GEDEON
Lawrence "Bud" Gedeon, 74, of Delphos, died at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born March 13, 1929, in Parma, the son of the late Walter and Anna (Nowak) Gedeon. On May 2, 1953, he married Lois Branch, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Gedeon retired from State Chemical in 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea and was a life member of the American Legion. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus (serving as grand knight and district deputy-fourth degree). He was instrumental in starting a junior bowling league in Delphos, was an avid bowler himself and was a member of the bowling hall of fame. He was a past member of the Lions and Kiwanis clubs and started, and was serving as president of, Shepherds of Christ Prayer Group. He was a 1947 graduate of Parma High School.
Survivors include a son, Mark (Judy) Gedeon of Delphos; two daughters, Debra (Ed) Steinberger of Waynesfield and Luann (Vince) Woods of Cincinnati; two brothers, Ray (Ann) Gedeon of Parma and Walter (Ann) Gedeon of Toledo; two sisters, LaVerne Sepich of Parma and Rosemary (Patrick) Corrigan of Cleveland, and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BOOK
T. Russell Book, 86, of Rockford, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2003, at The Laurels of Shane Hill nursing home, where he had been a patient.
He was born June 13, 1916, in Vinton County, the son of the late Asa L. and Martha L. "Lula" (Raver) Book. On March 3, 1946, he married Barbara Inez Kidd, who died July 5, 1997.
Mr. Book retired from the former Continental Can Company in Van Wert and also was a farmer. He had lived all his life in Ohio, coming to Rockford from Willshire in 1990. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II and was a member of Greenbrier United Brethren Church near Ohio City.
Survivors include two brothers, the Rev. Rea (Fern) Book of Van Wert and William G. (Edna) Book of Ohio City; three sisters, Mae Thomas, Helen (Bill) Hurless and Pauline (Carl) Sell, all of Rockford; a sister-in-law, Edith Michael of Lima, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John O. Book and a brother who died in infancy, and three sisters, Olive Leighner and two sisters who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Robert Loar officiating and the Rev. John Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Greenbrier Cemetery near Ohio City.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

FOUST
Raymond E. "Gene" Foust, 61, of Delphos, died at 11:14 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born July 16, 1941, in Lima, the son of the late Raymond L. and Amanda R. (Derrow) Foust. On February 14, 1987, he was united in marriage with Janice A. "Jan" Foust, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Foust was employed at Accubuilt in Lima and formerly worked for Superior Coaches and Sheller Globe. He belonged to Eagles Aerie 370 in Lima, the Portland, Ind., Moose lodge and was a member of Garden City Christian Union Church in Lima. He loved to camp, visit flea markets and travel.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Johnny Ray Foust and Dennis Dean (Elizabeth) Foust, both of Delphos; two daughters, Julia Lynn Craig of Delphos and Beth Ann (Eugene) Maag of Fort Jennings; one stepson, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Backus of 29 Palms, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Michelle "Shelly" Holland of Lima and Laura Backus of Lima, and 17 grandchildren, Amanda (Derrick) Coil, Jessica Cooper, Brock Ellis, Cassandra Foust, Derek Foust, Crystal Keyton, Shana Rae Foust, Jon Holland, Mardus Backus, Shanin Holland, Kyle Holland, Angel Fea Foust, Joren Backus, Jarrett Backus, Destyne Backus, Zachary Foust and Alyssia Foust.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Dean Foust.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, the Rev. Russ Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

MAYER
Alice M. Mayer, 81, of Delphos, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2003, at her residence.
She was born December 5, 1921, in Delphos, the daughter of the late Clarence and Edna (Feaster) Mox. On May 3, 1947, she married Norman E. Mayer, who died December 21, 2002.
Mrs. Mayer worked for Graham Trailers. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Delphos and the Good Hope church group. She also belonged to the Ohio State University Alumni Association. She graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Survivors include a son, David (Linda) Mayer of Elida; one daughter, Katherine (Steve) Brekhus of Florida; two sisters, Helen Gorman and Norma Koenig, and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Mox.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, with the Rev. William Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos and an hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

EMANS
Merl F. Emans, 71, of 936 Southway St., died at 4:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 23, 1931, in Elgin, the son of the late Lee and Janice (Wilges) Emans. On January 31, 1990, he married Delores "Pete" Redmon, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Emans was retired from Tri Pallet Company in Morgan Hill, Calif. He was a member of Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert and Gideons International. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Coate of Celina; two daughters, Janice Emans of Lakewood, Calif., and Shreena Fornear of Clifton, Colo.; one brother, Edwin (Ana) Emans of Frankfurt, Ind.; two sisters, Wanda (Donald) Steele of Rotanda West, Fla., and Janet McHugh of Van Wert; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Raquel (Brad) Schaadt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert, the Rev. John Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

JONES
Dale F. "Jake" Jones, 90, of Convoy, died at 4:14 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, at Convoy Care Center.
He was born May 25, 1912, in Union Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Horace H. and Nellie (Harber) Jones. On July 11, 1933, he married Pauline Josephine Slattery, who died September 9, 1995.
Mr. Jones was employed for 37 years by Wayne Pump Manufacturing in Fort Wayne, Ind., and retired from General Electric Company in Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.
Survivors include a three sons, Trevor (Mary) Jones of Lima, Greg (Sue) Jones of Willshire and Alan (Maggie) Jones of Van Wert; five daughters, Darlene (Carl) Reid of Gilbert, Ariz., Diane (Ray) Tinnel and Paula (Dave) Sinning, both of Convoy, Kathy (John) Greenup of Hemlock, Mich., and Angie (Craig) Becher of Brentwood, Tenn.; 29 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Curtis; one granddaughter, Mary Darlene Reid; three brothers, Harry, Cliff and Bill Jones, and five sisters, Lola Manis, Opal Clouse, LuVern Kennedy, Doris Steel and Florence Hickman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Thomas Barrett officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where a parish vigil service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

WALLS
Bonnie Jean (Schmidt) Walls, 74, of 9188 John Brown Road, died at 10 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born June 1, 1928, in Wells County, Ind., the daughter of the late Rollie Russell Forrest and Elsie Viola (Draper) Schmidt. On June 7, 1956, she married Paul Eugene Walls, who died March 4, 1995.
Mrs. Walls was a homemaker and had worked at Federal-Mogul Corp. in Van Wert for 20 years. She attended First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include three sons, Kevin Joe (Dawn) Walls of Huntington, Ind., Stephen Douglas (Victoria) Walls of Manapequa, N.Y., and Gregory Eugene (Carmen) Walls of Wellington, Fla.; a daughter, Paula Jean (Joe) Ybarra of Van Wert; two brothers, Robert (Kay) Schmidt and Billie Joe (Janet) Schmidt, both of Van Wert; two sisters, Eva Lou (William) Burd and Joyce (Ted) Gates, both of Celina; a sister-in-law, Luella (Bill) Good of Van Wert; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, who died in infancy.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, the Rev. Dr. Larry Hamilton officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
