JACOBS
Calvin L. Jacobs, 69, of 721 Liberty St., died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born January 7, 1933, in Lakeview, the son of the late Arnold and Virgie (Davis) Jacobs. On February 14, 1986, he married Audrey E. (Dickson) Speakman, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Jacobs retired in 1988 after 20 years at the Chrysler Amplex plant in Van Wert. He attended First United Methodist Church in Van Wert and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Callie (Brent) Stripe of Van Wert; three stepchildren, Doug Speakman of Fort Wayne, Ind., Shirley Couts of Van Wert and Karen (George) Morris of Clovis, Calif.; two sisters, Koneta Campbell of Wapakoneta and Betty Bishop of Zanesfield; one granddaughter, Stacia Amber Stripe; 10 stepgrandchildren, and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Calling hours are 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

KUHN
Anthony E. Kuhn, 70, of Syracuse, Ind., and formerly of Payne, died Monday, December 9, 2002, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born January 25, 1932, in Payne, the son of the late Edward and Victoria (Lucas) Kuhn. He was married and his wife, Phyllis, died in 1999.
Mr. Kuhn retired from Dana Corp., for whom he had worked in both Antwerp and Syracuse. He was a member of the Syracuse Lions Club.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Kuhn of Midwest City, Okla., Philip Kuhn of Goshen, Ind., and Kurt Kuhn of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Karen Johnson of Boulder, Colo., and Tamara Biller of Defiance; two brothers, John Kuhn of New Haven, Ind., and Hobart Kuhn of Payne; three sisters, Christina Schaefer and Clela Sample, both of Payne, and Nila Radenbaugh of St. Helens, Mich., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Payne, with Father G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Calling hours are after 4 p.m. Friday at Slade Funeral Home in Payne, where a rosary service will be held at 8 that night.

MOLLENKOPF
Nicholas J. Mollenkopf, 18, of 3227 Dixon-Cavett Road, Convoy, died late Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2002, on West Lincoln Highway near Van Wert.
He was born December 15, 1983, in Van Wert, the son of Richard L. "Rick" and Cynthia L. (Breece) Mollenkopf. He was not married.
Nicholas was employed at Quick Change in Van Wert and was a 2002 graduate of Crestview High School and Vantage Career Center in Van Wert. He was also a student at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima and a member of Convoy United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, J.R. (Becki) Mollenkopf of Convoy; one sister, Michelle Mollenkopf of Convoy; his paternal grandparents, Grace and Bert Edwards of Grover Hill, and his maternal grandmother, Eleanor Breece of Van Wert.
He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Doyt Breece and Stanley Mollenkopf.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Convoy United Methodist Church. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home in Convoy.

GERMANN
Alfred G. "Phil" Germann, 75, of 11013 Dull-Robinson Road, died Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2002, due to injuries from the tornado.
He was born September 23, 1927, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Russell and Lucille (Busch) Germann. On July 31, 1949, in Middle Point, he married Judith Putt, who survives.
Mr. Germann retired from Aeroquip Corp. in 1989 after 30 years. He was a member of Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Timothy (Lisa) Germann of Milan, Mich., and Jerry Germann of Convoy; one brother, Leroy (Eileen) Germann of Van Wert, and two granddaughters, Julie Johns and Shelley Germann.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Germann, who died at birth.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Gerald Baker officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in rural Van Wert County, with military graveside services conducted by the combined honor guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert.
Calling hours are 3-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio City Fire Department or the Van Wert County Sheriff's Department.
SHEEHAN
Mary Jane Sheehan, 79, of Payne, died on Sunday, November 10, 2002, at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
She was born April 7, 1923, in Fondulac, Wis., the daughter of the late William and Naomi (Voell) Ferguson. She first married Francis Hyland, who died in 1990. On December 30, 1997, she married John J. Sheehan, who survives.
Mrs. Sheehan was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas The Baptist Catholic Church in Payne.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Patrick Hyland of Sussey, Wis., and Peter Hyland of Milwaukee, Wis.; two daughters, Kathleen Moss of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Anne Bartusch of Lake Placid, Fla.; two stepsons, Stephen Sheehan of Defiance and Stanley Sheehan of Van Wert; two stepdaugthers, Rita Lamb of Payne and Patricia Kroncke of Whitehouse; a brother, Robert Ferguson of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Cemetery in Payne, with Father G. Alan Fillman officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Slade Funeral Home in Payne was in charge of arrangements.
HUGHS
James G. Hughs, 84, of rural Venedocia, died at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at Bluffton (Ind.) Regional Medical Center
He was born February 14, 1918, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Elmer James and Rachiel Ann (Cattell) Hughs. On December 12, 1942, he married Lois Johnson, who survives at Van Wert Manor nursing home.
Mr. Hughs was a retired farmer who farmed in York Township for 77 years. He was a member of Monticello United Brethren Church and of the former Elgin United Brethren Church, where he had held many and various offices and positions. He was a former member of the Van Wert County Board of Elections and the Van Wert County Farm Bureau. He attended York High School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Judy (Jack) Mauger of Warren, Ind., and Margaret Jane Hughs of Venedocia; two grandchildren, Thomas (Beverly) Mauger and Dea Mauger, and four great-grandchildren, Merscedes, Cheyenne, Presley and Reagan.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Evan Sylvester "Pete" Hughs and William Henry Hughs, who died in infancy, and a sister, Margaret Elizabeth Rauch.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Revs. Carey G. Knittle and Andy Atkins officiating. Burial will be in Goodwin Cemetery in York Township.
Calling hours will be 2-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Monticello United Brethren Church or the tornado fund of the United Way.
STRAYER
Arnold Strayer, 86, of Delphos, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos.
He was born March 30, 1916, in Allen County, Ohio, the son of the late Ross and Jessie (John) Strayer.
Mr. Strayer worked for Ralph's Restaurant in Elida for many years. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Delphos.
Survivors include a sister, Dortha Unland of Delphos, and one brother, Lyle Strayer of Lima, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, LaVern Strayer, Griffith Strayer, Harold Strayer, Russel Strayer and Robert Stayer, and two sisters, Madella Strayer and Avonelle Wilson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, with Pastor Ronald Lumm officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or St. Rita's Hospice.
