BARBERTON -- Louis Fratt, 78, of Barberton, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Hospice Care Center in Fairlawn. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m., at Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, with Pastor John Ginty officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron, where military rites will be conducted. Friends may call today (Tuesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Fairlawn 44333. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Helen Fratt; daughters, Linda Dodd and her husband, Walter, Deborah Tasker and her husband, James, and Donna Vinson and her fiance, Paul Long; grandchildren, Melinda, James, Cynthia, Beth, Teresa and Helena; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Cody and James; brothers, Sam Fratt and Anthony Fratt Sr.; and sisters, Rose Piccalo and Catherine Fratt; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Fratt.

Frank Pulley
DOVER -- Frank Norman Pulley, 69, 2000 N. Wooster Ave., died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Union Hospital in Dover. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover, with the Rev. John Clark officiating, with the eulogy given by his nephew, Gene McNeely of Medina. Burial will be at Dover Burial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Dover Faith United Methodist Church; or to Comfort Inn in Dover, where out-of-town friends and family can make accommodations. Frank is survived by his long-time friend and companion, Jane Calhoun; a son, Larry Pulley of the home and his beloved dog "Lucky;" a brother, Monroe Pulley of New Philadelphia; sisters, Anna Lou York of Apple Creek and Maxine Gardner of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alfred Begert
DALTON -- Alfred J. Begert, 88, of Dalton, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, with the Rev. Timothy Hull officiating. Burial will be at Dalton Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Dalton, or one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Community Church, 18600 Davis Road, Dalton; or to Dalton Fire Department, P.O. Box 134, Dalton 44618. He was born March 30, 1910 in Orrville to Fred and Alta (Stuckey) Begert and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a resident of Dalton for 60 years and in 1975, retired from the Eaton Corp. Surviving are a daughter, Sara Ann Begert of Dalton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Mabel Begert of Wooster and Glenn and Beverly Begert of Marshallville; and sisters, Mary Wilson and her husband, Richard, of Perrysville, Helen Oxenrider of Nankin, Emma Geiser of Smithville and Lorna Weibe of Orrville.

Raymond Silvis
MASSILLON -- Raymond E. Silvis, 89, of Massillon, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Massillon Community Hospital. He was the father of William Silvis and his wife, Donna, of Dalton. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot. Friends may call Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Dalton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Massillon, 730 Duncan St., SW, Massillon 44646. He was born Nov. 27, 1909 in Stark County to William and Clara (Diekmann) Silvis and was a 1929 graduate of Massillon High School. He held a track record from 1928-29 at Washington High and had attended Bethany College in West Virginia. Surviving in addition to his son, are a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Bob Brown of Redwood Valley, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Roszman of North Canton; and a brother, Donald Silvis of Rocky River.

Tony Baker
KILLBUCK -- Tony Joe Baker, 52, 9490 Township Road, 92, died Tuesday evening, March 9, 1999, at his home after an extended illness. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Brother Vernon Dolin officiating. Burial will be at Baker Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be made to Holmes County Hospice, 931 Wooster Road, Millersburg 44654. He was born Nov. 18, 1946 in Holmes County to Flavil and Gladys (Parker) Baker and was married to Trudy M. Baker. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Bradley James Baker and his wife, Amy, Leslie James Baker and Katie Marie Baker, all of Killbuck; his father of Killbuck; brothers, Jerry Floyd Baker of Killbuck and Everett Baker of Millersburg; and a sister, Bernice Christenson of Florida.

Homer Butdorff
ASHLAND -- Homer J. Butdorff, 76, of Ashland, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Columbus. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with the Rev. David Carter officiating. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Wayne County, 5318 Tannerville Road, Orrville 44667. He was born Nov. 2, 1922 in Homerville to John and Effie (Grissinger) Butdorff and married Mary Jane Rumbaugh in 1942. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Mrs. Richard (Penny) Fryman of Ashland, Jeffrey Butdorff of Strongsville and William Butdorff of Coldwater, Mich.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Janice Henning of Elyria and Joyce Ferguson of Medina.

Florence Nichols
WEST SALEM -- Florence W. Nichols, 81, of West Salem, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Smithville-Western Care Center, Wooster, after a long illness. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Pastor Allen Imhoff officiating. Burial will be at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Valley City. She was born Jan. 16, 1918 in Medina County to Frank and Alice (Crow) Baisch and married Ralph Nichols on May 7, 1939. He died in 1991. She was a homemaker all of her life. Surviving are children and their spouses, Bonnie and Robert Henson of West Salem, Brenda Nichols of the home and William and Freda Nichols of Lodi; and grandchildren, Scott Nichols and his wife, Kris, Teri Nichols and Alice Henson; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Nichols.

