EBERLE
Juanita Virginia Eberle, 84, of Van Wert, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born May 24, 1920, in Rose Hill, Va., the daughter of the late James G. and Virdie (Taylor) Lee. On October 3, 1942, in Camp Swift, Texas, she married Charles "Chuck" Eberle Sr., who survives in Van Wert.
Mrs. Eberle, affectionately known as "granny" to her family and friends, was a homemaker and, during World War II, was a crew leader at the Casad Depot Prisoner of War Camp in New Haven, Ind. She attended the former Grace Church in Middle Point, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 5803 and American Legion Auxiliary 178, both in Van Wert, the former Readmore ladies bowling team, the 1st Corps Civil War Living History Group of Northwest Ohio and was an avid Bingo player.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Carole Conn of Van Wert; two sons, Charles "Chuck" (Shelly) Eberle of Van Wert and Richard (Clara) Eberle Sr. of Middle Point; one sister, Mary (Harold) Hoffman of Decatur, Ind.; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Herman "Slim" Lee, Charles Richard Lee, Harl W. "Hack" Lee and Roland "Ab" Lee, and three sisters, Martha Belle Lee, Pauline Lopshire and Ruby Akins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

HEMKER
Carl Aloysius Hemker, 78, of Delphos, died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at his residence.
He was born June 30, 1926, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Wrasman) Hemker. On August 25, 1951, he married Dolores Hohlbein, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Hemker began work as a mechanic at the William Bishop Studebaker Agency in 1950 and continued at the same location in 1953 when the dealership became Hanshumaker Motor Sales and, in 1987, when it became Terry Swaney Motor Sales Inc. He was a member of St. John the Evangelistic Catholic Church in Delphos, the Knights of Columbus and the Allen County Right to Life. He was a World War II veteran, loved cars, was an avid boater and water skier and loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Diane (Michael) Bendele of Delphos, Susan (Michael) Scheckelhoff of Pendelton, Ind., David Hemker of Delphos, Randall (Jane Morrman) Hemker of Delphos, Roland (Michelle Mueller) Hemker of Oakwood and Donna (Gary) Maas and Barbara (Charles) Klausing, both of Delphos; five sisters, Mary (Gilbert) Pohl, Catherine (Sister Mary Joseleen) SND, Ruth Baldauf, Clara (Joseph) Alvarado and Anna (Daniel) Baldauf; four brothers, Paul (Rita) Hemker, Herman (Alvera) Hemker, Leo (Lydia) Hemker and Ralph (Yvonne) Hemker, and 22 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at St. John the Evangelistic Catholic Church in Delphos, with Father Thomas Gorman officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Delphos, with military graveside rites performed by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake ceremony will be conducted 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary service held at 7 p.m. that day.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's church in Delphos.

BURRIS
Hugh Franklin Burris, 101, of 446 Dickinson Ave., Van Wert, died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Lincolnway Home in Ridge Township.
He was born June 28, 1903, in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late John Addison and Julia Florence (Shepherd) Burris. On May 16, 1931, he married Martha Muriel Oldham, who died December 25, 1984.
Mr. Burris worked for 10 years for the Van Wert County Highway Department, a year for Willis Overland in Toledo and a year at the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Paper Box Factory; two years for the New York Central Railroad; 25½ years at the former Continental Can Company (now Greif Brothers) and over 15 years for Brookside Dairy in Van Wert. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert and a member of the 25 Year Veterans Club of Continental Can Company.
Survivors include a son, John F. Burris of Springfield; three grandchildren, Cindy (Don) Baker of Rio Rico, Ariz., Tim (Teri) Burris of Defiance and John Michael Burris of Springfield, and eight great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Amber, Ashley, Aaron and Josh Baker of Rio Rico, Ariz., and Brandon, Justin and Dustin Burris of Defiance.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, John W. Burris, Elmer E. Burris, Edmond E. Burris and Byron W. Burris, and three sisters, Norma Margaret Fisher, Hazel Florence Burris and Amanda L. Brown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Timothy Burden officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
Calling hours are 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Trinity United Methodist Church or a charity of donor's choice.

