Evelyn Saurer
MASSILLON -- Evelyn M. Saurer, 83, of Massillon, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Massillon Community Hospital, after a brief illness.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton, with the Rev William A. Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Mount Eaton.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene of Massillon, 1323 Lincoln Way NW, Massillon 44647.
She was born Sept. 7, 1919, in West Lebanon to Frank and Emma (McClelland) Fox and married Howard S. Saurer on April 4, 1945. He died April 23, 1999.
She had lived most of her life in Massillon and was owner/operator of the former Evelyn's Beauty Shop in Massillon.
She attended First Church of the Nazarene of Massillon.
Surviving are a brother, Franklin Fox of Avon Park, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, William Fox and sisters, Geraldine Fox and Dolly Fahrni, died previously.

Russell Stocksdale
DUNDEE -- Russell Perry Stocksdale, 77, of Dundee, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Union Hospital.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. LuAnn Youngman officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg.
Friends may call tonight (Tuesday) from 6-8 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dundee United Methodist Church.
He was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Dundee to Charles L. and Stella (Lautzenheiser) Stocksdale and married Emma Margaret Fahrni on Feb. 26, 1961. She died Jan. 2, 2001.
He retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad in Brewster, where he was a licensed stationary engineer and had his boiler license.
He was a member of Dundee United Methodist Church and Stark Wilderness Center, where he was a volunteer. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, gardening, grafting trees, kite flying, woodworking, pottery and spending time with his family.
Surviving are children, Dale Allen (Jessica) Stocksdale of Dundee and Bette Ann Fitzwater of Beach City; and two grandsons.
In addition to his wife, a brother died previously.

Abe Troyer
ASHLAND -- Abe J. Troyer, 81, 1486 Township Road 908, died Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 2003, at his residence.
Services will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the residence. Burial will be at Troyer Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Van Hove Funeral Home in Ashland.
He was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Ohio, to John and Fannie (Miller) Troyer.
He was a member of the Old Order Amish and was engaged in farming.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Troyer; children, Fannie, Katie, Malinda, Emma, Mattie, Edna, Alma, Mahala, John, Sam, Ammon, Joe, Aden, Abe Troyer Jr. and Andy; 140 grandchildren; 143 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.
His first wife, Alma, two daughters, a sister, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren died previously.

David Benninger
ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. -- David Arthur Benninger, 57, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord after a year-long battle with lung cancer as a result of Agent Orange on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Veterans Administration Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Dave Lawson officiating. Interment will be at Wooster Cemetery.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the services.
He was born Oct. 2, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., to Richard L. and Freda Jane (Ogden) Benninger and was a graduate of Wooster High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a paratrooper with the 1st Cavalry Division, as a radio operator.
He was a mechanic at the Ford garage and enjoyed deep sea fishing, feeding the bluejays and squirrels peanuts every day and was an avid reader.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Royal Palm Beach, Fla.
Surviving are sisters, Virginia (Roger) Shy of Shreve and Brenda (Dave) Hyde of Bloomingdale; brothers, Richard (Becky) Benninger of Wooster and Robert Benninger of Chicago, Ill.; nine nieces and nephews; and good friends, Bill and Delores Renauld of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.
His parents died previously.

Arlene Miller
APPLE CREEK -- Arlene J. Miller, 10, 14385 Salt Creek Road, died Monday evening, Jan. 13, 2003, at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, after an extended illness.
Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Junior R. Byler officiating. Burial will be at Hershberger Cemetery, Paint Township, Wayne County.
Friends may call anytime at the residence. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton, is handling arrangements.
She was born March 19, 1992, in Massillon to John J. and Laura (Miller) Miller. She had attended Mount Eaton Elementary School and was a student at Walnut Hills Parochial School.
She attended the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving in addition to her parents, are a sister, Marnita, and brothers, Aaron, Isaac, Maynard and Matthew, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Joe and Bena Miller of Millersburg; and maternal grandparents, Levi J. and Mary Miller of Apple Creek.
A grandmother died previously.

Katherine Miller
WALNUT CREEK -- Katherine K. Miller, 92, a resident of Walnut Hills Retirement Home, Walnut Creek, formerly of Sugarcreek, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg.
In keeping with Katherine's wishes, her body will be cremated.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. Carlan Helgeson officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Smith-Geib Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek.
She was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Stark County to Bert and Keturah (Nichols) Adams and married George Lorenz. He died in 1936. She then married Arthur C. Miller. He died in 1983.
She worked for many years at Sugarlane IGA and at Walnut Hills Nursing Home for five years.
She was a faithful member of First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek for many years, where she was a member of the women's quilting guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are children, Billy Lorenz and Lois (Glenn) Mason, both of Dover and Linda (Charles) Sigrist of Winesburg; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Harmon of Navarre.
In addition to her husbands, a son, Walter Lorenz, her parents, four brothers and a sister died previously.

M. Lucile Thomas
WOOSTER -- M. Lucile Thomas, 89, 4439 Deer Creek Drive, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 14, 2003, at Wooster Community Hospital.
Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul A. Farren officiating. Committal services will be at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Shreve.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster.
Those who wish may make contributions to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster; or to Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, 4203 West Old Lincoln Way, Wooster 44691.
She was born March 27, 1913, in Nashville to Herron and Mary (Thome) Breneman and married Verde P. Thomas on Sept. 4, 1937. He survives.
She was a 1932 graduate of Shreve High School and had worked at the former Gold Star Store, Wayne County Care Center and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years and Lincoln Way Garden Club.
Surviving are children and their spouses, Carolyn and Larry Alexander of Big Prairie and David and Linda Thomas of Wooster; grandchildren, Melissa and Steve Kelley of Cincinnati, Chris and Allen Cornelius of Shreve, Thomas and Kathy Alexander of Lancaster, Brenda and Bryan Cooper of Delaware and Julie and Ron Kandel of Big Prairie; 20 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Marie Frost and Luella Esterline, both of Louisville and Ruth Brower of Willoughby.
A great-grandchild and sisters, Wanda Jane Stoler and Louise Sprang, died previously.

