Myrtle Sollenberger
ORRVILLE -- Myrtle I. Sollenberger, 96, formerly of East Paradise Street, Orrville, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Brenn-Field Nursing Center, Orrville.
Services will be Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Orrville with Pastor Walter Jordon officiating. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville.
Visitation will be held at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville on Sunday from 4-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 140 W. Water St., Orrville 44667.
She was born Oct. 13, 1906, in Witmer, Lancaster County, Pa. to William and Mary (Simmons) Latschar and married Herbert Sollenberger on May 23, 1946. He died Jan. 14, 1991.
Myrtle was a native of the Lancaster, Pa. area and moved to Orrville in 1946.
She was a member of the Augsburg Lutheran Church where she was the church organist for many years and was a member of the Rebekah Circle.
She was a professionally trained musician and taught organ and piano in her home studio as well as teaching many students in their homes.
She was a member of the Tri-Arts Club and the Orrville Eastern Star.
Surviving are her foster son and his wife, Richard and Donna Hauenstein of Galena; two foster grandchildren; two nephews, Russell (Lorraine) Latschar and Glenn (Ellen) Latschar, both of Lancaster, Pa. and three nieces, Ann (Tim) Davidson of Rockville, Md., Harriett (Bill) Merriman of Westerville and Beverly Sollenberger of Loudonville.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Richard and Earl Latschar.

Rosalie Butterfield
ORRVILLE -- Rosalie E. Butterfield, 71, 919 Hostetler Road, died Friday, February 7, 2003, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville, following a period of declining health.
Funeral services will be held at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Terry Clark officiating. Burial will take place in Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
She was born on February 20, 1931 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Charles and Estella (Trenholm) Butterfield.
She had been a resident of the Orrville area since 1947 and was formerly employed as an assembler at the Orrville Products Company. She retired in 1978.
She was a member of the Orrville Moose Lodge, American Association of Retired Persons and enjoyed needlework and crocheting.
She is survived by her former husband and beloved companion, Jack Van Zile; a son, Douglas (Kimberly) Van Zile of Orrville; daughters, Delilah (Anthony) Sanders of Wooster and Jacklyn (Timothy) Becker of Orrville; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Edna (John) Maki of Orrville.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard M. Van Zile in 1992, three brothers and five sisters.

Eldon Nussbaum
DALTON -- Eldon J. Nussbaum, 84, of Dalton, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville.
Private family services will be held with burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Dalton Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 134, Dalton 44618.
He was born Aug. 11, 1918 in Apple Creek to Christ C. and Elizabeth (Schumacher) Nussbaum.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was a life resident of Dalton and member of the Church of God.
He retired in 1981 from Tyson Bearing Division of S.K.F. Industries as tool and die foreman.
He is survived by wife, Mary M. Nussbaum of Dalton; daughter, Judith (Hans) Lobisch; sons, Bruce (Susan) Nussbaum, and David (Bernice) Nussbaum; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Brothers, Gillis, Loris, Wilford, Leslie, Dean and Harley Nussbaum and sisters, Bernice Schnaible, Alice Douglas, Ada Nichols and Alma Yoder, died previously.

Timothy Ramsey
KENMORE -- Timothy W. Ramsey, 42, of Kenmore, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, due to a house fire.
Masonic service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown, with funeral service to follow at 1:15 p.m. with the Rev. James R. McComas officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in his name to Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown 44230, to help defray funeral expenses.
A resident of Akron, formerly of Spencer, he graduated in 1979 from Black River High School.
He was a self-employed electrician and as a U.S. Navy veteran he proudly served his country. He was a member of Garfield Memorial American Legion Post No. 566 and West Salem Masonic Lodge No. 398 F&AM.
He was a loving father and devoted uncle.
He was preceded in death by father, Jack Ramsey; and is survived by his wife, Crystal Ramsey; daughters, Jennifer of Oklahoma and Marrissa Ramsey of Akron; his mother, Nina (David) Tripp of Seville; brother, Larry Ramsey of Seville; sister, Janice (Tom) Weyand of Doylestown; nephews, Larry Ramsey and Josh Boatner; nieces, Libby Boatner, Anna Riggle and Aimee Weyand and grandmothers, Ruth Ratliff of Massillon and Iva Ramsey of West Virginia.

Merle Spitler
ASHLAND -- Merle Spitler, 91, of Virginia Avenue, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the Good Shepherd Home.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Nova Cemetery with Pastor Brian Chavez officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Heyl Funeral Home in Ashland.
He was born Feb. 27, 1911 in Overton to William and Lavina (Shifferly) Spitler.
He was a retired farmer and had also worked for Wooster Construction and Ashland Cemetery.
He was a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Ashland.
Surviving are his stepson and spouse, Paul and Darlene Wertz and two step-grandchildren.
His wife, Florabell and several brothers and sisters, died previously.