COSHOCTON -- Joshua James Carpenter, 24, 44490 County Road 19, died Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 1999, from injuries sustained in a one car accident. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Berlin Christian Fellowship, with the Revs. Wendell Beal, George Keller and Tim Troyer officiating. Burial will be at Berlin Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg. The family suggests contributions be made to Bible and Tract Ministry in care of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 343, Berlin 44610. He was born Sept. 24, 1974 in Titusville, Pa., to George E. and Linda R. Carpenter and married Traci Hershberger on Dec. 19, 1998. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife, are his parents of Clark; a sister, Charity Carpenter of Clark; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Myrtle Robinson of Absecon, N.J.; and paternal grandmother, Birdie Carpenter of Newport Richie, Fla.

BIG PRAIRIE -- Matthew Scott Brady, 24, 6275 Township Road 501, died Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 1999. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Nashville Church of Christ, with the Revs. Larry Burgett, Dan Kirtlan and Biff Bowman officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, or one hour prior to the services at the church. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Jay Brady of Big Prairie; grandparents, Millard Burgett and Mabel Stewart, both of Shreve and Alma Brady of Wooster; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Beulah Gambier
WOOSTER -- Beulah M. Gambier, 89, 200 S. Market St., died Saturday evening, Feb. 27, 1999, at Horn Nursing Home, Wooster. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Gene Hill officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. She was born Sept. 4, 1909 in Millersburg to Charles and Myrtle (Hoffman) Ling and married Irvin Gambier on Nov. 13, 1933. He died Nov. 21, 1973. There are no immediate survivors.

Mary Weahry
CRESTON -- Mary Ellen (Massie) Weahry, 79, of Creston, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Akron City Hospital, after a period of declining health. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with the Rev. James McCurdy officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Marcella 'Peg' Sage
ORRVILLE -- Marcella L. "Peg" Sage, 86, of Orrville, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Wooster Community Hospital, after a heart attack. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville, with the Rev. Paul Wysocki officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Orrville Public Library, 230 N. Main St., Orrville 44667. She was born June 12, 1912 in Wooster to Albert Verge and Carmen (Bruce) Rush and married Russell J. Sage on June 11, 1938. He died in August of 1987. Surviving are children and their spouses, Mike and Rose Sage of Bethesda, Md., Tim and Linda Sage of Loudonville and Gretchen and James Taft of Little Valley, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Marie Winter
NAPLES, Fla. -- Marie E. Winter, 93, formerly of Holiday Manor, 996 Palm Drive, Naples, Fla., formerly of Wooster, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Traditions at Bath in Cuyahoga Falls. Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wooster, with the Rev. Edwin Dykstra officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster. Those who wish may make contributions to the American Red Cross, Wayne County Chapter, 124 N. Walnut St., Wooster 44691. She was born Sept. 1, 1905 in Painesville to John Frederick and Marie Anna (Walter) Menges and married H. Frank Winter on Sept. 15, 1928. He died Feb. 18, 1987. Surviving are children and their spouses, Joan and Kenneth Chellis of Colville, Wash., Patricia and George Raeder of Akron, Dr. H. Frank Winter Jr. of St. Louis, and John F. and Mary Winter of Southport, N.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Jade Everett Bailey, 19, 16748 Dog Road, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. SMITHVILLE -- Ralph B. Hill, 95, formerly of 250 W. Center St., died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, 1999, at Westview Manor Nursing Center in Wooster. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Smithville, with the Revs. Steve Olson and Robert Venhuis officiating, followed by burial at the church cemetery. Friends of the family may call at the church tonight (Monday) from 7-9, or one hour prior to the services. Custer Funeral Home in Wooster is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 7605 Pleasant Home Road, Smithville, Ohio 44677. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert G. (Nancy R.) Riedel of Fairview Park, Ohio, and Mrs. George (Barbara L.) Purnell of Erial, N.J.; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandaughter.

