Leroy Holzer
WOOSTER -- Leroy Glen Holzer, 79, of Wooster and formerly of Lodi, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, Evansville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ann Louise (Bartholomai) Holzer.
He was born in Wingeville Township, Wis. on June 26, 1922 to Charles Alexander and Nellie Belle (Walker) Holzer and married Ann Louise Bartholomai. She died previously.
Mr. Holzer is survived by his daughters, Joyce Ann Burghard of Evansville, Ind., Connie Rae Romine and son-in-law, Thomas Howard Romine of Athens; a grandson and a great-grandson; a brother, Vernon Alexander (Jean) Holzer of Fennimore, Wis.; 15 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi on Sunday from 7-9 p.m.
Services will be officiated by the Rev. David Howell on Monday at Lodi United Methodist Church with visitation from 10-11 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m., followed by graveside services.
Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or the Lodi United Methodist Church.

Connie Conner
WOOSTER -- Connie L. Conner, 44, 4775 E. Messner Road, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Norman Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.
Those who wish may make contributions to Highland Avenue Church of God, 669 W. Highland Ave., Wooster 44691 in her memory.
She was born Aug. 11, 1957, in Bellaire, to Ralph William and Edna May Palmer.
Surviving are her husband, Kelly Conner, whom she married Sept. 19, 1998; children, Nicole Saffell and Scott Saffell of Wooster and Jim Saffell of Apple Creek; stepchildren, Allison Conner of Glenmont, Ashley Conner, Amber Conner and Allyse Conner, all of Millersburg; four grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph William Palmer Jr. of Lancaster and James Edward Palmer of Belmont and three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Ethel) McFarland of St. Clairsville, Mrs. Oscar (Shirley) Monroe of Shadyside and Carol Glass of Jacobsburg.

C. Ronald Hans
LOUDONVILLE -- C. Ronald Hans, 71, 525 E. Main St., died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2001, at Samaritan Regional Health Systems, Ashland.
Memorial services will be held Monday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Loudonville, with Pastor Terry E. Ruther officiating.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 6-9 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Loudonville Fire Department/EMS Inc., 200 N. Market St., Loudonville 44842 or Zion Lutheran Church, 222 E. Main St., Loudonville 44842.
Mr. Hans was born June 13, 1930, in Loudonville, to Charles Lewis and Helen L. (Wise) Hans.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Young) Hans, whom he married May 17, 1952; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Ronald Kettering of Loudonville, Rhonda and Paul Sipp of Upper Arlington and Judi and Mark Majka of Powell; four grandchildren and a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Doug Koch of Loudonville.

Mary Fromm
AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Mary Ann (Thorley) Fromm, 32, 880 Lake Myrtle Road, Auburndale, Fla. and formerly of Wooster, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at her home in Florida.
Private graveside services will be held with the Rev. John Long officiating. Burial will be at New Pittsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, Wooster.
Contributions may be made to a fund that has been established for the children's education to the Pioneer Fund, in care of Crossbridge Financial Group, 2000 Winton Road South, No. 5, Rochester, N.Y. 14618.
She was born Oct. 16, 1968, in Wooster, to David and Hannah (Gilcrest) Thorley.
Surviving are her children, Jess Corcoran of Polk City, Fla., Jenean Corcoran and Julia Corcoran, both of Orlando, Fla. and John Fromm of Polk City, Fla.; her father of Stow; her mother, Hannah Covington of Orlando, Fla. and sisters and their spouses, Elizabeth Thorley Howard and her husband, Brooks of Fairport, N.Y., Susan and Mike Vandehoff of Cuyahoga Falls and Tamara and Scott Bradley of Morganton, N.C.

Florence Amstutz
GOSHEN, Ind. -- Florence P. (Badertscher) Amstutz, 93, of Goshen, Ind., died Wednesday morning, Sept. 5, 2001, at her home.
Memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at College Mennonite Church. Burial will be at Violett Cemetery in Goshen, Ind.
Friends may call today (Saturday) from 2-5 p.m. at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to the H. Clair and Florence Amstutz Scholarship Fund, Goshen College, Goshen, Ind.
Yoder Culp Funeral Home in Goshen, Ind. is handling arrangements.
She was born Nov. 8, 1907, near Dalton, to John and Ida (Sprunger) Badertscher. In 1934 she married H. Clair Amstutz. He died in 1984.
Surviving are six children and their spouses, Barbara and Paul Hodel of Maumee, Vivian and Verle Headings of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., John and Lois Amstutz of Noblesville, Ind., Carolyn and Kip Patterson of Columbus; Mabel and Hank Blunk of Elkhart, Ind. and Mary and Glenn Gilbert of Goshen, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a sister, Martha Klett of Millersburg.