Alfred Whitman
NORTON -- Alfred H. Whitman, 90, of Norton, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hilliard & Mullaney Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth with Pastor Robin L. Hart officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to Northside Christian Church Building Fund, 1825 Reimer Road, Wadsworth 44281.
He was born in Rittman and had resided in Norton for 40 years.
He was a salesman in Technical School Enrollments retiring in 1978 and was previously employed at the B.F. Goodrich Co. Following retirement he was a security guard for Pinkerton's. He liked to tell stories and enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are his children, Judith Hanna of Wooster, Kathleen (Glen) Starling of Wadsworth and Alfred (Marian) DeWitt of Shreve; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Nola, a great-grandson and sisters, Esther Sohar and Helen Reed, died previously.

John Breece
RITTMAN -- John R. "Foggy" Breece, 80, of Rittman, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Gillman Funeral Home, Rittman with the Rev. Richard A. Lapehn officiating. Burial will be in Rittman Cemetery where military rites will be conducted.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Milton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 306, Rittman 44270 or Hospice of Medina County, 797 N. Court St., Medina 44256.
He was born Oct. 2, 1922 in Rittman to Howard and Lillian (Decker) Breece and was a life resident of Rittman.
He graduated from Rittman High School in 1940 and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific, including Guam and Iwo Jima.
He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Rittman for 37 years until retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Milton Presbyterian Church, and Howard A. Bair Post No. 423 of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Marcene (Mackey) whom he married on June 25, 1948; sons, Boyd Breece and Brook (Paula) Breece, both of Marshallville, Bruce Breece of Los Angeles, and Brad (Judy) Breece of San Francisco; daughters, Barbara Nelson of Barberton and Betty (Terry) Santmyer of Dalton; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Brothers, Howard and William Breece, died previously.

Lloyd Koppes
SHELBY -- Lloyd E. Koppes, 71, 32 Dicks Drive Ext., died Saturday evening, Feb. 8, 2003, at Medcentral Health System in Mansfield.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Chester Mennonite Church near Wooster. Burial will be at Eight Square Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8:30 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall of the Chester Mennonite Church.
Those who wish may contribute to the WCG, in care of John Peterson, P.O. Box 248, Brinkhaven 43006.
Arrangements are being handled by McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, Wooster.
He was born June 22, 1931 in Medina County to Andrew J. and Elizabeth (Lehman) Koppes.
He had been a farmer and had worked for Auto Call in Shelby where he retired. During his retirement he had provided transportation for many Mennonite families.
He was a member of the World Wide Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Edith (Weaver) Koppes, to whom had had been married 47 years; children and their spouses, Lloyd W. and Jean Koppes of Loveland, Susan and John Lee of Olathe, Colo. and John of Casnovia, Mich.; seven grandchildren; a step-grandchild; sisters, Elsie Imhoff of West Salem and Myrtle Brubaker of Dillsburg, Pa. and a brother, Edwin of West Salem.

Roy Shamp
ST. CLOUD, Fla. -- Roy "Bill" Shamp, 69, of St. Cloud, Fla. and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at his home.
Celebration of Life will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Kissimmee, Fla.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Kissimmee, 1700 N. John Young Parkway, Kissimmee, Fla. 34741.
He was born Sept. 14, 1933 in Fredericksburg to Clifford and Cecelia Shamp.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Millie (Warner) Shamp, to whom he had been married for 33 years; children, Kathy Specht of Canton, Mark Shamp of Creston, Tim Crebs, Cary Oxenrider, Brenda Crebs, Bill Crebs, all of Florida and Jennifer Canova of Georgia; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, Roger and Clifford Shamp and a sister, Barbara Sigler of Ohio.
A daughter, Hope, a sister, Marlene and a brother, Robert Shamp, died previously.

Rev. Gerald Smelser
KIDRON -- Rev. Gerald V. Smelser, 90, of Kidron and Sebring, Fla., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Tampa General Hospital, following an accident at home.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Kidron
Mennonite Church with the Revs. Herman Myers and Joel Kettenring officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Arrangements are being handled by Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton.
Contributions may be made to Remnant Ministries, P.O. Box 21100, Cleveland OH 44121.
He was born in Altoona, Pa. on Feb. 14, 1912 to Roy G. and Effie (Johnson) Smelser and married Louise Kleffman on Nov. 28, 1935. She died on April 4, 1974. He then married Ruth Schultz on Aug. 28, 1975. She survives.
He had been a resident of Kidron for the past 26 years and previously had been the director of the Hebrew Mission in Cleveland now known as Remnant Ministries for 60 years.
He was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring, Fla. and had attended the Kidron Mennonite Church.
Also surviving are children, Barbara Francis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Ruth Boalt of Boca Raton, Fla., and Gerald T. Smelser of Quito, Equador; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren .
Two brothers, Vincent and Kenneth, died previously.
