CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Donna Faye (Rigney) Calvert, 39, of Cuyahoga Falls, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001.
She is survived by several aunts and uncles in the Wayne County area.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Barberton, with pastor Sherman Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born June 11, 1961, in Wadsworth to William Homer and Bertha Irene Rigney.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas C. Calvert; children Jessica and Jamie Calvert; her parents of Cuyahoga Falls; a sister, Laura (Christopher) Davis of Deerfield; two nieces; and her grandmother, Anna Rigney of Manchester, Tenn.

Lester McCullough
MILLERSBURG -- Lester W. McCullough, 86, of Millersburg, died Saturday morning, Feb. 3, 2001, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, after an extended illness.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. John Damron officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville.
Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Paint Valley to James and Jennie (Mackey) McCullough and married Mabel Elizabeth Nuckols on Sept. 6, 1938. She died Nov. 23, 1981.
Surviving is a daughter, Beverly Ann McCullough of Millersburg.

Thomas Smoot
ADSWORTH -- Dr. Thomas E. Smoot, 76, of Wadsworth, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Hospice Care Center in Copley.
There will be no services or calling hours. Burial of the cremains will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
Arrangements are being handled by Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron 44333.
He was born Aug. 11, 1924, in Big Prairie to Clarence and Mildred (Crist) Smoot and married Betty J. Young. She survives.
Other survivors include daughters Chris (Bob) Schmeltzer of Rittman and Karen (Mike) Schmeltzer and Connie (Bill) Krauss, both of Wadsworth; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Gish, of Olathe, Kan.

Thomas Lovell
WOOSTER -- Thomas E. Lovell, 67, 3283 Lakeview Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, with pastor Grant Galloway officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be conducted.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, P.O. Box 266, Wooster 44691.
He was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Worcester, Mass., to Raymond and Mildred (Lewis) Lovell.
Surviving are his wife, Carol (Crites) Lovell, whom he married May 22, 1979; children Terri (Jeffery) Council of Newberg, Ore., Thomas Lovell of Pendleton, Ore., and Todd Lovell of Issaquah, Wash.; stepchildren Vickie Frazier of Northfield, Rick Spigelmire and Steve (Robyn) Spigelmire, both of Wooster, and Cheryl (Tom) Underwood of West Salem; eight grandchildren; and brothers, Kenneth (Eleanor) Lovell of Lancaster, Calif., and Steve (Susan) Lovell of West Port, Mass.

Cleva Butler
WOOSTER -- Cleva E. Butler, 85, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, Feb. 2, 2001, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville.
Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Richard F. Ross officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call 1 1/2 hours prior to the services.

He was born Feb. 19, 1915, in Brinkhaven to Earl and Lillian (Kyser) Butler and married Jeanne Hull on July 23, 1940 in Fredericktown. She survives.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife, are daughters, Michele Shelly of Smithville and Shawna (Ken) Mays of Sunbury; grandchildren, Ty and Kristine Shelly, Jennifer Stanton and Bradley Mays; brothers, Alva Butler of Florida, and James Butler of Brinkhaven; and a sister, Hazel Butler of Millersburg.

Charles Paridon
DOYLESTOWN -- Charles A. Paridon, 76, of Doylestown, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with Father David McCarthy as celebrant. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown, where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Educational Endowment Trust, 161 W. Clinton St., Doylestown 44230.
He was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Doylestown to Charles A. and Colleta (Rech) Paridon and married Florence Golubov on Oct. 6, 1945. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, Chuck (Gayle) Paridon of Sacramento, Calif., and Todd Paridon of Doylestown; two granddaughters; sisters, Regina Jung of Doylestown, Anastia Trainor of Madison, Tenn., Rosella (Joe) Coen of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Catherine (Jim) Humbert of Canal Fulton, Barbara (Chuck) Sungy of Doylestown and Philomena (Dave) Holvey of Akron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy Smith
BURBANK -- Roy Kenneth Smith, 77, 10282 Franchester Road, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Medina County Home.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, with Pastor Paul E. Donihue officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born March 13, 1923, in Wooster to William and Ellen (Barnes) Smith and married Lucille Corns on March 18, 1943. She died previously.
Surviving are a son, Darrell (Kathie) Smith of Seville; grandchildren, Melissa Smith and Michael (Dusty) Smith; great-granddaughters, Hallie and K.D. Smith of Seville; and sisters, Opal (Robert) Chance, Dorothy (Cliffton) Daugherty and Hazel Sperry, all of Wooster.

