Alice Bryant Lee

Age: 71
Alice Bryant Lee, 71, 205 J. Shelton Road, Crab Orchard, Ky., formerly of Loveland, Ohio, died Tuesday morning June 3, 2003 at the Rockcastle County Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ky.
She was the widow of Johnny B. Lee who preceded her in death July 7, 2000.
Mrs. Lee was born Nov. 14, 1931 in Whitley City, Ky., the daughter of the late Andy and Clara Mae Bryant. She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Jenny) Mooneyham and Mary Worley, both of Falmouth, Ky.; seven sisters, Mary Leona Baker of Sidney, Mrs. Lee (Sibbie) Roach of Taylor Mill, Ky., Mrs. Sterling (Sallie) Partin of Inglis, Fla., Mrs. Bob (Myrtle) Low of Crab Orchard, Ky., Mrs. Johnny (Flonnie) Shelton of Crab Orchard, Ky., Mrs. Eulas (Joyce Ethel) Ball of Fairborn and Truie Hanson of Alexindria, Ky.
She is also survived by six brothers Bob Bryant of Piqua, A.C. Bryant of Inglis, Fla., Louie Bryant of Sidney, Jim (Pam) Bryant of Piqua, Ray (Peggie) Bryant of Donell, Fla., Charles (Brenda) Bryant of Piqua; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Clara Mae Bryant; her first husband, Jim Raisor; a son, Harold Raisor; four brothers, Andy Jr., Thurman, John Melt and Eugene Bryant; and two sisters, Lora and Irene Bryant.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003 at the McKnight Funeral Home Chapel in Crab Orchard, Ky. by the Rev. Don Howard. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003.
Her brothers will be pallbearers.
William E. Hines
Died: Sunday, June 01, 2003
Age: 82
TROY - William E. Hines, 82, of Troy, died at 5:34 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Upper Valley Medical Center.
He was born July 6, 1920 in Buckland, to the late John and Verda (Place) Hines. He married
Agnes L. (Nester) of 56 years, she survives.
Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Lowery of Englewood, Jane and Stan Kriesberg of Troy, Kay and Mark Allen of Troy and Carol and Gene Milota of Troy; son and daughter-in-law, John and Ruth Hines of Stevensville, Mich.; brothers and sisters, Richard and Betty Hines of Wapakoneta, Herbert and Midge Hines of Wapakoneta and Marjorie Kohlreiser of Wapakoneta; and 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Mary.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Wapakoneta, for 58 years and a lifetime member of the Elks on Troy for 54 years. He was a member of the American Legion and a World War U.S. Army veteran.
He was a graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta and he furthered his education at a Cincinnati trade school for printing. He retired in 1985 from the Troy Daily News as the Retail Advertising manager. He was the former manager of the Wapakoneta Daily News and formerly employed with Lima Citizen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Brunner officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Troy. A special Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Rosary service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. V.F.W. Honor Guard will be held at the graveside.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Baird Funeral Home, Troy.

John J. Schmidt

Age: 92
John J. Schmidt, 92, formerly of the Anna area, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster.
He was born April 13, 1911, in Fort Loramie, the son of William and Frances (Meiners) Schmidt.
He was married
June 18, 1935, to Clementine H. Boeke. She died Aug. 25, 1984.
He is survived by four children, Janet Hoying of Anna, Kenneth Schmidt of Sidney, Mrs. Ralph (Karen) Balster of Mesa, Ariz., and Gerald Schmidt of Botkins; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers and two grandsons.
Mr. Schmidt was a retired farmer. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCartyville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Patrick Welsh officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart cemetery in McCartyville.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home.

Elizabeth C. Jenkins

Age: 91
Elizabeth C. Jenkins, 91, of 1567 Garbry Road, Piqua, died on Sunday, June 1, 2003 at 12:45 p.m. in the Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born in Piqua on Nov. 27, 1911 to the late Ernest and Gertrude Crowley Hirt. She married
James P. Jenkins Sr. on Oct. 3, 1934 in Piqua; he preceded her in death in 1984.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Janet A. and William Jess of Piqua and Joan M. Huelskamp of Houston; four sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas F. and June Jenkins of Piqua, James P. and Mary Jenkins, Jr. of Warrenton, Ore., Donald J. and Linda Jenkins of Jacksonville, Fla. and John W. and Beverly Jenkins of Englewood; 21 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Mikesell of Piqua; and a brother, Robert Hirt of Piqua.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Walling and Martha Hampshire, and a brother, Richard Hirt.
Mrs. Jenkins was a 1929 graduate of St. Mary High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar Society, P.T.A.'s and active in the Miami County Right To Life organization.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 in St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas J. Grilliot and Anselm Boeke as Con-celebrants. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home where a prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m.