Matthew Hostetle
DALTON -- Matthew A. "Matt" Hostetler, 21, 1048 Mount Eaton Road North, died at his residence Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, following a two-year illness.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at East Chippewa Church of the Brethren with the Revs. Delbert Kettering and Bruce Hostetler officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at East Chippewa Church of the Brethren.
Contributions may be made to the Children's Cancer Fund, in care of Dr. Jeffrey Hord, Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, One Perkins Square, Akron 44308.
Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is handling arrangements.
He was born Aug. 12, 1980, in Massillon, to Larry W. and Mary Lou (Little) Hostetler.
Surviving are his parents, Larry W. and Mary Lou Hostetler of Dalton; brother, Mark (Tula) Hostetler of Orrville; sisters, Dawn (Michael) Ross of West Lebanon and Andrea Hostetler of the home; a niece, a nephew and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

John Frank
HAYESVILLE -- John R. Frank, 82, 2033 County Road 775, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 5, 2001, at Brethren Care Nursing Home in Ashland.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with Pastor Wendy Guion officiating. Burial will be at Vermillion Cemetery in Hayesville.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayesville Vermillion Fire Department.
He was born July 7, 1919, in Ashland County, to Charles and Grace (Shafer) Frank. His wife, Ruth Frank, died Feb. 5, 1988.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Glenn and Marilyn Frank of Hayesville and Neil Frank of Perrysville and two grandchildren.

William Diehl
MANSFIELD -- William W. Diehl, 98, of Mansfield, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 1, 2001, at Woodlawn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Mansfield, following a long illness.
There will be no services or calling hours. Cremation has taken place. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
He was born May 19, 1903, in Sterling, Ill., to Adam and Hattie I. (West) Diehl and married Gladys Dawson. She died previously.
Surviving are two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Helen Huston of Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Hattie Bain
HOLMESVILLE -- Hattie Lee Bain, 95, of Holmesville, died Sept. 4, 2001, at Sunset View Nursing Home, after a time of declining health.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg with Scott Spencer officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 tonight (Wednesday) at the funeral home. Burial will be at Prairie Township Cemetery in Holmesville.
Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Church of Christ Food Pantry, 926 E. Jackson St., Millersburg 44654.
She was born Oct. 7, 1905, in Chilhowie, Va., to J.W. "Willy" and Dora Mann. She married Frank Ford in 1927 and he died in 1941. She later married William Daniel "Bill" Bain who died in 1979.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, John and Addie Ford of Holmesville; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pearl Whitt of Radford, Va. and Lucy Davenport of Chilhowie, Va.

Ruth Ashenfelter
PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Ruth G. Ashenfelter, 100, of Prescott, Ariz. died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Yavapai Community Hospital in Prescott.
Services were held Wednesday (today) at First Congregational Church in Prescott with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, Prescott, Ariz.
She was born July 4, 1901, near Sterling to Paul and Clara (Amstutz) Gillman.
Surviving are nephews, Robert (Alice) and Richard (Dorothy) Gillman of Rittman and a niece, Jayne (Rob) Rupe of Lincoln, Neb.

Elgie Bistor
RITTMAN -- Elgie L. Bistor, 83, 280 W. Ohio Ave., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at her home.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman with the Rev. Rebecca R. Belt officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Sterling, to Arthur and Laura (Coleman) Steele.
Surviving are her husband, Eugene; sons, James (Adeline) Killough of Three Rivers, Mich., and Delbert (Sandra) Killough of Rittman; a daughter, Susan (Marvin) Holibaugh of Rittman; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Bernice Dunn of Wooster.

Margaret Mulligan
WOOSTER -- Margaret J. Mulligan, 80, of Wooster, died Monday evening, Sept. 3, 2001, at Wooster Community Hospital, after several months of declining health.
Memorial services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Wooster United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dale Sanford officiating. Private family burial services will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
There will be no calling hours.
The family requests donations be made to Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster 44691 in her memory.
Arrangements are being handled by McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, Wooster.
She was born July 2, 1921, in Coshocton, to Charles and Nora (Whiting) Brink.
Surviving are her husband, Robert C. Mulligan, whom she married March 7, 1943; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Richard Enslen of Canton, Elaine and Peter Logan of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Molly and William Fanning of Blacklick; and seven grandchildren.

William Sowash
WOOSTER -- William Harold Sowash, 91, 553 Skylark Ave., died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, following a short illness.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home. Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Memorial service at 6:45 p.m. The Rev. Elizabeth McLean will officiate with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg.
He was born April 8, 1910, near Millersburg, to Lewis and Jessie (Patterson) Sowash. He married Ina May Sterling, on April 28, 1934. She died March 3, 1990. He later married Ruth C. Smith of Wooster. She survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Katheryn Sowash and two grandchildren. Also surviving are a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Bruce and Linda Smith and a step-grandson and a sister, Iola Siegenthaler.

