Carl Schafer
STUART, Fla. -- Carl E. Schafer, 87, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Wooster, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Martin Memorial Hospital South in Stuart.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce, Fla.
Friends may call tonight (Thursday) from 7-9 at Aycock Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart, Fla.
Those who wish may make contributions to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart.
He was born in Wooster and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a foreman at the Whittaker Corp. in Wooster for 50 years, before retiring and was a resident of Stuart, Fla. since 1980.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are children, Carolyn J. Weber of Wooster, Janet D. Frederick of Hope Sound, Fla., Barbara J. Hinton of Cornelius, Ore., and Bruce E. Schafer of Syracuse, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Charles Schafer of Wooster and John Schafer of Medina.
His wife, Stella J. Schafer, three brothers and a sister died previously.

Kimble Stutzman
DUNDEE -- Kimble A. Stutzman, 50, 7952 State Route 516, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at his home after a brief illness.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Smith-Geib Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. Luann Youngman officiating. Burial will be at Dundee Cemetery.
Friends may call today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
He was born June 5, 1952, in Dover to Roy E. and Lucille Stutzman and was a U.S. Army and Navy veteran, serving with the 1485th National Guard Unit from 1971-76. He was a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of Dundee United Methodist Church and was a horse showman in the Muskingum Water Shed Association.
Surviving are children, Kimberly (Thomas) DeMatteo of Columbus and Kevin (Staci) Stutzman of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren; his mother, Lucille (Kenneth) Hofacker of Dundee; a brother, Gregary R. (Jerri-Kay) Stutzman of Kentucky; a sister, Sandra (Harlan "Rich") Richardson of Sugarcreek; 11 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and aunts and uncles.
His father, a brother, Kevin and grandparents, Ray and Ida Jones and Elmer and Mary Stutzman, died previously.

Edith Troutman
LEXINGTON -- Edith Louise Troutman, 63, State Route 546, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at her home after a brief illness.
At her request, there will be no visitation hours or funeral services. Cremains will be interred at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hinckley in a private service.
A public memorial service is planned for April. Wappner Funeral Directors in Mansfield, handled arrangements.
Contributions may be made to All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 25 Church St., Bellville 44813.
She was born April 26, 1939, in Ashland County. From early childhood through sixth grade, she lived in Ontario. Louise graduated from Bellville High School in 1957 and Ashland College in 1961.
She began her teaching career at Buckeye High School in Medina County, followed by a year at the old Bellville Junior High. Then, she went on to receive her master's degree in biology from Ohio State University in 1965. She retired from a professorship at Ohio State in 1991, having taught biology for two years at Newark and then the following 23 years at the Mansfield branch.
Following retirement, she became active in many organizations, including Malabar Farm Spinners and Weavers Guild, Lexington Methodist Church Knotty Ladies, Mohican Native Plant Society and the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Bellville. She was a board member of Richland County Museum.
She enjoyed life to its fullest and loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and all continents except Antarctica. Over the last decade, she developed a strong interest in fabric arts and related crafts, becoming adept at card-making, weaving, beading and doll-dress making. She designed and constructed award-winning non-traditional quilts. Her home and gardens reflected her unique personality. She also liked to go on long morning walks. She was a very giving person. Her enthusiasm, energy and talents will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Roger Troutman, whom she married July 19, 1968; children, Charla Louann Troutman of Arlington, Va., and Philip Parke Troutman and his wife, Lai-fong Yvonne Yiu of San Diego, Calif.; and many cousins, friends and neighbors.
Her parents, Charles Walter and Louise Helena (Wilgus) Ackerman, died previously.

Frank Albanese
SEBRING -- Frank Joseph Albanese, 77, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Copeland Oaks Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.
Memorial services will be Saturday, April 26, at 1 p.m. at Copeland Oaks in Sebring.
Arrangements are being handled by McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster.
He was born Dec. 30, 1925, in New York City, to Frank Paul and Grace (deMarinis) Albanese and was married to Virginia (Correll) Albanese for 50 years. She survives and is formerly of Wooster.
He was an instructor in air and sea rescue and a parachute rigger in the U.S. Navy, during World War II. He had attended Columbia University and was a skilled photographer, lamp-maker, world traveler and storyteller.
He worked for CBS television in New York City and television stations in Providence, R.I., and Colorado Springs, Colo. During the 1956 Melbourne Olympics he was senior film editor for television, was on the auxiliary staff of the Australian Broadcasting Commission and had worked for the Central Intelligence Agency as a photographer and cinematographer from 1963-86. In 1976, he was awarded the Certificate of Distinction for his work on a historic film for the agency.
He was a member of the Order of Constantine and Sigma Xi fraternity.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is a sister, Dorotea (Albanese) Humberstone of California.

