Bonnie Ruth Crawford, 78, of Van Wert died at 9:17 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital. She was born March 17, 1923, in Delphos, the daughter of the late Henry and Zella (Beckner) Best. On Sept. 13, 1940, she married Charles W. Crawford, who survives. Mrs. Crawford had been a longtime bookkeeper for the former Crawfords Garage in Middle Point and retired from employment with the Lincolnview School system. She was a member of Van Wert American Legion Auxiliary Post 178, Van Wert. She is survived by 2 Sisters-in-Law: Mary Schaadt and Kolleene Gilliland both of Van Wert, 1 Brother-in-Law: Edwin (Thelma) Crawford of Galion, Ohio, Her Special Daughter: Kathy Trammell of Venedocia Ohio and several Nieces and nephews. She was preceded in Death by 1 sister, Esther Teman and 1 brother, Gerald Best. Services Will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2002 at Brickner Funeral Home, with Rev. Cindy Lumm Officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday January 16, 2002 at the Funeral Home from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m.. Internment in King Cemetery, Middle Point Ohio. Memorial Contributions to the Van Wert County Humane Society and Middle Point United Methodist Church.

Age 81, died Sunday January 27, 2002, 10:30 a.m., at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg Florida. Born in Van Wert, she was the daughter of Nathan Steele and Laura (Mills) Steele, both deceased. She married Joseph D. Hammond on May 01, 1941, who died in 1974. On September 2, 1979 she married Donald Conn who is also deceased. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Wilber Steele, Chalmer Steele, two sisters: Wilma Baldwin, Velma Sperry. She is survived by two sons: Edward J. (Jeanne) Hammond, of Kinston, NC, Gary Dean (Carolyn) Hammond, of Lewisburg, TN., 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. With her husband, Joseph, she had been the co-owner of the former Colonial Restaurant. She was also a retired employee of National Seal, Federal Mogul Corp.. She was a former member of the Willow Bend Country Club in Van Wert. She wasa charter member of Continental Country Club, Wildwood, FL.. While living in Kinston, NC, she attended Covenant Fellowship Church. Calling hours on Thursday January 31, 2002 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Brickner Funeral Home. Age 91, died Friday January 25, 2002 at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert. Born in Van Wert, she was a homemaker. Her husband, LeRoy, died in 1999. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth "Bill" Jerome of Convoy, and Jerry Jerome of Brethren, Michigan; three daughters, Patty Noirot of Avilla, Indiana, Linda Robeson, and Jill Amweg, both of Van Wert; three sisters, Freda Hallard of Delphos, Esther "Dottie" Agler of Van Wert, and Betty Morris of Sebring, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and caregivers, Joan Holland, Beth Arnett and Amy Schroeder. She was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Wayne Jerome. Graveside services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at IOOF Cemetery, Convoy, Ohio. No calling hours. Memorials to Calvary Evangelical Church. Paul Eugene Butler

Age 81, died Sunday February 03, 2002, 6:48 p.m., at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert. Born in Delphos, Ohio, son of Oscar and Nora (Miller) Butler, both deceased. He married, Mary (Ringwald) Butler, who survives in Van Wert. He is also survived by four sons: Douglas (Vicki) Butler of Delphos, Dale (Lisa) Butler of Ohio City, Bob (Julie) Gamble of Van Wert, John (Beth) Gamble of Van Wert, six daughters: Diane (Mel) Mosier of Rockford,IL., Pamela (Jim) Schimmoeller of Delphos, Vicki (Dan) Kramer of Delphos, Barbara (Tracy) Orsbon of Conovoy, Nancy Smith of Lima, Paula (Bob) Halicki of Youngstown, two sisters: Marie Jacomet and Eileen (Walter) Byrne both of Delphos, 26 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son: Terry Gamble, two grandchildren, and 3 brothers: Gary Butler, Elbert Butler, and Lloyd Butler, two sisters: Goldie Nottingham, and Mildred Clinger. He had been an appliance repairman for 60 years, was a member of the First Friends Church in Van Wert and was a former church trustee. He as an Army Air Force Veteran of World War 2, and a member of the Van Wert American Legion Post 178.

She married, Paul Snyder,of Grover Hill, June 15, 1963. She is survived by one son: Richard K. (Amy) Snyder of Grover Hill, three daughters: Laura K. Snyder of Paulding, Dorthea M. (Robert) Vogel of Angola, IN., Sandra P. (James) Starbuck of Hicksville, 9 grandchildren, one brother: Thomas (Bonnie) Tindall of Woodburn, IN., one sister: Theresa (Jim) Lambert of Van Wert. She had been an employee of the former Fishers Big Wheel Store in Van Wert, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Aux. Post 2873, Grover Hill.

Harry E. Barker

63, of rural Van Wert died at 8:40 a.m. at the home of a cousin in Van Wert. Born in Paulding County, the son of the late Elijah and Mildred (Hartzog) Barker. Mr. Barker had worked at the Thomas Edison Workshop and also at Aeroquip Corp. through Thomas Edison. Survivors include three brothers, Sherman Barker and Robert Barker, both of Van Wert, and Roger Barker of Middle Point, and two sisters, Dorothy Webb of Lima and Helen Doyle of Harrod. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brickner Funeral Home, with a minister from Trinity Friends Church officiating. Burial will be in Blue Creek Cemetery. Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Thomas S. Mayes

age 53, of Venedocia, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at his residence. He was born July 21, 1948, in Middlesboro, Ky., the son of the late George R. and Ethel B. (Marsee) Mayes. On Nov. 22, 1967, he married Susan E. Burnett, who survives in Venedocia. Mr. Mayes was a retired employee of Federal-Mogul Corp.-National Seal Division in Van Wert. He was a member of Christian Life Center in Van Wert and graduated from Celina High School in 1967. He also attended Ohio State University. Other survivors include two sons, Thomas S. (Tina) Mayes Jr. and Timothy S. (Jodi) Mayes, both of Van Wert; a daughter, Audrey B. (Ethan) Cutler of Cleveland Heights; three brothers, Clifford (Betty) Mayes and Joe (Sharon) Mayes, both of Celina, and G. Harvey (Jean) Mayes of New Haven, Ind.; two sisters, Otsie (Charles) Wilcox of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Evelyn Dennis of St. Marys, and four granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard T. Mayes. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Venedocia Cemetery, the Rev. Scott E. Fleming officiating.