Georgia Emery
LODI -- Georgia Emery, 71, of Lodi, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Medina General Hospital, following a brief illness.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi with Rev. David Howell officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends at Lodi American Legion, 120 Bank St., Lodi.
Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Parker & Son Funeral Home in Lodi is handling arrangements.
She was born March 13, 1930, in Friendsville, to George and Minnie (Watson) Hoff and married I. Ardon Emery. He died in 1971.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Chapman of Spencer and Sharon (Doug) Surrarrer of Homerville; a son, Carl (Zelda) Emery of Lodi; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Cecil Starkey
ASHLAND -- Cecil "Ray" Starkey, 85, of Ashland, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Ashland.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi with Pastor Tom Snyder officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Parker & Son Funeral Home in Lodi is handling arrangements.
He was born July 31, 1916, in Guysville, to George and Laura (Bean) Starkey.
Surviving are his wife, Frances; two daughters, Ruth Ann (James) Aten and Laura Starkey, both of Ashland, and three grandchildren.

Emilie Holmes
PINEHURST, N.C. -- Memorial services for Emilie Taylor Holmes, 96, who died Saturday, July 29, 2001, in Pinehurst, N.C., will be Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville with the Rev. David Kearns-Preston officiating. Burial of cremains has taken place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service on Saturday.

Daniel Thomas Jr.
WOOSTER -- Memorial services for Daniel L. Thomas Jr., DVM, 84, 758 Greenwood Blvd., will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at United Methodist Church of Wooster.
The family will receive friends following the services. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
He died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2001.

Margaret Zimmerman
WOOSTER -- Margaret Watson Zimmerman, 85, formerly of 150 W. Beverly St., died Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2001, at West View Manor.
Private family services will be held. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, is handling arrangements.
Those who wish may make contributions to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
She was born July 11, 1916, in Geneva, Ind., to Lemuel and Azalia (Schoonover) North.
Surviving are children Paula DeLong of Wooster and Jack Zimmerman of Loudonville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Darrell North, of Canton.
Her husband, Paul Zimmerman, died in 1991.

Viola Slater
WOOSTER -- Viola B. Slater, 93, formerly of 574 Williamsburg Court, Wooster, died Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2001, at Brenn-Field Nursing Home in Orrville.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Glenn Royer officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster.
Friends may call one hour prior to services.
Those who wish may make contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born Jan. 2, 1908, in Holmes County to Owen and Etta Mae (Smith) Ringler and married Harry M. Slater. He died in 1977.
Surviving are children, Phyllis (Irvin) Stocksdale and David (Jana) Slater, both of Wooster, Gerry (Gary) Hoff of Lucas, Roger (Deanna) Slater of Louisville and Dan (Mary) Slater of West Salem; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Blanche Smucker
GOSHEN, Ind. -- Blanche H. Smucker, 90, 1225 Greencroft Drive, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Greencroft Health Care, Goshen, Ind.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at College Mennonite Church in Goshen, Ind., with the Revs. Klaudia Smucker and Firman Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at Violett Cemetery, Goshen, Ind.
Friends may call today (Sunday) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Meetinghouse at Greencroft, Goshen, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Hour.
Arrangements are being handled by The Yoder-Culp Funeral home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, Ind.
She was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Youngstown to Henry and Lillian (Mueller) Hillman and married Orrin J. Smucker on Aug. 7, 1932 in Wheeling, W.Va. He died Nov. 28, 2000.
Surviving are children Mary Ann (Jonathan) Roth and Carolynn (Norman) Underwood, both of Goshen, Ind., Ronald O. (Mary Lu) Smucker of Somerset, Richard A. (Ellie Steveling) Smucker of Lusby, Md., and Ralph E. (Lisa) Smucker of Plain City; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Jaberg
WALNUT CREEK -- Robert Jaberg, 84, of Walnut Creek, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Walnut Hills Retirement Center.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Ross Miller officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the church, or one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Butler-Varns Funeral Home, Sugarcreek.
He was born June 11, 1917, in Sugarcreek to Robert and Mary (Miller) Jaberg Sr., and married Pearl B. Miller on June 6, 1943. She died Oct. 14, 1999.
Surviving are sons Clair (Janie) Jaberg of Uniontown and Mike (Deb) Jaberg of Strang, Neb.; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and sisters Beryl Crilow and Henrietta (Myron) Yoder, both of Sugarcreek.
