TYLER
Emma Gertrude Schoonover Tyler, 88, of Van Wert, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at Van Wert Manor nursing home in Van Wert.
She was born May 11, 1916, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Henry F. and Rebecca Jane (Miller) Taylor. In 1933, she married Frank Russell Schoonover, who preceded her in death in 1966. On March 31, 1947, she married Clifford Leo Tyler Sr., who died in 1987.
Mrs. Tyler was a cook at Carl Wright's and Conrad's truck stops in Van Wert and also at Van Wert County Hospital. She attended Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert.
Survivors include four sons, Frank (Lois) Schoonover Jr., Lawrence (Beverly) Schoonover, Thomas (Mary) Tyler and Clifford (Penny) Tyler Jr.; three daughters, Gloria Felger, Carolyn (Steve) Murphy and Emma (Wade) Raines; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Jake, Roy, Frank, Ruben and Francis Taylor; six sisters, Iva Hofacker, Mary Swygert, Naomi Morgan, Elva Wolford, Ruth Moore and Opal Reichert, and two grandsons, Brent Lee and Brian Lee Felger.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 21, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
Calling hours are 3-8 p.m. Friday, August 20, at the funeral home.

JEWELL
Jacque H. Jewell, 43, of Van Wert, died at 7:50 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004, at her daughter's residence.
She was born November 6, 1960, in Van Wert, the daughter of Evelyn (Knuth) Jewell and the late William Jewell.
Ms. Jewell was a nurse's aide.
In addition to her mother, survivors include two daughters, Precious Meinerding of St. Marys and Ashley Baker of Paulding; five sisters, Kathleen (Tom) Hawk of Brownsburg, Ind., Helen (Dick) Richardson of Delphos, Jessie (Danny) Chesbro and Jilda Yoh, both of Van Wert, and Evelyn (Don) Mercer of Antwerp; seven brothers, William (Lorna) Jewell of Grover Hill, Evert (Sol) Jewell of Wayahacite, Texas, Chuck Searfoss, Edward P. Knuth and William F. Knuth, all of Middle Point, George (Toni) Searfoss of Haviland and Ernest A. (Kathy) Jewell of Defiance; two grandchildren, Dylan Meinerding and Ashtin Rowe, and her significant other, William Ball of Van Wert.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene L. Dawson; one brother, Robert M. Jewell. and a nephew, Nicholas A. Dawson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 27, at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, with Pastor Charlie Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Auglaize Chapel Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 26, at the funeral home.

MILLER
Harold W. Miller, 80, of rural Convoy, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at his residence.
He was born February 4, 1924, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Marvin and Maude (Harmon) Miller. On July 17, 1943, he married Annabelle Feasby, who survives.
Mr. Miller worked at Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company for 37 years and was also a farmer. He was a member of Convoy United Methodist Church. A 1942 graduate of Tully-Convoy High School, Mr. Miller was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II in the South Pacific and a member of Convoy American Legion Post 208.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters, Betty Miller of Convoy, Bonnie (William) Zeeb of Cincinnati, Kathy Miller of Convoy, and Debbie (Don) Gates of Hilliard; two sons, James (Jayne) Miller of Butler and Larry (Debbie) Miller of Convoy; a sister, Doris Johnson of Decatur, Ind., and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Miller and Clifford Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 28, at Convoy United Methodist Church in Convoy, with the Rev. Gregory Leigh officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, with military graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 208 in Convoy.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 27, at Cowan & Son Stainfield Memorial Home, Convoy, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions are to a charity of donor’s choice.
AHRENS
Ralph William Ahrens, 73, of Ossian, Ind., died at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at his residence.
He was born March 9, 1931, in Aurora, Ind., the son of the late Herman C. and Ella Emma (Fark) Ahrens. On August 25, 1951, he married Marilyn Ione Dull, who survives at home.
Mr. Ahrens was employed at the Chrysler-Amplex Corporation plant in Van Wert from 1966-1983 and retired from GKN Sinter Metals in Van Wert. A 1949 graduate of Rockford High School, he attended Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Heidelberg College for two years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Mark (Michelle) Ahrens of Ossian; two daughters, Sherry Maurizi of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Pamela Mottinger of Hollansburg; one brother, Herman (Lorene) Ahrens Jr. of Lansdale, Pa.; a sister, Ruth (Edison) Klingler of Kenton; one sister-in-law, Madonna Ahrens of Celina, and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Ahrens, and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 29, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastors Tim Byrd and Tim Ahrens officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

RUNNION
Ralph R. "Pete" Runnion, 84, of Van Wert, died at 7:10 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2004, at Van Wert Manor nursing home in Van Wert.
He was born December 5, 1919, in Van Wert, the son of the late S. Delbert and Florine (Bowers) Runnion. On June 18, 1941, he married Patricia L. Craft, who died September 14, 2000.
Mr. Runnion retired after 10 years as Food Careers instructor for Vantage Career Center in Van Wert. He was former food service director of St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., and before that, was a partner in the Bar 30 Steakhouse and Yours & Mine Restaurant, both in Van Wert. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert, he was also a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 178; Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and Van Wert Kiwanis Club, for which he served as a past secretary-treasurer.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl "Cheri" (Robert) Exline and Kimberly "Kim" (David Clouse, both of Van Wert; a brother, Robert W. (Arlene) Runnion of Van Wert; four grandchildren, Shelley Bokmiller of Chesapeake, Va., Robert "Rob" Exline Jr. of Dallas, Texas; Dr. Troy Clouse of Elkhart, Ind., and Tonia Verville of Ohio City, and three great-grandchildren, Emma and Rachel Verville and Peyton Clouse.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Runnion.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with military graveside rites conducted by the combined honor units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
Calling hours are 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, at the funeral home.

JACKSON
Alice I. Jackson, 87, of Van Wert, died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born September 26, 1916, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Clinton and Cora Belle (Showalter) Kesler. On December 25, 1939, in Van Wert, she married Carl S. Jackson, who died September 4, 1993.
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and had also worked at several different businesses in Van Wert. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert.
Survivors include two daughters, Trina (Robert) Hall of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kathy (Dennis) Van Eman of Convoy; a daughter-in-law, Ruthie Jackson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one brother, Lawrence (Mary) Kesler of Venice, Fla., a sister, Mary (Milo) Keltner of Van Wert; five grandchildren, Chris Hall, Scott Jackson, Kellie La Par, Amy Neidemire and Brian Van Eman, and four great-grandchildren, Dalton Reichert, Hannah Reichert, Kayleigh La Par and Connor Neidemire.
She was preceded in death by a son, James A. Jackson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Sharon Stonerock officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

BAXTER
Virginia Louise Baxter, 97, of Delphos, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos.
She was born December 31, 1906, in Roanoke, Ind., the daughter of the late Thomas K. and Bessie (Welch) Biggs. She married Roy D. Baxter, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Baxter was a homemaker and a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Delphos and its women's group. She also was a charter member of the Delphos chapter, Order of Eastern Star; Golden Age Club; Child Conservation League and Grandmother's Club.
Survivors include a son, Richard Baxter of Grosse Point, Mich.; one daughter, Kathryn J. Baxter-Hawk of Howe, Ind.; 19 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, James, Robert and Thomas Baxter, and a brother, Thomas Biggs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 4, at Harter & Schier Memorial Chapel in Delphos, with Pastor Harry Tolhurst officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 3, at the funeral home, where an Easter Star service will be held that evening.
