POLK -- Dora Mae Akers, 82, of Polk, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel with the Rev. Don Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park.
Friends may call Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Maybeury, W.Va., to Walter and Emma (Carden) Stowers and married Andrew L. Akers on July 17, 1942. He survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons Jerry (Betty) Akers of Litchfield, Tom Akers and Raymond (Vicki) Akers of Polk, daughters, Lila (Norman) Haney and Betty (Robert) Travis of Lodi, Susan Getson of Ashland, Ronda Bragg of Springfield; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Annie Shaddle of Austinville, Va., Maybel Wade of Bluefield, W.Va., Ruth Keith of Radford, Va., Fanny Stowers of Polk and a brother, Berman Stowers of Austinville, Va.

LaVerle Kauffman
WOOSTER -- LaVerle D. Kauffman, 69, 5758 Bechtel Road, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital, Orrville.
Memorial services will be Monday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Smithville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Bevere officiating. Burial will be at Smithville Cemetery, Smithville.
Visitation will be held at the Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Contributions may be directed to the Smithville United Methodist Church Missionary Fund, 243 S. Milton St., Smithville 44677, or to the Smithville Historical Society, P.O. Box 12, Smithville 44677.
He was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Wooster to Lester and Dorothy (Sinclair) Kauffman and married Nancy Lytle on July 22, 1952. She survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Mike (Catherine) Kauffman and Jeffrey (Nancy) Kauffman, both of Wooster; daughters, Sandy (Jim) Carpenter of New Philadelphia and LeeAnn (Bernie) Caldwell of Wooster; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marguerite Kauffman of Millersburg and nephews, Richard, Steve and Fritz Kauffman.

Esther Berry
WOOSTER -- Esther B. Berry, 91, of Wooster, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2001, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Northview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Wooster with Pastor Don Mays and Pastor Regis Sullivan officiating followed by interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be this evening (Friday) from 7-9 at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Northview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 3464 Burbank Road, Wooster 44691.
Mrs. Berry was born April 10, 1909, in Sterling to John E. and Martha (Pollack) Sigenthaler.
She married Carl R. Berry on March 30, 1941, in Morgantown, W.Va. He went home to be with his Lord June 14, 1982.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many loving and caring friends and neighbors.

David Foster
NORTON -- David Foster, 52, of Wadsworth Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Akron General Hospital following an apparent heart attack.
He was the husband of Judy Lynn (McCombs) Foster, formerly of Orrville.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Norton with the Rev. Ed Ulseth officiating. Private burial with military honors will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville prior to the services.
There will be no calling.
Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made for his daughters education care of Judy Foster, 3262 Wadsworth Road, Norton, 44203.
He was born on July 30, 1948, in Nashville, Tenn., to William Edward and Nellie Sue (Reeder) Foster and married Judy Lynn McCombs in Akron on Nov. 23, 1977. She survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Shannon and Ashley Foster of the home and a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Dorothy) Baucom of Huntsville, Ala.

Warren Maddock
ORRVILLE -- Warren W. "Budd" Maddock, 72, 1140 Heatherwood Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Dunlap Hospital in Orrville, following an apparent heart attack.
Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be announced in the newspaper. Cremation has taken place.
Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is handling arrangements.
He was born March 9, 1928, in Philadelphia, to Elmer E. and Esther (Watkins) Maddock Jr.
He is survived by cousins, a niece and nephew.
A sister, Thelma Marie Shephard, died previously.

Edward Collard
SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. -- Edward F. Collard, 81, of Sun City Center, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001 at South Bay Hospital.
Mass of the Resurrection will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 702 Valley Forge Blvd., Sun City Center, Fla.
Family requests donations to American Heart Association, 1411 North Westshore Blvd., Suite 211, Tampa, Fla. 33607.
Family Funeral Care, Sun City Center, Fla. 813-634-9900 is handling the arrangements.
He was born in Wooster.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Sun City Center, Fla.; a daughter, Janine and son-in-law, Dennis Sekutowski of Stockton, N.J.; a son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Joan Collard of Mansfield; two grandchildren, Emily Collard and Suzanne Sekutowski; three brothers, Wayne Collard of Cold Canyon, Calif., Russell Collard of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and William Collard of Stuart, Fla. and a sister, Jean George of Stuart, Fla.

