COCHENSPARGER
Jack E. Cochensparger, 81, of Delphos, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born June 11, 1923, in Lima, the son of the ate Dell and Naomi (Simpson) Cochensparger. On August 17, 1945, he married Betty Holmes, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Cochensparger was a rural mail carrier with the Delphos Post Office who retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 268, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035, the National Rural Letter Carrier Association, Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos, the Walnut Grove Cemetery Board of Trustees and Hope Masonic Lodge 214. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a chief warrant officer. He enjoyed stamp collecting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Crystal) Cochensparger of Delphos, one daughter, Mary Jo (Richard) Behrns of Delphos, and a granddaughter, Emily Liggett of Delphos.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Liggett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 13, at the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 8 that evening.

ELWER
Lucia A. "Lucy" Elwer, 45, of Delphos, died at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
She was born January 27, 1959, in Lima, the daughter of Lucille (Omlor) Becker, who survives in Delphos, and the late William J. Becker. On July 2, 1983, she married David Elwer, who survives in Delphos.
Mrs. Elwer owned and operated Elwer Board Kennels from 1987-2002 and was co-owner of Elwer Fence. She was a dog groomer for several years, an avid garden pond enthusiast and a local dirt track fan. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, a former member of the American Boarding Association and current member of the American Fence Association. She was a 1977 graduate of Delphos Jefferson High School.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a daughter, Natalie Elwer of Delphos, and four brothers, John, Tom, Joe and Ed Becker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, with Father Thomas Gorman officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Delphos.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 13, at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 that evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Uninsured Cancer Patients Fund of Hope Cancer Center in Lima.
ROGERS
Faith M. Rogers, 98, of Van Wert, died at 4:04 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004, at Lincolnway Nursing Home near Middle Point.
She was born August 24, 1905, in Darke County, the daughter of the late Ora Hittle and Isabelle (Dancer) Hittle Fritz. On September 8, 1939, in Russel, Ky., she married Lewis W. Rogers, who survives in Van Wert.
Mrs. Rogers was a housewife and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert and its Ladies Aid Society.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Charles Rogers of Van Wert; four daughters, Ellen Edwards, Dorothy Stahl, Loella (Perry) Patsiavos and Carrol (Gig) Davis, all of Van Wert; one sister, Lucreathia Ralston of Delphos; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, John Sigler and James Rogers; a daughter, Leota Foreman; four brothers, and five sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Calling hours are 3-8 p.m. Monday, August 9, at the funeral home.

BARTAL
Frank J. Bartal, 73, of Van Wert, died at 4:55 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004, at Van Wert Manor nursing home in Van Wert.
He was born March 29, 1931, in Dillonville, the son of the late Michael and Rozella (Edvi) Bartal. On June 16, 1951, he married Margaret Reidenbach, who survives.
Mr. Bartal was an employee of General Electric Company in Decatur, Ind., for 45 years. He was a 1950 graduate of the former Ridge High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gregory (Heather) Bartal of Van Wert; one brother, James (Virginia) Bartal of Anderson, N.C.; two sisters, Rose Binkley of Batavia and Irene Fisli of Los Altos Hills, Calif., and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William, and one sister, Mary.
Private family graveside services will be conducted at Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point, with the Rev. Joe Weiss officiating. Graveside military rites will be performed by the combined honors unit of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both of Van Wert.
There will be no calling hours.
SCHRADER
Edward E. Schrader, 83, of Delphos, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at his residence.
He was born May 2, 1921, in New Haven, Ind., the son of the late Edward J. and Estella (Martin) Schrader. On August 4, 1945, he married Wilma Arnold, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Schrader retired from Fruehauf Corporation after more than 40 years of service. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3740 in Ottoville; American Legion Post 0330 in New Haven, 767 Squadron Dn,461st Bombardment Group (H) Inc. and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy and was very proud of his accomplishments during his service time. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, watching and feeding squirrels. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his World War II memorabilia and especially enjoyed his dog, Bitsy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Schrader and Jim (Rene) Schrader, both of Ottoville; four daughters, Julie Schrader of Coos Bay, Ore., Sue (Bob) Metcalf of Delphos, Linda (Hop) McClure-Hammons of Ottoville and GiGi (Larry) Dodd of Central Point, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at noon (EDT) Saturday, August 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven, with Father Paul McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in New Haven, with graveside military rites performed by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday, August 19, at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos, 3-9 p.m. (EDT) Friday, August 20, at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home in New Haven, where a parish wake service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. (EDT) Friday, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
ADKINS
Charles H. "Hobe" Adkins, 70, of Van Wert, died at 3:21 Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at his residence.
He was born February 16, 1934, in Jackson County, the son of the late Ernest and Iva (Leonard) Adkins. On May 15, 1989, he married Sharon J. Glancy, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Adkins retired from Zollner Corporation in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the Van Wert Moose Lodge, a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, also in Van Wert.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert L. (Karen) Adkins of Payne; two stepsons, Gary L. (Tammy) Nihiser of Convoy and Randy J. (Michelle) Nihiser of Lima; one daughter, Lori (Dave) Royse of Convoy; two brothers, Virgil (Jo) Adkins and Weldon (Georgianna) Adkins, both of Haviland; seven sisters, Shirley (Gale) Yoh and Sandra (Bill) Davis, both of Haviland, Freda (Journey) Farris of Grover Hill, Ruthie Healy of Harrogate, Tenn., Betty Myers of Syracuse, Ind., Nancy (Dave) Laukhuf of Paulding and Merri Adkins of Convoy; seven grandchildren, Aaron L. Robert W. and Chris M. Adkins, Thomas J. and Joseph A. Bowersox and Kevin L. and Paul E. Royse; four stepgrandchildren, Melissa B., Heather A. and Graydon D. Nihiser and Garrett L. Harju, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Mary Ann Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point, with military graveside rites performed by the combined honor units of American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 20, at the funeral home, where a VFW memorial service will be conducted at 7:45 that evening.

HEIZMAN
Lester William "Pop" Heizman, 83, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004.
He was married to Dolores Larsen, who survives.
Mr. Heizman was a dedicated teacher and coach at Colerain High School for 36 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael (Cathy)
Heizman, Christian (Christine) Heizman and Scott (Jenny) Heizman; a daughter, Barbara (Mike) Logan; nine grandchildren, Cara Heizman, Brad (Jessica) Heizman, Brian Heizman, Jacque (Rob) Welch, David (Margot) Heizman, Matt Heizman, Cetti Logan, Ryan Logan and Jason Logan, and one great-grandchild, Katelyn Welch.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, at Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 7345 Hamilton Ave. (Mt. Healthy) Cincinnati.
Calling hours are 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
