RITTMAN -- Harold W. Brown, 94, formerly of North Hickin Avenue, died Monday morning, Aug. 24, 1998, at the Apostolic Christian Home. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, with the Revs. Ron Heasley and F.D. Donaldson officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Rittman United Methodist Church, 211 N. Metzger Ave., Rittman 44270. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Geraldine) Champlin of Rittman; granddaughters, Barbara Champlin of Westerville and Debra (Miles) Cumberland of Dublin; great-grandchildren, Kelly Cumberland of Dublin and Chris Cumberland of Ypsilanti, Mich.

Mabel Young
CRESTON -- Mabel I. Young, 89, of Pine Street, died Monday, Aug. 24, at her home. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with the Rev. James McCurdy officiating. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving are a nephew, Walter Young of Wooster, with whom she had made her home for the past three years; and several other nephews and nieces.

Elmer Miller
APPLE CREEK -- Elmer S. Miller, 28, 3914 S. Kohler Road, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at MetroHealth Medical Center. Services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Dan Zook officiating. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery, Wayne County. Friends may call anytime at the residence. Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg is handling arrangements. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, William, Sam, Menno, Lena, Cevilla, Rebecca and Fannie, all of the home; his parents; sisters, Mrs. Eli (Barbara) Yoder and Mrs. Noah (Lenna) Troyer, both of Apple Creek, Mrs. Levi (Fannie) Petersheim and Mrs. Menno (Mary) Petersheim, both of Paoli, Ind., Mrs. Sam (Rebecca) Swartzentruber of Millersburg and Mattie Miller of Akron.

WOOSTER -- Julia A. Smith, 100, 1715 Mechanicsburg Road, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 23, 1998, at West View Manor. Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Christopher Cottrel officiating. Burial will be at Congress Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Louvane Thompson of Wooster; grandchildren, Donna Hudson, Joy Watts, David and Jon Thompson; great-grandchildren, Paul Hudson, Greg, Andrea and Amy Watts, Brian, Jesse, Julia and Becky Thompson.

WOOSTER -- Altha L. Ewing, 88, formerly of 1056 Mindy Lane, died Sunday morning, Aug. 23, 1998, at Hanover House, Massillon. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. J. William Lofgren officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Surviving are nieces, Norma Haws of Canton and Ruth Baker of Gahanna.

Isa Harvey
CRESTON -- Isa D. Harvey, 91, of Coulter Street, Creston, formerly of Rittman, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at Meadowview Care Center in Seville. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, with the Rev. O.J. Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Surviving are daughters, Jeanne (Julius) Rosenberg and Pat (Ellis) Stepp, both of Creston; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Howell of Rittman.

William Croskey
SHREVE -- William Gary Croskey, 65, 393 E. Robinson St., died Friday, Aug. 21, at Wooster Community Hospital. A memorial graveside service will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Shreve, with military rites being conducted by Shreve American Legion Post 67. There will be no calling hours. Johnston-Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve is handling arrangements. Surviving are children, Michael K. Croskey, Deb Miller and Darcy Croskey, all of Shreve; stepchildren, Annette Deneke, Gregory Dalessandro and Sharon Crosser, all of Orrville; four grandchildren; and a brother, Bob Croskey of Lothian, Md.

Beaton Pettengill
WOOSTER -- Beaton F. Pettengill, 75, 336 Dorchester Road, died Friday afternoon, Aug. 21, at Wooster Community Hospital. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Ralph Fogel and Samuel W. Speck will officiate. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to Muskingum College. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, John B. and Lloydean Pettengill of Grand Rapids, Mich., and a son, Kip Pettengill of Wooster; a granddaughter, Gwyneth Pettengill; and a brother, John W. Pettengill of Indianapolis.

Dorothy Todd
RITTMAN -- Dorothy H. Todd, 68, of 179 Home St. died Friday, Aug. 21, at her home. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. from Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. She was born May 10, 1930 in Barberton to David and Daisy (Belkey) Blouir and married Hoyt Todd. He died in 1984. She lived in Rittman since 1960, and was a homemaker and a member of the Rittman First Church of Christ. Surviving are a daughter, Karen (David) Erhard of Sterling and sons, Curtis Todd of Rossville, Ga., Kraig Todd and Keith Todd, both of Rittman; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Blouir of Barberton, and Louie Blouir of South Carolina; sisters, Hettie Mitchell of Sun City, Ariz., Elizabeth Benchott of Dallas, Betty Bramlett and Hazel Phillips both of Akron, and Daisy Rollins of Barberton. In addition to her husband, a son, Kenneth, died in 1995.

