ELLIS
Lucien W. "Luke" Ellis, 84, of Delphos and formerly of Mount Sterling, Ky., died at 4:36 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Boulder City Veterans Nursing Home.
He was born January 13, 1919, in Kentucky, the son of the late Forest and Prudie (Clarkston) Ellis. He was united in marriage with Mary Jane Ellis, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Ellis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a prisoner of war.
Survivors include a daughter, Ola (Patrick) Ellis of Las Vegas, Nev., and eight stepchildren, Lynn (Joseph) Wilson of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Pat (Bob) Poling of Delphos, Donald (Betty) Pierce of Forest Grove, Ga., David Pierce of Frankfort, Ky., Nona (Frank) Lumpkins of Delphos, Sue Cooper of Indiana Lake, Terry Pierce of Fort Jennings and Becky Stubbs of Harrod.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlyle Ellis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos, with military graveside rites performed by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Calling hours will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

STEWART
Vera Violet Stewart, 89, formerly of 11278 Ohio 49, Ohio City, died at 1:13 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Convoy Care Center.
She was born November 10, 1913, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Bice) Jewell. In 1938, she married Gerald D. Stewart, who died August 10, 1976.
Mrs. Stewart had worked at the Morris 5 and 10 Cent Store in Van Wert and operated with her husband a farm and Stewart Trucking. She was active in the former Wood Chapel Church as treasurer, chorister and teacher and was a member of Convoy United Brethren in Christ Church, where she taught Sunday School and played the piano. She was a graduate of Union High School.
Survivors include a son, Leslie D. (Rita) Stewart of Springfield; one brother, Orville Jewell of Convoy; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Purman of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a grandson, David (Boni) Stewart of Lake Choctaw; two great-granddaughters, Jessica and Gabrielle, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Ervin and Raymond Jewell, and four sisters, Goldie Pancake, Agnes Campbell, Laura Jewell and Lillian Jewell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Stainfield Memorial Home in Convoy, with Pastor Stewart L. Dennie of Convoy UB in Christ Church officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

EDWARDS
F. Marie Edwards, 98, of Van Wert, died at 7:16 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Van Wert Manor nursing home.
She was born August 30, 1904, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Clarence Eli and Bertha (Bice) Adams. On May 1, 1926, she married Lawrence Edwards, who died May 4, 1996.
Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Van Wert Manufacturing Company in Van Wert. She was also a former member of Ohio City Church of God and had been very active in the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris (Dean) Ley of Van Wert; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Edwards of Van Wert; a brother, Doyt Adams of Rockford; one sister, Thelma Proffit of Huntington, Ind.; three grandchildren, Devin (Mischele) Ley of Fort Wayne, Ind., Brent (Brenda) Edwards and Shawn (Jim) Germann, both of Van Wert, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; one daughter, Dorothy Jean Edwards, and a brother, Marian Adams.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.
Calling hours are 3-6 p.m. Wednesday and an hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

VANTILBURG
Marjorie P. VanTilburg, 87, of Van Wert, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born February 16, 1916, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Colonel and Pearl (Staples) Stover. She was first married to Cleo Shivley, who preceded her in death. She then married Don VanTilburg, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. VanTilburg was a homemaker and a member of Jennings Road Church of Christ in Van Wert.
Survivors include three sons, Bud L. (Pat) Shivley of Convoy, Ronald C. (Joan) Shivley of Ossian, Ind., and Gordon K. (Velma) Shivley of Delphos; one daughter, Beth A. (Richard) Lininger of Van Wert; a sister, Mildred Horner of Bradenton, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Jan Edwards, Sheri Tindall, Tammy Miller and Karissa Rutkowski, all of Van Wert, Jill Diller, Craig Shivley and Pam Motycka, all of Convoy, Lori Cottrell of Antwerp, Julie Woods and Amy Hoback, both of Lima, Tom Lininger of Columbus and Erin Culler of Maumee; 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Zimmerman and Dorothy Malston, and two brothers, Wilbur and Ralph Stover.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brickner Funeral Home, the Rev. David Ray officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Middle Point.
Calling hours will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

YEARLING
Lewis Lynn Yearling, 78, of Van Wert, died at 11:12 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born May 27, 1924, in Grover Hill, the son of the late Lewis and Ruth (Tucker) Yearling. On August 22, 1944, he married Catherine M. Wells, who survives at home.
Mr. Yearling delivered fuel for many years for T. Powell Jones Company in Van Wert and retired from Aeroquip (Eaton) Corporation in Van Wert. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dana (Cheryl) Yearling of Van Wert; one daughter, Sharon Billing of Troy; a sister, Joyce (Andrew) DeCamp of Grover Hill; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill.
Calling hours will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

DECKER
Isabel Decker, 91, of Van Wert, died at 9:50 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at Lincolnway Home near Middle Point.
She was born June 9, 1911, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Simon and Bertha (Price) Wells. On October 7, 1950, in Van Wert, she married Robert Decker, who died December 28, 1977.
Mrs. Decker was employed in the office of Dr. Tom Edwards in Lima for many years. She also had worked for a time at The Brumback Library. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and Twig I.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Gerry Wells of Leipsic; a nephew, Gene (Diana) Wells of Bolivia, N.C., and a niece, Sue (Charles) Atkinson of Garrett, Ind.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gaylord Wells.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Anthony Borgia officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Calling hours are one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Arrangements were handled by Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.
HAINES
Janet M. Haines, 82, of Van Wert, died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born February 14, 1921, in Van Wert, the daughter, of the late William I. and Mabel G. (Blank) Murphy. On March 4, 1944, in Van Wert, she married Leo M. Haines, who survives.
Mrs. Haines was a homemaker and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert and had been very active in the church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Gary Haines of Van Wert; one brother, Lowell (Jane) Murphy of Van Wert; a sister, Annalee Duncan of Longview, Texas, and one grandchild, Jonathan Scott (Laura) Haines of Delphos.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, the Rev. Edward Jillson officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