Ruth Lindbeck
MANSFIELD -- Ruth N. Lindbeck, 85, 895 S. Linden Circle East, died Thursday morning, March 13, 2003, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, after a short illness.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Wappner Funeral Directors in Mansfield handled arrangements.
She was born March 27, 1917, in Fort Recovery to the Rev. Arthur F. and Carolyn (Hipple) Lindbeck and was a graduate of Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va. She began her teaching career in Wooster, and in 1944, moved to Mansfield, where she taught at Grubaugh School. She retired after 30 years of teaching.
She attended Mayflower Congregational Church and was a past member of the Nature Club, Fine Arts Guild and First Congregational Church.
She had played second violin with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and enjoyed crafts, crocheting, cooking, gardening, nature study, photography, bowling, golf and fishing.
Surviving are a sister, Patricia Elliott of Columbus, N.C.; two nieces and three nephews.
A sister, Helen Lindbeck and brothers, John and Charles, died previously.

Andrew Yoder
BALTIC -- Bishop Andrew E. Yoder, 77, 53878 State Route 651, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at his residence.
Services will be Sunday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Leroy Miller officiating. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery, Holmes County.
Friends may call today (Friday) any time after 2 at the residence.
Arrangements are being handled by Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
He was born July 16, 1925, in Holmes County to Emanuel J. and Katie (Beachy) Yoder and married Laura J. Miller on Oct. 4, 1945. She died in May 1991.
He was ordained as a minister in 1958, and ordained as Bishop of the Older Order Amish Church in 1962.
Surviving are children, Delbert A. (Barbara Ann) Yoder and Mary (Aden) Troyer, both of Baltic, John Henry A. (Ella) Yoder of Clare, Mich., Owen A. (Esther) Yoder, Dan A. (Ruth Ann) Yoder, Reuben A. (Emma) Yoder and Katie (Marvin) Yoder, all of Millersburg, Ervin A. (Lena) Yoder of Fresno, Mervin A. (Sara) Yoder of Butler, Emanuel A.L. (Fannie) Yoder of Sugarcreek, Roman A.E. (Mary Ann) Yoder of Fresno, Alma A. Yoder and Esther (Mahlon) Raber, both of the home; 74 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; brothers, Emanuel E. Yoder of Howard and Roman E. Yoder of Kenton; and a sister, Fannie (Andy) Hershberger of Lakeville.
In addition to his wife, four grandchildren, a great-grandchild, three brothers, two sisters died previously.

Mary Alexander
SHREVE -- Mary E. Alexander, 82, of Shreve, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at Smithville-Western Care Center.
Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Jerry Durham officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born April 18, 1920, in Loudonville to James and Bessie (Hawk) Wolford and married William M. Alexander on Nov. 20, 1940. He died Feb. 16, 1996.
She had worked at the former Wooster Egg Auction and retired from Bell & Howell. She attended the Church of the Saviour.
Surviving are sons, Robert Dean (Barbara) Alexander of Orrville and Lee Covert (Connie) Alexander of Shreve; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, brothers, Paul and Walter Wolford and a sister, Ruth Franks, died previously.

Leo Brown
WOOSTER -- Leo C. Brown, 69, of Wooster, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Horn Nursing Home.
Private graveside services were held at Wooster Cemetery. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster handled arrangements.
He was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Endicott, N.Y., to Clarence and Catherine (Boellner) Brown.
He worked as a color photographer in the Toledo area.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda (John) Roundtree of Mountain Home, Idaho; two grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Brown of Long Beach, Calif.
Sisters, Agnes Swoger and Delores Howard, died previously.