Mabel A. Comer

Age: 93
WAPAKONETA - Mabel A. Comer, 93, of Wapakoneta, formerly of Anna, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at 6:30 a.m. at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born April 24, 1910, in Anna, the daughter of George Albert and Nora Jane (Young) Reeves, who preceded her in death.
On Oct. 21, 1930, she married
Nelson J. Comer, Sr., who died Dec. 8, 1981.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Glenna Comer Slusher of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren Linda and husband Richard Goodwin; Donald and wife Beverly Comer and Gregory Comer, all of Wapakoneta, also three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Nelson J. Comer Jr.; a daughter Verna Mae Comer and a brother, W. Russell Reeves.
Mrs. Comer had been a beautician, and had been an operator at Fisher Cheese Company. She was a homemaker.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev. Jeff Rollison officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jerry Lochard
Died: Wednesday, June 11, 2003
Age: 65
PICKERINGTON - Jerry Lochard, loving husband and dad, age 65, of Pickerington, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Grant Medical Center.
He was retired from Gregory Trucking Co., Ashville, was a former 30-year employee of Brown Steel Galvanizing Co., member of New Zion United Methodist Church and former Sunday school teacher, was active in scouting, enjoyed hunting and fishing, graduate of Jackson Center High School and Columbus Business University, and also served in U.S. Army Reserves at Fort Hayes.
His most favorite title and position though was being "Grandpa."
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Dana, his children, Jason (Cindi) Lochard, of Hilliard, Jennifer (Chris) Moore, of Cincinnati, and Josh (Mandy) Lochard, of Gainesville, Fla.; three grandchildren Jordan, Jake and Isaac; a sister, Karen (Tom) Woodruff, of Jackson Center; and a brother, Tom (Ginny) Lochard, of Maplewood.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Plough, and sisters-in-law, Mary Plough, both of Marion, and Charlotte (Ken) Suda, Peoria, Ill. Aunt Alma Jane Hall, of Sidney, several nieces and nephews and his best friend, Dick Roe, of Pickerington.
Jerry was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Kathleen Viola Lochard, and his parents, John and Viola Lochard.
Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 550 Hill Road North (Ohio 256), Pickerington, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at New Zion United Methodist Church, 10991 Snyder Church Road, Baltimore, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, with Pastor Cheryl Foulk officiating.
Interment will be in Union Evangelical cemetery, Baltimore.
Friends who wish may contribute to the Kidney Foundation or the New Zion United Methodist Church, in Jerry's memory.

Services were today at 2 p.m. in the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home. Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery in Milford, Ill.
Francis O. Asher
Died: Tuesday, June 10, 2003
Age: 82
COVINGTON - Francis O. Asher, 82, of Covington, formerly of Piqua and Jasper, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003.
He was born March 2, 1921, in Piqua to the late Clarence R. and Ruth (Arnett) Asher.
He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Russell (Jeanie) Langston of Covington and Mrs. Thomas (Helen) Poling of Sidney; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Hilda Asher of Piqua and Ronald and Elaine Asher of Orlando, Fla.; and a half sister, Clara Swabb of Tipp City. There are also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur, Robert and LeRoy Asher and Clarence (Doc) Asher Jr.
Francis was a gunner's mate third class in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He retired from Hartzell Veneer in 1981 after 33 years as assistant superintendent. He served on the YMCA Health Center Committee and was a past member of the YMCA's Membership Drive Team. He was also a member of the National Horseshoe Pitching Association (NHPA) since 1969 and won his first tournament at the age of 12. He was past president of the Piqua and Greenville clubs. In 1972 he was elected secretary-treasurer of the Ohio State Horseshoe Association and in 1975 he received the NHPA Achievement Award. He was in more than 400 tournaments, with an average 43.7 points. He helped establish clubs in Piqua, Troy, West Liberty, Indian Lake and Greene County. He served as regional director in Ohio and held a lifetime membership in the NHPA.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Coy officiating. Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Piqua Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.
Helen Marie Apple
Died: Tuesday, June 10, 2003
Age: 75
RUSSIA - Helen Marie Apple, 75, of Russia, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at her home.
Helen was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Bradford to the late Herschel and Lavina (Hartle) Abernathy. She was a graduate of Bradford High School, class of 1946, was owner and operator of the Whistle Stop Restaurant, Bradford, was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, and member of the AMVETS Post No. 66 Ladies Auxiliary, Covington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard J. Apple in 1972; two sisters, Doris Fair and Lila Delzeith; and three brothers, Richard, Paul and Tom Abernathy.
Helen is survived by her three daughters, Tonda Apple-Ramirez and husband, Juan D. or Russa, Linda Thomas and husband, Jack of Covington, Rolanda Kremer and husband, Tony of Bradford; four grandchildren, Doug Thomas and wife, Lisa of Sidney, Krista Buroker and husband, Mark of Troy, Michelle Dieperink and husband, Brian of Covington, Richard Kremer of Bradford; three great-grandchildren, Garren Buroker, Breann Dieperink and Jenna Thomas; sister, Nancy Miller of California; two brothers, Bill Abernathy and wife, Janet of Delaware, Joe Abernathy and wife, Faye of Bradford; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty and Don Magoto of Bradford, Harold and Maxine Apple of Bloomer; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Friedens Lutheran Church, 11038 Versailles Road, with the Rev. Ruth Keck officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Versailles. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford.
Ada Mae Marlow

Age: 68
TROY - Ada Mae Marlow, 68, of Troy, passed away Tuesday, at 3:50 p.m. June 10, 2003 in the Upper Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Miami County on June 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Carl Jefferson and Hazel Mae (Idle) Kelley. She married
Delmar "Gene" Marlow on Aug. 2, 1957 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1999. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Rick (Becky) Bradley of Georgetown, Texas, Mrs. Gary (Kim) Sexton of Fairborn, Mrs. David (Jeanne) Johnson of Universal City, Texas; eight grandchildren, Sean and Nick Bradley and Angel Blackburn of Texas, Lynn and Krissy Sudduth of Piqua, Jenny, Nicole, and Jordan Johnson of Texas; and two stepgrandchildren, Heather and Katie Sexton of Fairborn. She also has five great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild; a sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Matthew (Mary) Wilson of Troy; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl "K.P." Kelley, and Danny Kelley of Covington. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and one special nephew, Mike Rohrer of Troy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Carla Jean Kelley and Sandy Kelley.
Ada was a graduate of Piqua Central High School. She worked as a caregiver for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 13 in Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher with the Rev. Bonita Wood of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