Miriam Stair
WEST SALEM -- Miriam M. Stair, 86, of West Salem, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with the Rev. William Valentine officiating. Burial will be at Fair Haven Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 24, 1914 in Akron to Christopher and Grace (McDonald) Aukerman. Her husband, Paul R. Stair, to whom she had been married 62 years, died March 7, 1995.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Jean Domer
MILLERSBURG -- Jean L. Domer, 72, of Millersburg, passed away peacefully at her home, Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2001.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Lester Clark officiating. Burial will be at Coshocton County Memory Gardens, Coshocton.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Holmes County Hospice, 931 Wooster Road, Millersburg 44654.
She was born Feb. 10, 1928 in Killbuck and was the daughter of Lloyd and Vera (Fortune) Leckrone. On July 27, 1964, she married Ralph Domer, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are two sons and their spouses, Terry Lowe and wife, Cynthia, and Jerry Lowe, all of Coshocton; step-children and their spouses, Alice Spinks and husband, Larry of Warsaw, Larry Domer and wife, Jackie of Fresno and Brenda Hampton of Zanesville; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Miller of Lakeville and Lois Clark of Berlin; a brother, John Leckrone and wife, Beulah of Prestonsburg, Ky. and several nieces and nephews.

Guy Atkinson
CRESTON -- Guy E. Atkinson, 68, 11867 Canaan Center Road, died Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2001, at Glendora Health Care Center in Wooster, following a 10-month illness.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at West Hill Baptist Church in Wooster with the Rev. Dan Wingate officiating. Burial will be at Canaan Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston and one hour prior to services at the church.

He was born July 17, 1932 in Beallsville to Forrest and Fern (Kinzy) Atkinson and married Bessie Pittman on July 18, 1950. She survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son and daughter-in-law, James and Brenda Atkinson of Loudonville; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jeff Domer of Lakeville; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Martha Atkinson of Beallsville; sister, Vera Gazda of Palm Bay, Fla. and nieces and nephews.

Helen Keim
FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. -- Helen Mae (Pasco) Keim, 77, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 11, following a long battle with emphysema.
Friends will be received at the Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, 7300 Sunset Lake Road, Fuquay-Varina, N.C. tonight (Saturday) at 6 followed by a celebration of her life at 7.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, Abiding Presence Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Wooster, to Carl and Leona Pasco.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Paulette L. and Wiley Kite of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sons and daughters-in-law, H. David II and Libby Keim of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. and Larry T. and Frances Keim of Yardley, Pa.; four grandchildren; a step-granddaughter and six great-grandchildren.

Ruth Custer
WOOSTER -- Ruth W. Custer, 85, of Wooster, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Sunrise Assisted Living, Wooster, where she had resided since March 1999.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, with Pastor Nathan Ward officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Crisfield, Md. to Harry and Anna E. (Willis) Warren and married Richard A. Custer in Dover, Del., on June 1, 1934. He died July 4, 1992.
Surviving are sons John A. (Marlene) Custer of Wooster and James C. (Cam) Custer of Milton, W.Va.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Callie (Sara) Sheppard of Gettysburg, Pa.

Samuel Kirkpatrick
WOOSTER -- Samuel A. Kirkpatrick, 93, 3296 Dover Road, died Saturday morning, Jan. 13, 2001, at his home.
Memorial services will be Monday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the St. Peters United Church of Christ in Apple Creek with the Rev. Richard Ross officiating. Burial will be at Apple Creek Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

He was born June 23, 1907 in Logan County to Charles H. and Rosetta (Dobbins) Kirkpatrick.
Surviving are his wife Irene (Numbers) Kirkpatrick, to whom he had been married 71 years; two daughters, Ruth Kardos of North Canton and Edna Gurr of Wooster; a son, Robert, of Florida; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruby Ricer
WOOSTER -- Ruby Ricer, 75, of Horn Nursing Center in Wooster and formerly of Orrville and Sugarcreek, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Doctor's Hospital.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek with the Rev. Kenard Parrott officiating. Burial will be at Union Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call today (Sunday) from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born June 11, 1925, in Akron, Colo., to Jacob J. and Minnie Clara (Bentz) Schrock and married William Earl Ricer on Feb. 13, 1943. He died March 8, 2000.
Surviving are two sons, Ken Ricer of Akron and Larry Ricer of Dundee; a daughter, Carol Kaufmann of Wooster; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Schrock of Loudonville and Richard Schrock of Winesburg; and a sister, Mrs. Donald (Beulah) Larsen of Loudonville.