Jeffery Cunningham
NORTH LAWRENCE -- Jeffery L. Cunningham, 53, 6095 Lovers Lane, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at his home.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Revs. Tim Hull and Linda Masters officiating. Burial will be at Newman Creek Cemetery, North Lawrence.
Friends may call tonight (Saturday) from 6-9 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
He was born Jan. 3, 1950, in Massillon to Wilbur E. "Bill" and Kathryn R. (Becker) Cunningham. He was a 1968 graduate of Smithville High School, where he loved the sport of wrestling and track.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two years and after the military, continued his athletic career with thoroughbred horses as owner, trainer, outrider and jockey at different tracks in eastern U.S.
He had made his home in the North Lawrence area all of his life and was a faithful Christian. He was loved and respected by his family, friends and co-workers.
Surviving are a brother, Michael "Mike" (Ann) Cunningham of North Lawrence; sisters, Linda (Benjamin) Hostetler of Fredericksburg, Peggy (Joe) Meyers of Doylestown and Diana (Bruce) Shephard of North Lawrence; and nieces and nephews, Carmel Hawk and Melanie Haley, Matthew Ellsworth and Jordan Hostetler, Steven and Mark Troyer, Amy and Helen Cunningham, Chris and Wes Shephard.

Tracey Lashley
GLENMONT -- Tracey A. Lashley, 40, of Glenmont, died Friday morning, March 14, 2003, at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, after a short illness.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Pastor Mike Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Killbuck Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born July 15, 1962, in Cambridge, to Herschel and Sue (Hannahs) Lashley.
Surviving are a daughter, Blair McCombs (Ed) of Wooster; a granddaughter, Kadence Howell of Wooster; her mother, Sue (John) Landon of Killbuck; a brother, Jeff (Kari) Lashley of Gahanna; sisters, Teresa Lashley of Killbuck and Tami Bergen of Millersburg; a stepsister, Denise Landon of Killbuck; a stepbrother, Jack Landon of Glenmont; nieces, Casey and Kristin; a nephew, Justin; paternal grandmother, Elsie Lashley of Quaker City; her former husband, Matt Umstead of Holmesville; her Goddaughter, Cheyanne Blevens of Fredericksburg; and special friends, Rico and Nancy.
A daughter, Bresa McCombs and her father died previously.

Gwen Powell
WOOSTER -- Gwen J. Powell, 78, of Wooster, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday morning, March 13, 2003.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Dr. Claude L. McComas officiating. Burial will be at Smithville Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
Gwen was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Decatur, Ill., to Harold P. and Maude M. (Humphries) Ash.
She had made her home in Berkely, Ill., moving to Wooster in 1990.
Surviving are children, Dennis A. Powell of California, Cheri P. (Terry) Marquardt of Atlanta, Ga., Wanda (Windell) Mitchell of Smithville and Patti (James) Cernauske of Melrose Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Steven, Jenny, Keri, Rory, Loni, Sarah, Wes, Jeff and Jason; and a great-grandson, Daniel.
Her parents died previously.

Lester White
WOOSTER -- Lester L. White, 96, formerly of Washington, Pa., and Wooster, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at Bolger Health Care, Steubenville.
A service will be held at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
He had been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Wooster.
He was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Avella, Pa., to Benjamin Franklin and Susan (Williams) White. He had attended school in Taylorstown, Pa., and while living in Washington, was employed at the Molybedum Corp. and River Raisin Paper Co. His last residence being Wooster, where he had managed the Prairie Lane Hunting Preserve and the Farmers Market.
"Red," as he was fondly known by his friends, loved to hunt, fish and work in his flower gardens. He also enjoyed painting in oils, as he was a self-taught artist.
He served his country as a Tec/4 Sgt. in the U.S. Army, 502nd Anti Aircraft Division, Battery C during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He also served as company cook.
He is survived by his former wife, Rose Diangelo Brown; daughters Phyllis (Gerald) Landis of Orrville and Susan (William) Pierce of Beaver Falls, Pa.; grandchildren, Lisa (Paul) Aucoin, Michael Flueckiger, April (Bob) Settembrine, Cari Brenneman and Lance Cpl. Kurt Brenneman; great-grandchildren, Evan and Jack Aucoin, Mia and Nicholas Settembrine; and many nieces and nephews.
Lester had a great sense of humor and will be missed by many. He was the last sibling of his family, preceded by his sisters, Carrie, Lavinna, Grace, Florence, Viola and Irene and brothers, George, Thomas, Robert, Clyde and Clifford.