Harry Bartoe
GOSHEN, Ind. -- Harry C. Bartoe, 85, 2400 College Ave., Goshen, Ind., formerly of Orrville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Carriage Manor in Goshen.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, Ind., with the Rev. Charlie Winkelman officiating. Burial will be at Violett Cemetery, Goshen, Ind.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
He was born March 27, 1915, in Vandergrift, Pa., to James Ray and Mabel M. (Snyder) Bartoe and married Elma McLaughlin on Sept. 2, 1939 in Johnstown, Pa. She died Oct. 22, 1996.
Surviving are a son, Curtis (Carol) Bartoe of Goshen, Ind.; a grandson; and sisters, Thelma (George) Johnston and Mildred (Russell) Cribbs, both of New Kensington, Pa.

Bernadette Isch
PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Bernadette Boudreau Isch, of Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Cemetery in Marshallville, where military rites will be conducted. Father David McCarthy will officiate.
Surviving is a nephew.

Edna Moder
NAVARRE -- Edna V. Moder, 86, of Navarre, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Massillon Community Hospital, after a period of declining health.
She was the mother of Donald Moder of Wooster.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster, with Lieutenants Ralph and Diane Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Stanwood Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born June 30, 1914, in Elton to Emanuel and Mary (Everett) Judd and married Maxwell E. Moder on May 5, 1933. He died Feb. 11, 1999.
Other survivors include children, Betty Knight of Massillon, James Moder of Beach City and William Moder of Navarre; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sis Judd and Grace Fahrni, both of Navarre; and brothers, George Judd of Navarre and Kenneth Judd of Massillon.

Robert Johnston
CRESTON -- Robert D. Johnston, 75, 4507 E. Steiner Road, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at West View Manor Nursing Home, Wooster, after a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
There will be no calling hours. Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9282 Acme Road, Seville 44273.
He was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Bakerstown, Pa., to Charles M. and Helen May (Knittel) Johnston and married Rosalie Montean on April 10, 1965. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Gregory D. Johnston of Meridian, Idaho, Jeffrey D. Johnston of Los Angeles, Calif., and Barbara A. Johnston of Wausau, Wis.; and grandchildren, Erin Marie, Adam Robert and Deven Ann Kautza.

Cletis Jackson
WOOSTER -- Cletis Jackson, 76, 4400 Melrose Drive, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Wooster Community Hospital.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Rittman, with the Rev. Bret Deffenbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, or one hour prior services at the church.
He was born May 19, 1924, in Wayne County, W.Va., to Richard and Nora (Riggs) Jackson and married Helen Thompson. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, Roger (Carolyn) Jackson of Burbank, Gary (Fatima) Jackson of Wadsworth and Doug (Cathy) Jackson of Rittman; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Jackson of Rittman; and sisters, Mildred Pelfrey of Rittman and Christabell Thompson of Fort Gay, W.Va.

Myron Simons
PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP -- Myron B. Simons, 74, of Painesville Township, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at his home.
He was the stepfather of Patricia Sue (Tom) Sand of Wooster.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Community Christian Church, 370 Hale Road, Painesville, with the Rev. Richard Weller officiating. Burial will be at Perry Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor 44060; or to Community Christian Church.
He was born Jan. 7, 1927, in Upshur, W.Va.
Surviving are his second wife, Mildred L. (Franks) Simons, whom he married Nov. 21, 1976; children, Darrel (Sandra) Simons of Willoughby, Velma (Gregory) Heath of Painesville and Sally (John) Edworthy of Coconut Creek, Fla.; another stepdaughter, Janet (Duane) Bowers of Mississippi; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Janet) and Ward (Virginia) Simons and Denver (Dolly Waltz) Brady, all of Painesville; and sisters, Roberta (Lou) Davis of Ashtabula, Ardyth (William) Palmer of Painesville and Eunita Hickman of Concord.
His first wife, Ruth (Hood) Simons, died in 1976.

