HUMPHREYS
David W. Humphreys, 84, of Gomer, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos.
He was born October 14, 1920, in Allen County, Ohio, the son of the late Walter and Verona (Jones) Humphreys. On July 11, 1942, he married Mary Ellen Renner, who died January 1, 2005, after 62 years of marriage.
Mr. Humphreys was a self-employed farmer, a bus driver for Gomer Local Schools and was employed by Ford Motor Company in Lima. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a graduate of Gomer High School and was an active member in community activities, including Gomer United Church of Christ, the Gomer Dads Club and the Gomer Local Board of Education. He was a 50-year member of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Order of Eastern Star, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elks lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Welsh Society of Northwest Ohio.
Survivors include a son, John Humphreys of Gomer; one daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Sakemiller of Delphos; Three grandsons, Scott (Lisa) Sakemiller of Lima, Ryan (Samantha) Sakemiller of Cincinnati and Aaron Humphreys of Gomer, and four great-grandsons, Nick, Will and Austin Sakemiller of Lima and Andrew Sakemiller of Cincinnati.|
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Humphreys, and four sisters, Ethel Merriman, Eldora Smith, Edith Micha and Dorothy Humphreys.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, with Rev. Brian Knoderer officiating. Burial will be in Carmen Cemetery in Gomer.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at an hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gomer United Church of Christ or the Welsh Museum of Gomer.

WASSINK
Scott Edwin Wassink, 44, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at his residence.
He was born November 26, 1960, in Springfield, the son of Ruth (Myers) Wassink of Elida and the late Joe Wassink. He married Julia E. Hittle, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Wassink was a custodian for the Elida Middle School. He was an active member of the Maranatha Assembly of God church in Wapakoneta, a member of the Steel Workers Union and a graduate of Elida High School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Benjamin Scott Wassink, Michael Isaiah Wassink and Andrew Joseph Wassink, all of Wapakoneta; one daughter, Suzanna Mae Wassink of Wapakoneta; a sister, Pamela Jo (Wassink) Logan of Dunedin, Fla.; one brother, Joseph Anthony (Michele) Wassink of Lima, and several nieces and nephews, Jennifer Varela, Lindsay Logan, Jeffrey Logan, Lincoln Wassink, Micah Wassink and Kaylee Wassink.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at First Assembly of God Church in Delphos, with the Rev. Joel Chambers officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Elida.
Calling hours are 6-8 pm. Monday, May 2, and 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Harter & Schier Memorial Chapel in Delphos, and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mr. Wassink’s children for a scholarship fund.

ROBERTS
Marylena L. Roberts, 89, of Gomer, died at 9 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Lima Convalescent Home.
She was born March 31, 1916, in Delphos, the daughter of the late George and Katherine (Radell) Stirn. On October 6, 1936, she married Floyd Roberts, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker, a member of Gomer United Church of Christ and the Circle and the Young At Heart senior citizens group. She enjoyed reading, needlework, gardening, jokes, her dogs and spending time with her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Darlene (Don) Montooth of Elida, Diane (Ferris) Croy of Fort Wayne, Ind., Nancy (Brian) Foye of Houston, Texas, and Linda (Jeff Fischer) Zerbe of Blue Springs, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Lowell Stirn; five sisters, Alta Stirn, Thelma Stirn, Lorene Buettner, Ruth Fisher and Dorothy Fritz; a granddaughter, Jill Lloyd Nichols, and a granddaughter-in-law, Jayne Croy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, with the Rev. Brian Knoderer officiating. Burial will be in Pike Run Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, and an hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

DUDGEON
Mildred Irene Dudgeon, 91, of Edgewater, Fla., died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at her residence.
She was born June 12, 1913, in Fort Jennings, the daughter of the late John Milton and Stella V. (Smith) Berryhill. On September 7, 1935, she married Kennard N. Dudgeon, who died May 25, 1997.
Mrs. Dudgeon was a housewife.
Survivors includes several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Leo and Raymond Berryhill, and four sisters, Flossie Mae Miller, Goldie Hurlbert, Charlotte Amstutz and Ruth Swartz.
A graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 5, at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos, with the Rev. Jim Menke officiating.
There will be no visitation.

