BATES
Donald Edward Bates, 60, of Rockford, died at 5:02 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, where he was a patient.
He was born September 3, 1943, in Decatur, Ind., to Annis (Marbaugh) Bates, who survives in Willshire, and the late Glen Edward Bates. On January 13, 1962, he married Nancy B. Baker, who also survives.
Mr. Bates retired from General Dynamics in Lima and trained standard-bred horses full time.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by four sons, Tyler (Suzanne) Bates of Gibsonburg, Ind., Talan (Donna) Bates of Willshire, Trent Bates of Rockford and Travis (Debbie) Bates of Fremont; a brother, Bill (Rhonda) Bates of Grover Hill; one sister, Donna (Norman) Williamson of Willshire, and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, the Revs. M.E. Burckett and Mark Rutledge officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday, November 7, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
SHAW
Lois L. Shaw, 91, of Van Wert, died at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at Shepherd of the Hill Nursing Home in Kendallville, Ind.
She was born April 30, 1912, in Grover Hill, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mae (Mansfield) Ladd. On May 28, 1932, she married Paul Shaw, who preceded her in death on January 8, 1989.
Mrs. Shaw was a homemaker and a member of First Friends Church in Van Wert.
Survivors include a son, Donald (Cheryl) Shaw of Kendallville; one sister, Helen Roth of Van Wert, and three grandchildren, Shannon Cooper, Cori Christofferson and Trent Fordeck.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn Louise Shaw and Carolyn Sue Shaw; a son, Dana Dean Shaw; two brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Van Wert County.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 7, at the funeral home.

BULLINGER
Robert "Bob" Bullinger,75, of Fort Jennings, died at 9:38 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born August 29, 1928, in Junction, the son of the late Thomas and Emma (Clark) Bullinger. On September 24, 1949, he married Lois Saxton, who survives in Fort Jennings.
Mr. Bullinger retired from Fruehauf in 1993. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Jennings, and also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed his lawn mower and fixing things and loved bingo.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Randy (Karen) Bulling of Van Wert; one daughter, Rosalie (Mike) Brinkman of Fort Jennings; three sisters, Madonna Amato of Shelby, Mary DiSanze of Delphos and Elizabeth Ricker of Cloverdale, one brother, Rolland (MaryLou) Bullinger of Oakwood, and six grandchildren, Amy, Trish, Miranda and Perry Brinkman, Jason Bullinger and April (Todd) Warren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Bullinger; three brothers, Raymond, Richard and Russell Bullinger, and two sisters, Margaret Finn and Melvena Myers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 10, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville, with Father Tony Borgia officiating. Burial will be in St. Barbara Catholic Cemetery in Cloverdale, with military graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 715 in Fort Jennings.
Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Saturday, November 9, and 2-8 p.m. Sunday, November 9, at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 9.

MOSIER
Ida M. Mosier, 79, of Van Wert, died Saturday morning, November 8, 2003, at her residence.
She was born May 5, 1924, in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Fred and Camilla (Smalley) Myers. On June 26, 1946, she married Ernest E. Mosier, who died April 23, 2003.
Mrs. Mosier formerly did secretarial work and had worked at Borden's Cheese for 15 years. She was a member of North Union Methodist Church in Van Wert, the United Methodist Women of the church and the Van Wert YWCA.
Survivors include a son, Donald E. (Susan) Mosier of Convoy; four daughters, Paulette (Ron) Ross of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Joan (Ron) Rank of Van Wert; Susan (Mike) McClure of Convoy and Connie (Mike) Hart of Scott; two brothers, John (Connie) Myers of Silver Lake, Ind., and Joseph (Valera) Myers of Van Wert; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Myers, and one sister, Deloris Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, at North Union United Methodist Church in rural Van Wert, the Rev. MaryAnn Tomlinson officiating, assisted by Rev. Paul Miller. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to the services Wednesday, November 12, at the church.

CONLEY
Raymond Conley, 77, of Delphos, died at noon, Saturday, November 8, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born February 12, 1926, in Salyerville, Ky., the son of the late Pearlie and Vura (Watkins) Conley. On April 25, 1948, he married Betty Jean Dolt, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Conley retired from Fruehauf in 1985 after 30 years service and was working as a welder at Krendl Machine Company at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Delphos and received his GED March 6, 1996. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was in four major battles, including Iwo Jima. He enjoyed tinkering and building (he constructed his own home from the ground up) and loved his family very much, spending much time with them.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Sue (Vernon) Boggs of Van Wert and Vicki Lynn (Randall) Rinehart of Delphos; four sisters, Oliva (Carl) Tunis and Dolly Conley, both of North Judson, Ind., Mona (Mario) Cardone of Lima and Sylvia Koch of Michigan; a brother, Emzey (Doris) Convoy of Forest; five grandchildren, Amie (Brad) Abbott, Steven (Tia) Hittle, Ryan, Robb and Tara Rinehart, and two great-grandchildren, Lilian Hittle and Isabella Rae Abbott.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Conley, and one sister, Christina Back.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Delphos, the Rev. William Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos, with military graveside rites performed by the Delphos Veteran Council.
Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. Monday, November 10, at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

LEHMAN
Mary Alice Lehman, 92, formerly of Scott, died at 12:16 a.m. Sunday, November 9, 2003, at Van Wert Manor nursing home, where she had been a resident since April 1999.
She was born March 10, 1911, in Cavett, the daughter of the late William "Henry" and Cora (Taylor) Miller. On April 20, 1929, she married Clarence Owen Lehman, who died June 29, 1995.
Mrs. Lehman was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She was a member of Scott Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid Society, until the church's closing, and attended Calvary Bible Church in Paulding and Country Chapel United Methodist Church in Haviland. She attended Union School in Van Wert County and was a longtime member of the local community club.
Survivors include three sons, Emmit H. (Juanita) Lehman of Grays Lake, Ill., Lloyd O. (Jeannine) Lehman of Van Wert and E. Eugene (Karen) Lehman of Ottawa; three daughters, Erma B. (Dean) Lewis of Blacklick, Phidela (Raymond) Daniel of New Bremen and Alice M. (Wayne) Purrett of Portland, Ore.; two half-brothers, Robert (June) Miller and Ted (Carla) Miller, both of Van Wert; three half-sisters, Eloise Mullenix of California, Mildred Munro of North Carolina and Dorothy Miller of Grover Hill; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hank and Harold Miller; a half-brother, Purl Miller; one sister, Norvah V. Berry; a half-sister, Nina Bollinger, and two great-grandsons, Christian A. and Jacob E. Vaffis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Raymond S. Daniel Jr. (son-in-law), the Rev. Gerald D. Lewis and the Rev. Deborah Frysinger officiating. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery.

TOSSEY
Ruth M. Tossey, 99, of Van Wert, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born July 1, 1904, in Ridge Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late John and Laurabell (Dolby) Slattery. She married Roger Tossey, who died in 1979.
Mrs. Tossey taught school in the Ridge-Lincolnview schools, retiring in 1964. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was also a member of the Van Wert Retired Teachers Association, American Legion Auxiliary and Lamba Delta Omega sorority.
Survivors include a sister, Helen (William) Wise of Ohio City, and 17 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Slattery, and three sisters, Grace (Hillary) Kimmet, Mildred (Doyle) Tribolet and Pauline (Dale) Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:45 that evening.