Virginia Fulfer
WOOSTER -- Virginia C. Fulfer, 78, of Wooster and formerly of Oakland, Mich., entered into rest Friday evening, Jan. 12, 2001, at West View Manor Nursing Center, Wooster, after a length illness.
Memorial services will be this evening (Sunday) at 7:30 at West View Manor Retirement Center Chapel, Wooster, with the Rev. George Johnson officiating.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. The cremains will be interred at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Mich., at a later date.
Custer-Glenn Funeral Home of Wooster is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691 or West View Manor Retirement Home, 1715 Mechanicsburg Road, Wooster 44691.
Mrs. Fulfer was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Farmington, Mich., to John and Anna (Hess) Krause and married Thomas L. Fulfer on March 2, 1974, in Dearborn, Mich. He entered into rest in May of 1992.
She is survived by a son, Bruce (Carol) Georgeff of Detroit; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Carol) Pontius of Three Rivers, Mich.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Edward and David Krause, both of Michigan.

John Patterson Jr.
WOOSTER -- John E. Patterson Jr., 42, 322 E. Henry St., died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at his residence.
Service of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

He was born Sept. 9, 1958, in Hampton, Va., to John Sr. and Joyce (Kier) Patterson. He was engaged to Anna Gregory. She survives.

Patterson; maternal grandmother Mary Kier of Dayton; paternal grandfather Horace Patterson of Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother, Michael Patterson of Clarksville, Tenn. and a sister, Caron Patterson of Des Moines, Iowa.

Margaret Huff
WOOSTER -- Margaret N. Huff, 79, formerly of 311 E. South St., died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2001, at Horn Nursing Center, Wooster, where she had resided since December 2000.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge.
Friends may call one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Cambridge, to Samuel and Maude (Stanley) Wiley. She married Orville L. Huff on April 26, 1970 in Cambridge. He survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband of Wooster are two sons, Vernon "Ted" (Pat) Rochester Jr. of Newport Richey, Fla. and Gary (Jean) Rochester of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Jean Bates, Mrs. David (Donna) Nelson and Mrs. Ron (Sharon) Grimshaw, all of Apple Creek; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Gregg of Cambridge and a half-sister, Nellie Blythe.

Lena Drown
EDISON -- Lena S. Drown, 83, of Edison, died Sunday morning, Jan. 14, 2001, at Marion General Hospital.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Rivercliff Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Lockwood officiating.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Craven & Snyder Funeral Home, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.

She was born April 21, 1917, in Wooster, to Harley and Cora (Ammons) Christopher and married Claude D. Drown on May 1, 1936. He died May 14, 1987.
Surviving are two sons, Claude Drown of Edison and Donald L. Drown of Bucyrus; a daughter, Barbara Drown of Johnsville; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley and Donald Freeny of Wooster, Luella Priest of Shreve and Pauline Brenneman of Wooster.

Clyde Miller
BERLIN -- Clyde Miller, 90, P.O. Box 92, died Saturday evening, Jan. 13, 2001, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg, following a period of declining health.
Memorial services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Berlin with Pastors Steve Sandison and Wendell Beal officiating. Private burial will be prior to services at Berlin Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.

He was born March 7, 1910, near Trail, to Abe and Abbie (Gardner) Miller and married Ruby A. Kaser on Oct. 5, 1929. She died Aug. 25, 2000.
Surviving are three children and their spouses, Stanley and Norma Jeane Miller and Tim and Joyce Miller, all of Berlin and Carol Miller of the home; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Shields
WOOSTER -- Ruby E. Shields, 88, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2001, at West View Manor Nursing Center, Wooster, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, with Pastor Mark Carstensen and Pastor Regis Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at Rowsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
Mrs. Shields was born Oct. 23, 1912, in Ohio County, Ky., to Charlie and Willie O. (Hudnall) Graham.
She married Wilbert L. Shields on Jan. 16, 1965 in Hartford, Ky. He died July 25, 1977.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David (Doris V.) Higby of Brunswick and Mrs. Kathleen Dreibelbis of Ashland and her devoted granddaughter, Mrs. Tom (Lucy) Cicconetti of Wooster, whom she raised as her own daughter; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and a dear friend, Marvelene Landis of Wooster.
