Josephine Adams Derryberry

CRIDERSVILLE - Josephine "Jo" Adams Derryberry, 81, of Cridersville, died at 10:52 p.m. May 29, 2003, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Angier, N.C., to Joseph J. and Sallie C. Adams.
She married
Quentin M. Derryberry Sr. on Oct. 7, 1945, and he preceded her in death Jan. 24, 1994.
Survivors include three sons and spouses, Quentin M. and Trudy Derryberry II of Sidney, Wayne A. Derryberry and Donna Smith of Beavercreek, and Jon C. Derryberry and Robin LaFountain of Wapakoneta; two daughters and spouses, Gail Lee Derryberry and Don Ingle of Newport, N.C., and Joan Derryberry and Ray York of Granville; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbert "Gabe" Adams of Angier; and five sisters, Ida F. Milkey of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Joyce A. Boore of Fallston, Md., Alice Matthews of Fuqua-Varina, N.C., Margie Jeffries of Angier and Sally Durree of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a half-brother, Joseph Wallace Adams.
Mrs. Derryberry was preceded in death by four brothers, Wade H. Adams, Worth C. Adams, Winfield J. Adams, Wyatt A. Adams, and a sister, Edna A. Brown.
Mrs. Derryberry was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lima, a life member of Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a 50-year member of United Methodist Women and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 16, Lima, a member of Christian Comrades Sunday school class, the church choir and Allen County Bar Association Auxiliary. Mrs. Derryberry had been a homemaker.
Funeral services will begin Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Lima, with Dr. Daniel L. Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m., Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, and Monday for one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to Grace United Methodist Church Choir Fund or to Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Fund.
Cleo Bernice Hallows

AVON LAKE - Cleo Bernice "Bunny" (Robinson) Hallows, 82, of Avon Lake, formerly of Piqua, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003 at St. John West Shore Hospital. Mrs. Hallows was born Jan. 15, 1921 in Oswego, Kan., and had lived in Avon Lake the past 20 years.
Mrs. Hallows is survived by a daughter, Dianne Rekstis (Jack) of Bay Village; and a son, L. Craig Hallows of Columbus. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Kimberly, Jacqueline, Ryan, Christian, Daniele; and two great-grandchildren, Kiefer and Julia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C.; and parents, Kenny C. and Vivian (nee Williams) Robinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. today at St. Rapheal Catholic Church, 525 Dover Center Road, Bay Village. The Rev. Timothy Gareau of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph cemetery, Avon. Arrangements are by the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, Avon.
Pauline Bertha Caldwell

Age: 88
PIQUA - Pauline Bertha Caldwell, 88, formerly of Covington, and then more recently of 1851 Grant St., Piqua, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, in the Covington Care Center.
She was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Piqua to the late Warren and Margaret (Elicker) Atkinson. She married
Charles Omer Caldwell April 5, 1934, in Piqua; he preceded her in death in 1975.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Shroyer of Troy and Patty and James Bayman of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Larry and Becky Caldwell of Covington; grandchildren Scott Shroyer, Kimberly Edmisten, Julia Wenrick, Michael Bayman, Todd Caldwell, Clinton Caldwell and Wendy Caldwell Supinger; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Rowell of Piqua; and brother, James Atkinson of Fort Loramie.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dean Shroyer; granddaughter, Lisa Bayman; brothers, Bud, Marvin and Jackie Atkinson; and sister, Dorothy Long.
She was a past member of the Order of the Easter Star in Covington. She enjoyed reading and playing cards with her friends. But what she valued most in her life was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Pastor Robert Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow in the Miami Memorial Park cemetery.
Pearson-Jackson Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Covington Care Center Resident's Activity Fund.

DEGRAFF - Clara Mae Foster, 84, of Conover, formerly of Quincy, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at 12:30 p.m. at Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty.
She was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Quincy, the daughter of the late Harley W. and Bessie Ellen (Allen) McFarlin.
She married
Archie L. Foster, June 1, 1951, in Mississippi and he preceded her in death Dec. 27, 1990.
Mrs. Foster is survived by three sons and their wives, Jerry L. and Pat Foster of Bellefontaine, Bill and Paula Foster of Quincy and Larry E. and Pat Foster of Sidney; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Judy) Thompson of Conover; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Ernest "Jiggs" McFarlin of Sidney; and many nieces and nephews.
A homemaker, Mrs. Foster was a member of the Church of Christ in Port Jefferson. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home by John Willbur and Troy Gilmore. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Quincy.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in DeGraff.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tricare Hospice.
Thomas Schmidt

Thomas "Tom" Urban Schmidt, 61, of Lafayette, La., formerly of Sidney, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 5, 1942, in Sidney, the son of Beth Ellen Gerstner Schmidt and Melvin Andrew Schmidt.
He is survived by his wife, Raylene Nelson Schmidt, of Lafayette; four sons, Thomas Nelson Schmidt and wife Leigh Anne of Jackson, Miss., Timothy Wayne Schmidt and wife Christy of Mandeville, La., Kevin Ray Schmidt of Murrieta, Calif., and Troy Allen Schmidt and wife Jamie of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Tamra Rae Schmidt of Lafayette; two brothers, Arthur M. Schmidt and wife Patricia "Pat" of Sidney, and Frederick "Fred" M. Schmidt and wife Sandi of Newport News, Va.; a sister, Teresa "Terri" S. Campbell and husband Duane of Beaver, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Angelique and Timothy "Jacob, " as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin Andrew Schmidt.
Mr. Schmidt was secretary/treasurer for B.F. Trappey's from 1980 to 1993. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. He was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana-Lafayette) and earned a master's degree in business (MBA). He was also a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. At the time of his death, he was employed at Pinhook Road Wal-Mart store, assisting in various departments where his help could always be depended on.
He was a former resident of New Iberia, La., for 29 years and a resident of Lafayette for the past three years.
Funeral services are planned for today, May 31, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Broussard, La., with the Rev. Herman Barsen officiating. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends was Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at David Funeral Home, 316 Youngsville Highway, Lafayette. A rosary was said at 7 p.m. Visitation also was today from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
Clarence G. Mattox

Clarence G. Mattox, 78, 2805 Wapakoneta Ave. Lot 43, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Urbana, the son of Walter and Hazel (Eaton) Mattox.
He married
Marcella J. Simes, Dec. 30, 1945, and she survives along with four daughters, Mrs. Gregory (Sherrell) Clifford of Brooksville, Fla., Mrs. Roger (Linda) Markley of Anna, Mrs. Paul (Marlareena) Gross of Sidney and Mrs. Michael (Poleena) McPheron of Lima; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Denton J. Mattox, and his parents.
Mr. Mattox was employed by Monarch Machine Tool for 40 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a life member of Sidney American Legion Post 217, a member of the Sidney VFW, the Shelby County Senior Citizens and the Senior Swingers.
He was a member of the First Church of God in Sidney and the All Faith Church in lake City, Fla.
The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home with the Rev. Tod Huston officiating. Burial will be in Shelby Memory Gardens, Sidney, with full military honors.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 until the hour of the service at the funeral home. The Sidney American Legion will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby County Kidney Center.

John A. "Jack" Dziech on June 1, 1946, in Cincinnati; he preceded her in death on March 23, 2002.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. James R. Christy officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