D. Ivan Dykstra
WOOSTER -- Dr. D. Ivan Dykstra, 83, of Wooster, formerly of Holland, Mich., died early Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathryn; sons and their wives, Brian and Ruth Dykstra of Wooster and Darrell and Virginia Dykstra of Macomb, Ill.; a grandson, Derek Dykstra and wife, Kirsten, of Spring Lake, Mich., and a granddaughter, Kristin Dykstra of Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister, Ava Berkebile of Centreville, Va.; brothers, Wesley Dykstra of Alma, Mich., and Vergil Dykstra of Bethesda, Md.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dykstra of Sioux Center, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. A private family memorial service will be held. Those wishing to make memorial contributions, may make them in lieu of flowers to Home Health Services, Wooster Community Hospital, 1761 Beall Ave., Wooster; or to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691. RITTMAN -- Thomas D. Scheetz, 56, 13159 Doylestown Road, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Akron General Medical Center. Surviving are children and their spouses, Arthur W. and Sherrie Sampsel of Plainfield, Douglas K. and Lynn Sampsel of Warsaw, Gordon and Carmen Sampsel of Prescott, Mich., and Debra Graham of Coshocton; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Borden of Walhonding.

NORTH LAWRENCE -- Nettie B. Indoe, 92, of North Lawrence, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, with the Rev. John Miller officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. at Granger Cemetery. Friends may call Friday at 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. She was born July 17, 1906 in Granger Township to Segal and Edith (Lucas) Brown and married Harold Indoe on March 9, 1929. He died previously. MARSHALLVILLE -- William G. Matson, 78, of Marshallville, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown, with the Rev. Joe Routh officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown. He was born July 17, 1920 in Marshallville to Clarence and Carrie (Eich) Matson and married Martha H. Truex on May 24, 1946. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Linda J. Lance of Doylestown; grandchildren, Jeanie Lemon and husband, Mike, and David Lance and wife, Jessie, all of Doylestown; great-grandchildren, Cody, Matson, Jonathan, Austin and Madison; and a sister, Marjorie Chapman of Marshallville.

Gladys Dunham
WOOSTER -- Gladys E. Dunham, 87, 1628 Gasche St., died Tuesday evening, March 9, 1999, at Wooster Community Hospital, after a short illness. Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Kenneth Peterson will officiate. A luncheon will follow at the Fredericksburg United Presbyterian Church. Friends of the family may meet at 2:30 p.m. at Fryburg Cemetery, Millersburg, for the committal service. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Fredericksburg United Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Mill St., Fredericksburg, 44627. She was born Nov. 19, 1911 in Fredericksburg to Melvin and Orra E. (Fry) Summers and married Harlan T. Dunham on July 22, 1939 in Fredericksburg. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are, sons, Curt S. Dunham and his wife, Dottie L., of Delaware and Douglas L. Dunham of Mansfield; grandchildren, Douglas J. Dunham, Lora M. Schmitz, Melissa Ann and Bradley Allen Dunham; a great-granddaughter, Megan E. Dunham; and a brother, Earl Summers and his wife, Mary, of Wooster.

James Baker
ORRVILLE -- Lames D. "Jim" Baker, 69, 533 Lake St., died Tuesday night, March 9, 1999, at his residence. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, with the Rev. Paul Wysocki officiating. There will be no calling hours. Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Wayne County Branch, P.O. Box 267, Wooster 44691. He was born June 30, 1929 in Massillon to Victor C. and Anna J. (Wayson) Baker and married Elizabeth Felix on Dec. 6, 1969 in Rittman. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are a stepson, John Fleming and his wife, Cindy, and a stepdaughter, Karen Pumneo, all of Orrville; six step-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Baker and his wife, Margaret, of Dalton; and a sister, Patricia Elliott of Canton.

Blake Miller
WALNUT CREEK -- Blake R. Miller, 84, P.O. Box 159, died Tuesday morning, March 9, 1999, at the Holmes County Home, after an extended illness. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated. Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, is handling arrangements. The family suggests contributions be made to the Holmes County Home, 7260 State Route 83, Holmesville 44663. He was born July 11, 1914 in Kidron to Milo and Bessie (Pfister) Miller and married Lola Flinner on June 7, 1940. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children and their spouses, Nancy Soyers of Boardman, Vivian and Duane Miller of Berlin, Brenda and Jimi Differ of Hancock, Maine, and Sandy and Richard Miller of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Kandel of Berlin and Mildred Plance of Walnut Creek; and brothers, Donald Miller of Walnut Creek, Robert Miller of Canton and Ralph Miller of Manitou Springs, Colo.

Maynard Bricker
WESLACO, Texas -- Maynard D. Bricker, 84, of Weslaco, Texas, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Knapp Medical Center. He was the brother of Kenneth Bricker of Creston. Memorial services were held Monday, March 8, at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco, Texas. The Rev. Myron Ricketts officiated. Surviving in addition to his brother, are a sister, Verla M. Beaver of Fort Meyers, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife, Ilean (Johnson) Bricker, died in March of 1997. They were married in May of 1938.