SHERRICK
Ruby Grace Sherrick, 96, of Phoenix, Ariz., and formerly of Delphos, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, at Cactus Glen Care Home in Scotsdale, Ariz.
She was born October 14, 1907, in Allen County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Willard and Ethel (Sours) Johnson. She married Ellis R. Sherrick, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sherrick was a homemaker and enjoyed being with her family.
Survivors include a son, Lendell (Martha J.) Sherrick of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Marvin "Jim" (Wynoma) Johnson of Lindale, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Janice Sherrick and Eileen Sherrick; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert R., Dale M. and Warren C. Sherrick; a brother, Carl Johnson; one sister, Bernice Brotherwood, and three grandchildren, Jill, James and Mark Sherrick.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, with the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 6, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

STAGNER
Charles Medford Stagner, 90, of Van Wert, died at 8:13 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.
He was born March 12, 1914, in Cincinnati, the son of the late Charles and Ollie Stagner. On March 31, 1934, he married Lucille L. Wilkins, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Stagner was a retired firefighter, and had been employed by Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Fire Department. He was a member of First Friends Church in Van Wert and Wesleyan Holiness Church in Fairborn.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Job Medford (Nila) Stagner of Van Wert; two daughters, Charlotte L. Robinette of Englewood and Delores A. (Frank) O'Halloran of Beavercreek; a sister-in-law, Clara Stagner of Christianburg; six grandchildren, Joy Dudley, Angela Hancock, Alicia Waymire, Bruce Long, Carla Alvarez and Ryan O'Halloran, and three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew and Alicia.
He was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 9, at First Friends Church, with the Rev. Keith Stuck officiating, followed by a second service at 2 p.m. at Wesleyan Holiness Church in Fairborn. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery in Byron.
Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, and from 1 p.m. until the time of services Friday at Wesleyan Holiness Church in Fairborn.
Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Missions in Bedford, Ind.

PIERCE
Maria J. Pierce, 32, of Convoy, died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in an automobile accident at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ohio 49.
She was born August 31, 1971, in Lima, the daughter of Norbert "Nub" and Rita (Ernst) Schnipke, both of whom survive in Ottoville. On September 7, 1991, she married Randy Pierce, who survives at home.
Mrs. Pierce was marketing supervisor for Central Mutual Insurance Company in Van Wert. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, belonged to the Insurance Conference Planners, was treasurer of the Convoy Sports Center Board and was on the Convoy Youth Football Association board.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by a son, Steven Pierce, at home; one daughter, Angela Pierce, at home, and four brothers, Michael (Daphne) Schnipke of Ney, Rodney Schnipke and Christopher (Teresa) Schnipke, both of Ottoville, and Terry (Theresa) Schnipke of Columbus Grove.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bradley Schnipke.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Charles Obinwa and Deacon Andy McMahon officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.
Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home in Convoy, where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 that evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

ROGGENKEMPER
Robert A. Roggenkemper, 93, of Van Wert, died at 12:28 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
He was born March 5, 1911, in Van Wert, the son of the late Harry J. and Gertrude L. (Rickets) Roggenkemper. On February 17, 1945, he married Grace L. Moltz, who also preceded him in death.
Mr. Roggenkemper was a retired manager for United Telephone Company in Van Wert. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert and was a life member of Van Wert Elks Lodge 1197. He was a former member of the Van Wert Lions Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca (Allan) Runser of Van Wert and Barbara (Jim) Hitt of Upper Arlington; two sisters, Rose Ann Horine of Van Wert and Jean Barrientos of Sun City Center, Fla.; five grandchildren, Charles (Amanda) Runser Jr., Jennifer (Mike) Evans, Debbie Hitt, Cyndie (Randy) Sheets and Christine (Dennis) Amely, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Jay.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Dillon Staas officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Van Wert Area Visiting Nurses-Hospice.