Milo Bridenstine
WEST SALEM -- Milo P. Bridenstine, 77, of West Salem, died Thursday, Aug. 20, at his home. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Red Haw United Methodist Church, Polk, with the Revs. John Dailey and John Fitch officiating. Burial will be at Red Haw Cemetery, Polk. Friends may call tonight (Friday) from 7-9 at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, or a half hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Red Haw United Methodist Church, 1101 County Road 175, Polk 44866. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Paul L. (Betty) Bridenstine of West Salem, Lee (Sue) Bridenstine of Gaines, Mich., and Lakalynn (William E.) Arnold of Orrville; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Earl (Caryol) Bridenstine of Smithville.

Benny Yoder
MILLERSBURG -- Benny J. Yoder, 18-month-old son of Jonas D. and Anna Mae (Miller) Yoder, 4654 County Road 19, died Thursday, Aug. 20, at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron. Services will be Sunday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Henry Nisley officiating. Burial will be at the Erb Family Cemetery, Clark Township, Holmes County. Friends may call anytime at the residence. Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, is handling arrangements. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Junior J., and sisters, Martha, Edna, Linda and Mary Ann, all of the home; grandparents, David and Mary Ann Yoder of Millersburg and Dan and Anna Miller of New Bedford; and a great-grandfather, Roy D. Miller of Baltic.

Betty Martin
WOOSTER -- Betty L. Martin, 62, 333 E. Larwill St., died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 20, at Austin Health Care Center. Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Reedsburg Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, is handling arrangements. Those who wish may make contributions to First Church of Christ Scientist, 1736 Cleveland Road, Wooster 44691. Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Victor (Pam) Martin of St. John, Kan., Mrs. Don (Christine) Yockey and Laurie Ann Martin, both of Wooster; grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer and James Bakerlis, Eric Yockey and Brenna Martin; sisters, Mrs. Jim (Susan) Jones of Baltimore, Md., and Lillian Diller of Saint Elmo, Ill.; and a brother, George (Zona) Smith of Naples, Fla.

Ammon Hostetler Jr.
ORRVILLE -- Ammon J. Hostetler Jr., 65, 1200 N. Crownhill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville. Services will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. Bruce Hostetler officiating. Burial will be at East Chippewa Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Surviving are brothers, Norman Hostetler of Marshallville, John, Alvin, Irvin and Homer Hostetler, all of Orrville and Orie Hostetler of Lake Wales, Fla.; and a sister, Isa Gochenaur of Apple Creek.

Tom Stradley Jr.
BRANTLEY, Ala. -- R.T. "Tom" Stradley Jr., 49, P.O. Box 147-A, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, at his residence from an accidental drowning. He was the son-in-law of Maxine Wirt of Wooster. Burial was in Glenwood, Ala. Surviving in addition to his mother-in-law and wife, are a daughter, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Agnes Crawford
WALNUT CREEK -- Agnes Crawford, 88, of Carlisle Court, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. John G. Crawford officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Creek Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving are a son, the Rev. John G. Crawford, and a sister, Mary Castle, both of Cleveland.

Frances Olewiler
ASHLAND -- Frances L. Olewiler, 84, formerly of Ashland County Road 2075 (near Perrysville), died Wednesday morning, Aug. 19, at Brethren Care Center, Ashland, after an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Ashland, with the Rev. Ivan V. Beatty officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene, 1196 Township Road 1506, Ashland 44805. Surviving in addition to her husband are sisters, Naomi Riffle and Marjorie Heldenbrand, both of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.

Mattie Miller
HOLMESVILLE -- Mattie J. Miller, 79, 7577 Township Road 551, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at her home after an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Malva Yoder officiating. Burial will be at the Yoder Cemetery, Holmes County. Friends may call anytime at the residence. Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg is handling arrangements. Surviving in addition to her husband are children, David (Arie) Miller and Mrs. David (Erma) Troyer, both of Millersburg, John (Frieda) Miller and Allen (Betty Ann) Miller, both of Holmesville and Mrs. Aden (Nora) Kurtz of Dundee; 37 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brothers, Dan J. Weaver of Millersburg, Ben J. Weaver of Fredericksburg and Abe J. Weaver of Sarasota, Fla.; and sisters, Mrs. Harry (Sarah) Yoder of Blacksville, S.C., and Mrs. Malva (Fannie) Shetler of Fredericksburg.

