Betty Weaver
MILLERSBURG -- Betty J. Weaver, 77, 4390 U.S. 62, died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, 2003, at her home, following a period of declining health.
Services will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the Syl Schlabach residence with Bishop Nelson J. Weaver officiating. Burial will be at the Bunker Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call anytime at the Schlabach residence.
Arrangements are being handled by Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton.
She was born Oct. 21, 1925 near Millersburg to Eli and Sara (Miller) Yoder and married Jonas A. "June" Weaver on Nov. 14, 1946. He died May 21, 1999.
She had lived all of her life in Holmes County and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
She is survived by six children, Wayne (Fannie) Weaver of Apple Creek, Sara (Syl) Schlabach of Millersburg, Erma (Mose) Keim of Apple Creek, Roy (Erma) Weaver of Fredericksburg, Freda (Joe) Nisley of Dundee, and Fanny (Robert) Kurtz of Millersburg; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dora (Levi) Miller and Fanny (Dan) Schlabach, both of Millersburg.
In addition to her husband, a daughter, Mary Beachy, five grandchildren, a brother and a sister, died previously.

Dan Bailey
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dan Larry Bailey, 62, of Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Presbyterian Hospital.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Charlotte, N.C.
There will be a time of fellowship following the service.
Arrangements are being handled by McEwen Funeral & Cremation Service, Pineville Chapel, Charlotte, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5338 Nations Ford Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28217; or the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, N.C. 28203.
He was born Oct. 9, 1940, in Rutherfordton, N.C., to John J. and Ruby (Phillips) Bailey.
He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite Bodies, Steele Creek Masonic Lodge 737, AF&AM, Oasis Temple of the Shrine and SCARS Ham Radio Club of Fort Mill, S.C.
Surviving are his wife, Inez Bailey of the home, formerly of Wooster; a twin brother, Don Bailey of Vail, N.C.; 10 nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and nephews.
His parents died previously.

Tom Castello
DOYLESTOWN -- Tom Castello, 58, of Doylestown, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Hospice Care Center.
Celebration services will be Friday at noon at Crossroads Community Church, with Pastor Jerry Butcher officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown, or one hour prior to the services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 245 Locust St., Akron 44302; or to Hospice Visiting Nurses Service, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron 44333.
He was born Aug. 23, 1944, in Salem to Richard W. and Leota (Wood) Castello and married Pat Norris on Aug. 17, 1968. She survives.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a resident of Doylestown. He was a car salesman at Wadsworth Ford and a member of Crossroads Community Church, where he was very active.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Lisa Pelfrey and Jodi (Travis) Brown, both of Doylestown and Keith (Sarah) Castello of California; four grandchildren; his father of Doylestown; sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Edgar of Virginia, Peggy (Dick) Middaugh of North Canton and Pauline (Larry) Gowin of Barberton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His mother and a grandson died previously.

John Evanoff
MILLERSBURG -- John Christ Evanoff, 83, of Millersburg, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, 2003, at Majora Lane Care Center, Millersburg, from Alzheimer's.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church of Millersburg, with the Rev. Kenneth Walther officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Canton Area Chapter, 4815 Munson St., NW, Canton 44718.
He was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Lorain to Christ and Anna (Danail) Evanoff and married Mary Ann Petrovich. She died previously.
He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and received his master's degree from Kent State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, stationed at Camp Shelby, Miss. and spent the majority of his life as an educator and school administrator.
Surviving are a son, John C. "Chip" Evanoff Jr. of Swanton; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife, daughters, Jane Ann White and Mary Elaine Snyder, died previously.

Angela Grayson
WOOSTER -- Angela Catherine "Ann" Grayson, 84, of Wooster, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Wooster Community Hospital.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Grafton W.Va.
Friends may call tonight (Thursday) from 6-8 at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
Those who wish may make contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church, P.O. Box 109, Wooster 44691; or to the Leukemia Society of America, Northern Ohio Chapter, 20525 Center Ridge Road, 630, Cleveland 44116.
She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Grafton, W.Va., to Frank T. and Nellie Marie (Coulehan) Gerkin and married F. Edward Grayson on Oct. 7, 1942. He died Jan. 10, 1993.
She was co-owner along with her husband of the former Grayson Restaurant, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Mission Circle 8, NCCW and the Homemakers Club. She enjoyed flowers and quilts.
Surviving are children, David E. (Joan) Grayson of Dayton, Susan K. (Joseph) Woodward of Oberlin, Mary Ellen (Vaughn) Black and Patricia A. (Terry) Bower, both of Wooster; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, a son, Richard Thomas, an infant son, Michael, brothers, Frank T., Phillip M., Robert F. and Charles R. Gerkin and sisters, Helen E. Carder and Mary Jo Gerkin, died previously.

John James
WOOSTER -- John "Sealy" James, 82, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Wooster Community Hospital, after a short illness.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Wayne County Care Center, Wooster, with Chaplain Rufus Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Moreland Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wayne County Care Center Auxiliary, 876 S. Geyers Chapel Road, Wooster 44691.
Sealy was born June 13, 1920, to Fred Jason and Glenna (Barnes) James on the family farm in Franklin Township near Moreland.
He had made his home in Wayne County all of his life, where he was a farm-hand for many years and had worked with the Paul Wirt & Starn Pipeline Co. He had been a resident at Wayne County Care Center since 1978.
Surviving are all of his loving, close friends/staff, whom he considered his family at Wayne County Care Center; a brother, Charles "Ralph" James of Mansfield; nephews, Jimmy James of Mansfield and Thomas James of Smithville; nieces, Patricia Young of Columbus, Jean (Don) Daugherty of Dayton and Mary Jo (Earl) Minks of Illinois; and many cousins in the area.
A brother, Thomas "Lorin" James, died previously.