Ruth Wells
SHREVE -- Ruth Bernice Wells, 85, formerly of South Main Street, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the Wayne County Care Center.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve, with the Rev. Christopher P. Stewart officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Shreve.
Friends may call Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to Wayne County Care Center, 876 S. Geyers Chapel Road, Wooster 44619, for a new therapy table; or to the Wayne County Care Center Auxiliary.
She was born Jan. 18, 1916, near Fredericksburg, to George and Ellen Rhoda (Hall) Harrison and married Paul Franklin Wells in 1937. He died March 31, 1973.
Surviving are children, Diane (Rex) Dye of Shreve and Roger (Theresa) Wells of Sharon Center; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Menuez
MILLERSBURG -- Evelyn A. "Sammy" Menuez, 95, of Millersburg, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 31, 2001, at Sunset View Nursing Home in Millersburg, after an extended illness.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Millersburg, with Pastor John Wanamaker officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg.
Friends may call tonight from 7-9 at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, or one hour prior to the services at the church.
The family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of Holmes County, 931 Wooster Road, Millersburg; or to Faith Lutheran Church, 187 S. Clay St., Millersburg 44654.
She was born April 17, 1905, in Millersburg, to Harry and Stella (Cobb) Henes and married V.O. "Bud" Menuez. He died July 7, 1985.
Surviving are children, Jan L. (Lynda) Menuez of Millersburg and Sharon Braun of Worthington; grandchildren, Andrea E. Smith, Kyle V. Menuez, Eric and Kristin Braun; and great-granddaughters, Stephanie R., Kaila C. and Kennedy M. Smith and Kelsey and Madison Menuez.

Louis Samsa
WOOSTER -- Louis J. Samsa, 88, of Wooster, formerly of Parma Heights, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001.
Arrangements are being handled by Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wooster Shrine Club, 135 S. Clay St., Millersburg 44654.
He was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Cleveland, to Josip and Treza (Budovic) Samsa and married Gertrude M. Schowerth on June 7, 1947. She died previously.
Surviving are children, David (Betty) Samsa of Navarre, Laurie J. (Larry) Wagner of Wooster, Susanlou (Mark) Falcon of Elyria and Diane (Steve) Lanthorn of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Donald Scanlon Sr.
WESTLAKE -- Donald A. Scanlon Sr., 81, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001.
Dear husband of Elaine A. (Pattie), dear father of Bonnie A. Scanlon of Wooster and Donald A. Scanlon Jr. and his wife, Joann of Cleveland Heights, grandfather of Kimberly Ann Stewart of Doylestown, Tracy Alayne Nemes of Wooster, Allen Jerome Albu of Cleveland, Elizabeth Ruane Scanlon and Phillip Graham Scanlon of Cleveland Heights, great-grandfather of Kayla Ray Stewart and Megan Elaine Stewart.
Calling hours and memorial services are restricted to the family only.
Arrangements are being handled by Berry Funeral Home in Westlake.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association; or West Shore YMCA, Westlake.

Paul Hardy
WOOSTER -- Paul J. Hardy, 96, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, Feb. 1, 2001, at West View Manor Nursing Center, Wooster, where he had resided since 1992. He was formerly of Elyria.
Private family services will be held. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691; or Grace Fellowship Church of Apple Creek, P.O. Box 335, Apple Creek 44606.
He was born Sept. 23, 1904, in Mayville, Mich., to Worthington J. and Mary L. (Richens) Hardy and married Evelyn G. Rumble. She went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 1997.
Surviving are children, Robert G. (Barbara L.) Hardy and Yvonne M. (Donald J.) Morris, both of Wooster and Mary Lou (Robert L.) Buyer of LaCrescenta, Calif.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ford Hardy of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a sister, Pearl Amy of Deckerville, Mich.

James Pipes
GLENMONT -- James F. Pipes, 61, 4282 County Road 50, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 31, 2001, at Sunset View Nursing Home, Millersburg, after an extended illness.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Nashville Cemetery, with the Rev. Dale Duncan officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements.
The family suggests contributions be made to Nashville Fire Department; or Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
He was born Aug. 6, 1939, in Cuyahoga Falls, to James W. and Marjorie (Shafer) Pipes.
Surviving are a special friend and constant companion, Bonnie Myers of Glenmont; daughters, Jamie Ezekielian of Westerville and Kristie Perone of Lakeville; two grandchildren; a sister, Patsy (Bill) Mullet of Killbuck; and a brother, Clarence "Butch" (Linda) Pipes of Shreve.

Mose Nisley
APPLE CREEK -- Mose J. Nisley, 75, 7076 S. Carr Road, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 31, 2001, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, from a heart attack.
Services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Dan L. Miller officiating. Burial will be at Yoder Cemetery, Apple Creek.
Friends may call anytime at the residence.
Arrangements are being handled by Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.
He was born April 4, 1925, in Wayne County, to Jonas and Lizzie Ann Nisley and married Susie Yoder on Oct. 31, 1948. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Jonas (Susie) Nisley, Abner (Barbara) Nisley, Mose (Fannie) Nisley Jr., Roy (Sara) Nisley and Elizabeth (William) Schmucker, all of Fredericksburg, Eli (Malinda) Nisley of Holmesville, Barbara and Katie Nisley and William Nisley, all of the home; 47 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Susan (Jacob) Miller of Apple Creek.