GRAHAM
Merwin D. Graham, 78, of Piqua and formerly of Payne, went home to be with his heavenly father at 5:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was born July 24, 1926, in Pisgah, W.Va., the son of the late Clinton and Virginia Maude (Christopher) Graham. On December 24, 1952, he married Alverta Durst, who survives in Piqua.
Mr. Graham had formerly worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Harter Corporation in Van Wert. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Payne and was a past master and member of Flat Rock Lodge 580, Free & Accepted Masons, in Payne and was a Shriner. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943-1946 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He was an avid coin collector and gardener who loved to tend his flowers and orchids.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Diane (John) Hearne of Piqua and Maudie (Tom) Wingo of Van Wert; five grandchildren, Michelle Barlow, Chad Fisher, Natalie Fisher, Brittany Fisher and Olivia Wingo, and two great-grandchildren, Brant Barlow and Madison Fisher.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Cecil, Dallas, Harlan and Warren Graham, and three sisters, Zelda Keener, Isabel Bayles and Beatrice Cundiff.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 Saturday, May 14, at Oak Grove Mennonite Church in Grantsville, Md., with the Rev. Tim Fetterly officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grantsville, where military graveside services will also be performed.
Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:45 that evening, and 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville, Md.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners.

ARMY
Bernard W. "Bud" Army, 79, of 10357 Van Wert-Decatur Road, Van Wert, died at 10:02 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.
He was born June 7, 1925, in Cass County, Ind., the son of the late Bernard E. and Theresa (Sievers) Army.
Mr. Army retired from Chrysler-Amplex in Van Wert with more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Ohio City United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Lima South High School. A veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, he was also a member of Harvey Lewis American Legion Post 346 in Ohio City. He was a former member of Eureka Lodge 592, Free & Accepted Masons.
Survivors include three sons, B. Bruce Army and Clark Lynn (Patricia) Army, both of Van Wert, and Michael W. Army of Oregon; three daughters, Cheryl K. (Dr. Dennis) Miller of Van Wert, Mickey J. (Kelly) McConahay of Ohio City and Sandra Kennedy of Lima; three brothers, Don (Barbara) Army of Windsor Locks, Conn., Kedar (Mary Lou) Army of Van Wert and Bob (Barbara) Army of Cridersville; three sisters, Margy (Wilbur) Camper and Carol (Bill) Horvath, both of Lima, and Dora (Howard) Spallinger of Engelwood, Fla., and 11 grandchildren, Amanda (Adam) Reardon, Chelsea Army, Joshua Army, Zachary Army and Bethany Army, Shea Lyn McConahay, Martin McConahay and Casey McConahay and Megan Miller, Matt Miller and Jason Miller.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William E. "Bill" Army, who died May 8, 2002.
Private family services will be held at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Mike Waldron of Ohio City United Methodist Church officiating.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio City United Methodist Church.

HOERSTEN
Rudolph J. "Rudy" Hoersten, 88, of Delphos, died at 4:44 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos.
He was born December 6, 1916, in Putnam County, the son of the late George J. and M. Frederica (Fischer) Hoersten. On May 8, 1946, he married Florence E. Fischer, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Hoersten retired from Suever Stone Company and was a farmer, a custodian at CK of O of Landeck and a caretaker at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Landeck. He was a member of C K of O of Landeck, Knights of Columbus in Delphos, a past member of Delphos Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471 and a member of the Holy Name Society of Landeck and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Arnold "Arnie" (Rosanne) Hoersten and Charles "Chuck" (Brenda) Hoersten, both of Delphos; two daughters, Bea (David) Schnipke of Delphos and Dorothy "Dottie" (Lin Kimler) Hoersten of Columbus; one brother, Arthur (Thelma) Hoersten of Middle Point; a sister-in-law, Velma Hoersten of Delphos; an aunt, Mary Schmitz of Delphos, and 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Nathan, Aaron and Lauren Schnipke and Amanda, Curtis, Timothy, Bryan, Chad and Lindsey Hoersten.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Helen (Schmitz) Hoersten; two children, Carl J. Hoersten and Eileen R. Hoersten; two brothers, Harry and Othmar Hoersten, and two sisters, Alma Lauf and Mildred Wieging.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck, with Father John Fleck and Father Jim Wieging officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Landeck.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake service will be conducted at 7:30 that evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church, Vancrest Health Care Center Activity Fund or The Salvation Army.
