COFFELT
Evelyn A. Coffelt, 88, of Van Wert, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born July 19, 1914, in Thomasboro, Ill., the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Arnold) Vaske. On October 19, 1938, she married Harold Coffelt, who died January 1, 1971.
Mrs. Coffelt was a homemaker and a member of St. Marys of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Good of Van Wert; one son, Ron Coffelt of Delphos; a brother, Ralph Vaske of Ohio City; one sister, Betty Krugh of Van Wert; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosalyn Fisher; three brothers, Joseph, Larry and Raymond Vaske, and three sisters, Elsie Vaske, Anita Cera and Frances Baird.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Marys of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Joseph M. Schmelzer officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:45 that evening.

CUMBEY
Thomas Lynn Cumbey Sr., 57, of Roanoke, Ind., died on Wednesday, January 9, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born December 19, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of the late Fletcher and Erma M. (Fliss) Cumbey. He was a lifelong resident of Roanoke. He was married and his wife of 32 years, the former Jan Rhoades, survives.
Mr. Cumbey graduated from Roanoke High School in 1963 and served four years in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired supervisor for North America Van Lines and was employed at Ridge NAPA. He was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church of Roanoke and was an active member of American Legion Post 160 and Roanoke Masonic Lodge. He was a retired volunteer with more than 20 years on the Roanoke Fire Department and was best known as a master Jeep mechanic.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Thomas L. (Tina) Cumbey Jr. of Fort Wayne and Bobby Cumbey of Roanoke; a brother, Alan F. Cumbey of Beaver, Pa.; one sister, Margaret Mullen of Jonesboro, Ind., and a granddaughter, Madeline Hoskins-Cumbey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Seminary United Methodist Church in Roanoke. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Roanoke Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church and American Legion Post 160.

BURNETT
Hugh E. Burnett, 78, of 204 South Ave., died at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born February 4, 1925, in Mercer County, the son of the late Homer and Irene (Roller) Burnett. On November 22, 1997, he married Anna (Wilkin) Buettner, who survives at home.
Mr. Burnett was retired from Crown Equipment Corp. and was then employed for 12 years as a security guard at Wemco in Lima. A 1943 graduate of York High School, he was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He attended Middle Point United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Homer (Carol) Burnett of Celina and Ray (Donna) Burnett of Greenville; four daughters, Donna (Mike) Hampton of Lima, Mary Miller and Gay (Robert) Pease, both of Van Wert, and Martha Melco of Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepdaughter, Jane (Jeff) Maus of Van Wert and Sherry Buettner of Delphos; a sister, Dorothy Hartung of Celina; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Burnett; one sister, Hazel Johnson, and by a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Jay Roller and Rev. Cindy Lumm officiating. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery in Union Township, Mercer County.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Sunday and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Burnett to the American Cancer Society.

GROTHOUSE
Heather L. Grothouse, 23, of Delphos, died at 12:40 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, at her residence.
She was born December 22, 1979, in Lima, the daughter of Timothy and Carla (Keeling) Grothouse, who survive in Delphos. She was not married.
Miss Grothouse was a customer service specialist at Lazarus in the Lima Mall. She was a 1998 graduate of Delphos St. John's High School and was a member of St. John the Evangelistic Catholic Church in Delphos. She loved collecting Boyd's Bears and Precious Moments figurines. She also loved to dance with friends and family and participated in cheerleading, band and in the class play, "Cinderella."
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Kerry A. Grothouse of Delphos and her fiancé, Richard L. "Rickey" Burris; her grandparents, Robert and Ruth Keeling Sr. of Delphos and Arthur A. and Mary Grothouse of Delphos; many aunts, uncles and cousins, and her godparents, Irvin and Judy Trentman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelistic Catholic Church in Delphos, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Delphos.
Calling hours are 6-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Miss Grothouse to James Cancer Center in Columbus.

McCLELLAN
Ronnie G. McClellan, 54, of Van Wert, died July 11, 2003, at his residence.
He was born August 1, 1948, in Hicksville, the son of Lee H. McClellan of Van Wert and the late Betty J. (Severance) McClellan.
Mr. McClellan worked at Federal-Mogul Corp. in Van Wert for nearly 30 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict and was a 1967 graduate of Van Wert High School. He was a member of the Delphos Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and belonged to Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 886 in Van Wert.
Survivors include a daughter, Stacy McClellan of Traverse City, Mich.; one son, David McClellan of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Brenda (Dennis) Mengerink of Middle Point; two brothers, Gary (Linette) McClellan and Glen (Vicki) McClellan, both of Van Wert, and one sister, Linda Lund of Waldorf, Md.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dustin McClellan, and a sister, Brenda K. McClellan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with military graveside rites performed by combined units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. McClellan to the American Heart Association.

HUFFMAN
Opal May Huffman, 93, of Rockford, died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Home in Rockford.
She was born May 25, 1910, in Rockford, to the late Benjamin and Merle (Rush) Snyder. In 1926, she married Darrell Huffman, who preceded her in death in March 1972.
Mrs. Huffman was a licensed practical nurse at the former Smith Nursing Home in Rockford and later at Shane Hill Nursing Home in Rockford. She lived most of her life in Rockford and was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church and the Ohio Association of Retired LPNs and the Election Polling Board in Mercer County. She was also church historian for year and was an American Red Cross blood drive volunteer.
Survivors include a son, Dan (Bonnie) Huffman of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Bessie Fahncke of Celina and Bonita (Dean) Deitsch of Fort Wayne, Ind., and two granddaughters, Karie (Mike) Stophel and Amy Huffman, both of Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dee, Lowell, Verl and Darlene Snyder, and four sisters, Arberdene Fickert, Lela Felver, Lena Cook and Jessie Sapp.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, the Rev. Clifford Bollenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Huffman to a charity of donor's choice.

ENGEL
Jane E. Engel, 81, of 7793 Middle Point-Wetzel Road, Middle Point, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born November 25, 1921, in Stockbridge, Mich., the daughter of the late Glen and Lydia (Van Schoik) Newman. On August 9, 1947, she married Robert Engel, who survives.
Mrs. Engel was a homemaker and also worked as a cook for Lincolnview Local Schools. She was a member of Middle Point United Methodist Church. She enjoyed music and played organ at the church. She belonged to the Grange and Farm Bureau organizations and had been a WAVE during World War II.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, David (Rose Mary) Engel of Asheboro, N.C.; one daughter, Denise (John) Cramer of Middle Point; a sister, Madge Rose of Columbus; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Evans, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Cindy Lumm officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point, with graveside military honors conducted by the combined honors unit of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
Calling hours are 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Engel to the church or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