Chris Wright
WOOSTER -- Chris Wright, 21, of Wooster, entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Wooster Community Hospital.
There will be no services.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-6 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sway M. Wright Fund, in care of Roger Wright, 3657 W. West Salem Road, Burbank 44214.
He was born Nov. 11, 1981, in Parma and moved to Wooster in 1995, from Cleveland. He was a good athlete throughout his life.
Surviving are a daughter, Sway M. of the home; his father, Roger Wright of Burbank; his mother Linda Wright of Cleveland; his fiancee, Jamie L. Duncan of Wooster; brothers, Joshua N. Wright of Orrville, Jared and Zachary Wright, both of Burbank; a sister, Rachel A. Wright of Cleveland; paternal grandparents, Jack and Ann Wright of Tennessee; and maternal grandmother, Colette Austin of Cleveland.
Maternal grandfather, Clifford E. Austin, died previously.

Dorothy Graham
DALTON -- Dorothy A. Graham, 79, of Dalton, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Altercare of Navarre.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Dalton Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Dalton.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Perryville, Pa., and was a resident of Dalton, moving to Navarre four years ago.
Surviving are children, Tim, Tina, Tara, Barb and Carolyn; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Ruth.
Her husband, Charles Graham, brothers, Robert, Paul and Richard Fink, and a sister, Arlene Ulshafer, died previously.

Charles May
RITTMAN -- Charles W. "Chuck" May, 58, 13 Strawberry Hill, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 15, 2003, at his home.
Services will be Friday at noon at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with the Rev. Mark Goslin officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
Friends may call tonight (Thursday) from 6-9 at the funeral home, or one hour prior to the services.
Friends who wish may make contributions to Murray Funeral Home, 173 S. Main St., Creston 44217, to help defray expenses.
He was born May 15, 1944, in Monroe, Mich., to John and Evelyn (Cuykendall) May and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962-64.
He had made his home in the Creston and Spencer areas, moving to Rittman five years ago. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of Rittman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1610.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy A. (Lindner) May, whom he married May 16, 1997; children, Charles W. (Tina) May Jr. of Seville, Lisa A. (Mike) Stroud of Wintersville, N.C., John "Rick" (Kelly) May of Rittman and Angela R. (Joe) Adkins of West Salem; stepchildren, Kimberly Mick of Barberton, Pamela (Alan) Klostermann of Canal Fulton and Michael Shook of Marshallville; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Larry) Young of Nashville; and brothers, Craig (Kerri) May and Matt May, both of Homerville, Keith (Valerie) May of Creston, Mark (Kelly) May of Rochester, Adam (Lizette) May of Lorain, Dwight May of Florida, Dennis (Chris) May of Sullivan, Luke (Cindy) May of Brunswick, Pete (Linda) May of Spencer and Rodney May of Texas.
His parents, an infant brother, John Paul, a brother, John May and a sister, Mary Brown, died previously.

Joseph Miller
BALTIC -- Joseph D. "Sonny" Miller, 59, 1703 State Route 643, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, after a brief illness.
Services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Melvin J. Miller officiating. Burial will be at Troyer Cemetery, Holmes County, Clark Township.
Friends may call anytime today (Thursday) after noon.
Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Geib Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
He was born April 26, 1943, in Holmes County to Dan N. and Lizzie Miller.
He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving are his wife, Katie R. Miller, whom he married Sept. 10, 1964; children, John J.K. (Katie) Miller, Paul J. (Esther) Miller and Joseph (Edna) Miller Jr., all of Baltic, Ivan J. (Sara Mae) Miller of Millersburg, Myron J. (Marie) Miller, Mattie (Joseph P.) Miller, Alma (John L.) Erb and Esther (Eli D.) Miller, all of Sugarcreek and Marion Miller of the home; 42 grandchildren; a brother, John D. (Effie) Miller of Millersburg; and sisters, Katie (Ories) Miller of Glenmont, Mattie (Roman L.) Miller, Esther (Levi J.) Hershberger, Mandy (Henry P.) Troyer and Clara Miller, all of Dundee.
His parents and a grandchild died previously.

Kathy Phillips
KILLBUCK -- Kathy Bickel Phillips, 65, of Killbuck, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 14, 2003, at her home after an extended illness.
There will be no services. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements.
The family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of Holmes County, 931 Wooster Road, Millersburg 44654.
She was born May 2, 1937, in Akron to Raymond and Lori (Conley) Gooding and married Hubert Bickel. He died previously. On June 7, 1984, she married Donald C. Phillips. He survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are children, Larry (Phyllis) Bickel of Tiffin, Julie (Chris) Brown of Missouri, Jeff (Kim) Bickel and Todd (Pam) Bickel, both of Millersburg; stepchildren, Toni Daniel of Akron, Penny Hamilton of Holmesville, Donald P. Phillips and Kitty Phillips, both of Barberton; 12 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; brothers, Raymond Gooding of Welcome, Joe Gooding of Stillwell, David Gooding of Shreve and Max Gooding of Glenmont; and sisters, Betty Proper and Mary Tish, both of Millersburg, Christine Hicks of Wooster and Danna Butler of Shreve.
In addition to her first husband, a granddaughter, Shyla Bickel, died previously.
