SHORT
Florence I. Short, 76, of Dixon-Cavett Road, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born May 5, 1927, in Middle Point, the daughter of the late John H. and Clara B. (Leathers) DuVall. On July 6, 1946, she married Elmer E. Short, who died in November 1991.
Mrs. Short was a homemaker and a member of North Union United Methodist Church in Van Wert County. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Church Women United and Van Wert County Hospital Lady Board of Managers.
Survivors include four sons, Thomas (Sharon) Short of Convoy and Roger (Mary) Short, Carl (Christi) Short and Kenneth Short, all of Van Wert; a daughter, Clara (Dan) Konkle of Heber Springs, Ark.; one brother, Lawrence (Pat) DuVall of De Tour, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Lois DuVall of Van Wert; one sister, Ruby Albright of Van Wert; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Raymond DuVall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at North Union United Methodist Church, the Rev. James Howell officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

WELKER
Darren L. Welker, 40, of Van Wert, died early Saturday morning, June 14, 2003.
He was born February 6, 1963, in Van Wert, the son of Shirley (Joe) Welker Kemper, who survives in Maria Stein, and the late Stanley D. Welker.
Mr. Welker worked for Fort Wayne Roofing in Fort Wayne, Ind. He belonged to the Rockford Eagles lodge.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his fianceé, Kelly Thomas of Van Wert; a son, Zachary Welker of Van Wert; one daughter, Stevie Joy Welker of Van Wert; a grandfather, Orval "Doc" Humerickhouse of Mendon; his stepmother, Susan Welker of Van Wert; a brother, Dallas (Kris) Welker of Van Wert, and four sisters, Dawn (Mark) Stutz and Katie Welker, both of Van Wert, and Darla (Terry) Seibert and D'Anna (John) Siano, both of Mendon.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dana Welker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Carey Knittle officiating.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

AMWEG
Mary Eileen Amweg, 79, of Ohio City, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born January 3, 1924, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late E. Lee and L. Faye (Adams) Felger. On December 22, 1941, she married James W. Amweg Sr., who died in 1992.
Mrs. Amweg was a homemaker and attended Ohio City Church of God.
Survivors include three sons, James W. (Cindy) Amweg and Danny R. (Linda) Amweg, both of Ohio City, and Michael L. Amweg of Convoy; a daughter, Martha Cox of Convoy; four brothers, Junior Felger, Ralph (Gloria) Felger, Roger Felger and Danny Felger, all of Van Wert; one sister, Helen Drocy of Swanton; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Carrol, Milo, Eugene and Richard Felger.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

THOMAS
Paul E. Thomas, 75, of 736 Virginia Ave., died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, following a short illness.
He was born September 9, 1927, in York Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Homer and Nannie (Woolam) Thomas. On May 10, 1947, he married Naomi R. Oehlhof, who survives.
Mr. Thomas was a retired farmer and also worked for York Township and for Pollock's Furniture in Van Wert. He was a member of the former Wesley Chapel and attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Van Wert. He was a 1945 graduate of York High School. He was a member of the Old Fashioned Farmers Association and the Van Wert County Farm Bureau.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary (Roberta) Thomas of rural Van Wert, and two grandsons, Andrew (Kerri) Thomas and Bradley Thomas, both of Van Wert.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucile Gertrude Walker, on September 26, 1993.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Douglas Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery in York Township.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

MILLER
Bonita E. "Bonnie" Miller, 56, of 10695 Mendon Road, died Monday morning, June 16, 2003, at her residence.
She was born August 12, 1946, in Decatur, Ind., the daughter of the late Paul G. and Lillian L. (Copper) Miller. She never married.
Miss Miller retired after 30 years of service from Teleflex Corp. in Van Wert. She formerly attended Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church in Convoy.
She is survived by three sisters, Loretta (Wilbur) Rank of Maplewood and Kathleen Miller and Beverly Miller, both of Van Wert, a nephew, Scott Rank; one niece, Tami (Dave) Vanderhoff; a great-nephew, Matthew Rank, and one great-niece, Kristin Vanderhoff.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Raymond Daniel officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.
Calling hours are 3-5 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

MAURER
Winifred Ellen Maurer, 88, of Mendon, died at 7:17 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Home in Rockford, where she had been a patient since January 31.
She was born July 8, 1914, in Mercer, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Achsah (Palmer) Skinner. On December 15, 1942, she married John W. Maurer, who preceded her in death on June 13, 1985.
Mrs. Maurer was a homemaker and a member of Mercer United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. She also belonged to the Mercer County Genealogical Society.
Survivors include a son, Robert (Rozann) Maurer of Mendon; two daughters, Peg (Dale) Snider of Mendon and Pam (Dave) Young of Celina, and four grandchildren, Megan and Melanie Maurer and Bryan and Johnathon Young.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Maurer, and a sister, Harriet Skinner.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mercer United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kenneth Baker officiating. Burial will be in Mercer Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

SIDLE
Lowell L. Sidle Sr., 81, of Van Wert, died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born December 10, 1921, in Van Wert, the son of the late Lee and Grace (Mongold) Sidle. On May 18, 1947, he married Annabel Hart, who died August 11, 2002.
Mr. Sidle retired in 1983 after 22 years of service from Weatherhead-Dana Corporation in Antwerp. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Van Wert. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the European Theatre during World War II. He was a charter life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178, both in Van Wert.
Survivors include two sons, Lowell (Patty) Sidle Jr. and Michael (Carol) Sidle, both of Van Wert; four daughters, Linda Ball of Cincinnati, Judy (Jim) Reinhart of Van Wert, Barbara Hunter of Austin, Texas, and Rosemary Teghtmeyer of Wapakoneta; two brothers, Wayne (Carol) Sidle and O.C. Sidle, both of Van Wert; a sister, Nelleta Reidenbach of Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-graet-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Carl Reidenbach, and a sister-in-law, Pauline Sidle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Douglas Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the combined honor units of VFW Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178.