James Frost
HOUSTON -- James M. Frost, 53, 850 Briarwillow, Houston, former Wayne County sheriff, died in Houston. Private graveside services will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, at the convenience of the family. The Rev. James Powell will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne County Sheriff's Reserve, 201 W. North St., Wooster 44691. Surviving are a son, Jason Frost of Canton; his mother of Orrville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and John Morris of Orrville.

John Johnston Jr.
WOOSTER -- John C. Johnston Jr., a founding member of the law partnership of Critchfield, Critchfield, Critchfield & Johnston in Wooster, Ohio, died Sunday, August 16, 1998 at the age of 82, after an extended illness. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marie (Wolf) Johnston, whom he married Sept. 6, 1947; sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and Gennie S. of Wooster and Gordon W. and Catherine T. of Columbus; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth "Beth", Douglas, Amy and Ty; a sister, Marilynn (Mrs. C.P.) Gruber of Binghamton, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at McGaw Chapel on the campus of The College of Wooster at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 1998. The family will receive friends at McGaw Chapel after the service and from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Miriam Hofacre
DALTON -- Miriam R. Hofacre, 87, of Dalton, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, at Doctors Hospital near Massillon, after a brief illness. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton, with the Rev. Dr. H.H. Fischer officiating. Burial will be at South Lawn Cemetery in Beach City. Friends may call tonight (Wednesday) from 7-9 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to West Lebanon United Methodist Women, 6082 S. West Lebanon Road, Dalton 44618. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Vida Hofacre of Dalton, Dr. Gene and Molly Hofacre of Yorba Linda, Calif., and David and Susan Hofacre of Massillon; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and triplet great-grandchildren.

ORRVILLE -- Helen House, 80, 1874 Kenwood Drive, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 18, 1998, at her residence, after a long illness. Services will be Thursday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. Dan Wingate officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. RITTMAN -- Glen R. Nolt, 74, 28 Hillcrest Drive, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church in Rittman, with the Rev. Bud Olszewski officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, or one hour prior to the services at the church. JEROMESVILLE -- Clara A. Winbigler, 96, 5 Huron St., died Monday afternoon, Aug. 17, at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland. Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville, with the Rev. John Collins officiating. Burial will be at Jeromesville Cemetery. Friends may call tonight (Wednesday) from 7-9 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Jeromesville Christian Church; or to Jeromesville Emergency Squad. Surviving are children, Phyllis (Kenneth) Wise of Jeromesville and Donald (Joan) Winbigler of Ashland; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ethel McElroy
WADSWORTH -- Ethel (Farnsworth) McElroy, 98, of Wadsworth, died Monday, Aug. 17, at Magnolia Care & Rehabilitation Center, after a lengthy illness. She was the mother of Elva Gordon of Rittman. Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Hilliard-Cox-Mullaney Funeral Home in Wadsworth, with the Rev. James D. Foster officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wadsworth United Methodist church, 195 Broad St., Wadsworth 44281; or to a charity of the donor's choice. Surviving in addition to her daughter, are another daughter, Ruby (Ken) Rasor of Wadsworth; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ervin Hodge
WOOSTER -- Ervin A. Hodge passed away at his home on August 13, 1998, in East Union Township on the farm where he was born on October 5, 1925. His parents were Clayton and Marie (Richwine) Hodge. Surviving are his wife, Marion (Dennis) Hodge, whom he married June 19, 1949; children, Cherie Brasee, Daniel and Tamara Hodge, Deborah and James Morris, Jon and Peggy Hodge, Thomas and Bonnie Hodge, Laurie and Richard Harsh, and Joel Hodge; 13 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; four step-great-grandchildren; brothers and a sister, Robert Hodge of Canal Fulton, Richard Hodge of Shreve, and Sevilla Jewell of Wooster. Calling hours will be at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home on Friday from 6-9 p.m. Services will be held at East Union Lutheran Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at East Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.

Everett Chamberlin
CLYDE -- Everett R. Chamberlin, 87, of Clyde, formerly of Wooster, died Sunday evening, Aug. 16 in Clyde. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. James Christensen officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, or one hour prior to the services. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Re Chamberlin of Green Springs; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Robert Clark of Grants Pass, Ore.