Herbert Kobs
PARMA HEIGHTS -- Herbert E. Kobs, 84, of Parma Heights, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Busch Family Chapel, 7501 Ridge Road, Parma.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
For 43 years, he worked at ALCOA Aluminum in Cleveland.
Surviving are sons, Gary (Diana) Kobs of Wooster and, John (Judy) Kobs of Medina; and two grandchildren.
His wife of 61 years, Lillian Kobs, died Nov. 3, 2002.

Ralph Poynter Jr.
AKRON -- Ralph W. Poynter Jr., 72, of Akron, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Magnolia Care Center.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, with Pastor Tim Short officiating. Cremation will follow.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
He was born July 20, 1930, in Grafton, W.Va., to Ralph W. and Roberta (McConkey) Poynter Sr. and married Dorothy C. (Slavens) Poynter. She died July 28, 2002.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and lived most of his life in Akron. In 1978, he retired from the General Tire Co., where he worked for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and flea markets.
Surviving are a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, G.V. and Betty J. Slavens of Rittman.

Jean Richardson
WOOSTER -- Jean Margaret Richardson, 97, of Wooster, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Wooster Community Hospital.
Memorial services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Dr. James Collier officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
She was born Dec. 8, 1905, in East Cleveland to Paul David and Martha (Kumrow) Richardson.
She was a secretary to the superintendent of the East Cleveland Board of Education for 23 years, retiring in 1970.
Surviving are a niece, Gail Wickersham of Muncie, Ind., and a nephew, Paul Greiling of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
A sister, Grace Greiling, died previously.

Carl Schlegel
SEAL BEACH, Calif. -- Carl Samuel Schlegel, 83, of Seal Beach, Calif., died Saturday evening, Jan. 25, 2003, at Community Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.
He was the brother and brother-in-law of Lawrence and Dolores Schlegel of Fresno and the brother of Mildren Lautenschleger of Sugarcreek.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at All Souls Mortuary & Cemetery Chapel, where friends may call from 8:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Stricklin/Snively Mortuary, Long Beach, Calif.
He was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Crawford Township, Coshocton County, to Harry and Verda Schlegel and married Helen Sevo on Sept. 19, 1987. He survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 135th Field Artillery from 1941-45 and was a retired construction worker.
Other survivors include stepchildren, John (Nancy) Sevo and Mary Sevo; three granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
Wives, Theresa Schlegel and Mildred Schlegel and brothers, Earl and Richard Schlegel, died previously.

Diana Young
LODI -- Diana Young, 49, of Lodi, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. She was employed at Hospice of Wayne County.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Akron Springfield Church of the Brethren, 3500 Albrecht Ave., Akron.
A reception will follow the service at about 3:30 p.m., when friends may call.
Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Akron is handling arrangements.
Surviving are a niece, Gail Wickersham of Muncie, Ind., and a nephew, Paul Greiling of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
A sister, Grace Greiling, died previously.

Helen Demuth
GNADENHUTTEN -- Helen M. (Zimmerman) Demuth, 89, of Gnadenhutten, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
She was the mother and mother-in-law of Esther and James Leggett of Orrville and the grandmother of Chad (Sherry) Leggett of Orrville.
Services will be today (Friday) at 1 at Gnadenhutten Moravian Church, with the Rev. William Surber and Dr. Monty Canfield officiating. Burial will be at Gnadenhutten Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Gowins Funeral Home, 244 N. Walnut St., Gnadenhutten.
The family requests contributions be made to the Gnadenhutten Moravian Church.
She was born June 25, 1913, in Gnadenhutten to Karl A. and Alice C. (Gram) Zimmerman and married Roy V. Demuth on Sept. 24, 1939. He died March 18, 1991.
She was a 1931 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School and received her teaching degree from Muskingum College. She taught school at Midvale, Sherrodsville (Conotten Valley), Uhrichsville/Claymont, Maple Grove, Trenton Avenue, Uhrich Street and Rush.
She was a life resident of the area and for the past 14 months resided at Brenn-Field Nursing Care Center in Orrville.
She was a life member of Gnadenhutten Moravian Church, where she served as a deaner, was a member of the choir and Women's Fellowship and participated in making bees wax candles and Moravian stars.
She was also a member of Orange Chapter 302, Order of Eastern Star, where she was a Past Worthy Matron, a member of Bowerston Woman's Club and Outlook Club of Gnadenhutten.
Helen loved raising flowers and photographing them. She played the violin and piano.
Other survivors include children, Emma (Gwyned) Williams of Bethlehem, Pa., and John (Jane) Demuth of Gnadenhutten; grandchildren, Allen (Selina) Williams of Pennsylvania, Jonathan (Patty) Williams of Florida, Karl (Jenny) Demuth of Akron, Stephen (Jennifer) Demuth of New Philadelphia, and Jeff (Kristin) Leggett of Milford; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, a brother, K. Francis Zimmerman and a sister, Wilma Zimmerman, died previously.
