rees and Stolle Corporation. He served with the U.S. Marine Corp. from April, 1951 to August, 1957. He was currently serving as Commander of the Sidney American Legion Post 217, where he was also a member of the 40 & 8. He was a member of the Sidney Elks Lodge, Amvets, D.A.V. and the Western Ohio Detachment Marine Corps League. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, volunteering and feeding and watching birds.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Rev. Earl Fernandes officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Point cemetery in Pasco, with full military honors.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home. The American Legion will have a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Marcella L. Wagner
Died: Friday, June 13, 2003
Age: 75

PIQUA - Marcella L. Wagner, 75, died Friday, June 13, 2003 at 2:50 p.m. in the Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born in Piqua on Sept. 9, 1927, to the late Theodore and Ruth Claus Goens. She married Russell M. Wagner Jr. on Aug. 16, 1951, in Piqua and he survives.

Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Becky Horan of Englewood, Jim Butz Jr. of Piqua, Ted Butz of Piqua, Patty Lombard of Naperville, Ill., Fred Hemm Jr. of Danbury, Conn., Terry Conroy of Weston, Conn., Marcella Seaman of New Fairfield, Conn. and Nancy Galligan of Wylie, Texas. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Butz and Mary Ann Hemm.

Mrs. Wagner was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, and the Daughters of Isabella at the church. She was formally employed at Val Decker Meat Packing Company, and graduated in 1945 from Piqua Catholic High School.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, in St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Thomas J. Grilliot as celebrant. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Broadway, Piqua, Ohio 45356.

Dorothy D. Gump
Died: Friday, June 13, 2003
Age: 78

PIQUA - Dorothy D. Gump, 78, of Piqua died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Piqua Manor. She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Franklin County to Clarence W. Dean and Hazel Ferguson, who preceded her in death.

She was married to James E. Gump who also preceded her in death in 1990.

Mrs. Gump is survived by her son, Scott A. Gump of Casstown; one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Stephen Gilliam of Niceville, Fla.; and one grandchild, Sarah Gilliam of Niceville.

Mrs. Gump was a retired educator with Miami East Schools and a graduate of Ohio State University. She was a former volunteer with Piqua Memorial Hospital and the Red Cross Gray Ladies.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. Mrs. Gump will be buried at Casstown cemetery, Casstown.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 at Baird.

Martin John Wilker Jr.
Died: Thursday, June 12, 2003
Age: 51

CELINA - Martin John Wilker, Jr. 51, Hartke Road, Celina, died Thursday, June 12, 2003 at 5 a.m. of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Lawrence County, Mo.

He was born May 31, 1952, in Celina, the son of Martin and Madonna (Rammel) Wilker Sr., who survive.

On May 22, 1976, he married Eileen Baltes in Frenchtown, and she survives in Celina.

He is also survived by two sons, Joseph Wilker and Andrew Wilker, both of Celina; two daughters, Katherin and Ryan Huff of Sidney and Deborah Wilker of Celina; grandson Austin Huff and soon-to-be Baby Huff; in-laws Pete and Rose (Reitz) Baltes of Versailles; brothers William and Marlene Wilker of North Star, Luke and Elaine Wilker of St. Henry, Herbert and Doris Wilker of St. Sebastian; sister, Esther and Tom Beyke of St. Henry; brothers-in-law, Anthony and Monica Baltes of Versailles and Michael and Mary Eileen Baltes of Doylestown, Penna.; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Ned Hemmelgarn of Celina, Jane and Ned Kleinhenz of Beavercreek and Donna and Jack Matlak of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Mr. Wilker Jr. was employed at Tuente Livestock/Trucking in Osgood as a truck driver. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. President of CCD Board in St. Henry Cluster, St. Lawrence Men's Society and president of the Parish Council. He was leader of Boy Scout Troop 101, St. Henry. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1972-1974. He was past commander of Maria Stein American Legion. He was past president of the MS County Fest, member of Tractor Square Dancing team. He was a 1970 graduate of Celina High School and 1972 graduate of Miami Jacobs College.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Hoying officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius cemetery in Carthagena. The Maria Stein American Legion will conduct military services.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilker Family Education Fund.

Shields Franklin Todd Sr.
Died: Thursday, June 12, 2003
Age: 88

URBANA - Shields Franklin Todd Sr., 88, died June 12, 2003.

He was born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. April 15, 1915, the son of the late William and Emma Todd.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ada, and children, April (John) Reed, Shields (Judi) Todd, Bonnie Todd and Suzette Young (Lawrence Riddle). Grandad will be missed by six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by a brother, John Todd, and sister, Robbie Elsass and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Todd was preceded in death by brothers Chester Todd and William Todd.

He lived a full and active life with numerous friends and co-workers and loved and adored longtine friends and neighbors Glen and Kathryn Rutan.

A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, June 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the Mercy Hospital Chapel in Urbana.

The family requests cards of remembrance and visits to Ada Todd, a resident of the McAuley Center, in lieu of flowers.

Charles C. Rothwell
Died: Monday, September 15, 2003
Age: 61

MINSTER - Charles C. Rothwell, 61, formerly of 281 N. Frankfort St., died suddenly on Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at 4:15 a.m. in Otterbein Lebanon.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Hogenkamp Funeral Home with the Rev. John Schmiesing officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Jack D. Cheadle

Jack D. Cheadle, 71, of Tipp City, died Sunday morning at Harborside Nursing Center, Troy. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Walnut Street, Troy. Officiation will be Jack's son Pastor Jeff Cheadle. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery, Tipp City. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City and one hour prior to the service at the church. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County or the American Cancer Society.

Kathryn L. Riggleman
Died: Sunday, September 14, 2003
Age: 81

PIQUA - Kathryn L. Riggleman, 81, formerly of Minster, more recently of 1123 Van Way, Piqua, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in her residence. She was born in Springfield on Dec. 15, 1921, to the late Allen and Lillian Burks Willoughby. She married Paul L. Riggleman and he preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. James R. Christy officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Visitation will be on today from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Marcella E. Tontrup
Died: Sunday, September 14, 2003
Age: 83

NEW BREMEN - Marcella "Sally" E. Tontrup, 83, of 226 E. Monroe St., New Bremen, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at approximately 8 a.m. in her residence.

Funeral services will be on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home with the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will be in the German Protestant cemetery.
